I like Houlihan’s. The food is good, happy hour has a nice selection. Today we had lunch there. It was an average experience. Service was slow. I got the buffalo chicken salad. The chicken isn’t spicy & was cool temp. Overall it’s a good salad. My sis got the stuffed chicken. It was wowzers yummy… like I had food envy yummy looking. I will go back & next time I’m ordering stuffed chicken:)

Review based on 1 night experience in group of 5. Ordered calamari and top sirloin. Calamari was decent, but the sirloin was beyond well done. Since I ordered it at medium, had to let server know. He notified the manager and both were apologetic. Since the group was halfway thru their meals, did not want another steak to be sent back out. They took the meal off the check and offered free dessert. Staff was very professional, the rest of the group enjoyed their meals. Based on enjoyable experience, would definitely come back in the future. 3 stars for food. 5 stars for service!

I have always been happy with my dining experience at this location up until tonight. My husband received the email and saw the promotions on Facebook for during the Royals game. We figured we’d catch part of the game while we had some drinks and appetizers. We arrived at the restaurant at 8:45 to find that the doors had already been locked. There were several people in the restaurant so it’s not like they decided to close early because it was dead. I do not appreciate traveling out of my way to go to a restaurant only to find that they locked their doors early for no apparent reason. Not only did the promotions show that they would be open until the end of the game, but also the hours on the restaurant state the restaurant is open until 10 and the bar until 11. With several new restaurants in the area I will no longer be frequenting this establishment. Update to review: It’s even more frustrating that I emailed Faryle my contact information and never received a reply. Clearly, the management just replies in that fashion on Unilocal to keep up their image when they don’t actually care about their customers.

I liked the restaurant but was not overly excited about the meatloaf. It was just mediocre, but the mashed potatoes were amazing. My wife has the salmon and loved it. Service was pretty good, just not a very memorable meal I guess. Perhapsbi will try something different next time… If there is a next time.

I enjoyed a 6 oz fillet here last night. The service was very good, I would give everything 4* but the steak was so good and I find the perfect steak so hard to find I’m raising my review based on steak only. Ordered medium rare and it was cooked perfectly and so tender and flavorful. The Ahi Tuna appetizer was good too. My friend had Asian chop chop salad and it was good too.

Houlihans is one of those places that I go back to about once or twice a year, but every time I have pretty much the same experience. I really like some of their food. The Shrooms are worderful as an appetizer, and so far all of their entrees are fresh and taste good. But then I get the bill, and I feel basically like I got food and service that is similar to applebees, chilis, and some of the other family restaurants/bar and grills, but it costs me twice as much in the end. For a similar meal that I would eat at applebees, the bill would be about 30 – 35 dollars. At Houlihans, for myself, my daughter and girlfriend to go, costs around $ 60. I can’t say anything negative about the food, but just price comparing I always feel like I spent too much for what I got when I leave.

Rarely will I eat at chain restaurants. When I say rarely, I mean r-a-r-e-l-y. I can probably count on my fingers how many times a year I eat at what I refer to as «big box restaurants.» Let me just say that for what it is, I love Houlihan’s. My most recent visit was for *da da dum* date night! We were in a no fuss-no guess mood for food so with menus in hand we settled on calamari, fish tacos, and the margherita flatbread. The calamari and tacos are always a home run for me. For years I can say I’ve been a fan of the fish tacos! The flatbread was a good size and perfectly crisp. But wait! There’s more… I discovered their angry orchard Long Island iced tea! It was delicious EXCEPT not well mixed. My boyfriend was a bit disappointed that I got the stronger glass from the pitcher.(They split the pitcher into glasses before bringing it to our table – is that normal? Never ordered a pitcher here before.) His was substantially weaker which I’m not sure how that’s possible with a Long Island in general. Wanting to indulge a bit more, we also opted for the mini martini flight for a little bit of sampling action. You can pick a combination of 3 different martini/cocktails for only $ 9! Our flight consisted of the mango ginger mini, x-rated flirtini mini, and the hibiscus mini. All were distinctly unique on their own level. Maybe it’s because I’m a girl’s girl, the x-rated was my favorite among the trio. The patio seating is definitely one of my favorite reasons why I keep coming back to Houlihan’s. It’s so open and when the weather is good, it just makes it that much better.

Alright, for a chain, Houlihan’s is doing it right. Awesome happy hour pricing on food and drinks, plus a great selection. The place is large and friendly and we had really great service. They have a wide selection(with tons of vegetarian options) and if I haven’t convinced you yet: $ 5 liter Long Islands during Happy Hour.

UPDATE After my last experience I was contacted by management. They expressed concern and requested that I give them another chance(in the name of transparency, they also provided a voucher to use towards a meal.) What a change a few weeks makes. This time upon entering the restaurant we were greeting immediately by a smiling face who seated us. Service was prompt and professional. Our server Robert was great. Our glasses were never empty and he checked on us just the right amount of times. The food, as always, was good. In had Heartland Chicken Salad — It is a favorite of mine. It is obvious the management has made some changes(I didn’t recognize any of the wait staff.) Everyone we saw was friendly and smiling and providing great service. I am happy to say that my experience last night won my business again. After all, a world without their awesome parmesan frites is a world I don’t want to live in.

We called to make a reservation and the lady over the phone said we had one. Upon arriving they told us we never had one and we would have to wait. After a 10 minute wait we were seated only to be greeted by our waiter 10 min later and apparently 9 waters takes an additional 10 min as well… After finally placing our orders we received our food over an hour later. I ordered the same thing I always have at the one down by Prairie Village(keep in mind I’ve never been able to finish mine — 10+ times) and I can easily say I’ve been more satisfied with a McDonalds happy meal… Food size was ridiculously small and was luke warm(my guess been sitting back there forever) the manager came out and apologized for the long wait and offered us a free desert however we had places to go and didn’t want to wait an additional hour to get our desert so we left and they didn’t even discount our meal. if I wouldn’t ever have eaten at the one down by Prairie Village I would never be returning to a Houlihan’s location… Never returning to the one on Boardwalk

Friendly attentive service. Food quality is great. Bar has lots of tvs and lots of sitting areas, great to watch the game. Happy hour specials are pretty great for both appetizers and drinks.

Hello new favorite place to stop in on my way back to the airport! Catching a late flight out of KC, I stumbled upon this Houlihans location while looking for a gas station… Call it divine intervention! I further stumbled upon Happy Hour with half-priced apps, so dial me up an order of wings(sesame ginger) and fresh made pretzels! If you’ve read my other reviews, you know I grind on wings, and these were ok(not great). But who cares? They have pretzels! Order these and blow your low-carb diet… All is good with the world(now if that huge black-cloud on the horizon will cooperate just long enough for me to catch an on-time departure from KCI/MCI)… Here’s the rundown: Satisfied? Yes(Pretzels!) Return? Yes(Pretzels!) Advocate? Yes(Pretzels!)

This chain has been in this location for going on 10 years probably but we’ve only gone here twice. Not sure why really. The food isn’t bad or anything at all. At least, it wasn’t on our two visits. The parking lot is always pretty full on weekends and seems busy on week nights too. Our most recent visit was in early February. The meals were pretty good(I had the fish tacos). Service was good as well. Really no complaints. Nothing to complain about, and really a-okay!

Do restaurants change over time, yes, and not always for the better. Hit the Sunday happy hour tonight, but the experience was anything but happy. Sat in the bar area, TV’s were initially on sitcom stations, may not be a big thing, but restaurants should be in tune to the popular events on, maybe March Madness, and KU was just on. There were 7 tables occupied, and 6 servers. We ordered our drinks, but after 10 minutes, I had to ask where my beer was, this was an indication of the lack of service we received all night. As a former server, there are some basics I expect, filled drinks, check on the table a few minutes after the meals are served, and empty plates be removed when a server drops the check. Let’s just say none of these happened. Then there’s the food, and feeling like you got a fair amount of food for the price. My sons ordered standard fair, one had the burger, the other, chicken fingers. Those were not bad. My wife, had a chicken sandwich with bacon and asparagus. $ 14, for a chick-fil-a sandwich, and 4 pieces of asparagus, served on a plate designed to hold at least 10 more sandwiches. I had the pulled pork sliders and fries, with a side of edamame, that we’re flavorless, and sprinkled with black and yellow sesame-like seeds. I will say, the pulled pork sliders had a good flavor. Again, portions were the issue, not the flavor, and this whole meal started with a server that seemed bothered we sat down, she won’t have to worry about us again. We used to frequent this spot several times a month, but over the last year, I can understand why we’ve taken our out to dinner dollars to different locations. I think it’s going to be a long time before we’re back.

Although Houlihans is a chain, this particular location doesn’t have that vibe at all. I’ve been coming here on a weekly basis for happy hours with friends and have never been disappointed. They have great happy hours, a wide selection of drinks and healthy food choices. Everything is priced well, too. The thing that impresses me the most is their consistent good service. Its always great and if there’s a small mishap, they’re always so accommodating in fixing it. For example, my husband ordered a draft beer and it tasted flat not once but twice and they were more than happy to replace them. Apparently their lines had just been replaced and they were happy the issue was discovered before their dinner rush. Like I said, I’m typically not a chain type of person but this place is exceptional. Weekly happy hours will happily continue here!

Yesterday was my first time coming and I will definitely come back! The hostess only gave us one menu instead of also including the special menu. Good thing we asked about any specials because the dishes on the special menu were absolutely amazing. My husband ordered the Pot Roast Mac n’ Cheese. If anyone loves pot roast, beer cheese, and Mac n’ cheese than this is definitely something you must try. I ended up having the seared scallops with an asparagus rissoto. Some of my scallops were overcooked and my meal arrived late! The rissoto, well… its a must have. I could do without the scallops! I also tried some of the chicken potato enchilada’s which is on the special menu. Next time, I’ll definitely get the enchilada’s. This place is great and I will definitely head back the next time I’m in Kansas City.

Attended a work party here tonight! There were 17 of us at one long table. No one had a complaint and everyones food came out as ordered, in a timely manner. I ordered the hummus and pita dip as an appetizer. It was delicious, and easily fed 3 – 4 people. For dinner I got the fish tacos. They weren’t bad, although I’ve had better. Overall service was as to be expected with a large party. Nice experience and would stop in again next time in the area!
