Tonight was the 2nd incident where I’ve gone in for fresh green juice and was told the juicer was turned off early to be cleaned. The reasoning from the employee was so they would be able to close at 9. I am aware that you employ young girls who obviously want to get out of work asap, but I don’t think they should be shutting off machines early that provide the means to make at least 8 items of your menu. And 1 ½ hours before losing at that i usually leave happy after visiting this establishment, recently disappointed…

The acai bowl here in my opinion is the worst I’ve ever had. It taste like it has been watered down. Acai should not be watery. It’s so watered down that it doesn’t have ANY flavor whatsoever. I don’t taste any fruits or apple juice. I was extremely disappointed when I bought it and contemplated going back to return it. Couldn’t even finish it. Not happy at all.

I really like this place! They have lots of coffee options, along with Acai bowls, smoothies, and healthy meals. There’s lots of sitting room and it’s a nice location.

Mocha Java has a great environment, food and customer service. While I was walking around the mall I noticed a very unique store. The place had a very comfortable vibe to it. There were couches, plants, quotes on the wall and drawings drawn by the employees. Aside it from being comfortable it also made it seem more welcoming. The place was nice and clean. I noticed that while I was enjoying my food employees would come out when they weren’t assisting customers they would wipe tables. Although the plants needed a little more watering it was placed in appropriate areas and it didn’t really clash with the whole interior design although it didn’t really seem like the store had a specific theme but that’s what made the store seem unique in my opinion. Walking in it immediately made me smile. Aside, from the welcoming and unique environment the food was also great. I heard that they were known for their acai bowls and so I ordered one of their most popular bowls which was the almond joy bowl and I added strawberries. They have the ingredients listed for each of the products or food that they sell. It was really helpful because knowing what was in my food made me more intrigued and helped me decide what I wanted. Its also great for people who are health conscious and people with health allergies. The acai was so refreshing and the strawberries were fresh and sweet. One of the things that they mentioned on their banner was that they support local and when I asked what products they had that were local they gave me a sufficient list products, including majority of their fruits, coffee, drinks and many more. The employees at Mocha Java were very welcoming. They welcomed me with a smile and they greeted me with enthusiasm. They were friendly. They suggested their recommendation and which of their merchandise were the most popular. They were the ones to suggest the almond joy. Considering what was actually in the almond joy which was their blended acai with granola, coconut, chocolate chips and almonds I wouldn’t have bought it because it just seems weird with the acai but if they hadn’t suggested it then I wouldn’t have found my new found favorite snack. It was an overall great experience and I would highly recommend this place.

This place really isn’t worth the effort. It’s in the mall which isn’t a great ambiance to start with. The coffee we ordered was just fair, not really a step above the Starbucks across the street. Service was friendly but the place was filthy and all the furniture was stained or dirty. Doesn’t really invite you to sit down and relax.

Just went here and I’m not a coffee person but the experience was not good. I ordered peppermint bark mocha and my wife got the almond roca. I’m giving them 2 stars cuz the almond roca was actually pretty good, aside from the fact that even after we got a stopper from Starbucks the coffee continued to spill out of the cup after my wife had to put the cover on the cup well because the girls had left it loose on top of the cup. My peppermint bark mocha tasted like milk with a little peppermint which after taking the cover off I realized that’s all it was, no coffee, just milk, foam and peppermint flavoring. Not even chocolate, you know one of the main components that makes it a mocha. i don’t post too many posts on Unilocal and I don’t like to complain too much, but this was definitely not worth my money to get coffee from here!

If you’re allergic to walnuts, stay away from the curried chicken wrap!!! Or make sure you ask what ingredients they use if you’re allergic to nuts, gluten, etc. Other than that, I would say MJ Café’s food tastes great, is good quality, is kind of pricey, the portion sizes are good, and the staff is very friendly. I came here for the first time today and ordered the curried chicken wrap(~$ 9.50) which comes with either chips or salad. I got the salad. I also ordered their Acai Power Bowl(~$ 8.50). Total came out to just under $ 20. I went home, started eating the wrap, and after three bites, I felt a reaction(tingly tongue, swollen lips, itchy throat). Little info about me: I’m allergic to certain tree nuts(walnuts, pecans, cashews, pistachios). I rarely have problems with nuts though, which is why, when I was ordering, I didn’t even think I would have a problem with the curried chicken wrap. I thought wrong. I let my mom try some, and she said she tasted something nutty, like walnuts(oh, great). I decided I’d better call and ask. So I called MJ Café to see if there were nuts in the curried chicken, and they were very nice about it. A woman picked up, I asked her if the curried chicken had nuts in it, she didn’t know, so she took down my number, asked her boss, and called me back immediately. She apologized and said the curried chicken IS in fact made with walnuts. I asked if they had a sign in the store stating that their foods may contain nuts, but she didn’t know and handed the phone over to a male(not sure who he was, I didn’t ask). He stated that they do not have signs, and that he was really sorry. I mentioned that a sign would be nice to have to prevent this from happening to future customers. We ended the conversation shortly after. Overall, the staff was very kind and professional. I just wish they had a sign or something to warn customers with nut allergies because it isn’t always common knowledge that some dishes may contain nuts, just like how I never would have thought the curried chicken has walnuts(is this common knowledge?). Maybe it was my fault for not asking what was in it, but a sign wouldn’t hurt either, especially for those with severe allergies, which luckily mine are pretty mild. As for the salad that came with the curried chicken wrap, it was like any other plain salad, but I used my own dressing because I didn’t want to risk another reaction if it also contained nuts. I started eating the salad after I got off the phone with the workers and didn’t think to ask if the dressing also had nuts. I didn’t wanna call again either, so I just used my own. Finally, the acai bowl was the best part! It was cold and fresh, topped with a generous amount of granola and bananas. The granola was sweet with honey and the acai was flavorful and refreshing. It’s not the most spectacular acai bowl, but I went in with low expectations and came out delightfully surprised! Would purchase again! I’ll definitely give MJ Café another try. This time I’ll be more cautious and ask what’s in the dish before I order. Don’t get me wrong, the curried chicken wrap tasted great! I just couldn’t eat it lol. I also love that they support locally and naturally made foods. Not the best experience for the first time, but I’m willing to give them a second chance.

This place is great honestly. It’s so cute and welcoming! I love the way they decorated. LOTS of seating and even comfy sofas too. The walls have lots of interesting things hanging on them too. I’ve been here three times. I’ve had the power bowl acai bowl, Greek salad, lychee iced tea, and summer bliss smoothie. Everything I’ve tried so far has been delicious! Don’t come here if you’re looking for a cheap bite. Food items average at $ 9 – 10, but it’s worth it. Everytime I’ve come the staff was friendly and greeted me with a smile and a hello. The menu has A LOT of options so I always ask what’s good. This time the guy working recommended the summer bliss smoothie. So good! I’m not even sure what’s in it but texture and taste is perfect. Definitely hit the spot haha. They have tons of acai options, but no pitaya. I was surprised by that. I thought a café like this would serve pitaya, but it’s okay they’ve got so many other yummy options. Can’t wait to come again and try more menu items(:

I like this place, I’ve never had an issue with any of my orders or drinks. Their sandwiches and coffee drinks are rather tasty! I’m a big fan of their acai bowls. The prices are a bit steep, so I don’t go that often.

First I have to say the salad dressing is awesome! I got the chicken salad sandwich with a salad and my husband got the turkey pesto panini. Plus we both ate for under 20.00! Both sandwiches were delicious! Also the salad was very fresh and yummy. The restaurant was clean and staff was very friendly. I will definitely come back!

So happy to find a healthy lunch spot amidst all the greasy fast food typical of mall restaurants. Love the organic salad menu! The curry chicken salad was delicious. Also ordered the dirty chai on a whim and so glad I did!

It’s in the Windward Mall, 1st floor near Panda Express, the playground, Sports Authority and below the Theater. Store: large space, generous seating, even a large picnic bench which our family quickly occupied. The YaYa milkshake(espresso, PB& Choc) was AMAZING. I’m not kidding. I’ve tried milkshakes and this one was worth every penny. The flavor was phenomenal! The kids liked their bagel melts. No complaints. You pick your bagel and meat/cheese and they grill it up. My huge chicken curry wrap did not disappoint. The side salad with it was fresh and yummy with a light dressing that doesn’t make you feel like you took the healthiness out of the salad. It was a good choice wrap. I tried my hubby’s turkey mozzarella pesto panini which was good, about a 3.5 out of 5 stars only because I’ve had panini w/tomato that makes it AMAZING. So, maybe it was a tad bit plain. But, that could probably have been easily remedied with additional ingredients. Last, my chai tea was DELICIOUS. I’ve been craving another since we left the other night. Well done… great flavor, worth every cent. I have a hard time paying for anything liquid other than water(just me!) but this was YUMMY. We’ll be back, mainly because — if I can try to eat a little healthy, I will. I want to try their acai bowls too.

I visit Windward Mall maybe 2x a year & was pleased to find this café in the mall. I’ve been to Mocha Java Café many times over the years and always had a nice experience there. MJ Café doesn’t have as much on the menu as Mocha Java but there are some nice things on the menu. I had the acai bowl and thought it was delicious and a very generous serving. I didn’t think it had too much ice in it and there was a very generous serving of granola on top. It was definitely one of the better acai bowls I’ve had, not the best(diamond head cove and lanikai juice are my favs) but still delicious. Service was very pleasant. I went with a group but we all got our food in under 10 minutes. I probably won’t seek this place out but would comeback if I was on the windward side.

I love acai bowls and was very excited about this new place, the service was overall pretty good, it was only one gal behind the counter but the place was empty so the wait time wasn’t too bad. Unfortunately while the portions are nice, the acai bowl was far from great. First, most of the acai is actual ice, you can see it at the pinkish color or the acai. Very little flavor which is to be expected when everything is diluted in too much water/ice. Then the granola was mostly rice krispies… Which got soggy after only a couple of minutes. I had really high hopes for this place but will probably not try it again.

Brought our child to windward mall to play in the play area and ride the train. On this recent visit we noticed a couple of new stores open up, MJ Café being one of them. Always interested in new places we were happy to read they support local farmers and try to use local products. My wife and I eagerly decided what we wanted. Here is where things started to go down hill My first disappointment came from their lack of food items on the menu, it was only a hand full of stuff. It’s mostly drinks. I think they mainly do drinks and do food on the side. The next disappointment came with the price, for their pesto turkey panini it was $ 9.something. You get chips or a toss salad with the panini, but almost $ 10 for a sandwich and a bag of chips!?! We ended up getting the bread bowl with a tomato basil soup and their pesto turkey panini with the salad which was just under $ 18. My wife and I figured it was expensive because of the«fresh local» produce and just hoped for the best. At first glance I was automatically disappointed with the size of the sandwich. It looked more like a $ 4 sandwich. I figure I’d make the best of it and dig into my soup. To my surprise it was totally not what I expected. It was a chunky soup with no broth. Most time when someone says tomato basil soup it’s a blended smooth soup sometimes with cream. My soup was chunky, chunks of carrots, celery and onions with very little tomato or soup. The flavor was good but I didn’t want a vegetable soup with no soup. Granted the bread bowl soaked up some of the soup but at the end of eating the bowl only a thin layer of the bread was soaked with the soup and majority of the bred bowl was dry. As far as the panini went my wife wondered why her panini had black marks like they didn’t clean the grill. At first I figure it’s flavor or something but when I thought about it I never had a panini with round black burnt marks. Most time they’er brown grill marks, which our panini had under the round black burnt marks. When I bit into the panini it had that flavor of old burnt oil. On top of that something in the panini was gritty. The interesting thing was in the panini what’s local? I’m pretty sure it store bought processed turkey and mozzarella, the pesto could have been fresh. I don’t think they bake their own bread. And if u choose the bag of chips what fresh? At this point I was a little disgusted with everything. I gave them two stars mainly because the food did have a good flavor. I figure they are just starting out and need to figure some things out. Take away the misses: incorrect labeled soup, gritty panini, high prices and clarify what items use fresh local products and I might give it another try in a couple of months when they work the bugs out.. . Maybe.
