We stopped by yesterday around lunch for a tasting. Our family are long time customers of Kestrel. While in Leavenworth, we thought we would stop by to check out the latest wines. The wine host was terrible! We felt judged and disregarded from the second we walked in. She was with a small group and almost seemed annoyed we came in. We decided to go with the more expensive $ 10 tasting as we prefer to avoid the sweeter wines. She told us what the wine was, poured and walked away. It was rushed. They were the worst pours I’ve ever had. Two seemed like they may have been metered but she made sure to only give us a sip. Not enough to really determine a taste for the wine. For $ 10, we didn’t even have close to a half glass between the 4 wines we tried. She rushed us through them and we were in and out in 10 minutes tops! We felt like she wrote us off as someone who wouldn’t buy so was going to ignore us. We decided to buy a bottle of the 2012 Cab as we have bought cases of the 2010 Cab in the past and it was a favorite. We weren’t willing to pay $ 50 for a bottle of wine we had a small sip of as we weren’t sure we liked it enough and told her that. She just walked away. When we went to pay she says, «I have to charge you the tasting fee because you bought a bottle from another list». Lame. No where did it say this and besides, that is bad practice. We regretted buying even the one bottle. My parents are members of Kestrels wine club and regularly visit the winery and purchase cases, as we have in the past. We have brought Kestrel a lot of business and were HIGHLY disappointed to be treated in such a rude way and rushed out of their tasting room. Kestrel has lost valuable customers at the hands of the woman representing their business in Leavenworth.
