I’ve been a faithful shopper of Arden B. since college. While the merchandise can be hit-or-miss(e.g., the clothes range from attractively feminine business casual or dressy-casual to just downright skanky; they got rid of their amazing longer-length camisoles that I loved), their very reasonable prices, durable quality and pretty jewelry selection has kept me coming back for years(think of a more affordable BeBe). I only shopped at Arden B’s Lexington location during undergrad, chosing it over the(now obsolete) BeBe there — this is because I found the sales girls at Arden were always much friendlier and less snooty. On my off days when I get a chance to shop, I don’t want to wear heels, lug around a Louis Vuitton and have my nose in the air — instead, I’ll likely be wearing jeans/t-shirt and lugging around my 9-year-old daughter:). However, I don’t want to be looked down on, ignored, or have disparaging looks cast sideways at me. While vising Lexington a couple of weeks ago, my daughter and I wandered into Arden and had this exact experience. The greeter at the front door literally looked at us when we first entered, and turned away without a greeting. I had to literally chase another sales girl down to ask her a question(and no, the store wasn’t busy). Once we were ready to check out, the three sales girls were chatting and giggling with one another about the outfits in the store, until one of the girls(presumably the manager) instructed(seriously?) someone to check us out. I’m assuming the age of the girls accounted for their bad service — they were all clearly college-age. But, youth shouldn’t excuse away that rude of service. Once you’re old enough to get behind the wheel and move out from under your parents’ roof, then hopefully you have enough common sense to not treat a consumer like a nuisance at your paying job. The bad service was so striking, because just a few weeks before, I had shopped at the Arden location at Kenwood Mall(Cincinnati), and the sales girl there was a sweetheart. She took a genuine interest in helping me select outfits, chatted with me while checking me out, and urged me to come back and see her again for more summer outfits — and, she was also very young. Night & Day difference! In conclusion, avoid Lexington’s Arden if you’re looking for a positive shopping experience and you don’t want to leave your child with a babysitter.
