I got to give it up for Michael K. for setting up his first UYE. It was an excellent choice. I can never resist a pizza UYE and it was followed by boba, MAN. I also got to give it up to Sandy K., no relation to Michael K. I don’t think, for taking the plunge and attending her first UYE. She didn’t even know anyone prior so that is very awesome. So a few Unilocalers met up at Windy City Beefs N Pizza to devour some wings and some pizzas, some Chicago style pizza my favorite then again I do love pizza of all styles. We were undecided on what was going to be ordered until we were told that they had a pizza and wings special for $ 20. Going with this special we got a loaded thin crust and loaded deep dish, enjoyed them wait for the separate review. We ate and got stuffed, we conversed about everything and everyone, we then waddled over to No. 1 Boba for some drinks to settle our stomachs. We relaxed at table outside and enjoyed the cooling night while conversing more about food, we are Unilocalers so what else do we talk about. I don’t usually write reviews for UYE unless there’s a good reason. Don’t be afraid to host a UYE and don’t be afraid to attend a UYE especially if it’s your first. It’s pretty easy to setup and attend so just get out there and try it.

First of all, I would like to give a big thanks to everyone that showed up. This was my first UYE and without you, this would not have been possible. Also, I would like to give a big thanks to Windy City who was accommodating in letting us move tables and chairs around for this event. After arriving 15 minutes early, I asked the employee working the front counter if we could create a table for Unilocalers. She said«Sure», and moved some tables together. While sitting down, I was hoping for at least 5 people to show up. I was ecstatic when we had a total party of 9! It was good seeing old friends, and meeting new ones, like Sandy K. When we were ready to order, the waitress told us that they were having a special that day, a large pizza and a basket of chicken wings for 20 bucks! Usually, the large pizza by itself would cost over $ 21! Game, Set, Match. We ordered a thin crust and a Chicago style deep dish, and ordered the wings medium spicy. Around 5 minutes later, our orders of chicken wings were brought to us. They were the smaller sized ones, but they were crispy on the outside and juicy in the middle. The medium spicy sauce wasn’t really that spicy, it could have passed for«mild». The Chicago style deep dish was excellent. Big, fluffy, and the crust was crispy on the sides and on the bottom. The sauce wasn’t too heavy, and the cheese was very good. A quick tip: Less ingredients are better because they tend to «water down» the crust, making it less crispy, especially towards the center. The Chicago thin crust was OK, but I prefer a NY version that you can find elsewhere. What was interesting was that there was carrots and cauliflower in the sauce. After wards, we went to No 1 Boba around the corner. I ordered the avocado and black sesame smoothie. It was OK as well, but nothing exceptional. I personally felt the flavors did not mesh well together. I thought that this UYE was fairly successful and I hope to do more in the future! (BTW, Tony T., you can buy me a monster cup sized snow ice at Frost Bites, and we’ll call it even ;-)

I took the plunge and came out to my first ever Unilocal event tonight at Windy City Beefs N Pizza followed by No. 1 Boba — thank you Michael K. for hosting and congrats on your first UYE! Opening the doors to Windy City made me feel like an undergrad at freshman orientation all over again. First, I had a small case of nerves(«What if they don’t like me?» «What do I do if I don’t fit in?»), and then came the inevitable and uncomfortable — but necessary — «Hi, there! I’m Sandy… um, I think we’re already friends on Unilocal.» You know, the same way everyone has already Facebook friended the entire university before setting foot on campus. Everyone I met was very friendly and welcoming, making me feel comfortable right off the bat. It helped too that the pizza was awesome while food coma-inducing($ 20 for an entire pizza + a basket of wings!). It was a collective effort to clean out the pizza even though we left one square behind before hiking a monolithic 10 feet next door to No. 1 Boba afterward. I think I might have been the only Unilocal newbie but by the end of the night it didn’t seem as apparent anymore. A good time was had — I’m glad I decided to make an appearance at this UYE! P. S. Thank you again Michael K. and please remember that unlike Tony T. I have already paid you $ 5.

This UYE was memorable because of two reasons. One was that this was Michael K’s first ever UYE event that he set up. The second was that this was Sandy K’s first ever UYE event she attended! When I showed up promptly at 6 pm, the first thing Mike said to me was«What are you doing here? You indicated sounds cool on the events page.» Sorry Mike, didn’t mean to disappoint you there. LOL. Anyways, the reason why I showed up with my wifey was because we had other plans that day but fell through at the last second. So we decided to «crash» Mike’s UYE. Nevertheless, Mike was cool with it. As for Sandy K, welcome to hopefully one of many cool Unilocal events! She walked in and approached the three of us and asked politely, «Is this the Unilocal event thingy?» Sandy, you’re so cute! Before the event was over, she seemed like she has already been to an event or two already. By the time Shirley B, Kevin L, LJ R, and Tony T showed up, we had ordered the two of the pizza and wings deal for 20 bucks. Since everybody wanted to try the Chicago style and thin crust, we got both as the loaded option which had just about everything in it including carrots and cauliflower. Yes, I said cauliflower. It was I would say a different twist to eating pizza both Chicago style and thin crust. The wings were pretty good as well. As much as me and the wifey wanted to hang out longer, we had to go to the mall before they closed so off to the boba place we went to try it out. That place in itself is another review to be done later. We got avocado and it was awesome! So thanks to Michael K for the setting up the event and letting us crash!

This is the first UYE organized and hosted by Michael K. And I realized after leaving this evening hangout that I still owe him $ 5. So this is a reminder to myself and Michael that I need to give him the money as late as next Friday, in that most popular spot out in Old Henderson. Now that business has been addressed, it is time to get down to this brief review. First, thanks for ordering the food and picking a perfect date for their fried chicken wings promo. The chicken wings were perfect! Crispy and golden brown and delicious on the outside, and still cooked but juicy on the inside. The deep dish pizza and thin crust one were both good, it is the first time I have had carrots on or in a pizza. Second, the best part of the evening was just hanging out, meeting old friends and new Unilocalers and talking about random stuff. As snow cream is the latest buzz in our Unilocal-dom, we dedicated a fair amount of time to this topic. We were so into it, we almost decided to drive to Old Henderson for some authentic fluffy snow ice. Anyway, after we have decided that we are not going to finish the very last slice of pizza, we walked all the way to our next spot(Number One Boba) for some refreshments. Hung out at the patio area some more, and talked about the food truck scene and where it kinda went, as it has mostly fizzled out imho. After that I decided to call it a night. But the adventurous and those that does not have to go to work tomorrow will likely hit up Yonaka and meet up with the other Unilocal cell that spent their time at the park earlier in the day. This concludes this Unilocal operative’s debriefing of this event. BTW, I thought it was funny(since it was a false alarm) that LAPD were«perplexed» by life size statue of Modern Warfare 2’s «Ghost» at an independent game studio Robotoki(even though the news report stated that«Ghost» was from Call of Duty).
