A pleasant ambience and fusion of cajun and mexican. They could use a few craft beer taps but overall the service and food are a must in the lake charles dining ecosphere

Restaurant was pretty packed during out first visit. My sister and I were pretty surprised to be seated with no wait. Started off with a very strong margarita. Was it the best I’ve ever had or authentic? No. However, it was 7.99 so alright for the price. I had the two piece fish. The food arrived quickly despite it being busy. The fish was pretty good, seasoned well and fried nicely. The fries and tartar sauce were also good. Little sister had some kind of salad that consisted of a whole cucumber cut up on a plate. but the jalapeño ranch was very good. Overall it was a good experience. Pretty loud with tight seating so probably not a good date spot, but it was perfect for the quick meal we were looking for.

Service was great and food was delicious. Boudin quesadilla was sooooo yummy !! Do not waste your money on frozen margaritas here unless you want a watered down tasteless beverage.

We are from out of town, but thanks to the Unilocal reviews we chose to go to dinner here. The food was very good and the portions were not greedy. Nice find! Would highly recommend it. We shared a nacho appetizer, (huge) my husband tried one of the boudin balls, (he really enjoyed it) I had the shrimp and grits (yum) and my husband had a fried shrimp dish. Our table neighbors said the quesadilla’s were a must try. Maybe next time!

Our first visit here did not disappoint. We had a little bit of a wait for a table, but it was a Saturday night and the place is not very large. It has a good atmosphere and décor. Once seated we ordered the chips and dip sampler, and I had a sangria margarita which were a tasty start. Their queso, spicy jalapeño ranch dip, and guacamole were pretty good. I enjoyed the margarita as well. Our table’s entrees included fish tacos, Blackened Tilapia Ponchartrain, grilled fish with shrimp and veggies, and a fried shrimp basket. Everyone enjoyed their food and thought it was all delicious. The seafood tasted fresh and the portions were generous. I especially enjoyed my Blackened Tilapia dish which was topped with grilled shrimp and a creamy mushroom Ponchartrain sauce. To top it off our server was attentive and efficient. We certainly will return to Tia Juanita’s! It’s a great addition to our downtown area!

We love this place! The service is great and the food tasty. It is a bit small and can get loud, but the atmosphere is fun. The gumbo is very good, and you should try the shrimp tacos.

Ok, posted a deserved bad review last week. I am delighted to say we tried again later in the week and had a very good experience! Went a 3^rd time and had another great experience.
Great food, great service, enjoyed the other customers. Highly recommend!

Awesome little downtown fish spot !!! Worth getting off I-​10 for. Easy on and off. Gumbo was Excellent. Fish tacos very good. Large and tasty. Fried Shrimp basket was hot and yummy. Beans with Fish taco were also memorable. Fast, Friendly service.

The waitress was prompt and nice. But we Waited for 10 minutes for my wife’s margarita. (On the rocks with salt) Came frozen sent back then came no salt. Finally got it
My chicken and sausage Gumbo was really good Disappointed in shrimp PoBoy.
Brother in law had seafood gumbo and very little seafood in it.
Just an ok place. But I won’t go back

Found this restaurant via Unilocal and chose it because of the great reviews. We were very impressed by the service and food. I had the bread bowl appetizer and shrimp Quesadillas. We will certainly be becoming back!

Extremely great stop for drinks and quick eats when traveling through the area.
As my friend and I were traveling through the area for a charity event, Unilocal led us to coming here.
I like the cool-​chic atmosphere of posters and colors. The music, vibe, and staff were really fun to talk with and socialize around.
We ordered the boudain quesadilla, mexican shrimp cocktail, and shrimp nachos. and ALL were spot on.
The shrimp cocktail was fresh and spicy with flavor. The fresh shrimp on the nachos were great as well.
Overall, we had a great time with good drinks and good food.

I would give 3.5 if I could. Our experience started off very bad but ended well.
We walked in and asked for a table for 3 but none were available so we went to the bar. They said it would be a 10 minute wait but it was more like 30. The place was completely full.
No problem, we’ll wait at the bar. The very tiny bar was completely full so we stood at the end. I tried to get the bartender’s attention but he never came to take our order for 10 minutes. Finally he came over and I ordered a Skinny Margarita. I had not seen their drink menu so I didn’t know this wasn’t an item. Even so I figured the bartender would know how to make it. I was wrong.
He asked me what a Skinny Margarita was, does that mean it doesn’t have tequila? So I offered to show him the recipe, which I’d pulled up on my phone. He said no, he knew how to make it.
Huh?
So he made it but put it in a very tiny glass. The other margaritas were in giant glasses. Whatever. Then I ordered a strawberry daiquiri for my mom. He said it would take awhile because he would have to blend it. By now it’s been 15 minutes and I had JUST gotten my margarita but our table didn’t look like it would be ready soon so whatever.
I tasted my margarita and it was awful. Pure lime juice.
15 minutes later our table is ready and my mom finally got her daiquiri, which was so thick that she had to eat it with a spoon. I went to give the bartender my credit card and he kind of laughed and said that it would be awhile before he could run it. WTF dude?
So I went to the table and just told our waitress that we had a tab at the bar. She said that she would take care of it and didn’t charge me for the tiny margarita after I described it to her. Cool.
We ordered food — mom and I got salads, my husband got quesadillas. All of the food was very good.
I ordered a regular margarita, expecting it to be out in 15 minutes, but it came out very quickly. Our waitress must have an in with the bartender. She was really good though. Midway through the meal the owner came by to see how things were going. I took a sip of my margarita… holy hell, I don’t know what drink I had received but it was not a margarita. I told the owner and she admitted that the color was a little off. She told me to send it back but I said it was fine, I’d drink it anyway. It wasn’t terrible it just wasn’t a margarita.
As we were finishing our meal the bartender came by with another margarita. I guess the owner had asked him to. It tasted exactly like the first one. They really need a new bartender or to send this one to battening school.

A great combination of Mexican with traditional Cajun seafood offerings. Good queso, awesome crispy hush puppies, and great fish and roast beef tacos. Owners are friendly and the service is good.

When fish and shrimp are caught they pray they will end there lives as tacos here. The corn tortillas are great, the jalapeño ranch sauce and cilantro slaw that accompanies the fish are shrimp are wonderfully done.
The prices are very reasonable for the portions. Atmosphere is great to just sit back and visit with friends or family. Will definitely be returning when in town.

I understand this place is THE place to eat at right now… This place is also getting RAVE reviews and I’m not really sure why?
It was — alright. Just okay.
The place was packed but got a seat rather quickly.
Our waiter took forever to get us drinks but he turned out to be a pretty good waiter (and he was very sexy).
I started out with the chips and salsa. It was good. Salsa is pretty damn spicy.
Then I ordered the shrimp nachos. It was okay? The waiter swore they were his favorite thing on the menu I was not impressed.
My best friend had the chicken and sausage gumbo and po-​boy combo… It was also mediocre as well. His gumbo was ice cold and the rice was nice and swollen… Like it had sat in the gumbo all day. Soggy rice. I didn’t care for the po-​boy personally. He said it was okay. It damn sure isn’t a Darrell’s po-​boy.
Overall? It was just okay. I’ll go back later on and see if my opinion will change as they get more «settled» in their new place. I’ll add it at the bottom if I do.
I can think of 100 other places you’d be better off going. If it’s too packed and you want great food — walk next door and go to Luna’s. It’s a lot better, I promise.

And I didn’t even have one; I had a couple glasses of wine. Good thing because I had to drive home. My dinner date/​husband was too *unsteady* to drive us back home although he gave copious directions and warnings about my driving. Got home and crashed on the couch – after.one.margarita!

I am obsessed with this place. The first week I tried it, I went 4 times in a row. I’ve tried all of the tacos, gumbo, boudin quesadillas, fish filet, and queso. Everything has been amazing. I LOVE the roast beef po-​boy too! The owners and their staff are super friendly and it has a great atmosphere. I love it! I am so glad they decided to come to Lake Charles!!!

Great service. Friendly, fun atmosphere. We enjoyed an assortment of entrees including fish tacos, shrimp tacos, shrimp quesadillas, and shrimp and grits. Everyone enjoyed their meal. We will return!
Second visit – Tonight we shared a fish and shrimp basket that was, once again, delicious!!!

As the sign says on the screen door at the entrance «attitude is everything– pick a good one». Well, this place follows their own advice!
I have to give this place five stars even though we didn’t actually eat here. My aunt and I were walking through downtown Lake Charles looking for the right atmosphere for a visit. There’s not a lot of choices. This place caught our attention because of the great sounds drifting out the door and the inviting sign :)
We let the host know that we were not sure if we were going to be eating but knew that would like to have a drink and he directed us to sit at the bar. We enjoyed drinks and chips with delicious salsa. I watched the room for a couple of hours while we hung out and observed a very happy crowd. Looks to me like Lake Charles has scored a great new place for fun and delicious cuisine.
