I have gotten to know more good people through Unilocal events, especially UYEs, that I’m very appreciative of people who put the events together! The UYE at the Dumpling King was no different. Breaking into two tables of 8, the 16 of us enjoyed each other’s company. I met some new folks and spent time with some friends for a few years. The people at Dumpling King were very accommodating to let us use the side room with this large number. Now we have to keep the momentum going and make tasting UYEs a regular thing. Thanks to Stefany V. for putting the UYE together!

I popped my UYE cherry at this event!!! Woooooooooo!!! Thanks to the super reviewer Stefany V., I was able to partake in a wonderful gathering of fellow food lovers! I had already tried their cumin lamb and soup dumplings at my first visit, but carpe diem’ed on this opportunity to mingle in a more intimate, smaller group setting as well as stuff my face with a variety of foods. I gotta say, UYE is the way to go, since I’ve missed out meeting fellow Unilocalers at the larger elite events. I have«friends» in my list whom I had never met, but have been following for quite some time. And what’s nice is that there’s more flexibility for a plus one, so your significant others can also attend! Some of the highlights for food were: Dimsum dumplings– LOVED the flavor of the inside. The skin was a bit poorly constructed, but it sure looked like a dumpling! Beef fried rice– gasp… didn’t think it’d be great but it was surprisingly delicious and full of flavor. And of course the cumin lamb. It’s packed with bold flavors, and the cumin definitely comes through. I shall pass on the crystal dumplings(kinda bland for my taste), crispy beef(which was overly salty with no other flavors), and the beef patty(which had a pungent oil smell that I couldn’t really handle, and it was rather bland). The juicy beef dumplings are a hit or miss. I’ve definitely had better at my fave Din Tai Fung spot in Cali, but this is still better than other places in Vegas. They don’t serve any pork here, hence their dumplings are all beef, as the owners are Muslim. But, me likes the beef so it’s alllll gooooooood! Looking forward to more UYE’s!!! :)

As the previous Unilocalers mentioned… we had a variety of tasty Chinese foods, that arrived fast to our tables, after ordering from a friendly server w/a bit of a language barrier, among a private dining room in the back of this interestingly decorated restaurant, consisting of well over a dozen Unilocalers +1s. Conversation was constant fun, engaging, friendly, and humorous! The glass lazy susan placed in the center of our circular tables were extremely helpful sharing a variety of tasty dishes among others. The owner named Mary(who spoke perfect English) came out and was very appreciative of us choosing her restaurant. She shared a bit about the foods that her husband prepared for us. She is the one responsible for the bright red lively chair décor that very few places could get away w/having patrons sit on. Personally, I liked her bright & cheery chairs :-) This UYE(Unofficial Unilocal Event) was truly enjoyable among a fun and friendly bunch of people, most of whom I’ve met before and some for the 1st time. I hope to participate in more UYEs in the near future. See 7 photos below… Unilocal300CHALLENGE2015: #295

You know the UYE is a success when you anticipate 10 and 16 show up! The turnout was such a wonderful surprise in a city known for people flaking out and pulling a no-show. Shout out to Renzo for taking the lead on getting us reseated in the large, private dining room and to Phillip for handling the ordering for our table. Once we got situated and ordered, conversation got flowing and the food started rolling out– surprisingly, the dumplings were not my favorite part of the meal, but rather the cumin lamb dish(bomb!) and the noodles! We had a great mix of dishes at our table, and an awesome mix of people in attendance– it was great to finally put a real face and personality to a few folks, and to catch up with friends. Dumpling King was fairly good at helping us, though there was a bit of a language barrier with one of our servers(but perfection from the other!) and a delay to get our checks– but we were having a good time, so I don’t think anyone really minded too much. Definitely looking forward to doing this again soon– follow up with Antonia for upcoming AYCE sushi plans!

I wouldn’t miss the opportunity to spend quality time & eat massive amounts of dumplings with my Unilocal fam! This event was a huge success! High five to Stefany V for having the guts to get the ball rolling on this wildly anticipated and long overdue Dumpling King UYE. Getting together a bunch of hard core food nerds may sound intimidating to some, but you guessed it, we all settled in and got comfy quickly! There were 16 of us and seating was tricky at first; after a few rounds of musical chairs, we figured out our own seating arrangements in the private dining room in the back of the restaurant. Our party was split into 2 large and round tables, pushed side-by-side. Our table decided to order a variety of items on the menu(mostly dictated by the ROTD King himself, Philip T) — no complaints here: D~~~ We tried a variety of delights and there were a bunch of standouts: Soup dumplings, crystal dumplings, lamb dumplings, Szechuan fish in hot chili oil, cumin lamb, shrimp low mein, blistered green beans, a sizzling beef dish and also braised shrimp. There wasn’t a dish I didn’t like, but I have to say my favorites were definitely the cumin lamb, soup dumplings & green beans! So awesome! We did pretty well with ordering and everyone was able to sample a great variety of dishes. We each spent about $ 20 including tip and left satisfied. Lots of laughs, great conversation, trying new food & bonding with a fun group of Unilocalers is definitely my idea of an evening well spent. I’m looking forward to the next one!
