Outstanding gem on Jamestown Island! The menu is superb, and the bar and restaurant feature an excellent selection of diverse beers. Emily, Jeff, and Chef Matt provided excellent service and enhanced my dining experience.

We have been to Jamestown Fish on 5 or 6 occasions and each one was memorable. In fact, we treasure the anticipation of each next return. The service is elegant as is the setting and the food. The menu is carefully chosen and executed. Anyone who has complaints about this restaurant must be looking for the wrong thing here.

We met some friends for drinks outside. It was our first time here even though we live very close. I have to say it was very nice and the pizza was amazing. I’m sad we waited this long in the season to finally get here and soon the outside will be closed. The staff was friendly and attentive. We will defiantly be making more of an effort to revisit here.

On Wednesday, 09/16/2015, I was visiting Jamestown and it was recommended to me by a local person that Jamestown Fish would be a good place for dinner. I had a wonderful dinner experience. The service and food were outstanding and worth every penny. Our waitress, Elyse, did an excellent job of waiting on us. The main chef, Heliovaldo Araujo came out to our table and really made us feel welcomed. We had their signature dish which is the Jamestown Fish Soup. Best main course fish soup I ever had. Matthew MacCartney, who I consider the wine specialist of the restaurant, did a very good job explaining the wine list to us. Not to sound like a snob, but being from the San Francisco area and having had formal wine education, I know my food and wine. I would recommend Jamestown Fish for an excellent food and wine experience.

I took my wife and my son and his wife in Dora weekday lunch. First time at this place. I think it’s so-so overall. My wife and I had the fluke filet with“mixed greens”. The filet was nicely breaded, but was overlooked and dry. The mixed greens was a handful of lettuce with vinagrette. For $ 18. My daughter in law had the lobster roll, which came with pesto, which overpowered the flavor of the lobster. That and fries for $ 24. My sons fish of the day was ok.

Went here based on good reviews and word of mouth recommendations. Very disappointed. Fish stew was inedible. Waiter brought wrong wine, then disappeared to open it after he presented it! Somewhere with such a stellar wine list should conduct some training for the staff that is serving it. Unacceptable. Waited over 45 minutes between apps and entrees and when they finally arrived, her steak was overdone, cold and hard. My salmon was good. With the prices they charge, you would expect A LOT more. Will not return.

The best choice in Jamestown. Certainly many steps up the ladder from tourist food. The outside venue is very nice. The food is good buy hardly great. I had Bluefish with spinach with tomatoes and potatoes. The fish was nicely done, the side, nothing special. Lynn had a burger. We each had one glass of wine. The tally was $ 100. We have enjoyed far better meals at that price. We are traveling on our boat so the walking distance limits our choices.

We were looking for a restaurant in Jamestown, found Fish posted on Unilocal and decided to give it a try. Unilocal came through again. The restaurant was very accommodating when suddenly we needed a table for 6 instead of 4. The wait staff, friendly and knowledgeable, helping us navigate the menu. We were told that Fish is a fresh restaurant. Nothing is frozen but comes fresh, directly from the farms, fishermen and suppliers which means that some of the entrees might be limited. No problem that evening as we had 6:30 seating. Our food was exceptional! I had swordfish cooked to perfection. It was seared on the outside but moist and flakey on the inside. It was presented on a bed of fresh peas and pea pods. My husband had halibut, equally as tasty. For desert we had their in house made Ice Cream. Ummm, I wanted a second serving but will power kicked in. I would highly recommend Jamestown Fish think you’ll love it!,

Great ambitious, friendly hostess and accommodated our seats. 4 stars for that, but now to the bad part. The wife asked for a beer that they were out of and the waitress did not recommend something similar. She then asked for a lemon for her beer and it never came. The food was extremely small portions, and mediocre at best. For the price of what was on the menu, we were sever

Good food, but just too expensive for seafood in RI. Dozens of restaurants in Newport and Providence are at least as good, at a fraction of the price. Net, net: a pretentious outing. Fool me once, shame on you. Not going to fool me again!

Lobster linguini truffle scampi was extremely bland. So dissapointing especially when paying $ 39 for the dish. The swordfish was good but on the extremly small side. Service was horrible. Waitres left drinks at bar for a long time and what I received was an expensive watered down martini. Extremely unatentive throughout the entire dinner. Three stars is for location and nice atmosphere.

We came here on Mothers Day. We were driving back from Woods Hole where we had taken the ferry over to MV for the weekend. It was before the season really got going some places were not open yet. My point being that I was certain while on Martha’s Vineyard we would have a really memorable meal and we ended up having that meal at Jamestown Fish. We did not have a reservation so we sat at the small bar in the main dining room.(It was on the early side) Everything was really tasty and the staff was very friendly.(as we sat down and as we were leaving various parties small and large were int he restaurant for the holiday) Definitely make a point to get here the food is prepared with care from good ingredients. They have an outdoor seating area and woof fired pizza on another menu so may have the investigate on another visit. Jamestown is also just really cute and picturesque.

I enjoyed the meal, but felt that the experience was damaged by a lack of flavor and the general feel for the dining room. A place such as this should leave me with a memorable experience. Firstly, the food: I had the crab salad appetizer. Probably the best thing I ate all night. Although I found two bits of shell, it was fresh, light and delicious. My wife had the oysters and little necks with the special cocktail sauce. Good cocktail sauce, but no explanation of the oysters and where they came from, presumably locally sourced. I don’t feel I should have to ask since I had already asked loads of questions about the menu. Invested interest in local fare was clearly stated. My wife ordered the halibut and it was simply bland and boring. We love to honor the fish and not over power proteins with seasoning and add ons, but this was just boring. I had the fish soup entrée. Very yummy, and maybe another highlight, but I just didn’t feel the love. To my next point; feeling the love was not a part of this experience. My feeling of boredom regarding this meal may emerge from the fact that the chef is boring. It was in the food, his presence, even the other diners presence. There was no energy. He had an air of apathy as he came through the dining room. This has an uncanny affect on a diner. I felt slightly rushed, but then ignored around dessert. Cocktails were mediocre at best. Location is nice, but there are better places. I will try this place again, I need to get a round two. Maybe a best out of three is in order. I can only hope.

Impeccable service, great food, beautiful atmosphere, I am sad that I have not happened upon this restaurant before I did over a year ago now. It will be a wonderful place to visit during the busier but warmer months, especially with the inviting patio! You have my 5 stars, Jamestown Fish!

There’s no better place to experience beautiful sunsets, amazing waterfront views(short walk) and incredibly fresh seafood than Jamestown. With Newport right over the Pell’s Bridge, Jamestown has often been overlooked by many seasonal visitors like myself. To say the least, dining experience at Jamestown Fish has been nothing less than spectacular! The place is thoughtfully decorated with lots of windows to give a relaxing, peaceful and romantic vibe. Our server Emily was a super star! She was not only kind and friendly, but also provided exceptionally superb service. I have never experienced such thoughtfulness and care in a table service as Emily had shown.(Thank you Emily!) As for the food, we tried nearly everything on the menu. They were so elegantly prepared and displayed, and even more flavorful to taste. Love the use fresh ingredients and everything was perfectly seasoned to bring out the optimum flavors. We were pleasantly surprised when the chef/owner came over to greet us and ensure we were enjoying the food… and when we were leaving, the chef/owner took the time to shake our hands and thanked us for coming. Now, that’s what I call a warm and exceptional hospitality.

I have a strange fascination with small islands so I’m always looking for an excuse to make it out to Jamestown. It’s too bad the main drag through town isn’t a bit more active, but Jamestown Fish should be enough to attract you to this quaint town. We went to Jamestown Fish for the first time for our anniversary, and were pleasantly surprised when the staff honored my request for a semi-private table! We were seated next to the fire, a bit away from the other diners, and really enjoyed the intimate setting. The staff also treated us to a couple of glasses of champagne soon after we sat down to help us celebrate. This was a really nice touch, and certainly was above and beyond what we expected. Since this was our first visit, we wanted to get a little bit of everything! We each had an appetizer, an entrée, and a dessert — and nibbled off each other’s plates a bit(there was plenty left over!). We enjoyed a bottle of white from their extensive wine list, and each tried a tea with dessert — they even have an extensive tea list! For our appetizers, my wife had the cheese plate, and I had the«Peekytoe Crab». I absolutely loved the crab — it was a wonderfully citrusy, perfectly portioned salad of crab and avocado. I would recommend this dish to anyone(even those unlucky enough to have a shellfish allergy provided they brought their sense of adventure and an epi-pen)! For dinner, my wife had the sea scallops. They were perfectly cooked, and accompanied by the most delicious carrot purée we’d ever had. The sweetness of the scallops and the carrot purée were perfectly complemented by the nutty argan oil and the savory asparagus. I had the«Jamestown Fish Cookpot». From the menu, I was looking forward to a cioppino(that humble San Francisco fish stew accompanied by bread for sopping up its delicious broth), but what I got was so much better! The broth in this dish is a rich and complex mélange of melted butter, saffron, the juices of various shellfish, and lobster roe. When the chef came to visit our table, I think he was pleased to see the mustache of roe and saffron that had formed on my upper lip as I impolitely slurped down the broth having exhausted the ample supply of bread. Well done chef(and well-timed — thanks a lot). Our desserts, accompanied by herbal teas, were an excellent end to the night. My wife had the chocolate pot de crème, and I had the special, a granny smith apple cobbler a la mode(with homemade ice cream!). And just to illustrate the attention to detail at Jamestown Fish, both of these desserts were served in their own tiny Le Creuset pots. That was a lot of fun for some reason! Jamestown Fish is one of my new favorite spots in Rhode Island, and we’ll absolutely be back. What we need to find now is a spot to grab a coffee nearby… It would be great to enjoy on an after-dinner walk down to the bay to look at the Newport Bridge lighting up the night. Check this place out — it’s an awesome«special occasion» restaurant.

And thanks to Elyse who accurately recommended: * Silver snapper * Eggplant appetizer: an absolute must! * Peekytoe crab For craft beer lovers, this is a little slice of heaven! Modern, minimalist décor; ample free street parking nearby; professional, courteous service. Best meal in town!

There’s a reason that Chef Matthew was just awarded Food & Wine’s «People’s Best New Chef» for 2014, the food here is extraordinary. This is not your typical RI «seafood» restaurant, your baked stuffed twin, and clams casino are nowhere to be found. Instead, here the menu changes weekly. And when I visited, entirely different from the one found on the restaurant’s website. The dishes offer both local and European influences, as do the ingredients. Fresh, local and imported, caught fishes are the highlight. «Peektoe» crab, presumably from Maine, and Dover Sole shared my menu, along with Rope-grown Mussels and RI Quohogs. That«Peektoe» Rock Crab, was served as a composed salad. Stacked in a round over a plate glazing of ripe, soft sliced Avocado; its rich, fatty texture giving body to the soft and fine grains of crab. The Dover Sole was presented bone-in, as a twin fillet with the top skin removed and the delicate bottom still whole and in place. The flavor, sweet and salty, a rather decadent and fine piece of fish. And all that is hardly even the best part, they have 2 more menus. One for the bar, and another for the outdoor patio, effectively 2 more restaurants all on the same site. I’ll be back for another round, and to give those a try as well. A+
