BAIT & SWITCH, NO ACCOUNTABILITY, & NO HONOR
As a La Jolla resident and business person I have come here often and usually had good service, however, when it came to making an early iPhone 5S sale, I was deeply disappointed & remain very concerned about the ethics of the store.
We came to the store on September 22^nd and we DID NOT wish to buy an iPhone 5S from this store, because the store did NOT have the Gold 32GB 5S that my daughter wants. Mario Guerriero and Russell Unger told us that the phone would be available within a few weeks and that they really wanted to make the sale now. They asked us to buy a black 16GB 5S which they currently had and promised us that they would contact us and swap it for the 32GB gold as soon as they got it. Furthermore, I was told that there would be NO additional fees for doing this. Based on this assurance and because by and large La Jolla Merchants keep their word and treat their customers well, we decided to do as Mario and Russell asked. They gave us a card with their names (hand written on it) and wrote the conditions that clearly stated the swap for the 32 GB Gold 5S with no fee. One of the store representatives signed this written statement providing us with the confidence to move forward.
I have called the store repeatedly over the last 3 months and the phone that was promised has still not arrived even 3 months later. Initially I was told that the phone would be in the following week and then the next few weeks, until in November I was told they had no record of this order or request. I asked repeatedly to have Mario Guerriero call me, but not once over the last three months have I received a call from Mario or any one else at Radio Shack regarding this situation even when the store representative promised someone would call or that he would make sure Mario got the message. I could understand when the phone was out of stock in September, but these phones have been in stock for months now.
On November 25^th we were running out of patience and so visited the store at which time they said they had a 32GB Gold phone in inventory and would order to have it arrive in the store in a few days. They asked us to pay the additional $ 100 fee for the difference between the 16GB phone they had originally given us and the 32GB phone that they needed to get. They did this transaction as a gift card although we received no such card since this was applied to getting the phone. 3 days later the phone never arrived and we were never called. Messages again for Mario to contact and update us were never returned. I have since visited the store two more times and told they would have Mario contact me. As a busy business person I have easily spent more than a few hours trying to sort this out. I am left with the very strong impression that this was an intentional bait and switch and that Mario and Russell never had any intention of honoring their promises. I have since spoken to another store and was told that this is NOT standard practice and that I should contact customer service and the district manager.
While under normal circumstances I might have demanded a full refund, this phone was purchased as an upgrade and so comes at a reduced fee. Once the upgrade has been used at Radio Shack purchasing a phone anywhere else would come at full price currently $ 749 plus shipping and tax. In other words we are stuck waiting with what seems like no hope of having them honor their commitment. I would NOT recommend coming to this store unless you absolutely have to. Send them the message that in La Jolla we expect businesses to behave ethically and honorably.

I have had nothing the BEST experience’s with this Radio Shack! Mario is the best, ALWAYS polite and ALWAYS working on getting me the best deal possible with my cell phones and any other electronic need. His entire staff are always so polite and willing to help as well. I HIGHLY recommend this store!!!

I want everyone to know that Mario Guerriro is one of the most honest and honorable business people I have ever met… He went above and beyond to take care of a very reiterating situations cause by Verizon. I encourage anyone to go to this store and no matter who helps you. They are supported by Mario the manager with integrity.

RadioShack ain’t the cheapest place to go but they’ve got it all in their prices are okay maybe a little high. Good place to go to get a phone very competitive will throw in some good discounts. Holidays are crazy they have the biggest selection of electronic toys and gadgets what a trip

The personal service at RadioShack on Pearl Street is outstanding! They offered more help than I even asked for and were not obligated to give. The manager and staff are extremely helpful, friendly and pleasant to deal with. They helped me lower the cost of my telephone account without me asking them to or even knowing that I could and saved me a lot of money in other ways as well. I highly recommend it to everyone who wants an extremely pleasant and satisfactory shopping experience.

This little shack is so convenient, and I am always lucky that they have what ever I needed, This time I needed a wireless 5 port router and they had it on sale for $ 49, the staff is always just remarkable, polite and just gentlemen, and they have parking that is a big bonus in LA JOLLA!
