Pirates Bone is one of the best kept secrets as far as the coffee scene goes in KC. This awesome boutique coffee shop is located in the heart of Brookside and definitely does not disappoint. Zaid the owner is truly a genuine and passionate person who really cares and delivers on his customers needs. I love the coffee scene in KC and Pirates Bone is a perfect definition for what the coffee scene is like here. I love the diversity of the coffee drinks you can get here. My usual go to drink is a Cortado however I love one of their drinks called a «Sweet Misery» blended with chilis, cream, and a little espresso. They also offer a Cold Brew on Nitro on tap which is the perfect balance of hops and bitterness and awesome for a Hot Summer Day. Pirates Bone also delivers on food with some homemade pastries and a couple burrito options as well. Go visit Pirates Bone if you haven’t yet. Zaid will take great care of you! 5 Stars!

Blink and you’ll miss Pirate’s Bone, nestled into a tiny corner of shops on 59th and Holmes. Missing PB’ is a huge mistake — it’s easily one of Kansas City’s best independent coffee houses. They pan roast their coffee and you can definitey tell the small batch difference. My «apples to apples» comparison for coffee is drip coffee, black. PB’s is outstanding and ranks among my favorites. My other order here has been the Mexican Coffee, artfully prepared with steamed milk, cinnamon, cloves, and other spices. It is out of this world. I’d like to try their food during upcoming visits — it always looks appetizing and well prepared. Three cheers for Pirate’s Bone. It’s a tremendously unique place in a hip neighborhood. The coffee revolution in Kansas City is upon us, and Pirate’s Bone is among the leaders of the charge.

Good espresso and bare bones/laid back vibe. More diversity of options than most KC coffee houses — in addition to standards have matcha, unique«Mexican hot brew», nitro coffee blend, etc. Cool barista dude. Need more food options — for now go with the Uli’s toast with honey cinnamon butter — good stuff.

Chalk up another good thing for this neighborhood to add to Chai Shai just down the block a couple of doors. PB is nice little neighborhood espresso joint serving up from what I can tell a quite good pour. Service is friendly and the wireless is quick. Was looking forward to sitting on the patio out back but quite frankly it looked a mess. Someone said«we can clean that up if you’d like to sit out there.» Eh, no thanks. Prefer to not have to ask. Why would you have such a great space and then not have it available for customers? Still… I think they have a good thing going on here. My latte was expertly poured – they know their latte art here, but if you’re paying close to $ 4 for one I think you have the right to comment. I found the espresso a bit on the hard/bitter side which tells me the pack was a little heavier than necessary. Maybe that’s par. If you’re a coffee fiend and like me enjoy trying different shops around town you can’t go wrong here. Quite frankly, a morning doing some work on the laptop and then lunch at Chai Shai sounds like a darn fine plan.

Best Mexican Mocha in Kansas City, hands down. I love their Periodic Table of Elements inspired menu, too. Cool place and great care is taken making your drinks. Impressive.

Nice brews and staff tries to be helpful. Try a cold brew or one of the concoctions the staff has on the board. Sodas and other items are offered.

This is my first time here, but I already love it. I had an iced horchata and it was amazing. Super cool menu, friendly service, and a great vibe. The inside is cute and cozy, but if it’s nice out you need to sit on the back porch. If you haven’t been here yet, Pirate’s Bone needs to be the next coffee shop you visit in KC.

Last night my fiancé and I stopped by to check out the 2nd Friday event, first time and plan on going back. I had the dirty horchata and it was delicious! Liked this place so much I went back the next morning and got the Mexican hot brew, again it was great!

Cute little coffee shop that we almost drove past. We tried the cinnamon latte and the sweet misery latte, along with a chocolate croissant. Everything was excellent!

I absolutely LOVE this place. It’s so much better than any other coffee place I’ve been too. I go to UMKC a few blocks away and I make my way other to get a Mexican Hot/Cold brew whenever I can. I recommend this place to absolutely anyone who lives in the area. I love how small it is, Zaid is so friendly and always knows what I want when I walk in the door. If I drive anywhere near here, even 10 blocks away I will stop in to get my favorite drink. I haven’t tried much because the Mexican Hot Brew is perfect. If you are ever in the area just stop in for a cup of coffee, or bring your laptop because its a quiet, good smelling place to study.

I’m such a fan of this place. It’s such a cool joint. The owner is so friendly and willing to talk about the products. I normally don’t know what I want when I go in there. I’m determined to try different things. I haven’t been disappointed yet. He’s always good to talk me through my flavor wants for the day. He has teas and coffee drinks there. He has both hot and cold drinks. He even makes his ice out of coffee so it doesn’t dilute the drink overall. I really appreciated that. There is also various pastries there. The prices are really reasonable, comparable to most other coffee spots. I really enjoy going here. I try to make it here every time that I’m next door.

I have tried so hard to like this place. When they first opened down the street from my house I was extremely excited. They’re a local cutesy little shop with a great back patio and friendly staff/owner. Today was the third time I visited this place, on every single occasion they have been out of what I attempted to order. The first time I stopped by I ordered an iced coffee which came lukewarm, the second time I stopped by I asked for a bubbly cold brew(listed on menu at the time) and was told they no longer serve these. Today when I ordered an iced tea I was told they were out of ice. Aftet confirming their Wi-Fi password I ordered another drink and sat down only to find out the Internet was not working. It’s a bummer this place has been such a disappointment it would have been nice to have an alternative to the over crowded corporate feel of the roasterie in Brookside.

Went in mid-morning on a quiet Sunday and had hours of fun conversation and amazing food at this place. The had amazing meat pies by Piehole KC – I got the breakfast one – and I was made a fresh Mexican Cold Brew to sip while we laughed. I love this place. I will be back when the weather cools down for some patio fun too.

If you like intimate settings and nicely made rich vex coffee — then this is the perfect place for you… I’ve visited now a handful of times as its in my neighborhood and I really like supporting a local shop. It’s really a nice inviting place. Apart from the intimate insides, the location hides a small outside patio area where you can enjoy your drink and get away from your day. I find the owner to be friendly — talkative, receptive and open. If you are in the mood for something original, and I would say honest, then yes– this place comes highly recommended.

«Hot damn, that’s a good cup of coffee.» Literally the words that came out of my mouth when I tasted a pour-over of the Mexico coffee Saïd has right now. I came here predominantly out of curiosity, and I’m glad I did! They have an interesting menu, set up like the Periodic table of elements, with the regular stuff(including affogato aka espresso over ice cream, just FYI). I spoke with the owner Saïd and he told me his story. He started on the food end, but then got interested in coffee, started roasting beans in a pan, saw this space available via Craigslist, and went for it! Pretty cool space inside with lots of reclaimed wood accents and eclectic décor. Small espresso machine, but I heard the espresso it makes is pretty awesome :) I’m a pour-over kinda gal; it takes a few more minutes, but it’s ALWAYS worth the wait. They have a pastry selection from Scratch bakery, it looked like. Also, the front of the space is a sitting area with a few tables so possibly a good place to come study or read. And I saw a sign saying there’s a 2nd Friday event TOMORROW where the Plantain District truck will make an appearance! Coming from this veteran barista: if you like coffee, you ought to check this place out.

Alright coffee fans, listen up — we’ve got another place to frequent. It’s hard to believe how rapidly the caffeine scene in KC has climbed, but it really has become a staple in our town, and I couldn’t be happier about it. Pirate’s Bone piqued my interest as we walked into the neighboring Chai Shai for dinner, with it’s cozy looking, unassuming façade tucked into the neighborhood shops. I’m a sucker for those neighborhood spots that aren’t beige colored strip malls, and this place certainly shines in that regard. The atmosphere in here is very cool and unique. It owns it’s own identity with authenticity. By that, I mean it’s not just trying to capitalize on a trend by slapping up reclaimed wood, but instead it feels genuine. They also have a back terrace/patio that looks fantastic to visit on a warmer morning. I opted for the owner’s(Zaid) favorite blend in pour over fashion and enjoyed every drop of it. It took a few minutes as the quality coffees usually do, so if you’re looking for quick drive-thru style, this won’t be it. The emphasis is on quality and enjoyment of coffee here. This is an entrepreneur launching his dream and supporting it is not only rewarding with great coffee, but in helping someone launch their dream. That’s one of the main reasons that Unilocalers love shopping locally, and I can nearly guarantee you’ll fall in love with this little shop if you pay it a visit.

New favorite coffee place! The super nice gentleman who runs Pirate’s Bone is passionate about coffee, and it shows. I go to the nail salon(Nailtique) next door every 2 weeks, and I will definitely stop by Pirate’s Bone to pick up a cup to go and some fresh roasted beans for my husband on my way home. He is extremely tough to please when it comes to coffee, and the products here really impressed him. Just a bit of FYI– this place is so new that there’s not even a sign up yet. But there’s a brightly colored sandwich type chalkboard right outside its front door. Don’t drive past it just because there’s no sign yet. :)
