For the past few weeks I’ve been craving deep fried oysters. Last night I just knew I HAD to get them. Once I got off from work, I knew the chances to get them would be slim being that it was Sunday. Thank goodness for Unilocal.I called to see if they had it in stock. The girl who answered was kind and gave me a favorable answer that it comes as a combo 10 – 12 pieces with fries and coleslaw for $ 10. Mind you, I called two other establishments before this place. Carolina Kitchen has it only as an appetizer no fries for $ 10. And a local carry out was sold out. C’mon now smh. My hopes were running low so I’m glad I was able to get to this place. I asked if I can just do without the coleslaw and I was told that it can be done and I’ll receive extra fries. Not only did they have what I was looking for, but it was also filling. I called the order in and when I arrived 7 minutes later. It was already ready. They gave me condiments of cocktail sauce and ketchup. The customer service was great, the food was great. I will continue to go back until I am given a reason not to.

I made this my go-to crab place back in the summer. However, I stopped spending my money here once I noticed that they weren’t selling fresh steamed crabs. Its obvious that they re-heat leftover crabs and sell them to their customers. My aunt also stopped going to Seastar for the same reason. For future reference, ask them to show you the uncooked crabs before they steam them.

I’ll start by telling everyone that I’ve ONLY had the Alaskan crab legs from Seastar. I started going here back in the early 2000’s when I got my first bar tending gig across the street at what used to be Safari Steak House. All my old PG Co. go-go fans know what I’m talking about. Lol The crab legs have been consistently good, well seasoned, steamed to perfection(not overcooked and sticking to the shell), and always served with a wedge of lemon and a little plastic container of «butter» that gets thrown out by me lol. At one point, I was ordering once a week! But as time went on, I moved farther away from PG Co and found other hidden gems in the DMV. I searched high and low, but nowhere does crab legs like Seastar… And I’m back for now baby! So last night when I had a mean preggo craving for some Alaskan crab legs, I could only think of one local place that does them right. So I crossed my fingers and zipped up 450. The set up is still pretty much the same but with a lot less seafood in the display, a large bag of legs, only a few cans of oysters, a couple of lbs of fresh clams, and frozen shrimp We ended up waiting about 15 mins as I prayed they weren’t steaming my legs for that amount of time(I remember the guy behind the counter telling me «4 minute» back in the day). They still serve them with«butter» and a lemon wedge. We stopped by Chik-fil-a and grabbed a peach milkshake and headed home. And my God! The crab legs are exactly as I remember them! You crack into one and get an entire piece of meat. I was happy as a clam!(Ha, get it??). All and all the price is always right and it’s hardly ever crowded. I’ll be back soon.

I tried grilled platter with different fish each time: red snapper, rock fish and salmon. I liked Salmon the best. It comes with fried rice, fish, and greens. It is a very big portion. I usually use it for both lunch and dinner. I also tell them to make it spicy — fried rice is really tasty. It is about $ 9 to $ 10 depending on the fish. I usually go for the carry out. Also you can go with lunch specials for about $ 6 and they are also very good.

Above average fried fish, go for the catfish sandwich. Seastar also sells fresh seafood so go with what they have on hand. However, the crab cakes are utterly abysmal, avoid them like the plague. I got a 6″ crab cake sub and it must have weighed a pound and a half at least and not a bit of it was edible. If you’re in the area you probably know this, but don’t bother with crabcakes from anything other than Jerry’s Seafood over on Lanham-Severn Road.
