Trios Mexican Grill

So, a couple of weeks ago I made reservations for a group of 20 people to have a private room today. I was told I would need to pay a deposit. I did not want to do this over the phone so I called one week ago to confirm the reservation. This time no mention of a deposit. Yes, they had my reservation. Well, you can imagine my surprise today when our group showed up and the restaurant is closed for remodel!!! No courtesy phone call or anything. BROTHER!!!
Thankfully La Finca on Mason took our group in and showed excellent customer service.
So unprofessional of Trios. The sign on the door says they will open as another restaurant. I now understand why.

This is the worst Mexican food restaurant in the area. I would much prefer Tony’s on Mason, El Jarrito, or Ruthies on 99. There are too many choices in Katy now to a) serve substandard over-​priced food and b) treat your customers dishonestly.
Last night, we were at a party at Trios and my wife and I both ordered the chile rellenos and I ordered the children’s plate enchiladas with an extra enchilada for my daughter. The waitress said she would just bring us the adult enchiladas as it would be the same as the kids meal.
When my wife and got our entrée, we each had ONE chile relleno. The menu clearly said it came with TWO rellenos. I asked the waitress about this discrepancy and she said, well, this one was bigger than normal. I said but the menu said the order consists of two rellenos. I was made to feel like a problem because I asked them to honor what was on the menu. So she said she would get the kitchen to make us our other rellenos to go. I said that would be fine. She brought a to go box in a bag and it was all tied up real tight.
We finished the evening and got the bill. It was not what we expected. We had been sold the adult enchiladas but on the bill, it’s not the same as a kids meal (which we ordered for my 9 year old daughter) The kids meal is 4.99 and includes the kids soda. An extra enchilada is 1.99. The adult meal is 8.99 and doesn’t include drink (an extra 2.50). So 7 bucks vs 11.50. Ripoff and lied to.
So we weren’t happy when we left but the next day, went to heat up the take out rellenos for lunch and guess what… They had only included ONE, even though she fully told me one for each meal that we ordered. That explains why the bag was tied up so tight.
A quick comment on the margaritas too. I found their margaritas to be weak and did not taste very good. They also did not come with salt even though we specifically ordered them with salted rim. Tony’s has the best margarita I’ve had in the area, especially ordered half frozen and half rocks.
Anyway, just a warning to check your meal to see that you actually get what you order/​pay for and that you don’t listen to the waitstaff.
Good luck if you eat here or better yet, try one of the other three places I recommend in the first of this review and have a meal worth bragging about.

I can’t even describe this place. I don’t know what happened but this place used to be good. We sat on the patio and it was nasty. We were there 15 minutes and not one table got cleaned. I had to get up and get my own refill from bar and had to get up to ask for more chips and salsa. My wife’s beef tasted nasty. I just cut out another restaurant in Katy.
It needs to close.

Would not go back again. Sat inside. The mosquitoes were horrible inside, 4 bites just on my feet. Taco meat was cold, rice bland. There was ZERO soap in the women’s restrooms (so no waitress had washed their hands properly, food code violation, and not to mention gross). I notified a staff member who was in the restroom (and didn’t use soap) but none brought. Had my husband get soap from men’s restroom to use. Chicken enchilada was temperature hot, so that was good. Husbands spicy watermelon margarita was not drinkable.

Can’t get a meal correct, no one speaks English, total miscommunication,
They add beans even though it’s not listed on the menu so they can save on beef, not worth it, go somewhere else…
Nice building, good hot sauce, only reason they received 2 stars.

Randomly found Trios on a Friday at about 3pm.
Seated immediately, fairly empty.
Ordered peach and mango margaritas on the rocks. They didn’t look the best at first, but OMG hands down top 5 margaritas I’ve ever had!
Chips and salsa were amazing.
Entrees were decently sized and very filling.
Great service, attentive waitress and the bartender came over to ask us about the drinks. Just awesome overall experience.
DEFINITELY coming back!

Very nice selection of some tex mex favorites. The prices are good and you can’t complain about the happy hour. I had house margarita (around $ 7something) and it was big and delicious.
The kids love the outside playground.
We will definitely be coming back.

We’ve been going to this location for Mexican through all of it’s management changes. I would have to ask my daughter about the names it has been. She likes the attached playground. Food is pretty standard Texmex. Not anything to go crazy over but not bad either. I have always had good luck with the service. It’s a neighborhood staple

I’ve been here a few times and the food and service are always good. The restaurant is also very nice, but my complaint is that the music is way too loud! Hard to enjoy a nice date night with the blaring music!

It’s not the best Mexican food around but it’s decent. We came here Saturday for an early dinner and to allow our 3 year old to play. She really enjoyed playing with the other kids on the play ground. Not my first pick for Mexican food though.

Well to start the service isn’t great, my friend and I ordered queso to start, didn’t get it until after our meal was there. We each had a mararita on the rocks that were fine. The food didn’t seem bad, until 3 am rolls around and I wake up with food poisoning. I told my friend and she threw up in the middle of the night as well. I won’t go back because I’m scared to be this sick again from their food or drinks.

No idea how this place stays open. I have a step daughter who insists one going there for the play ground. I have eaten there probably 20 times, and I swear every time it will be the last, except for one visit a young black guy waited on us and he was fast, polite and got the order correct. Of course I never saw him again. Every visit we sit for ever, once for 50 minutes waiting on food, the food is usually wrong, and/​or usually terrible.

Service was ok and their chips and salsa wasn’t bad. I ordered fajita steak and it came swimming in oil (disgusting). My daughter ordered a «tres leches» for dessert and it couldn’t eat it. It was absolutely horrible. I don’t know what that was, but a «tres leches» it was not. I can’t find the right words to describe it… It had the consistency of a solid brick of marzipan maybe… Just terrible. The atmosphere was also bare and uninviting. Won’t be going back.

Went after work– 4pm… Place was quite empty… But still took a while to get service. Wine was very, very small amount for $ 6! Waiter heard us complain so he brought bottles out to give us more. — he got a good tip! Food was nothing great… Bathroom had sanitizer & lotion on counter– my friend & I used those thinking they were soap– then found soap on wall!!! Confusing!!! Will not be back!

Margaritas are delicious, as well as the combo app. plate, just wish it had more food on the plate haha. Other than that service was good and the atmosphere was pleasant.

Went there on friday and saturday. The music friday was amazing.
i couldnt understand anything, but that didnt mean i didnt appreciate it. she had an awesome voice and really livened up the place. the acoustics shoot thru the bar and restaurant, so its a little hard to order and hear each other. drinks were made well, servers were very attentive and were very friendly and accommodating.
a couple of things tho, i totally didnt see Flan on the menu which bummed me out. I ordered a crunchy taco. meat & cheese only. ground beef was bland. you can tell there are seasonings, but it didnt seem like it had onion it in, which is a staple (in my book)
will def be going back :)
SALSA IS AMAZING!

I’m not one to judge quickly. However, this was my 2^nd visit here. The service although better than the 1^st time was still noticeably below average. The chips and salsa came out AFTER the meal. The silverware came late as well. And, when my meal did arrive the order was wrong. Our server tried to correct the mistake only really to make matters worse by bringing out the correction in a sloppy form. Terrible plating. Over priced. I took a picture but can’t upload it. Your welcome.
The actual restaurant was nice. Clean. The bar is typical for a place like this but was still under par…
There is a guy (kid) playing music off his keyboard outside. Which would be really funny if it wasn’t so dreadfully sad.
Won’t be back.

To begin with, the salsa was impressive, but everything went down hill from there. The restaurant had nobody in there and the service was horrible. The waiter would disappear for 15 to 20 minute intervals before returning. The chips and salsa were not refilled automatically as I had to hunt the waiter down to make it happen. The enchiladas verdes and beef fajitas were very bland and unimpressive. Further, the margaritas were overpriced and didn’t taste good. They had a banana twinge to them. There are too many good Mexican restaurants in Katy for one to waste their time with this place. This adds to the list of so many Mexican restaurants that have occupied this building and ultimately failed.

Service was OK; well, kinda… I think there was a confusion about who is supposed to serve us that why we got our water AFTER our meal was served; the guy who brought chips apparently wasn’t our server so we never got our drinks… therefore we had to ask for drinks again when another guy brought our food — kinda frustrating;
Food wasn’t good. I got beef fajitas (don’t remember which one) and it was just soaked in oil… I mean yes it’s Mexican food and all bit I never saw that much oil in my fajitas so it grossed me out; taco cabana is much better;
