The wait staff is very attentive and courteous, and it’s almost always pretty empty in there. The sushi is tasty, but sometimes a little sloppily made(rolls will fall apart like they weren’t rolled tight enough). Great prices, great flavors.

Fresh sushi and the best I have had in Oregon. The atmosphere isn’t that great, but the food is great. The bar is small but fun to have dinner or lunch. Love the kruse way roll!

We have been so pleased with the great food and service these guys provide — really great miso soup, the teriyaki bento with tempura is awesome… even when I ordered the wrong dish we were delighted with what we got! Nice saki selection, beer limited but hey… its ice cold and compliments the cuisine perfectly. Not cheap, but when you’re dealing with raw fish, do you really want cheap? No, no, no. Good value for delicious food.

Great little place… Got in during lunch. They all greet you in Japanese, it was unique. The miso soup is a must!

I’ve become a regular. Sushi is fresh and Josh prepares the best spicy tuna hand roll I ever had. The kruse roll is also a good choice. The staff is very friendly, they greet you as you come in and as you leave.

Went in 6 minutes after opening hour so the server was efficient and very kind. I ordered yellow tail and another sushi roll. Both very good I just wished the rice didn’t fall apart so easily. But it was good enough for me. I’ll have to come back and order the better stuff on the menu.

Really slow service during lunch, granted, it was pretty packed & they were understaffed. If you’re looking for a quick lunch stop, probably not the best place to go. I got the bento combo(sashimi & tempura). Was not really impressed with the 3 slices of salmon &3 slices of tuna. I’ve gotten the tonkatsu before & that was pretty good. Not one of my top places to go for sushi, but it’s close to my work, so if I have 90mins to spare, I’d probably go again.

I really liked this place! The décor is all cute making the small space seem cozy. I’m really fond of the origami paper lamps. The service was great and the food better. I actually liked the gyoza and I usually never do. I had the Chicken Teriyaki bento and whatever I didn’t eat my roommates grabbed immeadiatly.

Very disappointing experience today after an initial good experience. Ordered Udon to go, and it was awful. Ended up throwing it out and getting food elsewhere. The lady who took our order was very scattered even though there were two other people there.

I was on a business trip to Portland and this restaurant was conveniently located next to my hotel. The staff was very friendly and after the first visit the people there knew my name. The food was delicious as the fish very fresh. I’ve had the beef, and chicken bento boxes and a few of the rolls. Everything was reasonably priced for the amount and quality of their dishes. I would definitely recommend this place.

If you like Sushi then you have to eat at Umi . The food is amazing. Always the freshest and always served beautifully. I know everyone has a favorite Sushi bar and this is mine but if you try Umi you will agree it is one of the very best.

I went here with friends for lunch the other day. Very tasty rolls and sashimi though their sashimi plate seems a touch high for what it did come with compared with other sushi places I go to — not a huge amount but noticeable. We tried a variety of the rolls and they were all pretty amazing. I think our only possible complaint was that the service was a touch slow and that was with not a lot of people in the restaurant so be patient when you eat here. For an area that has very few choices for sushi this is a very good one though.

I had a great dinner here! Nothing fancy but I would for sure recommend their sushi to others. I was in town on business and staying at a near by hotel & thought I would check it out. Shrimp shumai is a MUST! Delish! I also got the tuna tataki app and it was very fresh & light with lemon & ponzu & you get a ton! My only complaint is the spicy salmon wasn’t very spicy at all. The staff was very friendly & the sushi chef was nice & knows his stuff! I love sushi and I will be back next time I’m in Portland.

Hate to hate on a small mom and pop establishment, but hear me out… It’s small. It’s Lake Oswego and it’s one of the few sushi restaurants in this area where sushi doesn’t come out on a boat. I understand that. But it gets insanely busy and they sometimes just forget about you. It takes awhile for food to come, for water to get filled, or even your bill to get paid. The sushi is mediocre. It wasn’t terrible. It wasn’t great. It wasn’t cheap. The rolls were dry, the sushi was ok. The bento boxes were horrible. I’ve never had such terrible steak terriyaki.

Great Lunch Spot! They seat you quickly, get your food to you fast and you can be on your way! The fish is fresh and the waitstaff and chef’s are friendly. We had the Deluxe Sashimi, Spicy Tuna Roll and Edamame, all were very good.

Good, friendly, fast service. Sushi was not the best I have had and, as such, I felt the prices were a little high. It is close to home and work, though, so accessibility is a plus. Pretty impressive sake selection.

3.5STARS GREATNIGIRI I’ve been eating sushi since I was kid. I grew up in Torrance, California(a haven for Japanese cuisine), so when my parents were feenin’ for something raw, they had their go-to place in the neighborhood. The employees always knew us and predicted my father’s order. Umi Sushi seems to remind me of the Japanese restaurant I grew up eating at. Many of the diners there seemed to be regulars. The place seems a bit«Americanized», but they do have some of their traditional items on the menu. [décor] Seems like a clean mom-and-pop shop. Walls were decorated with Japanese artwork and fixtures. It’s not that fancy. Pretty casual. [devour] *NIGIRI(**4STARS**) –Uni(sea urchin) — $ 4.95 for two pieces –Smoked Salmon — market price –Unagi(eel) — $ 4.95 for two pieces(my personal fave) –Saba(mackerel) -$ 3.95 for two pieces All of nigiri pieces that we had ordered were like BUTTER. The pieces were sliced to an appropriate size(great knife skills!) The fish was definitely fresh and totally sushi-grade. Prices may be a bit steep for some people, but I think you’re paying for the quality of the fish you’re consuming. The sushi rice was decent, but I had better elsewhere.( ) *COMBINATION($ 12.25 — Dinner; **3STARS**) Pick 2 of the following: Chicken Teriyaki, Beef Teriyaki, Tempura, Sashimi or Sushi. I opted for CHICKENTERIYAKI and SASHIMI. This deal comes with a bowl of white rice and a side of potato salad(but it was more like mash potatoes). I’m not sure why there was mash on my dish. It made my order seem«Americanized» when I’m eating at a «Japanese» restaurant(just sayin’). My chicken was a cooked so-so. But I could tell the teriyaki sauce just came out of a bottle(I got the same stuff at home!) I had 6 pieces of sashimi(2 of the following: tuna, salmon and red snapper) The portion was appropriate and I was full, but perhaps I was full because I ate a couple pieces of nigiri prior to my meal.( ) FYI = –Family owned restaurant –Eye candy sushi chefs –About a mile away from the 5&217 freeway intersection –Near Stanfords and other independent restaurants –Shared parking lot in strip mall If I was in the area, I wouldn’t mind coming back here. But I wouldn’t trek all the way from Portland or wherever you are from to check this place out. It’s convenient for something decent in the Lake Oswego neighborhood. If I were to be back, I wouldn’t order any of the plate combos, bento boxes or rolls. I’d just do straight up sashimi or nigiri. Unilocal 2013100+ Reviews Challenge(going for 200!) — Review #132

The service here is always about as fast as OR-217 on a weekday afternoon, but it was especially terrible the last time I came here with my co-workers. We had a group of six, but the place is quite small, so we split ourselves up apart from each other in groups of 2 and 4. The group of 4 was served first and informed the waitress that they would like to split the check 4 ways. She made a very big deal about it, made claims that it would cause their [already slow] service to be slower, and generally had a terrible attitude about the whole thing. You would think this would be a common request seeing how they’re surrounded by office parks. I’m sorry, but while McMenamins is still the reigning World Cup Champion of Slow Service, even they can split a check 20 ways for a large group without berating the customers. This was a table of 4. When the check was brought out, it wasn’t split and the waitress begrudgingly got out the calculator right there at the table. One of my co-workers opted to pay for everyone just so they could get out there. The food is good, the price is average, and despite how convenient the location is for me, I won’t be coming here… especially since my other co-workers are boycotting the place and there are plenty of other and better alternatives around. Food: 4 Service: 0 Ambiance: 3 Value: 3 TL;DR: Decent food if you’re not in a hurry and don’t need to split checks.

Hit or miss is not a ringing endorsement of a sushi restaurant, but when they get it right it is wonderful. This restaurant is a favorite of some of my non-Yelp friends. I’ve tried to share their enthusiasm, but after three visits for lunch, they still haven’t put it all together. So it isn’t one of my top picks in the area. While I’m struggling between three and four stars, what tips the balance in their favor is their twice daily early bird special. This is not your discount sushi track restaurant, so I’m really happy to get a price break on part of their menu when I arrive early for lunch(11 — 11:45a) or dinner(5 — 5:45p), Monday — Friday. I’ve ordered about ten different rolls and by far my favorite is the spicy salmon roll. It never lets me down. The other items have been fine and in one case(shrimp tempura roll) it was a true disappointment. On my first visit, a friend and I ordered a lot of different items and the wait was excessive. My second visit was also on the slow side, but my visit today was very fast. Again, not a sushi track, so factor in some additional time since they make all their rolls to order. Certainly worth checking out and I’ll be back again whenever my sushi craving hits early.
