Cool place, great coffee and food. We loved the cold brew, very tasty. Prices are great as well.

Great coffee, food, and atmosphere. Baked goods are excellent, too. A good place to people watch in the warmer months since lots of people are coming and going into and out of this place.

We stopped here on our way out of town on the last day we were in Leadville. We got all the way home(2 hour drive) and realized a wallet was left behind. The staff was super helpful and the owner sent us the wallet in the mail — it arrived the next day! Everything was still in the wallet. To whoever turned it in and to the staff, we are grateful. Aside from that experience, we loved City On A Hill overall! The character inside is perfect. It is a very charming café. We both loved the drinks we got and the bakery items were delicious! We will definitely be back next time visiting Leadville!

Friendly staff, I only stopped for a coffee. I had the dark roast, it was okay. Really cool shop though they have amazing carvings of the peaks around Colorado.
Great quick breakfast spot or daytime café. Very nice and quick service. Definitely my go to café in Leadville.

The best big latte I’ve ever had the first time I went; not quite as good the second time a few days later, but still great. Four shots, nice flavor to the milk, great foam. We pass through Leadville from time to time, and this place is always worth the stop. Nice vibe, nice place to gather your wits or wait out a storm.

Nice atmosphere when you arrive, however it goes down hill from there. If your not a local you have just become wallpaper. Counter people prefer to watch their phone instead of address the customer. If you prefer regular coffee they hand you a cup and expect you to fill your own and don’t have the decency to tell you where the coffee dispenser is. Once you find the coffee it is Luke warm and creamers empty. Very poor interaction with people. I hear there is a new coffee place in town. Thank God I don’t have to depend on City on The Hill for my java fix!

An oasis for us in the middle of a long afternoon drive. We enjoyed the coffee, pastries, clean bathrooms, friendly environment, and interesting topographic artwork. Approximately 100X better than Starbucks!

Excellent. This is a must for anyone who visits Leadville. Try the cinnamon rolls or the almond croissants if you can. The quiches are a good breakfast for going out and skiing. Perfect blend of protein and carbs. The coffee brews are good. There is no Starbucks in Leadville, but, you can find an equivalent if not BETTER drink here. I dig the iced coffees, white mochas, and the lattes in general. It is good to spend some time here if you can, sit with the newspaper and look at the art. It is just fine for a rush coffee, but this place is a great spot to study, read, or meet friends.

Ordered two drip coffees and three pastries. The barista interrupted dealing with this immensely complex order twice to help other people, dealng with their complete orders before getting back to me; she also stopped dealing with the complexities of pastry-bagging for shorter periods of time twice to answer questions. All this meant that bagging my pastries, handing me two empty cups, and ringing me up took almost fifteen minutes. Then she looked all miffed when I wrote a zero on the tip line on the credit card slip. I don’t know what the fuck she was expecting. If you’re from out of town, expect to be dropped like a hot potato any time a local wants anything at all, even on the simplest orders. Coffee was mediocre. Pastries were pretty good.

We stopped into City on a Hill on our way through town, which coincided with breakfast time. We were feverishly googling in order to find a place for breakfast and this really seemed like the only place. We were hoping for a bit more of a complete breakfast menu, but this fit the bill for a quick inexpensive breakfast. The service was fine — happy people working and a great space for dining. There were breakfast burritos, quiche, and biscuits. We had the quiche which was delicious, and a bacon/cheese biscuit which was also fine.

Cute find in the middle of Leadville. My love wanted coffee for the ride back home to Denver, so this was a good choice. It’s got that city café feel. A little bit of civilization in the middle of a small mountain town. Coffee was pretty good, better than«sbux» I would say. We also grabbed a couple of breakfast burritos to nosh on before heading out on the road. The chorizo one is probably the most popular, because they ran out before 10am on a Saturday. It was decent, but the Mexican place down the street probably does it better. I’d return if I was in the area again.

Decent coffee and pastries, lovely ambiance. Went up to Leadville with the in-laws for the Labor Day weekend and stopped in on 2 separate occasions. I had a lemon bar that was good but not great(overly gooey inside and overly crusty outside without the tart/sweet combo I so crave in a lemon bar) and a few sips of hubby’s chai(tasted a little«from the box). Did love the snappy green exterior, the cool wood carvings on the wall of 14ers, the mismatched furniture and the ambient lighting. Also thought the service was pretty good.

We popped in here for an iced tea and as it turned out, locally made cards. The feel is super cool and welcoming. If we lived in Leadville, this would be our spot. The pastries looked fresh and delicious. The iced herbal tea was fantastic! I got just a 16 ounce but could have easily done a big gulp size if that had been offered. And we have some pretty locally photographed/produced cards now to give to friends and family.

Meh. Quiche was ok, breakfast burritos were great. Chicken salad wrap was kind of small, but tasty. I wanted to try their desserts but the place was so packed I didn’t want to wait in line again. Staff was not very friendly, but not rude either. Got the impression they didn’t care if we were there or not. They seemed extra friendly to the locals, calling them by name and delivering their orders to the customer while our orders were left on the counter with a shout of what it was.

Coffee is just okay, but they have friendly staff and tasty treats! Try their panini and their almond banana bread.

Stopped here on the way from Aspen to Vail. They provide their own roasted coffee, brekkie dishes and some kind of home made sweet. Good coffee and latte. The food is also good! Friendly stuff and cozy. Very busy place but never feel uncomfortable.
