The food was good. We enjoyed the filet and lobster. It was comparable to other restaurants we’ve been to in Seattle.

Went twice in 9 days. 6 of us with great service. Fish and veggies VERY fresh! Staff was friendly and entertaining. A little pricy but what isn’t in Maui. Will definitely go back. Make sure to make reservations early.

Visited this place one night while on vacation and we were very pleased with our meal! Our chef, Josh, was probably our favorite part of the night — he was pretty funny and very charming. We were seated with 3 other couples, some of whom were pretty picky about their ingredients(like no onion and«plain fried rice» whatever that means), but the chef was very accommodating. It’s a pricey meal, but I really liked the chicken and especially liked the fried rice(I recommend you upgrade your plain rice for this — it’s worth it!). The restaurant itself wasn’t spectacular, and was pretty hard to find. We called the hotel to ask where it was located and the person on the phone said«do you see any staff around you that you could ask?» WHAT?!

Better than any current teppanyaki place in Southern California. Very prompt and courteous service from the entire staff. We had at minimum 4 people that came by to check on us. And the show was a typical teppanyaki show. But our chef, Joshua was very personable.(And it turns out that our chef, Joshua Michael and our son Michael Joshua have the same birthday. Hilarious.) We had the Filet/lobster combo and fried rice. Wife had a made to order tofu dish. And the kids had pineapple chicken and teriyaki chicken dishes. All were great. And the amount of food you get is ample. Although the prices are a little high… you will certainly pay more elsewhere. (Tip: if you are an SPG member, let them know. You’ll get 20% off). Be sure to book a reservation. It was great way to spend New Years Eve. We will Be back

I wish I could say this flagship restaurant at the Sheraton was anything other than ordinary. Unfortunately it was pretty much like every other Benihana style teppanyaki restaurant with even higher prices. My group took the shuttle bus over from the Westin and walked around the desolate first level of the Sheraton for about ten minutes before coming across the first human we saw. We learned that many people do not know where the restaurant in the hotel is, including the ladies who work in the gift shops at the hotel — not a good sign! It would behoove this restaurant to give directions to people when they call to make their reservation or have the concierge relay the important directions/instructions to guests arriving for dinner in the dark! The initial confusion aside, once we were seated with 6 other people, everything’s was fine. The chef was a funny guy with good utensil throwing skills. He only dropped something once — and then went and got a clean one to cook with! The food was good, but again, nothing spectacular. The fried rice they are famous for was really buttery — tasty, but not the best in my opinion. I had the scallops — a good portion, and fresh! And the mushrooms/onions/veggie combo was yummy. Two of the members of my group had vouchers from a timeshare presentation they went to, so that’s how we ended up at this place to begin with. The ambiance of the place was dated and nothing fancy. Without the voucher I don’t think I would have chosen to come here in the first place to pay the $$$$ price tag.

This was a fun and interesting adventure and something we normally wouldn’t do in Hawaii, we went to a teppanyaki restaurant. Surprisingly, it was fun and tasty. We made a reservation at 7pm and got there a few minutes past. We sat down at a table set for 8 people and wound up with a couple from Germany and that was it, just the four of us. There was a long transition from taking our order to getting our food. Once the food was brought out to start cooking things moved along pretty quickly. We did the prix fixe started with the standard miso soup, but it was really too hot to enjoy. A couple of sips and we were done. Next up was the mushrooms, zucchini, onions and asparagus. All delicious!!! After that was the rice that was loaded with all the goodies including egg, onions and of course bacon. We then ordered the filet and lobster. It was a good size portion for both. The filet was oh so tender(mr) and the lobster was cooked to perfection. The dessert was a very very very sweet tropical sorbet. I tried a taste or too but it really wasn’t for me. It was a fun meal and we really enjoyed dining with the German couple. We will be back again for sure.

typically, every restaurant at a resort hotel is expensive. teppan-yaki dan is no exception, but to its credit you do get a lot of food and entertaining cooking. each hibachi meal comes with edamame, miso soup, vegetables, and steamed rice. the ginger garlic fried rice is an upgraded price, which was a little surprising to me. I liked having the little bowl of edamame to start, and the waiter came back quickly with our drinks. however, one thing that I did not necessarily like was that our beers and sake were kept in an ice bucket away from the table, so we were only able to refill when the waiter was around. they were also out of our first choice of sake. the food was pretty good and i thought the clams were a great addition to the miso soup. the large scallops and beef were pretty good, and my husband seemed to enjoy the lobster and steak. like I said, it was plenty of food and we had leftovers to take for later.

Service is a 5 — food is a 3 so average rating of 4. We had Joshua as our Chef and he was fantastic — engaging all at the table while he prepared the food. If you are at the hotel, which we were, and don’t feel like driving out to find a local teppanyaki grill, which we didn’t, then make a reservation here and enjoy. Understand going in that you are paying resort prices and it is what it is.

Ridiculously overpriced mediocre food! Even though our chef was pleasant and entertaining, the quality of food was average at best. The grilled vegetables consisted of mainly bean sprouts and onions(cheapest veggies in the produce aisle) and the meats were very poorly seasoned. The vent above the grill didn’t work properly and all the heat was directed at the guests seated around the table. My husband and son literally had sweat dripping down their foreheads. We could not wait to get out of this restaurant !!!

We’re been seated for 30 min and still don’t have drinks! Update: food has lots of tasty butter and our chef was very fun. I’ve also had the whole vase of luke-warm sake now. Don’t get the rib eye you’ll be chewing on gristle all night.

We were staying at the hotel and couldn’t decide were to eat so we went downstairs and talked to the hostess. She looked wary as we didn’t have a reservation but se said she would check. They were able to take us in a few minutes. We got our own private table. This place is good for groups. The chef was great and very entertaining. The waiter could care less about us and we had to bother him to get our drinks refilled more then once. It is a lot of food. I got the combo chicken/filet. It was delicious. Way too much food between the soup. veggies and meat. There is not much of an atmosphere, just a few tables. If you are looking to eat outside eat at the other restaurant Black Rock.

Excellent fillet mignon, cooked perfectly. Lobster tail was tender and moist. Great service, too. Only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was because they charge resort prices, which are about 25% more than you’d pay for the same meal elsewhere. But very good overall; I highly recommend it. Jaymar is a great teppanyaki chef.

Not sure why there are all the bad reviews. I was really not excited about eating here — I can’t stand eating at touristy hotel restaurants for all the reasons you hate them. I expected hokey«entertainment,» silly table mates, and horrific food at a terrible price. Ok, so some of that was true, but the food was quite a bit better than I expected from the other reviews. The fried rice that is $ 9 was split 3 ways between our party and was easily worth the $ 3/piece upgrade. It’s not the buttery mess everyone else in the reviews seemed to be complaining about. Got the steak and shrimp and both were better than I expected(not fantastic or anything, but maybe the low expectations from the other reviews set the bar to a point where I would only be pleasantly surprised). Table mates weren’t what I’d have hand-picked, but what can you do — it’s a hotel restaurant in Maui. We got what we signed up for. Our«chef»(cook?) was funny without being a total jerk or hack. We talked football, weather, growing up in Hawaii, etc without it feeling forced. Dinner, tax, and tip came in under $ 200 for a family of three who didn’t hold back on ordering. If you’re staying at the Sheraton and don’t feel like leaving the grounds tonight, this will certainly suffice. For the people that want to compare this to a Benihana — really? You were hoping this was MORE like a ridiculous chain of mall parking lot food for suburban masses?

The best thing to do at this place is to just bend over and get ready for the absolute overpriced &*()))&^ you will receive! Go ahead make a reservation… Good luck! They lost ours! If you do make it in you will be treated to not much of a show by the cooks. While the staff is pleasant for this rather small place, prices were beyond absurd even for Maui. Fried rice add on $ 9. Steak over $ 50, chicken $ 39 and dont even look at the drink prices… decent food and fact it was cooked close to perfect kept me from putting this at avoid! I would spend this kind of money maybe if you had a view on this gorgeous island! This place does not have a good setting at all. We even had a $ 150 off coupon and the bill still was over $ 230 with the deduction and only two out of five drinking any alcoholic beverage. All five of us walked out and said never again… I hope they can make it a better upscale dining experience, They sure charge enough for it!

This is my second 1-star rating during my Unilocal tenure, and I would give it a zero if I could. Forgive me for not holding back: 1. Made a reservation. 2. Showed up for said reservation. 3. Told to wait. 4. And wait. 5. And wait. 6. Told we were no longer booked at this restaurant. We could eat at Black Rock, the other hotel restaurant. Explained we were(unfortunately) entertaining guests who wanted teppan yaki. Told we were in the wrong. We made the wrong reservation.(Really? How many teppan yaki restaurants at this hotel?) 7. Told we were never ‘guaranteed’ a spot this restaurant. 8. Others in waiting area were equally perturbed. 9. $ 60 per person. Really? Really?! For hot top stir fry? Shrimp or beef or chicken of no particular origin or grade…3 oz lobster; frozen of no certain origin. Shrimp — farm raised from… Indonesia or the upper middle Indo-franco-china peninsula. Great. 10. WEWILLNEVERBEBACK. NEVER.

Over all impressive, gotta love the smoking volcano trick. Our Chef was very low key and focused on the cooking more than the show. Four couples seated around the grill all had very favorable comments. The filet was cooked to perfection. Excellent score on all food prep, veggies were some of the best I have had in a long time. Pay careful attention at ordering, it’s easy to get«upgraded on the fried rice, $ 8 per bowl… and a bowl feeds about 35 to 40 people. It’s a pricey evening to be sure, but again, for the most part you are captive on the Island… when you factor in the price of the show, food and sitting with unknown guests… it’s a good value
