Their food is always fresh and delicious. It’s unfortunate they provide the worse customer service in KC. No one smiles and everyone acts like they are doing you a favor. I’m a very easy patron so who knows how others are treated. I’d stay away until ownership figures out how to change the stuffy atmosphere.

The Mixx is a perfectly adequate place to grab a salad or sandwich over lunch… and that’s the best thing I can say about it. It’s also literally right across the street from my office and is probably one of the healthier options for a quick bite in the area, so I end up here more than I probably would otherwise. After trying just about everything on the menu for the sake of variety, I do find myself coming back to two dishes that I think rise above the rest. On the salad side, the Rustic Beet lives up to its name, providing a farm’s worth of roasted beets, sweet potatoes, spinach, and arugula, accented nicely by goat cheese tang and some sliced almond crunch. The herby kick of the tarragon shallot vinaigrette adds to the garden-in-your-mouth that I think the dish succeeds with. The Curry Sweet Potato Wrap is my go-to sandwich option when I’m in the mood for some carbs and/or have an Indian craving but don’t want heaps of rice. It’s exactly what it sounds like — a traditional tomato curry base with coconut and chili flavors, made a little sweeter by the roasted spuds. It does deviate a little from the norm in the tortilla, a chipotle chili and peppers wrap that provides a slightly spicy punch. Other than those two items, I could take or leave everything on the menu, and I certainly wouldn’t go out of my way to hit up this place, especially at $ 10 a pop for a salad or sandwich with some protein thrown in. Convenience is king, though, and as long as The Mixx is mere steps away from my office, I’ll continue to give them my money. I just won’t be terribly excited about it. As a side note, I also wish The Mixx would provide easily accessible nutrition information on their set menu. As a place that touts its healthiness, it would be good to have calorie counts for those who are trying to keep track of that data or to know that there aren’t any hidden ingredients in their dressings that aren’t specifically called out in the item descriptions. Speaking of ingredients, be wary of random things being thrown in your salads. The line workers are fast and courteous, but that speed comes with a price… and that price sometimes means a rogue olive(coming from someone who doesn’t like olives) or other veggie/cheese/nut getting tossed into your«Mixx.»

The Mixx offers the best fast casual experience in KC. The salads are original and tasty. l and seemingly healthy. I love the chicken pretzal sando. The juice bar in the OP location offers many refreshing option that include ginger, my favorite. Eat here.

If I were a composer of any merit, I would compose an Ode to the Mixx. The Mixx provides speedy, delicious, healthy, local, fun, and consistent foods! My personal favorite is the Sante Fe Chicken Salad: black beans, corn, tortilla strips, cotija cheese, and a jalapeño lime vinaigrette Also, the rolls are stupendous, whole grain and so savory! Great selection of wines(though not very large) and local beer options from Boulevard Brewery. Finally, and hard to resist, are the baked goods available by the cash registers… LOOKAWAY or you might be compelled to get that peanut butter cookie with a chocolate swirl. This time of year in the springtime, if you’re lucky, you’ll snag a seat on the deck with the warm sunshine and blue skies. The inside dining area is nice, too. Great for lunch or dinner, ANYTIME!

Delicious! I love the beer cheese soup and I wish they had it available everyday. It gets really crowded around lunch time so be prepared. But the quality and deliciousness of the food makes the wait worth it.

I love the Mixx. Quick service, a good variety of salads, and friendly employees. Prices seem to be in line with other salads that don’t come from a fast food place. They do cook up the chicken and salmon ahead of time and I have to question how long it sits. Not that I have had a bad piece, but have been there in the middle of the afternoon when the grill is full. Trying to find quick healthy options can be hard, but the Mixx solves that.

I had a curry sweet potato wrap and added the smoked tofu. I really enjoyed the flavors… there is a lot going on in this wrap! If there is a long line(lunch hour), plan on a little wait… or order ahead and it’ll be ready when you get there!

Two stars only because my salad was delicious, which is what I expected. The restaurant itself, and management, were a disaster. Walked in to order where the large menu is located on the wall, and where it says«order» above the guy making food. Told them I wanted a wrap and salad and they told me I couldn’t order there, and had to go around the corner to order at the register. The lady at the register did not have good customer service, I ordered my wrap, then she told me I needed to go BACK to the other line if I wanted to order a salad. When I looked confused she said she could just order it for me. 9 tables had food left on them, that sat there our entire 30 minute dining time, and the same individual came out and saw all the tables with leftover plates and food and didn’t clear them. We were sandwiched between tables that required us to look at dirty plates and leftovers our entire meal. My boyfriend tried to order all three items on «today’s pick» menu at eye level when you walk in and was told they didn’t have any of them. They did the same thing to him when ordering and he had to go back and forth, and ended up not getting a single thing on the menu he wanted because nothing listed could actually be made. He NEVER complains about service or locations and was very unhappy with our lunch and the rudeness of staff. Will not be back to the Main Street location. They need to have some serious pep talks with management and reconfigure the way this place works.

I just love The Mixx. As a student at a nearby University, the Mixx was a staple in my restaurant rotation during school. No longer a Kansas City resident, I often crave The Mixx and continually wish they had one in Indianapolis. Here are just a few of the reasons why I am a loyal customer: –High quality ingredients –Consistent and outstanding food preparation –Good presentation –Comfortable and inviting dining environment –Quick in-and-out if you need food for carry out, but also… –Great and reasonable space to have a long lunch catching up with a friend –Nice drink options –Delicious sweet treats The Mixx: A dining experience after my own heart.

One of our favorite restaurants in Kansas City. As a vegetarian with an omnivore partner, we usually eat at restaurants where maybe, just maybe there’s a good veggie burger or salad. At the Mixx, it’s not problem for both of us to find lots of menu options we love. My favorite is the Veggie Stack sandwich, which consists of herb grilled portobello mushroom, roasted red peppers, grilled sweet onions, havarti cheese and arugula with tzatziki on focaccia bread. Amazing sandwich. My partner gets fish tacos which he says he loves. My sandwich with a side comes to about $ 10.00, which isn’t unreasonable for such a delicious, healthy meal. The first time we ate here we did, like some other reviewers, find the layout of the ordering area a bit strange. The trick is that if you’re ordering from the menu, stay on the right. If you’re ordering a salad, stay left. If all else fails, just watch what others are doing. They’re probably confused too. Forge ahead and get your food, though! You’ll be glad you did. The Mixx is a wonderful KC restaurant.

The Mixx, some people love you and some people hate you. I find this to be a troubling situation. I have eaten at The Mixx many a time(at least 6 times). The aspect of all my visits to this establishment has been the foods’ consistency. If one is in the mood for a pretty darn good salad, then I would suggest you go eat here; you will not be disappointed in their salads! It is too bad that their salads(and rest of the menu) are moderately overpriced, but the tastiness of the salads is worth the extra few bucks. When ordering one of their fine salads you must order the small size for the larger size is so huge that it would be too much for a giant family of rabbits! Lastly, before moving on to the serious issues here, the ranch dressing here is 100% delicious & perhaps the best ranch I have EVER tasted in my life! The sandwiches here are hit and miss as are the soups. I have eaten a sandwich(I think the one with Brie cheese on a baguette) & it was a 5⁄5 easily; however, I have also had a sandwich here that was horrific(so bad that I cannot remember which one it was, perhaps the roast beef?). As previously mentioned the soups can be great or nearly inedible. In summation, the salads at the Mixx(their specialty) are a 5⁄5; the sandwiches, soups, and pastas range from 1⁄5 to 5⁄5. The service is a solid 4⁄5; and, most importantly, if their was a ranch dressing rating The Mixx would earn a 10⁄5! On that note, if you are in the mood for salad(or über tasty ranch) then try out The Mixx… you just might like it!

Lots of quality ingredients. The menu and ordering process is a bit confusing at first. I have had the Salmon Blt(10.25) a few times now, and it’s always delicious. Salmon tastes excellent, the bread is delicious and seems very fresh. I normally upgrade my side to a bowl of soup for 1.50. I have had the pasta salad as a side and it was also good, although very tiny portion. They cook it to order, one of my newer spots I’ve become a regular.

The mixx works for a quick Togo salad, but beware a lot of the food ends up being very salty. Almost every mixx in tastes like it has been precoated in salt. Parking can be chaotic depending on what time of day you’re going there, and the line inside can be just as chaotic. Biggest downside to the place is the service. In a country where a lot of people can speak dual languages you can’t exactly cuss in Spanish and think no one knows what you’re saying. It is not a «secret language» that only few understand. I don’t want the people making my food to be cussing and trash talking people in any language, especially right infront of me, save that for when you’re in the back out of earshot, not when you’re infront of customers.

I really really want to give this place more stars because the food is GREAT. However, there are too many factors that negatively impact the dining experience. *FOOD* Amazing. A salad-lover’s dream. Heck, it’s even a salad-hater’s dream. Their salads are not your typical fast food salad; they are fine dining salads in a fast food environment with really awesome mix-ins to bulk it up and make it interesting. Their sandwiches sound great but their salads are so delicious I don’t want to stray. Mix-ins they have that make for unique and tasty salads: pumpkin seeds, jalapeño cornbread croutons, Brussels sprouts, falafel, caramelized onion, fennel, a wide selection of flavorful house-made(I think?) dressings. Even their bagged potato chips are especially delicious; they’re from a brand I’m not familiar with(even though I spend more time than I’d like to admit perusing potato ship aisles of grocery stores for new options). *ORDERING* Walk in the door at lunch time and you’re lucky to walk 2 steps inside. Whoever designed this place was not planning for it to be a success since the corral where you’re supposed to stand in line for your food doesn’t accommodate too many people. If there are 10 people(or so) in line, the entrance(2 feet away) becomes super congested. Be prepared to wait; it took us 25 minutes to get to the front when 11 people were in front of us. While you wait in line, they have menus to browse. GREAT! It would make things way easier if you could check off what you wanted(which salads, or what you want in your custom salad) and hand it to the person when you get up front. Instead, you have to shout your order to the salad guys who are strained to hear you over all the noise. I wanted a custom salad, but didn’t want to fight with the noise and the potential language barrier with the salad guys, so I chose an item off the menu. *VIBE* The dining area of the restaurant near the Plaza is really pretty. It looks fresh, clean and new. Tables have been very clean both time’s I’ve been here. There is a bud vase with fresh sprigs of flowers on the tables. There is always ample seating, even during rushed lunch time. That said, everyone working there seems very overwhelmed all the time. It seems like a lot of their frustrations could be alleviated by a more thoughtful ordering process. Once when I went, I was the only person in line and waited longer than necessary to order. The salad makers kept telling me to wait but didn’t seem to be doing anything, then when one guy finally started to take my order an put an ingredient in the bowl, the manager yelled across the kitchen to him to make an order for someone else who said he made their salad wrong. I’m not sure why she felt she had to yell it across the kitchen or why she had to do it right in the middle of my order(had she waited 30 seconds I would have been on my way). He ended up tossing the order he started in a bowl for me because he wasn’t sure what he had already put in it, then he started over again. Sigh. *ETC* There’s a fountain soda machine(instead of cans or bottles of soda): yay! It has Coke products(not Pepsi): YAY! At the table where you get your utensils and condiments, they have a selection of hot sauces(including sriracha). Love it. They provide butter tabs for your bread that are actually spreadable, not as frozen as an ice cube like you find at many restaurants. SUGGESTIONTOMANAGEMENT If I could make a suggestion to management, it would really help minimize frustration and maximize happiness if diners could check off what they want while in line, and hand it to the preparers in exchange for a number diners could display for someone to bring them their salad when it’s ready. That would ease ordering issues and minimize the congestion at the entry. I may not mind waiting 25 minutes for my salad if I was seated instead of standing in line.

I met a friend here for dinner at his suggestion. It was my first time here. I was confused about where it actually was and where to park, later realizing there was TONS of parking through the garage entrance. I parked in the street this time but won’t next time. This is the kind of place where you order at the counter cafeteria-style. Yes, it was a tad confusing on how and where to order but I followed where the line was and asked questions… when in Rome… I ordered the Salmon Thai Salad mini. Mini is quite large for me but I ate every bite, it was so delish. The cooked slab of salmon lay over the top of mixed greens, grated carrots, and small green lima-like beans, with a sweet-tangy dressing nicely drizzled over everything. I got a small cup for my tea and concocted my own mix of green tea and a fruit flavored tea at the station. Price was reasonable for the quality of food. I’m sorry I didn’t get pics, so I’ll HAVE to return. :)

I’ve spent the last several months trying to sort out my feelings about the Mixx and after last night’s visit I think I’m ready to make my report! Why I go there… the pretzel chicken sandwich with SWEETPOTATOFRIES. Can’t get enough of them! This is an example of a meal that I like so much that I don’t ever plan on ordering anything else when I come here because what’s the point? Here’s what I don’t care for… As many reviewers have already described, the layout is pretty crazy and not in a good way. You order salads and soups in one line, other items you see a member of staff who holds an iPad, and beyond that I’ve got no idea! Fortunately I tend to show up here before the place gets too packed but I bet it gets really messy at times. Prices are also a bit high. My sandwhich and fries cost $ 11 before tax and while the fries come in a large portion, the sandwhich is pretty small, at least for a glutton like me! Also, when my wife tried to add on a side salad to her wrap yesterday she was told it would cost an extra $ 2.99 but the menu said $ 1.50. She’s not an argumentative type so she just added sweet potato fries instead, which brings me to the last part! She had to get to class so the order was to go. After waiting a few minutes we saw someone pull out a fresh batch of fries to go with the order — problem was that they were regular fries! So then, in goes the batch of sweet potato fries until a few minutes later they are brought out too. We can see the meal being assembled, left to sit, assembled some more, then left to sit again. We were tempted to jump behind the counter and grab the damn thing! Finally after being asked by two other employees what number our order was, it was finally brought out. So then, I really like the food but I’m going to take that experience as a warning sign of potential things to come. Note to self — avoid coming here during any type of rush!

Last time I came here, I paid like $ 10 for a mini salad :(If the food was just a couple of dollars cheaper it would be more reasonable. Even though I’ve been here like 7 times I still get flustered by the layout and where to go to order every time I come(salad line is separate from sandwiches/whatever). I’ve found building my own salad to be the best option because I can customize it to my liking, especially because I’m vegetarian and a lot of their menu salads have meat. Out of the menu salads, though, the garden of eden is fabulous and seems to be a popular option. Overall good food, but just too pricey, especially for the portion sizes.

I don’t eat at/near the Plaza very often, but I was at the library and decided to have a bit of a treat. I ordered Vegan Chili and a small macaroni and cheese. I’m not Vegan, but the chili was really good! Thank goodness I ordered the SMALL macaroni and cheese because it was huge. After I had the cup of chili, I could only eat about 1⁄3 of the macaroni and cheese, so I took that home for a treat later.

3.5 stars. I really, really love the food at The Mixx, but as other reviewers have mentioned, the layout of the restaurant is ridiculous. It’s just plain stupid and completely user un-friendly. They even remodeled recently, but they kept their dumb way of ordering. I don’t understand it, and I don’t understand why they insist on keeping it that way. Every time I go I mention to someone working that I love their food but hate their ‘system.’ They usually just give me a blank stare, but on my most recent visit, the gentleman I was talking with said, in a hushed tone, «I know. It’s terrible.» I asked him why they don’t just have it set up like Panera or Chipotle or one of the thousands of other restaurants that have a similar vibe and he leaned in close to me and said, very conspiratorially, «I don’t know. I wish they’d change it, but I can’t do anything about it, because I’m not in charge.» It made me feel a bit better to know that he was on my side, but still– it’s just bizarre! If you’ve never been– I heartily recommend the food– it’s not a huge menu but there’s a good selection of soup, sandwiches, and already created salads, or you can create a salad from a list of ingredients. It’s easy to stay on a healthy track here. They do however sell cupcakes… But beware that you will struggle through a geometric maze trying to figure out how to order. If you want soup and salad do you go to the window that says ‘soup’ or the window that says ‘salad’? And where do you go if you want a sandwich? There are sandwiches on the menu, but no signs for them. I mentioned it to one of the cooks and he said ‘you just tell the guy over there.’ Turned out he was pointing to a guy who was organizing a drink fridge. I went over to him and said ‘I guess I’m supposed to order my sandwich from you?’ He said yes, and I asked him how I was supposed to know that. He said ‘well usually I’m standing at that counter.’ And how was I supposed to know THIS?! There’s no sign and nowhere on him was The Mixx logo or a name tag. He said ‘they never put the sign back after the remodel.’ I KIDYOUNOT! I get the feeling that The Mixx powers-that-be are watching everyone navigate their cruel labyrinth from a Closed Circuit TV in the back and laughing at us. The ordering system is so bad that I know several people who refuse to go there. My mom and I love their food, though, so we braved the ‘system’ a couple weeks ago, and our food was dynamite. I do wish they still had the chicken salad sandwich on the menu, though. It was so good, on a croissant especially. Maybe one day they’ll realize that their ‘system’ is stupid, but until then, I’ll brave it occasionally just to enjoy their food. Sigh. *edited to say 3.5 stars. The food is 4.5÷5, but the ordering system is such a bummer.
