I would actually like to comment on a previous review by Stephen, and encourage him to go back into Aimee’s and get to know the wonderful people there who have LONG been supporters of the LGBT community. Aimee’s coffeehouse, Gary and Aileen Strong have LONG been supporters of the LGBT community, have championed the freedom to marry act, Equality, No H8 and even the Anti-Phelps despite the objections of family and those close-minded folk in opposition of it. They have LGBT family, employees, friends and community they love and support and have for years. I live in Seattle now and I was a three, or four day a week customer there, and Strong Antiques, so I know them very well. Despite what you think you heard,(which in discussion with the owner by phone was made flippantly to mock the«Sanctity of Marriage» argument), Aimee’s Coffeehouse, the owners and employees are not close-minded, anti-marriage folk and I hope you get to visit them again and get to know the people they are. Eileen and Gary catered my commitment ceremony, which made the news in 2005 as it was a first year the marriage debate began making news. Google it. Timothy Knapp and Brandon Dupont, Lawrence, KS. Aimee’s coffeehouse is a place of discussion, debate and support for the LGBT community. To anyone considering, go there, support them, and show them the love they show our LGBT community. Ps Get the Breakfast Burrito, Biscuits and Gravy and the French Toast! Now I’m super-hungry!

This was a very good breakfast. I had biscuits and gravy, hashbrowns, and bacon. The B&G is very flavorful with the sausage in it. Their chai tea is also very good. The employees are very nice and friendly.

I went in on an early Sunday afternoon. The place wasn’t busy but there were several customers there besides myself. I ordered the hash browns covered in sausage gravy and an order of bacon. I also got a cup of coffee. Pros: the potatoes were nice and crispy. the sausage gravy was actually very good– the best part of the meal. I can imagine it would be very delicious on biscuits as well. it was thick, flavorful, plenty of pepper. the sausage was good and the gravy wasn’t loaded with sausage, there was just enough. the bacon wasn’t crisp enough for me but the flavor was excellent so I was able to forget about the texture. Cons: lack of customer service. the 3 women working that day were chatterboxes, to say the least. the place is not a large one so their voices resonated quite loudly. they were chatting with one another and what looked like a couple of «regulars», customers they knew pretty well. when I walked in the door they didn’t acknowledge me. no «hi, welcome to Aimee’s» or anything of the sort. nothing. the place is kind of weird because you seat yourself and there are menus at each table, but your order is not taken by a server. you have to go up to the counter and order. I just found that to be slightly odd. the employees seemed to be so ensconced in their personal conversations(their strange affection for«morbidly obese pets», their grandmother’s random Christmas gifts, how the only good thing about the state of Florida is when you are leaving it, etc etc etc) that they notice very little else going on around them. I felt honored to get a «goodbye, have a nice day» as I was leaving. although I was the one to speak first. long story short, I am BIG on customer service because I have worked in that field for so long myself. I don’t expect to be catered to hand and foot everywhere I go but I do expect to feel acknowledged and atleast somewhat appreciated. the staff at Aimee’s dropped the ball on that. the food was okay(like I said, the gravy was actually pretty damn great) but nothing so wonderful i’d be inclined to return. and the coffee was just… coffee. I had the«John Brown Blend». meh. Kwik Shoppe is more impressive.

A little pricy and they forgot about my order for 20 minutes, but quality food, good service(when there is some), delicious coffee(not too sweet but not too bitter) and nice environment. I’ll be back.

The food is really good and I would love the place if it wasn’t for the fact that there is ALWAYS one of the owners/mangers taking up seats, talking super loud, letting their kids wrestle on the floor, etc. You know, basically ruining the ambiance of this nice little café. No one wants to hear about how much you spent to fix your dishwasher. Let us eat in peace.

Best B & G in Lawrence. Eggs were perfectly cooked and choice of four coffees. Service can be a bit slow at times but worth the wait.

I’ve tried most coffee shops in Lawrence and I have to say this one you shouldn’t skip over! Its pretty good and has decent specials. It is kind of small though so noise can build up. Also the antique store next store shouldn’t be snubbed either!

Dorm common area meets Starbucks. Lots of tables and outlets and toys for the kids. Ambiance almost works. Friendly students man the barricades. Generally, not a huge fan of the food or particularly of the coffee. Or the Cheers-like regulars who congregate at the bar. Like I said, it’s half dorm room. Or maybe I’m just having a bad morning and I’m taking it out on them.

I have finally tried this place, and I am sad I have not tried it sooner! The house coffees are good, and the breakfast items we tried were great! The French toast is really good, they are soaked in custard and covered with a caramel sauce, and absolutely delicious. The corned beef hash was extremely tasty! We will definitely be adding this café to our regular rotation, and I am very excited to try more things on the menu! Open till 8 pm, breakfast served all day.

Funky, run down a little, odd mismatched chairs and couches, shy on the college headphones-on-studying-but-not-buying-anything crowd(a good thing). Blends in perfectly with the antique store next door owned by the same folks. You get the idea. Right place to get a real gut buster of a manly breakfast thought if that’s what you’re after. Their biscuits and gravy are a family favorite. Interesting joint, you definitely don’t go there for the atmosphere and the corporate and business crowd doesn’t stop to get their signature cup of fat with a funny name disguised as java. The coffee is good, not great. If you’re looking for something different, this might be the place. If I’m really looking to get away and suck some wireless it’s a great venue. Otherwise, plenty of good coffee/espresso choices within a few blocks.

I used to love this place, at breakfast there every chance I could get. One day, while I was enjoying my breakfast burrito, I felt a tickle on my leg and looked down only to discover a 3-inch cockroach. I have not been back since.

Such a unique place. Food is comforting, just like the atmosphere. drinks are great, as well. The chatty employee, owners, and frequent customers are amusing. I usually end up listening to their antics and not getting much work done, otherwise I’d write there more often!

I did a good chunk of my grad school homework from the corner table at Aimee’s, and really enjoyed this place. The staff were always friendly, drinks always came quickly(even when they were busy), and prices were always reasonable. Definitely my go to coffee place on Mass. Never had the food, though, so I cannot comment on that.

Aimee’s is the type of place you go for the atmosphere, not the food or coffee. It’s a bit weird and a little grungy on the inside, but still maintains that home-y feel — it’s more like going over to a friend’s place than going out. The owners really contribute to this relaxed atmosphere, they’re chatty and super friendly — totally made up for mediocre biscuits and gravy!

Aimee’s is proof you don’t need a big kitchen to produce big flavor. My personal favorite is their French toast. Homemade bread soaked in a sweet custard, baked, then pan seared with a caramel butter. It just doesn’t get any better than this. The breakfast sandwiches are tasty and well proportioned as well. I knocked off one star because they forgot the side of fruit with my breakfast. When I asked the server she replied«it doesn’t come with fruit but I can get you some if you like.» Servers, know your menu. The other negative was that my wife was served ice cold eggs with her corned beef hash. The hash was tasty but perhaps a little too salty. I’ve been told the Friday lunch special is one of their most popular, grilled cheese and tomato soup. I can’t wait to try this.
