So sad this is closed. Loved going for the sushi. Especially the all you can eat nights. Will miss this place.

Seriously the worst sushi I have ever had. Went during their all you can eat sushi night and it was absolutely horrible. They advertised on their website that they would have salmon and other Tuna and good nigiri sushi as well as the Americanized type of sushi. That’s not true! They only had one Type of nigiri sushi and the rest are cheaply made small sushi with artificial crab cucumbers inside. Some of the sushi the rice was not even fully cooked. The experience was def the worst in my entire life for sushi restaurants. I’m so traumatized that today when I think of that restaurant I get goosebumps and that I still can’t figure out why their sushi could be so bad.

Once a month they do an all you can eat sushi conveyor belt which is simply… magnificent. Like, how does sushi get better than that? I’ve had better sushi before, but the quality is pretty good here. Just note, if you are going for the all you can eat, it’s $ 25, so if you’re not going to eat more than 3 rolls it’s probably not worth it.

I enjoy Japanese sushi rolls, especially when they drift by on a conveyor belt! So I was happy to try this restaurant. We dined about 6pm on a Friday night and sat at the counter. We were about the only ones in there dining. Environment was comfortable. The wait staff did a great job. We chose the sushi rolls from the conveyor and also ordered a few from the menu because what was in the belt was very limited. Sushi rolls were good. Not the best I’ve had but still good. My main issue was the price. As others commented, they are very pricey for the quantity. For what we paid we could have gotten a large platter with rolls and sashimi from other sushi bars in the area. So we give them 3 stars for the value.

Delicious and interesting dining experience. I went on the All You Can Eat night which i believed slowed down service, but the sushi was still spot on. I really enjoyed sitting at the bar next to the conveyor right where they are putting the sushi out so i could easily grab anything that looked good. Wish they would have been labeled. Wouldn’t have been able to figure out what they were without previous knowledge of what they had. The reason for giving them 4 stars vs 5 is because they couldn’t keep up with the demand and not knowing exactly what i was eating, which seemed like a common consensus from what I heard from people around us.

A very unique dining experience. The décor and atmosphere is very modern and creates a very pleasant dining experience. The staff were very well-informed and knowledgeable of the foods and different entrées that they offered. Food was excellent. Highly recommend, hidden dining treasure in Lexington.

First impressions are nice. Very clean and sophisticated with a great atmosphere. The food menu has many traditional/semi-traditional Japanese dishes. I lived in Japan and have visited there and many of the dishes were spot on with a touch of flare. The sushi menu leaves something to be desired, not many choices or anything spectacularly original. The food was mediocre at best. I had the curry beef with tonkatsu(fried pork chop). The pork chop was fried to a crisp, not the good kind of crisp either. I was served basically a strip of breaded leather. It was super tough and dry and hard to chew. The flavor was there and could have been a good meal if not for that. My sushi was incredibly overpriced! $ 4 for one roll/four pieces of a sushi roll and the pieces were tiny. 5 dollars at any other sushi place and it’s double the size and quantity. The nigiri(plain fish on rice) were also very tiny and overpriced. As sushi goes it was fresh. The drinks are incredibly overpriced, the sake and plum wine was extremely expensive when it shouldn’t have been that price point. The other 3 people in my party were also unimpressed with similar opinions to mine. I don’t think I will return.

This place is pretty good. I loved the sushi and the authentic Japanese cuisine. I wish we could give 4.5 stars. Sushi in Lexington has declined, but School is a must if you want the best Lexington has to offer.

What I love: The elegant atmosphere is perfect for date night. I’m a sucker for the sushi conveyor belt gimmick. The waitstaff is very professional and efficient. Although I haven’t tried the French options on the menu, they look great and helped convinced anti-sushi friend to eat at a sushi restaurant. What I like: The sushi itself is okay, not bad enough to complain about, but not so great that I crave it. The standard rolls and sushi are done competently, but lack the freshness of a great sushi restaurant. The special rolls are better. Verdict: School is good, worth eating at, but not a favorite.

Walking in I had high hopes, the place is clean and the conveyer belt idea is really neat, but after a while the sushi becomes dry and it loses its freshness. Not very impressed with the quality, even with the rolls I ordered.

This was my 1st time at this place.(how I do not understand) I love Sushi and this place is not on my short list. Sushi join with French touch, it works. I had the special Red Miso soup and was great if you like Miso. I also had some Sushi rolls. Service was good and very professional. Also at the end so customer or whom ever had picked up my tab. Anyone know this person please thank them for me!!!

Amazing! Our server Michelle was wonderful amd attentive! We loved all the rolls we tried; the Volcano roll, Crunch and Munch roll, Honey roll and Crunchy Spicy Tuna roll. The Tuna roll was really unique and filling, with shoestring potatoe slices wrapped around it. The Miso soup was exceptional. We ended with the churro and fruit compote with ice cream. One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a while! We will be back obviously.

This is the kind of place I really want to like. Great atmosphere, excellent staff, awesome menu, but the food does not live up to the expectations. Unfortunately it fell way short. I ordered tuna, yellow tail, salmon, scallop, and mackerel nigiri; only the tuna smelled and tasted fresh. The rest had an awful fishy taste and slimy texture. I say this as someone who eats nigiri on a regular basis. I had a crunchy roll from the conveyor belt. It was pretty good! The Okonomiyaki is really cool! It’s a thick seafood and bread casserole like thing drizzled in Japanese mayo served on a hot-as-fire stone block. Unfortunately it’s more of an block of barely cooked onions held together with pancake batter with a few pieces of shrimp. Looks and smells great, tastes awful.

Delicious! My husband travels to Osaka for work and this was the only place in town that I could find that offered Osaka style street food. And it was a delicious! And the hubby said it was very authentic too. Definitely try the Takoyaki!

We moved to Lexington from the Boston area a little over a year ago. Since then, I’ve been trying to find a good sushi restaurant to match(or come close to) the level of sushi I had in Boston. Lots of folks told us about School. The Unilocal reviews seemed positive also. We tried a few times, but found long lines(which also a good sign, eh?) So I was finally in the area and drove by around 6pm-ish. The place was almost empty(just a few booths occupied). The sushi bar(about 15 seats long) was totally empty so I sat there(I like to sit at the bar). I brought a book with me to read as my wife is out of town. However, it is very dark in the entire restaurant. A little too dark for my tastes. I had a hard time reading. There is a moving conveyor belt contraption that goes in front of the sushi bar. It was almost empty except for a few California rolls. Perhaps they have something at lunch where you grab what you want and then they count the plates later? The wait staff was very attending getting me drinks and bring the menu. Since I hadn’t been there before, I spent some time going over the menu. It looked very impressive with many things that I would eat and many things my wife would enjoy(she doesn’t like any fish at all). I ordered my normal sushi order when I visit new places(tuna, yellowtail, salmon, mackerel, and a rainbow roll). It gives me something to compare against. The sushi chef didn’t make eye contact with me or anybody else. He had a permanent frown attached to his face. As for the sushi itself. The prices are higher than other area sushi bars. I was expecting perhaps a good size portion. However, quite the opposite. The fish was good, but the pieces were very small and thin. There wasn’t much rice under the sushi. The rainbow roll was just 4 pieces and didn’t have much fish on it.

My husband and I have been spoiled by Genki Sushi in Hawaii. We arrived with an expectation of similar to what we were used to in Hawaii. In comparison this was a disappointment. However, this is more of a gourmet bistro type restaurant. In that b respect it matches the concept. The conveyor options are limited, so we opted for a holiday special that was offered. Didn’t feel it was really worth the 2 hour(each way) drive for this place.

Not bad. Skip the whole«sushi on the conveyor belt» thing as it’s just a gimmick. The menu has some great items and they have good specials. The sushi was fresh and the kamo udon was great! It’s a little pricey, though, and although the food is good there are other, livelier places you could visit. I would definitely go back, but I wouldn’t necessarily make it my top priority.

School is a restaurant that I have wanted to try for some time primarily because they have conveyor belt sushi, which seems interesting to me, kind of like the Japanese version of tapas. I’ve seen conveyor belt sushi restaurants in different cities before, but never had the chance to go to one. For those who don’t know about conveyor sushi(called kaiten-zushi in Japanese), it is sushi on color coded plates(based on price per plate) that travels around on a conveyor belt and you grab the plates as they pass. When I first walked into School I was pleased with the atmosphere. School has a very open layout, a modern design, and it was dimly lit to set a nice mood. We were warmly greeted by our waitress and she explained how the conveyor system worked since we have never been there before(this is nice for newbies like we were). We decided to order a roll, pick up a couple of plates on the conveyor, and try some sashimi. The two rolls we grabbed off the conveyor were the crunch munch roll and the volcano roll(both were $ 5 plates). The plates range in price from $ 2.75 to $ 8 per plate. Both of the rolls they were slightly above average quality; nothing to write home about, but nothing really wrong with them either. My only complaint about the rolls we got, and about some of the sushi on the conveyor, is that each plate only has four pieces of sushi on them, so if you would equate it to a normal 8 piece roll it is slightly pricier than what rolls normally are. The roll we ordered was a chef’s special — it was a California Roll topped with steak. This roll definitely made up for the average rolls we had off the conveyor. The steak was tender and just barely cooked and the roll itself was spot on. I would ordered this roll if you find it as a chefs special or check and see if they could make it for you. However my only complaint about this roll, like the complaint above, is that the roll was a little pricey, $ 15. The sashimi was the star of the night. I tried and would definitely recommend the squid and the conger eel. You get a lot of sashimi for your money and the quality was superb. The conger eel was my favorite of the night — sweet & tender — a must try. School seems like it would be a good place for a date night — great atmosphere, a fun and interactive dinner, but just be prepared to pay a little more for it(pretty much the main reason I rated it three stars).

Love this place. Drinks — try the Snow Beauty Sake. It is a cold, unfiltered saki that has a very smooth and silky taste. Also try the Absinthe Flip. Absinthe was relegalized in the US about 3 years ago and is delicious in this drink. I love the Beef Carpaccio. I never get sushi anymore. I only get sashimi. The sashimi is fantastic. The Sea Urchin, and Conger eel and my favorites. One order is 3 giant pieces and the presentation is great. If you want conveyor belt sushi go for it. The specials are always a treat. The Berkshire pork dish was awesome. The meat was perfectly cooked and rich wet with natural juices. The serving pace is a little fast but not bad. Most of us Americans are accustomed to eating quickly and moving on but food was meant to be enjoyed. If you want to eat sh#tty food fast then go to McDonalds not a quality place like this.

If you’re nervous about looking inexperienced trying sushi, this is the place to go. Very american staff and they all are friendly and very happy to offer suggestions/advice. Price wise, it’s on par with the other local places. You may get slightly less here, but you do not notice. Atmosphere is wonderful. Clean, nice evening lighting, noise level and all make this a perfect date spot.
