There aren’t a lot of places on the islandwhere I can get an affordable unagi bowl, they’re normally priced around $ 20. I just happened to walk down their strip with my girlfriend and we decided to pop in. $ 12 for a big piece of unagi, my heart literally jumped. LOVEIT

One of my favorite island dishes is Meat Jun — sounds gross but it’s amazing if you find good stuff. This is good stuff!!! My hubby picked it up & brought it to me and my daughter at the pool! She was looking like what’s THAT??? I said Meat Jun try it… She tried it and said OH wow that’s good!!! So there you have it… Yummy Meat Jun & Spam Musubi

I have no idea how anyone could actually return to this restaurant ever again after eating there one time. It’s not just bad, it’s terrible. The cheapest ingredients possible, rude staff, and just a place nobody should ever eat. Disgusting

2.5 stars! What a disappointment! After sneaking out from a meeting where they served sandwiches for lunch, I figured there must be something good to eat around town. So my friend and I drive here and approach. I see the figure of a fat ass sumo wrestler who resembles me somewhat! I say to myself, «hmmm, if the fat ass sumo guy is smiling, the food has to be good!» We walk in and notice there are only 2 tables inside this small place. The larger of the 2 tables are occupied and the 4 seater next to the entrance is open. I reserve the seating while my friend orders. After he’s done, we rotate. I look over the menu and am somewhat confused on the concept. Looks like local food, mixed in with a ton of Chinese dishes. Okay, another one of these places, where you think you’re ordering one thing, and when you get it, kind of disapppointing? Example, when I go to the local L&L Restaurant, which is owned by Chinese Immigrants, the Chicken Katsu is harder than the average Chicken Katsu and the katsu sauce is a watered down version of some kind of sweet sour sauce mixed with ketchup? You know what I mean?! So, I decide to try their Steak and Mushrooms plate, which looked good and hefty in the photo menu. I paid about $ 11 for this plate and asked to purchase a cup for water. Thanks for charging only 50 cents for the cup, unlike places on Maui, which charge the retail price of a soda! After waiting, I got my plate, but had to move outside to eat, since we were approached by a lady asking if it was okay for her to sit on the table with us. We’re snobby by no means, but kind of uncomfortable sitting next to someone you know nothing of and about and can’t enjoy having a conversation, especially the type of conversations my friend and I have! There were a couple of open tables outside, which made me wonder about being asked to share a table. The food was a disappointment. The steak was tough, almost completely gristle, and there were only about 6 sliced pieces, which was fine, since it was so tough, I was looking around to see if there was a Dentist’s Office nearby! The mushrooms were also not too plentiful and did not have much taste. After going outside, I notice a menu hanging in the window. After looking this menu over, I notice they have cake noodles! DAMN!!! This wasn’t on their regular menu inside! I ask the guy there if they have cake noodles, which he confirms they do! Oh well, maybe next time — maybe not! All in all, very disappointed with the food here. Several other places to eat next door, but that will be on the next visit. Located in the same complex as Long’s Drugs and First Hawaiian Bank, this place has ample parking and easy to access. Only thing is, maybe stick to their ethnic fare, as if previous experience is correct, this may be a better option! This fat ass Sumo dude did not leave smiling!

I got the big ramen bowl, it looks good in the photo but it was such a disappointment. They use instant ramen for the noodles and the soup base was very bland.

I give this place a solid 4 stars. Good value for what you get not huge portions but adequate. I got the two specials, panko chicken and pork Teri, and katsu and Teri chicken. Solid…

Good place for a quick meal. Came in for a late lunch at 1:30. Breakfast served all day long! Had the breakfast special, 2 eggs + rice + bacon for $ 4.99! Good portion for the price. We also ordered the Garlic Chicken bowl for $ 6.99 Bottom line: good price for the portion.

Okay, but not exactly A-OK, if you catch my drift. I think this place falls into a fairly specific category of «where a high school kid might like to eat with his McDonald’s money, but when McDonald’s just isn’t good enough». Does that make any sense? I am well beyond high school age but can imaging chowing down here after school. I tried the gyoza ramen which was filling but not flavorful. To be perfectly fair, though, the quality AND quantity of ingredients far surpassed that of «Iron Chef» Morimoto’s ramen at his all-around cruddy Skewer’s joint in LAX, so that’s something. The garlic-chicken and fried rice bowl was better than the ramen, flavor-wise; greasy but good, humble yet filling. I don’t think I’d eat here again, mostly because there are plenty of places offering better food within walking distance. If I were a kid again, though, and wanted a filling bowl of generic asian food for 8 bucks — this might be my regular after-school spot. Burp. Mall food without the mall. Bland-a Express.

It’s fast food, so it’s about what you’d expect. Gyoza ramen($ 7.75): Broth lacking flavor One bowl gets you three Gyoza Not much else to say

Visited this place for lunch after getting out of airplane in Kona ;-) Cozy and cute, Japanese-style«bowl food» café — kind of ironic and a bit nostalgic for me… Well, as for food — I think they doing pretty decent so-called«Japanese Fast Food» — I had something like«Teri-Ahi» over white rice and find it pretty decent for the price. Small place, but these guys are doing a good job running this establishment. Good place for lunch when you in rush or take some food with you, when you are going on one of those rides around the island and don’t know when your next stop for food will be ;-) Close to Marriot in Kona(you can just walk here couple of blocks) and here is lots of free parking if you are driving.

We wandered in here because we were half starving and the place we were going to go(Thai in an adjacent shopping plaza) was unexpectedly closed. Also, we thought it best to eat lunch before going grocery shopping, lest we buy too much there. STAYAWAY from the RAMEN… was literally the worst I’ve ever had; it’s better out of a dried package where you add hot water. The noodles were flaccid and over-cooked and the miso broth was flavorless. Also, what I got in a bowl looked nothing like the picture on the menu. The fried Udon noodles were tasty, though. And the Korean chicken bento box was an excellent value. The kimchi was good and the glass noodles weren’t bad. The chicken itself was nothing to write home about, but was certainly filling. The fried rice was ok. If you’re in a pinch, this place will(barely) pass muster… but I wouldn’t make any effort to come back here.

Don’t wait till after 8pm on a Sunday to have dinner. Why? Everything is closed at 8pm or earlier. Ughh, it was so frustrating driving around in search of food, especially when you’re starving and grumpy. It was either fast food or sumo, sumo it is… FYI, the hours on Unilocal are incorrect… Here are their hours: M-F: 5am-10pm and Sat-Sun: 5:30am-10pm…You’re Welcome! =P Ordered: Boneless Short Rib and Meat Jun Bento– Each combo comes with rice, mac salad, potsticker, choice of a side and choice of fried spam or an egg roll. The food was bleh… The boneless short rib was tough and extremely salty and the meat jun wasn’t that good. The only thing I enjoyed was the potsticker and the side of cabbage. I should’ve went to McDonalds instead…

review for breakfast only: $ 3.99 Mini Breakfast plate is huge! Fried rice, 2 eggs and choice of meat(I chose Spam 2 slices). Nothing fancy, but it fits the bill. For the price and quantity this was a good deal… hence the stars. It’s in a shopping strip mall next to a grocery store…

This place is horrible. The fried rice was plain and tasteless. The Korean chicken was covered in msg sauce and unplucked feathers. Soy beans were bland, kimchee was not spicy and flavorless. The water cooler was gross and had mildew on it. Then to top it all off I found a beetle in the Mac salad. I had to throw away my plate after that. Disgusting. Never again. My only hope is that I don’t die from eating the little bit of my plate that I did.

One morning we were heading to Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf for ice blendeds for breakfast(I’m rather addicted since living in LA) and suddenly we smelled the delicious aroma of bacon & sausage… we gravitated next door to the Sumo Deli. For $ 2.99(that’s not a typo), you can get the«Loco Plate» that consists of two eggs any style, choice of breakfast meat(including link sausage, bacon, Portuguese sausage, corned beef hash and spam) and choice of toast or rice. The food was great! It’s a really small restaurant & it seems as if mostly locals eat there. We got our breakfast and sat outside at their chairs & tables and enjoyed a delicious breakfast. If you’re vacationing & want an inexpensive, delicious & filling breakfast, this is a cool option. We only ate there for breakfast so can’t comment on their other menu items.
