Dong Hae Sushi

Just love this place! Freshest sushi in town. They make delicious rolls and sashimi. Their cooked menu is equally as good. Their lunch special is well priced for the amount of food you get. Of course the service is what makes them shine. Everyone here is so nice and they always take great care of us. We eat here at least twice a month.

I decided to give this place another try since we had last been here. This time, we got there in time for the lunch special. I almost ordered it because it was such a great deal. They have bento boxes with three choices of main dishes included, all for $ 10. Amazing. But since I still wanted Korean food in a town with no Korean options, I returned to this place since this is the only game in town for Korean dishes.
I asked for iced tea, but since it was a Japanese restaurant, I asked if I could get iced green tea. The waitress didn’t know, but she said that she would check. I got a fantastic iced green tea later. They do try to please, but the restaurant is very busy so be prepared to wait. The prices are good, so it is very crowded.
I ordered the spicy barbequed pork. Last time it wasn’t very spicy. This time, the spice level was much better. I ordered basically a bento box with salad, rice, tempura, a few sushi rolls and the daeji bulgogi. It would have been better bang for the buck to stick to the regular $ 10 bento box, but I left satisfied with my meal. I wonder if they can include kimchi with the meal, too?
So I give this place 4 stars for helping me out with my Korean food craving. Next time I am in town, I will definitely try out the Japanese food. Gamsamnida, Dong Hae Sushi! Arigato!

Always my favorite place to go. I love the atmosphere, the people, and the food! I always get the seaweed salad.

Every time I come here, I’m impressed. The prices are reasonable, the food is great, and the portions are generous. This time, I got a 5 piece crunch roll and chef’s choice sushi. Two in my party got tempura vegetables with their choice of meat and 5 piece roll. I’d highly recommend this place to everyone!

So here’s the thing about Dong Hae Sushi… go now, before the rest of the world catches on. The Chef is personable, but it’s not his demeanor that has me so impressed; it’s the knife skill… it’s the quality of fish… and my goodness it’s the absolutely incredible finishing touches. Dong Hae is a treasure. It’s not just a great sushi restaurant in Lompoc it’s a great sushi restaurant period. I would recommend it to anyone — if you live or are staying outside Lompoc — you might be better served making the trip to city (where parking isn’t like searching for the holy grail)

Wow, horrible sushi. Nice staff, clean place and good service… Which is expected since only 3 other patrons in the rest. The sushi was warm and looked like the end of the batch. It was tolerable but wow. Horrible. No wonder it came out of the kitchen so quickly… it was probably just sitting there. Will never go back!!!

They have good teriyaki chicken but it is overpriced for the portion sizes. The food is ready quickly and they have good service

Good food with good portion size. Always a helpful and friendly staff. They do get busy at times and there can be a wait but, that’s a good thing because it’s busy and people like it here. It’s always nice for a date night.

Yum. Yum. Yum! My entire family loves Dong Hae! The lunch specials are GREAT! Reasonable, and a very nice selection. Sushi chef Supra is so friendly, and remembers what I like and what I have had previously. I like the rewards card… it adds up!
I have to admit it, I am addicted to the Chirachi Bowl… a good selection of sashimi and the presentation is awesome! I highly recommend it. The Dong Hai roll is excellent, my hubby gets it every time. Jessica roll out s another tasty fave, as is the hot night roll for those that like it spicy.
The atmosphere is casual, service is fast and efficient. I also like that it’s open between lunch and dinner.

I have been here multiple times, each worst than the last. The dining atmosphere is uncomfortable at best, and though service has always been polite, don’t even get me started on the food. Their rolls are actually okay, but their beef teriyaki tastes like it’s been marinating for a week, WAY too strong, to the point of having to spit it out into a napkin (experienced this both times I ordered it). What grossed me out the most though (like almost threw it up), was when I noticed halfway through my shrimp tempura that they still had huge poop veins in them. This is lazy & absolutely unacceptable! The waitress was mortified & offered something else, but I was too disgusted & nauseated to eat anything else. I won’t be eating here again.

Stopped in at 8pm on Sunday after a long drive from Yosemite only to be told they were closing, we told them the sign posted on the door says 9 pm! The place was still full as we looked around and the waitress explained they decided to close earl You! Ok I get it, you guys want to bail out with a clean kitchen at 9pm on the dote then take care of a customer! Not good, we have family in town and have eaten here before, but after this no more. We found a better sushi place accross the street packed with customers, great service & friendly sushi chefs

Really good sushi for reasonable price. One of my favorite sushi place in Lompoc. It has great services and the very friendly staffs.

This sushi bar is very nice! The atmosphere is relaxing and the staff are helpful and kind. The sushi I had (Fire Cracker Roll) was great; it was spicy, like it said, and was flavorful.
Now I haven’t been to a lot of sushi bars in Lompoc but if you are in town, I would say it’s worth a try!

If you are in Lompoc I would recommend Dong Hae’s sushi. Not because it’s the best sushi in California, that goes to Shogun in Palmdale, but because you aren’t getting anything better within 60mi. I’ve eaten at sushi houses all over the world, and extensively in Japan, and have learned what makes a good sushi joint.
Watch the chefs prepare the sushi. Talk with them about where it all comes from, what their experience is. This will give you insight into what you are about to eat. Here at Dong Hae they carefully select which fillet to cut from, feeling the meat for consistency. They enjoy their work and are proud to present it for the customer. Emphatic about their trade and dedicated to some random guy sitting at their bar, this place has sushi soul. They obviously get good, but not great, sushi which is their only limitation … but we can’t blame their sources for ingredients to much.
Come here for the experience, the show, the food, and something you rarely find in towns like Lompoc.

This is not sushi, its fast food. The service was terrible, the roll was so big and full of rice it was impossible to eat and it tasted like it had been sitting out for awhile. If you like good sushi and sashimi stay away.

Not recommended. We were there on Sunday afternoon. We ordered a large sashimi platter and 2 small salads. The salads were very tiny, consisting of only lettuce with a tiny bit of red cabbage. The sashimi platter was okay and the fish was fresh, however the pieces were thin and small.
Overall we would not go back. I gave it two stars because we didn’t get sick.

Genuinely great service and delicious food! They treat you like family here and are always willing to make items on request. Ask the servers about «hidden» menu items! Everything is worth trying, and their lunch special is a great value for the price!

Not just good quality fish/​ingredients but they have creative roll combinations.
I recommend the poke tuna appetizer and the caterpillar roll for your first experience

Very affordable lunch special. 1 of the 3 sushi places that’s open at noon in Lompoc, this place is quite good and deserves 4 stars!
