There’s nothing less than one star… and this one should be negative 10. Joe Hisel has ripped-​off several people in the last years. Perhaps he started with good service and best intentions. The last couple of years, he’s advertised on FB and collected down payments… and never delivered the work. Always an excuse… usually that he’s been injured (trying to garner sympathy). There was an investigative news report late last summer and thought he was facing court date.
I hope if anyone is considering hiring him, they will do their due diligence and check here and/​or with Better Business Bureau. The problem with FB is that potential customers see his many «friends» (primarily accumulated by his wife through classmates who are no longer in touch with him) and it misleads potential client that he’s reputable.
My recommendation: stay FAR, FAR away from this d00d.

**WARNING***Ok. So before I joined Unilocal or looked up this company (learned my lesson) I already got an estimate and gave this %??%??%hole a very hearty down payment, he seems to be MIA. Please do not hire him, or give him any money.
I have been following his posts on FB and is still giving estimates. Which I don’t understand, he should be in prison by now. This guy is really in over his head! He instead a simple 10′ — 10′ deck extension on my existing deck for a hot tub. He took our money right away for a deposit but started almost a month late after consistent nagging and blowing off appointments. After finishing the job his crew left a mess for us to clean up and didn’t move the hot tub on the new deck (why would we not want the hot tub on the deck we had installed for it. A month after the install the deck sunk 1 inch and he promised 3 separate times to come out and fix it in the fall. Now it is spring and he refuses to answer our calls. Total joke.

this is by far the worse company, this guy will take your money and you will never see him again, apparently he has done this before to another person, i hire him to do a deck in my house, he took a half deposit and after that never heard from the guy again, all excuses, first he said he got a heart attack, (funny its the same excuse he gave the first person he rip off) call the bbb and to my surprise, they had more people complaining about this company, talked to the will county police department and now waiting to taking him to court, please dont hire him, do your research, he is a fraud.

Steer clear of Joe Hisel and JH Carpentry. Nightmare experience! He started my basement remodel right away but stopped after a few days on the job. What little framing that was done was shoddy. The flu turned into pneumonia, which tuned into no communication for 4 weeks. I am out thousands of dollars and all I get from him are nasty texts.
