Just had a horrible experience with the GM. Called in a to go order, picked it up, got home, and was missing an item I had ordered. I called down to tell them my order wasn’t quite right and she explained that the item was sitting right in front of her, she then told me that my options were to either drive back down and pick it up or I could have a «free» one the next time I came in. Well it’s not free I had already paid for it. Other than that there was nothing she could do she told me. I then decided I would drive back down and pick up the item because I felt cheated by the whole thing. When I arrived I walked up to the bar and waited about 5 minutes before anyone approached me. When the GM walked up she asked if I wanted the food or a refund. I told her I ordered the item because I wanted it, she handed me the bag and gave a one word completely insincere apology, «sorry», she said. Then explained she was going to go grab the employee that put my order together so she could apologize as well. The entire ordeal took up too much of my time as it was so I grabbed my food and told her I wasn’t going to wait around for another, «apology» and left. I will never spend another dollar in the establishment because when the GM doesn’t care wether or not the customers are happy who does? Wish I could get in touch with the owner to let them know they have someone running their restaurant with a blatant disregard for the customers satisfaction. Great food.

Sorry, but no sushi in the whole Lawrence downtown is worth the money. Maybe I am pampered coming from the East and West Coasts, but the rice is always terribly done. If you do not know a lot about sushi and have no standards against which to measure quality, then, fine, go here. If you are a foodie, hell no. And most are owned by Koreans, not Japanese owners, which simply means it is never going to be like the real thing.

Not terribly impressed at all. Rice was undercooked. Server was inattentive. Albacore was an odd colour. Plus, they advertise a happy hour all day which they do not have. I do not plan to return. The gyoza were perfectly cooked though! They don’t have enough basic rolls. Way too much fancypants crunchy rolls and few with real fish

We have been in this place many times, the food is decent and within the area of Lawrence KS still ranks as one of the best. The problem has been most of the cases with the service. The manager(«Tiara?») has been openly racist with us and other customers, almost to the point of refusing service, trying to sit you on the worst corners or making irrational statements — many times the own servers –who have seen us many times — come to apologize for her attitude multiple times. Other«ethnic» customers who happen to be a friend of mine, have been there and had the same experience. It is time for the owners to make a change!

My favorite sushi joint in Lawrence. Their Hot Mama roll is spectacular, and I usually just order two of those and call it a meal. Good location and decent wait staff.

Disclaimer: This review is a bit biased. Since I left FL5 years ago, I’ve been searching for my favorite dish, Katsudon. Until now, not one single Japanese restaurant has had it on the menu. Yokohama does. It also happens to be quite good. My GF and I stopped in here after a day in Lawrence and a trip over to Stull Cemetery(Gate to hell, anyone?). The décor is swanky, with some cool traditional seating areas and a long bar. Our server was friendly, and made sure glasses were filled promptly throughout the meal. The Katsudon was everything I had hoped for. Delicious fried pork cutlet with egg and onion over a bed of rice. Accompanied by a steaming hot bowl of miso soup, I don’t think I could have been happier. Girlfriend said the flavor of the sushi was good, but the spicy tuna was QUITE spicy(and she’s no wimp). Their beer selection also has another favorite that I don’t see elsewhere; Asahi ‘Super dry’. By far one of my favorite light lagers. Overall, I would come here every day just for the katsudon. Thank you guys for making me feel at home.

Yokohama is a very average sushi place that has a few vegetarian options but none of them taste all that thrilling. It’s right in the middle of the road of sushi that you can find in Kansas, from the grocery store to something high end in Kansas City, which I guess is half in Missouri and might not count. Wow, does that mean Yokohama is a leading sushi restaurant in all of Kansas? I was there for a friend’s birthday dinner and ordered two things: the veggie bibimbop and the vegetable roll combination. The vegetable roll combination comes with a vegetable roll, an avocado roll, and a cucumber roll. The cucumber roll is quite plain, and the avocado roll is a bit too rich. Both mixed with some soy sauce and wasabi make for tasty bites, though, which is a real tribute to soy sauce and wasabi. Shoutout to soy sauce and shoutout to wasabi. The vegetable roll was much more complex — multiple vegetables and a green wrap made for better bites. The veggie bibimbop was decent: the egg was the highlight. The mushrooms were a bit rubbery, but the rest of the vegetables had an excellent crunch. Yes, I ordered a Korean dish: since becoming vegetarian, my Korean intake has dropped off dramatically. Shoutout to all the Korean vegetarian food trucks out there. Sushi is hard for vegetarians, in that the vegetarian consistently feels like they are missing out on a part of the experience. That wasn’t the case at Yokohama, which felt nice. Yokohama actually offers some tables that let you sit on the floor if you’re into that kind of dining experience. We did it and it was quite fun!

Ordered the vegetable tempura roll and vegetable teriyaki roll. The only tempera roll was a bit bland, but still good. The teriyaki roll was probably unhealthy with the amount of fried items. Plate came with wasabi and pickled ginger. I wish I had gotten the avocado roll instead of the tempura. It was too much tofu.
