Talk about some of the most bland, boring, and pedestrian food. Nothing about City BBQ says BBQ at all. Sides are obviously straight out if the Sysco can, with the exception of the corn pudding, there is nothing worth stopping here for. I really don’t get all the rave reviews about this place. There are a lot more choices in Lexington that offer way better BBQ than this place.

Amazing food! I love the free pickles they were so good. I had the BBQ chicken quarter and it wasn’t dry at all, it had a lot of flavor and the BBQ sauced just added to it. I will definitely be going back because it was so GOOD! The rest of the table had the pulled pork and said it was delicious as well.

Service was a downer. They walked by almost every table in the house and asked if everything was ok except mine. I guess it’s because I was the only one there dining by myself. Not very nice. I’m an Elite, the rest are amateurs lol! The food is average but it was close to my house. I picked up some catering menus because I am allowed an extremely large budget to cater food for my clients. Dropped them off when I left. There went at least $ 500 a month you won’t be getting from me. The cashier Megan was very nice, go to Lyles or Red State instead. Do not go here solo, they checked on everyone twice but me the solo chick. Pathetic.

Wow I had the brisket and it was fabulous. The meat was so tender and had literally no fat. I had the baked beans and greens beans. Both sides were good. Don’t miss this place.

Really good pulled pork. Sides were good but we’re done way before pork and they sat out getting cold while we waited for pork. Loved the Brush Fire sauce

Today’s meal was my third at City Barbecue. I ordered the Family meal–(one meat) pulled pork,(two sides) green beans and macaroni & cheese, to go. The restaurant was packed at 1:00 pm, but I was in and out within 3 – 4 minutes. The meal comes with 4 huge pieces of cornbread. My two-year-old spit it out, and my mother mistook it for cake. So, regrettably, I’m working on the last half of 3.5 pieces. Of course, I found it sweet, moist and delicious, but it’s better to share if you-like me-are wanting to don a bikini this summer. The family meal is portioned for four people and it is true to it’s claim. My son, mother, and myself ate as much as we wanted and there is still plenty leftover. ** I recommend asking for extra barbecue sauce. The pulled pork comes without sauce; you have the option of regular, sweet, or spicy barbecue sauce on the side. I didn’t realize I would need more, now I have a half pound of pulled pork in the refrigerator, but no sauce.** Last week, I bought the same meal for a friend, who was just home with her third baby. Her family enjoyed the meal; I didn’t have to cook; and it cost less than $ 30. In this case I ordered online and found it much easier because I had all the options in front of me. So if you’re ordering to-go or for someone else I highly recommend using the online order form or mobile app.

I had the pleasure of going here with my dad last weekend. The prior reviews are correct in saying that the City Sampler is enough for two. We made the mistake of ordering two and the portions and sides were too much. We took a LOT home. The smokes sausage was fantastic. The brisket was, as well. My favorite side was the coleslaw, by far, but the greens were also good. The service was fantastic and the manager was very approachable. Great place.

We tend to venture out to City BBQ about once or twice a month. It’s quick, easy and tasty. My favorites of the smoked meats here are the brisket and sausage. I’ve had better pork, but it’s not bad. The husband and I just split the City Sampler which is pulled pork, brisket, sliced turkey, sausage, Texas toast and two sides. The husband likes the fries and I love the corn pudding.(This really says something since I do not care for corn nor corn bread – but together they make magic). As for sauces, the mustard sauce is good and we add swine wine to everything. They use to have a reward card, but now it is an app you have to download. The app only allows you to use one reward every 3 hours so either your $ 5 off or a free drink. *sigh* This place is still pretty good and seems to do well with catering. I might have to check that out for my next family get together.

One of the most delicious BBQs I ever had. I ordered the beef brisket. Their sauces are awesome and their potato salad is the best I ever had!

Everything tastes Amazing! I love the ribs we get them every week but every once in a while they taste a little undercook but not often! The mashed potatoes and gravy is really good and also the cheese fries. Definitely recommend.

Great bbq. Had the pulled chicken with greens and baked beans as my sides. All great. Loved the warm bbq sauce. I normally put vinegar on my greens but they didn’t need any. I ate ½ as is and then put the swine wine vinegar sauce on it. The swine wine was spicy and tasty. Great place for bbq.

This place never disappoints! It is a little pricey for what you get, but the food is delicious. There are a good amount of sides to choose from and the in house barbecue sauces are all great as well!

My department at work brought in City Barbeque for lunch recently. I got to try 3 meats — pulled pork, pulled chicken, and smoked sausage. I really liked the pork, but didn’t care for the other two. Of the sides that I ate(cole slaw, baked beans, corn pudding), only the corn pudding really stood out. It was excellent. The best part of the meal though was definitely the peach cobbler I had for dessert — delicious!

Oh Lord, we got our bbq fix. First time here. Love that you order and they get it all ready for you so there is no waiting. Self-serve with a smile. Everything we ordered was tasty. I just love that they know how to brew iced tea here. Sweet or Regular and you can make your own Arnold Palmer with no drama!

The brisket, green beans and potato salad are off the hook here! Being a Texas girl, I know good BBQ, and this place has some good stuff! The sweet sauce is the best, in my opinion. The mustard sauce tastes like alcohol, maybe it was past its prime(?). The brush fire is good too, not extremely hot. Definitely will be back for more of this!

Soooo good. If I was on death row, I’d want my last meal to be from City BBQ! The meats are all very tender and juicy. I especially like the turkey and the brisket. I had them cater my office Thanksgiving meal and it was fantastic!

City Barbeque is absolutely one of the best choices we made for our wedding reception. Kim Minton is so wonderful to work with and her staffs were one of the best Team I’ve ever seen. We got married at Buffalo Trace Distillery on June 26, 2015. We met with Tammy(the Assistant Coordinator) four months before the wedding at the Lexington City BBQ location. She was very helpful and friendly; the tasting was generous and delicious. Kim Minton, the coordinator, is very experience and professional. She’s very helpful and flexible with our menu choices; she even went out of her way to locate other services like bartenders and cake cutting for us. She’s always responsive to phone calls, texts and emails, making it such a joy for us to plan out our reception. Kim and her husband Glenn partnered up to serve in our wedding and they met with us on site to go over the timeline beforehand(even though they prob’ve been in Buffalo Trace 100+ times.) On the wedding date, they set up, served appetizer, served our reception, cut & served wedding cake, cleaned up and did everything you could possibly ask for from a catering company. I did not have to worry a bit! You might think it’s typical for any catering services, but it’s City BBQ, so we paid 1⁄3 of what a «typical catering company» would charge for the food & service! Throughout the night, repeatedly, we heard our guests commented on how wonderful the food was! City BBQ is delicious, economical, and they offer one of a kind great service. I can’t thank them enough for being a big part of my wedding day.

I’m accustomed to either Texas BBQ, NCBBQ or Kansas City BBQ; but wanted to try this place due to good reviews. It was pretty good; service was quick; staff were friendly. The food: 5 Star award– brisket(tender and tasty) Really good — baked beans, hush puppies, beverages & French fries Ok but not as outstanding — pulled pork, sauces(vinegar sauce needed more pepper), corn pudding & cole slaw We will return for brisket and to try ribs & chicken. $ 74 for six of us is not unreasonable price wise for the food we got.

I really wanted to love this City BBQ. You know an experience is never good when it starts out like that. Just to keep it honest, it was merely a two and a half experience for me. This location was the first of the two Lexington City locations. City isn’t local Lexington BBQ joint, but it’s not exactly a franchise either. It’s on the opposite side of town from my house, so I’d yet to try it, even though it’s been open for awhile now. It’s directly located on Richmond Rd, but it isn’t in a convenient spot. If you’re coming from Richmond, you can’t cross over Richmond Rd to get to it, you have to go down to the light and make a u-turn. I wouldn’t suggest tackling it during lunch hour or if you’re in a time crunch. Anyways, that’s not part of my rating opinion… just a random observation. I ordered the smoked turkey breast, which came as a few slices, not the portion near the size of what comes with the salad that I’d had at the other location. Oh well, not a big deal. I was surprised at the small portion of it and that it was on a bun. So I nicely asked the lady if there was a non sandwich option that comes with more meat. Her response was«I can take the bun off». I was a bit stunned at her response, but maybe she took offense to my obvious complaint that the meal could use more meat. I mean literally 3 small slices of turkey. It came with 2 sides and I chose fries and potato salad. The fries had a weird flavor to them, almost as if they were burnt. The extra half star was for the potato salad, which was excellent. The meal and the fountain soda were around $ 10. Would I go back? I’m not sure after the first impression wasn’t too good. If I ever do go back, I’ll try a meat platter or a salad.

Why 3 stars? Because I enjoyed it there was a degree or two of weirdness. — — — I eat BBQ like it’s my profession, and I’m a renowned Doctor of the field. I had been looking forward to a trip to City for quite some time, as I just assumed Kentucky would be a hot bed for BBQ. Southern accents are normally synonymous with good Q. And my hypothesis was correct — I did enjoy it. But I have to issues: For every BBQ place I have ever been, there’s an option for a 2-meat platter. For those that enjoy variety, like myself, you can try something like the pulled pork and the brisket. Not City BBQ. You can order a one meat dinner. You can order one sandwich. You can order three sliders. But what if you just want two meats? Nope. So to get around this very silly system, I ordered 3 sliders without bread. I didn’t want sausage or chicken, so I went with the pulled pork, brisket, and then pulled pork with coleslaw on it. City BBQ… c’mon.
