Thank you to the the Little Guys Alex and Chauncey for suggesting a little bit of heaven to us. Now we shove our faces full of pastry. Here we met a supper amazingly nice Kimberly who told us a little bit of history of the original location and how the concrete was worn from traffic. She gave us a hint… ask for warm glazed out the fryer and boy was ahe right.

The best doughnuts I’ve ever had. I’ve never been anything less than amazing with the goodies I’ve eaten from this place. You should definitely give them a visit whenever you can.

Best glazed donuts I have ever tasted. You must have cash. Be ready to wait in line although, the last couple of times I have been the lines were not out the door so, I was lucky. I also like the glazed with chocolate icing. I sometimes stop in here on my way to work to give everyone at work a special treat. It’s not good for those on a diet, but I don’t hear any complaints when I bring these in to the office.

I love taking my kids here on a Saturday morning. Donuts are great, the workers are friendly, and I like that while in line I can look around and see the whole spectrum of humanity. Homeless, rich, fat, skinny, short, tall, loud, quiet, and everyone in between. And they are all there for the same thing… fresh donuts. The donuts are great, but the experience is even better. If you haven’t gotten up early to stand in line for Spalding’s Donuts I highly recommend it.

Really good donuts. I had a chocolate cake, and an apple fritter. Would pass on the fritter next time. Small parking lot, no seating.

Spalding’s is a Lexington staple. Cash only. Traditional fried donuts that are to die for. I went with my boyfriend and aunt. We got a sampler of things — a cinnamon twist, apple fritter, raspberry éclair, sticky bun and of course the«plain» donut that is anything but plain! Overall, the traditional glazed donut won out as the best. You just cannot beat the simplicity and deliciousness! Amazing!

I love this place! This is my go to when I bring breakfast to my customers. Their donuts are so delicious, the smell when walk into the cute but modest brick building is just heavenly. Their staff is happy and friendly! The only downside is they do not accept credit cards and they are not open everyday but these are very minor. The cream horns are my favorite!

The doughnuts aren’t pretty but they taste like they are made of fried awesome. Spalding’s really is one of those places that makes Lexington special. Leave yourself plenty of time, as the building is tiny and the line will often snake around inside and then extend out the door. I’ve heard they do a good job on non-doughnut bakery items but I wouldn’t know. I’d never waste tummy room on something other than their basic amazing doughnut when actually there. This isn’t the place for bacon-dipped, edamame filled cronuts or whatever the cool trend in doughnuts is this week(if you want voodoo style, go to North Lime). This is the place for the best freaking plain doughnut you’ve ever shoved in your mouth. These are my go-to doughnut for events. KK is a close second, but Spaldings is very different — old fashioned, unchaged and wonderful. Plus, you often meet local celebs in line. My best advice: Go get a couple of dozen and take them to your office. Be amused as people not in-the-know call them ugly. Watch their opinion change as they take that first bite. Tell them how the doughnuts were even better when you got one still warm for yourself earlier. Enjoy the little tear in the corner of their eye that can only be assuaged by the doughy goodness they continue to enjoy. Offer them a second. Await your promotion.

Amazing donuts and pastries. I enjoyed a lemon Danish, Apple fritter & chocolate glazed donut. Love how old school this place is and how they only take cash. The line was long but it was so worth the wait.

While Spalding’s certainly has AMAZING glazed and chocolate covered doughnuts…(And when they say chocolate covered, they are not messing around. They basically put chocolate frosting on those hot delicious bad boys OMG.) … I think the cake doughnuts that they serve does not get the attention they deserve. If you’ve never tried a Spalding’s cake doughnut, you are truly missing out on half of the awesomeness. The cinnamon sugar one is my absolute favorite and I always buy one for myself to eat on the way home in secret along with the half dozen glazed that I get for my boyfriend and myself. Also these are fantastic for early tailgating. I always pick up at least a dozen for morning/noon UK games.

If you haven’t tried Spalding donuts then you are missing out on an amazing treat only available here in Lexington. They are made by hand and heavier than traditional yeast donuts. Some people refer to them as «ugly donuts» due their gnarly somewhat misshapen appearance but don’t let looks fool you, they are melt in your mouth delicious. They remind me of some Old World German donut. You won’t be inhaling 3 or 4 of these like with Krispy Kremes. The Spalding variety are more cast iron than fluff but I mean that in a good way. The original glazed are the absolute best… until you try the chocolate iced glazed! This chocolate temptress ruined me for the regular glazed and I’m afraid there’s no turning back at this point! Nine out of ten police officers agree, Best Donuts Ever!!!

I gave it 3 because the history behind the business is to be respected, since 1929 it’s been family ran. I also gave it a 3 because their product in their«cream filled» fare is not homemade by any means. Bulk commercial bought filling takes away from the authenticity of the bakery. The pricing was fair, the service was slow, there wasn’t much selection, I’m glad I had cash because cards are not accepted. & they were none too friendly. I wouldn’t visit again. I wish them the best however, because I support local & it is family ran! Just don’t take shortcuts when it compromises quality.

Best donuts around. There’s a boutique bakeries around that gets all the buzz when it comes to donuts, but Spalding’s are better and cheaper. I picked up a couple for me and my wife just yesterday. They don’t disappoint. Delicious donuts and cheaper than others. Only downside is they are cash only.

This may be the best donut I’ve ever had in my entire life. And for only $.75, are you kidding me!?? This old establishment is a very simple place. There is not much décor and they only have a few items. Also, it is cash-only. It’s basically the exact opposite of any hipster donut/coffee shop(e.g. North Lime) The people here seemed pretty nice. Don’t quote me on this, but I think the family in front of me in line forgot their cash and was able to work out an IOU plan with the bakery. If so, that’s some damn good service. I got the original donut and I was blown away. It looks so simple, but it’s so tasty and buttery. I’ll be coming back here to fulfill future donut needs and desires. There’s so much I need to try…

Mediocre at best. I have been hearing how wonderful this place is. I guess I was expecting much more than I got. I would not recommend this as a good choice for donuts.

Spalding’s has become my go-to donut shop in Lexington. While they don’t have very unique or extravagant flavors, everything they make is really good, the prices are extremely low, and I love the people who work there. Despite there often being a line out the door, every staff member is friendly, polite, and a few of them have already learned my 2 year-old’s name and chat with him as we order. Their basic glazed donut is my favorite and easily the best glazed donut I’ve ever had. Parking can be a challenge when they’re crowded, and they only take cash, but supporting this business and enjoying their product is well worth the few logistical challenges.

Sweet googliy moogily, these are the best donuts you’ll ever have. They’ve got eccentric hours, they don’t take credit cards, and there’s usually a line out the door. That said, they make the most awesome donuts you’ve ever had in your life. Things this addictive are usually illegal. For the sake of my waistband I only go here on special occasions, but I do so treasure the times I eat these circular treasures.

Spalding’s is an incredible little bakery. I love that everything is fresh and made from scratch every morning. It’s always busy and they only accept cash as payment so don’t make the mistake of having none on you. No one wants to go to the end of the line, especially if they are low on the doughnuts you like. I love supporting local businesses when i can and when it comes to doughnuts, cakes and other pastries Spalding’s get’s my money. The staff is friendly and the sweets are more than reasonably priced. I’m glad their hours only extend from the early morning until noon because i’d be stopping by every other day if they were open any later. I’d recommend the glazed, chocolate glazed, apple fritters, cinnamon twist and a chocolate cake. I’ve had a couple of chocolate cakes for my kids birthdays and they are divine!

Why 5 stars? Because this was my favorite stop in Lexington. — — — These are some of the best donuts you’ll ever, EVER have. I will 4 more visits to Lexington this year. You can bet that you’ll find me here for each trip. These donuts are just ridiculously delicious. I cannot believe how it’s possible to make something so tasty, but I want to live in this bakery. How much do you think rent would be, obviously including that I’ll be eating 6 donuts per day, and soon they would have to widen the doorway so I could fit in it.
