I have always had mixed feeling about Bonsai. I do love the food they make everything fresh. This location is very convenient for me. My issue with Bonsai is the service they provide. I have used their delivery service and never fails something always happens. I’ve ordered extra spicy mayo and they’ve left it out of our order {they do charge a $ 1 for it}. On a separate occasion the food lacked presentation, the soup had spilled all over. The roll was all over the place. This last occasion, which is the one that prompted me to write this review, I called to place an order for pick up. I was on hold for about 10 minutes. I hung up and called again and they took my order. I ordered a Miso Soup and a Green Salad. The person I placed the order with told me that it will be ready in 20 minutes. I find that ridiculous when it’s just soup and salad. My husband picked it up for me and the 1st thing I asked him was it that packed that it took 20 minutes. He advised me no it was not. In the picture I posted you will see that the container for the soup was filled only about half way. The Salad consisted of just 1 tomato, barely any carrots and 2 cucumber slices. I seriously have to consider if I want to continue ordering from Bonsai.

I ordered fried rice and call manager to tell him they are using old rice. Taste really bad and do know when it’s fresh. Manager don’t seen to care.

Came in on a Monday around 3:30pm wth a friend since she recommended this restaurant. My friend ordered a glass of Wine, and I ordered a Sprite. Our server by the name of «Villawan B» brought my friend her wine and forgot my Sprite. when I asked her for my Sprite, she questioned me like if I hadn’t order it. When it was time to order, I got a shrimp tempura roll(looked different than the ones seen on these Unilocal pics.) And a order of beef fried rice. The server brought me my shrimp tempura roll, but not my fried rice. When we asked her the status on the fried rice, she again questioned us as if we didn’t order it. Have in mind we came on a time where we were the only ones in the restaurant. Such a shame my first impression of this place was not good since I love the atmosphere and the sushi.

Bonsai is another one of my regular Sushi joints. When I lived close to 8th st and 137th ave, my wife and i were regulars at their original location. When we moved to Kendall, we were surprised to find they had a location off of Miller and 157th, which wasn’t too far for us. The sushi is here is great and very affordable, which is nice because there are a lot of over priced Sushi restaurants in Miami, The biggest draw for us though, is the Pad Thai. We have a huge fascination with the way that Pad Thai is cooked in New York City, and Bonsai is the only restaurant here that cooks this dish anywhere near the way that it tastes in NYC. This is our favorite dish here and the reason we always come back. I’m not sure why, but this particular location is always empty whenever we go. It’s kind of nice because we always have the place to ourselves, but I can’t imagine that being good in the long run. Either way they are still open and we keep going on. It’s my favorite place to get Sushi takeout from as well, as they are always very quick and the food is always ready when I arrive.

This place is incredible. The restaurant is very clean and spacious, and the décor is nice. But most importantly, the sushi is delicious! I also really enjoyed their Sakitini!

This place is great for sushi lovers, I myself am not a fan of sushi but this one was pretty good. I really liked the fact that they also have other dishes like fried rice for people like me that don’t love sushi! The place is very clean and has a nice ambient. I like the décor and very friendly staff.

My family and I stopped by yesterday for lunch. We had spider roll and fancy dragon roll. Both excellent but disappointed with the fried calamari. For entrées we had sizzling beef, pad thai, very big portions and both were delicious. Service was very good and friendly. Very nice time..

Decided to go back leaving behind my last negative experience because I do give restaurants second chances. I did not contact anyone as the manager suggested after my last review because I don’t write reviews with the intention to get anything free or discounted. Unfortunately this time around made it the last time I will set foot there because my husband and I were just there and walked out. We sat there for 19 minutes and not one person came to our table to offer us even water. It’s not like the place was busy because there were at least 10 tables empty. A party of 4 were seated beside us and within 2 minutes they were acknowledged and being attended to… that’s when we decided to get up and leave. My husband let the hostess know of the matter just as we were leaving… Her response…“oh I’m sorry”.

I went in today for lunch to celebrate my friend’s birthday. The interior design of the restaurant is very simple and modern. One thing that very upsets me is that they charged me 18% gratuity without my consent, and the waitress who served us has a terrible attitude. She seems she doesn’t care. In general, terrible service and okay food.

Ok food, terrible service. Ordered for pick up, arrived 30 min later, the host attended my husband, knew he was waiting, left him waiting inside the restaurant for 45 min and then said computer was down and our order was never even put in. Sadly we will not be returning.

This is unfortunate, because I eat here/take out at least once a month. Finally after signing up for the Friend with Benefits mailing list about a year ago, I received my first email on 12⁄22. I called this evening to place a take out order and was told to print the email and bring it with me. I arrived that the restaurant, ready to pay for order, presented my printed 10% coupon as instructed and was told that they needed to wait for the manager and I needed to show the email on phone not the printed one now. I waited about 3 – 4 mins as he was on a phone call. Hostessess were really nice, making small talk and apologizing for the wait. When manager arrived, the email was no longer in my inbox… and on that phone I can’t access any emails beyond my inbox(don’t ask me, guess I have the settings screwed up) either way, I had it printed. He proceeded to state that I had to present the email or he couldn’t honor it. Really? You are willing to lose my business over 10% off, 3.30 to be exact? Basic customer service has once again left Bonsai, and I hate to say it so have I… I will be eating at Ruson once again.

Wow. So I will start by saying that I have come to Bonsai about 5 times. I truly enjoy the atmosphere and I definitely enjoyed the first roll I tried. The tu tu mango. I also enjoy the Tom Kah soup with shrimp. I have tried 2 other rolls and yesterday I decided I wanted to try the Pink Panther Roll. Price on the menu said $ 12. Upon ordering it, the waiter alerts me that the price for that roll and a few others have gone up and they have not receive the new menus. He proceeds to tell me the price is now $ 17…a $ 5 price hike! Ridiculous. If you are going to make changes to your menu you better be certain that the your menus have arrived bc this is not a pleasant surprise to customers. I ended up choosing a different roll bc I refuse to pay $ 5 more for a roll that seemed pretty simple. I rather pay that price elsewhere where I am certain the rolls are more creative and tastier and where they don’t pull stunts like this. Giving the 2 stars just bc the other times where not a bad experience but they lost 1 stars for this past visit that equates to poor customer service.

Amazing lobster bomb! Beautiful presentation and the service is absolutely unforgettable. It’s in a small shopping strip on Miller drive and 157 avenue and does not seem like much but I can say it’s the BEST sushi I have had in a very long time! We started with the seaweed salad which was the freshest I have found ! Later we had tuna tartar also g-r-e-at !My boyfriend had the fried rice which was delicious and the lobster bomb unbelievable! I highly, highly recommend!

Holly crap this place suck. I had been looking forward to ordering from here for a while. I decide to it last night. I notice the bill was a little high but I guess it would be good. When I get there to pick up the food, the place looks fancy like it belong in brickel. I go and pick up the food. Come back to my house. They forgot my JB tampoura rolls. It took them an hour for them to deliver it and when it finally got here it was cold. They made the noodle mild instead of spice. The only reason you are getting a star cause you had fried Oreos.

I am a regular at Bonsai and have been ever since they first opened on 8th street. It’s always a great experience and mellow vibe every visit. Last night we went for my uncles birthday with a group of 9. We were at the miller location like usual and our servers name was Carolina. She was very on point! The food was great, my favorite roll is the PJ roll and I highly recommend it. That PJ roll is something else, fair warning! I will continue to support this place on a regular basis.

Love the Lobster roll and the Fried rice with the big tomato slices. Great for going when a big game is on, because they have a huge projection TV display on the entire wall.

Great atmosphere and great house music as you eat. The rolls are far by one of the best in miami. The lobster bomb is «the bomb»!!! Try the sparkling sake, fizz with your sake. The crunch roll is also a great roll to try. Service is outstanding as well.

So friendly! I work across the street and they delivered so quickly! I ordered the pad thai and my friend ordered the red curry chicken, both were flavorful and delicious.(We had the lunch special) and it was great pricing too! I usually eat at bonsai for the sushi. Any sushi you try from here, you’ll love. Some rolls I love are the PJ Roll, Volcano, Fox, Bonsai G and Crunch rolls!

Craving some Pad Thai this place has been on my radar for some time. I expected it to be packed on a Sunday so I ordered it to go only to arrive and find a completely empty restaurant. I love empty, good restaurants! I ordered a Chicken Pad Thai, some fried Dumplings, and a Coconut Seafood soup. Everything was delicious and I was impressed with the restaurant itself, it’s pretty big and very neat and open. Although the food was good I have to give them 3 stars on lack of attention to detail. They forgot my my white rice and the Pad Thai didn’t have any peanuts or nuts of any kind. The portion is nice but it’s still a bit pricey for noodles. I will return and try the dine in experience and perhaps try some of those Thai doughnuts.

It’s nice to know I don’t have to drive all the way to Maiko on the beach to have good sushi. I have a custom roll that I get when I go, and I love the freshness and quality of the sushi. Ambience is pretty cool, and can be casual or swanky. This place is now on my weekly rotation. Love it.

This is hands down my favorite sushi restaurant. The Lobster Bomb, Ninja Rolls, Fox Rolls are a few of my favorite rolls. However the Mango Roll is to die for! Spectacular! SoBe vibe in our own backyard. Desserts are amazing and the Pad Thai and Rockin’ Shrimp are absolute musts. I’ve hosted two small events at Bonsai and their party platters are fantastic!

First time visiting this location. Good service overall, the only part that was a bit confusing was why the hostess attempted to seat us, a family of 3 in a 2 person table when there were various tables available nearby. Food was good, enjoyed the spicy octopus salad & the Tu Tu Mango roll along with some hot sake.

I love this location as well as the 8st one. Food is good. Place is always clean. Service is good. Sushi is at the top of my list, always. I have eaten here many times, always left satisfied and happy. The Thai is a bit overpriced in my opinion, but I enjoy it and don’t mind paying it. Overall, great location.

I love the ambiance of this place. Looks modern, fresh and clean. Their food is yummy and doesn’t disappoint. It’s perhaps a bit pricier than other places but not a huge difference. I liked their wine selections for happy(2 for 1). Nice for a lunch with girlfriends or a date with your significant other.

I think I may have of found my new sushi spot. My friendly neighbor has been telling me about this place for awhile. I Finally decided to try it tonight. Boy was I pleased! The restaurant is well located. Parking is easy. Ambiance is inviting. Our waitress Debbie was super attentive and sweet. First I’ll say that any restaurant with a projector screen playing Lilo and Stitch gets an automatic star. Talk about keeping the kids under control while parents enjoy a drink. The tuna tartare was the perfect starter. I had the ninja roll and it was amazing. The kiddos had the beef teriyaki. They loved it. Very generous portions. My husband had the squid cooked in some sauce, I can’t recall what sauce and neither can he. But he liked it. For dessert we tried mango tempura with ice cream. It was pretty good. The mango flavor really stood out. I definitely will be back. There were many rolls on the menu that intrigued me.
