This review is for their to-go orders. Apparently they don’t care too much about their customers who try to phone in orders to place them to go. I kid you not I must’ve called 5 times and all five times nobody bothered to pick up, but I figured they must’ve been busy.(This is strike 1 but seriously my bad because I should’ve taken this as a sign that it was already not going to go that pleasant.) Um, nope. One of the waitresses there had tried to reason that they were«very busy» and customers who try to phone in orders«aren’t a priority for them.» Wait, what? 1. Shouldn’t all customers be a priority? And 2. Don’t tell a customer that!(Strike 2) Anyways, damn I wished I had taken a pic of the restaurant because they were not busy at all! Plus, if I’m able to find 2 parking spots in their super tiny lot then that’s also saying a lot. Last but not least they charge $ 1 for all to-go orders! HUH??? That is so unheard of!!! They’re just using cheap styrofoam boxes LOL! Strike 3 and I am def out and never coming back!

This place has the best breakfast I ever had! There is a long wait but trust me it is so worth every minute. There is a reason why it’s always packed because the food is amazing. I got the French toast with sausage and eggs I definitely recommend this place.

Finally a quality all day breakfast place(closes at 2pm) in la. I had the combo 1. Scrambled eggs were good, potatoes nice and firm, not burnt, pancakes good, coffee ok, and bacon crisp. But bacon not as good as Chuck’s coffee shop in long beach. Need try Chuck’s place again. Their potatoes are pretty good too Anyway, The good: Quality breakfast food. Great choices of pancakes and scrambled eggs. You can see the chefs cooking if u sit at the counter The bad: Closes at 2 pm. The wait. When I was there at about 11 am on June 19, there was wait time of about 1 hour. Glad I was alone; only 15 min for me Little pricey; but aye what do expect from a quality breakfast place in la I paid 18 bucks for combo 1, oj, and coffee + tip

The service here is on point! Wonderful waitresses, always on top of things, super friendly. We arrived on a Saturday morning around 9:20 am and were seated within 30 min. We ordered the dekine french toast, wth pancakes, coffees. The food was good. The bacon was the perfect texture, crispy, but not potato chip crispy. The French Toast was pretty good, the butter on top was great. The pancakes were super thin, almost Swedish pancake textured. Parking is super difficult here.

Typical food. Typical service. Typical Accommodation. Typical mid-class restaurant. Good food, and lots of choices to choose from in the menu. Nothing makes the food so special, but it’s definitely on the process of improving.(Pan cakes, Crepes, Hash browns, etc.) Service is just fine. Waiting is 15 – 25 minutes, there times that the food comes out a little late and sometime earlier than the expected time. The servers and the managers are not rude, some are really friendly but there are also few trying to be good in a way the they have to be.

So delicious! The wait was about 15 minutes on a weekday at 10am. You MUSTTRY the Loaded Hashbrowns because they are amazing! There’s hashbrowns, bacon, and cut up sausages topped with two eggs, then topped with a delicious aioli and green onions. It also comes with 2 slices of buttered toast. It tastes like a breakfast burrito without the wrap, which is perfect for me because I don’t like tortillas very much. The aioli gives the entire dish a flavorful boost and they’re plenty of food to leave you full. The 7 Minutes in Heaven was also delicious! I’m not a huge fan of nutella, but the thick french toast and fresh strawberries and bananas took off some of the heaviness of the nutella and gave it a fresh twist. It’s a little too sweet for me as a full meal, but the few bites I had were really good.

Hungry for delicious, home tasting, licking your chops delicious breakfast fare? This is the place for you my friends! Sure, their sometimes 45 minute waiting for a seat to open is daunting, but the food is so worth it! I do wish it was a bigger place, but hey, I’ve been coming for almost six years and if they are able to stay constantly delicious, no problem! I also enjoy their choice of decorations. I’m a huge dog lover and I geek out at the beautiful pictures they have! But make sure you’re wearing loose and comfy clothing, because you WILL pig out!

The area around here sure has changed a lot since my USC days. If the addition of hipster breakfast spots with quirky names are a sign of gentrification, then I guess South Figueroa is well on it’s way. My wife picked this spot for brunch because of the crap ton of reviews and, I’m assuming, because she loves pancakes. So in that regard, this place delivered. The WTF pancakes weren’t as exotic as the name makes them out to be, but rather they were light and modestly sweet with a nice balance of cream cheese and berries. I ordered the loaded hash browns which are not on the menu, but a quick glance through the pictures makes it clear that this is a well known dish. Once again, it didn’t have any fancy ingredients, but it was topped with an aioli that was pretty tasty, and my sunny side up eggs were cooked deliciously runny. Overall, the flavors were pretty spot on. This isn’t one of those breakfast/brunch spots that boasts humongous portions or an array of exotic breakfast creations. But rather a pancake centered restaurant that churns out thoughtfully prepared dishes with a dependable consistency. If it wasn’t for the ridiculously small parking lot and the ever present wait times, I could see myself coming back here occasionally. But for me, I just don’t know if these pancakes are worth all the effort. What I do know, is that this place is a great addition to an area that was seriously lacking in quality eateries with any sort of ambiance. So I am definitely a fan of that. Maybe the next time I’m in the area for some USC football, I’ll be able to sneak in a few fluffy pancakes before my usual lunch of cheap beer and dirty street dogs. Fight on.

I really feel like this is a four star place. The reason why I gave a 3 stars was because we took it to go. We got boulder not denver omelltte, 7 minutes in heaven, and loaded hasbrowns. It was a just a luke warm temperature. That is not the restaurant’s fault but ours. So it was actually pretty good because as basic as the ingredients were it wasn’t too salty nor too bland for being like 10 minutes of not directly eating it. Making this review short I will come back at have it again. Notes: Parking is terrible. Waits are super long. Super awesome décor inside. Their togo system was really fast. UCS spot for all the kids. Verdict: Will come back because definitely a lively atmosphere and good food.

Dakine breakfast & half Joe/half hot chocolate w/whip Pierce was an excellent server! He anticipated my desire for half cocoa/half Joe & was very accommodating. Ask for him if you want THEE best service! Loved the soft fluffy texture of the Hawaii French toast. Delish over medium eggs(Tapatío Hot sauce really spruces them up). Sausage was very fatty/full of griddle, but had good flavor.

Binky and I decided to eat here on our drive home after our FUN excursion to sunny(although it rained while we were there) SoCal last week. The wait was approximately 25 minutes(not bad for Friday brunch??). The place was FILLED with USC students/athletes so I guess Binky and I found the cool n’ happening college hangout location. The hostess was very efficient in moving patrons into tables as they became available. Binky and I had to pay CLOSE attention to the names she called for fear she would SKIP over us if we didn’t respond in the 1.5 second pause she gave between calling out names. Luckily Binky and I scoured Unilocal before ordering(during our half an hour wait time). Had we not, we probably would NEVER have known about the(not-so-secret-but-secret-to-us) loaded hash browns and INFAMOUSWTF pancakes. 1. Loaded Hash Browns — this dish LOOKED so impressive/delicious. The couple next to us kept looking over at our food as we gobbled down this dish. EVENTUALLY, the woman asked us what we had ordered(I guess the secret hasn’t spread to everyone yet??) and we were proudly able to let her and her boo in on this secret little dish. Thank you Unilocal for making us feel«cool» and«in-the-know»! The dish was delicious — crispy hash, plenty of bacon/sausage(almost too much for my liking…), eggs, and fresh green onions. The dish was filling but certainly not too large(much appreciated…). 2. WTF pancakes — WOW, I definitely was CAUGHT off guard by these pancakes. I am the unfortunate 1% of Americans that really, really don’t like pancakes very much… HOWEVER, the pancakes were so HIGHLY reviewed that Binky and I decided to give the dish a try. I AMSOGLADWEDIDBECAUSEWTFTHESEPANCAKESWEREDELICIOUS. They were OH-SO light and OH-SO fluffy — I didn’t even know it was POSSIBLE for pancakes to be so perfect. Binky and I didn’t even put syrup on the pancakes — we just smeared the sweet, decadent cream around. The berries and powdered sugar were the PERFECT added touch. MUST order — I’ve never had such good pancakes in my LIFE. Service was very quick/efficient/not-overly friendly(my favorite kind). The place was BUSTLIN’ with young and happening guys n’ gals. I miss those pancakes already.

If you’re not willing to wait in line for 30 – 45 minutes on a good day, try going somewhere else for brunch because Jacks N Joe is NOT your place. However, if you’re willing to weather the line, the food at Jacks N Joe is yum yum yum. During my undergrad years at USC I’ve been to Jacks N Joe a handful of times and have tried everything from their My Big Fat Greek omelette to their whole wheat pancakes, and I’m always happy with my dish. Also, I highly recommend their smoothies, which appear to be made with real fruit(and if they aren’t, don’t tell me otherwise ;). My only complaint is that you cannot substitute items in any of the combos, so if you don’t eat meat, the best the servers can do is give you extra potatoes in lieu of the sausage/bacon that comes with the combos, etc. If you can avoid driving here, do so. The parking lot is small and, if the wait time is any indicator, this place is always packed. There is a parking lot behind the restaurant that you can enter from Adams if the front lot is full, though.

I went to USC for 5 years doing both my undergrad and masters so I came here a lot. Their food is solid all around and very filling. In fact, the portions are so hefty that afterwards it’s likely you’ll do what I often did and pass out in your bed, by the pool or in the USC quad afterwards. What’ve I gotten? I’m more of a savory person so I often got their very excellent omelettes but their yogurt is also very good. My friends say the pancakes here are really tasty and the fresh fruit they add is apparently also great, they also have some special batters? You’d have to go and ask or look at another review. I promise you the omelettes are good though, you can even make your own! So why the three stars if their food is so good? The problem is everyone at USC and even NOT at USC knows about this place. I would honestly recommend avoiding this place on the weekends unless you want to wait a minimum of 90 minutes. Also the parking situation is atrocious here. The main lot is more of a glorified cul-du-sac than anything else. Don’t even bother trying for a spot unless you wake up at 5am or something. There *is* parking in the back though and I’ve often gotten lucky at odd hours over the weekends, you can definitely give it a try yourself-best of luck…

I normally don’t eat breakfast a lot(which I know I should since it’s the most important meal of the day), but a friend wanted to try this spot so I agreed to wake up early on a Saturday morning instead of sleeping in(sacrifices we make for food). Having done some research about this place prior hand, I knew that the earlier you go when this spot opens, the better chances of you getting seated earlier will be. So we arrived around 9am here and noticed that a large crowd was already waiting around inside and outside this quaint little restaurant. With a shared parking lot with other small stores, the majority of parking is probably taken by customers of Jacks N Joe. We quickly signed in and was notified that it would be a 20 minute wait time — for whatever was available first option. Since there is a breakfast bar area and then regular inside seating, your best chances of eating quicker is definitely«whichever was available first». As we sat around to wait, I checked the place out to see what made this place unique. The space inside the restaurant really is quite larger than you would think from glancing at it from outside. Even with all the people waiting around, servers, cooks & hostesses, and existing customers inside eating, there was plenty of walking space & not squishy tight at all. To the far left is the open kitchen where a plastic glass separates customers from where the cooks are preparing the food. You can actually see them making your food as you sit there enjoying a cup of OJ or coffee which is a pretty awesome sight. To the far right, after you past the check-in hostess, is the open dining area filled with tables and booths. There was one unique table top there in the center of the dining area where it’s like a squiggly extended out«U» shape where customers can sit on high chairs on each side and just face each other to talk(like an actual breakfast nook spot). Walls are decorated with cute dog frames and food related knick-knacks. Since I was seated at the breakfast bar, I was watching the cooks prepare the food of french toasts, pancakes, sandwiches, eggs, etc. and it was an overall enjoyable experience to see my food being prepared.(Just a note, probably not for the squeamish who are strict on food prep since I noticed several times that the cooks either had latex gloves on & at times when they had none at all. Since the cook prepares the food and throws it on the grill, not a big deal. But there was one cook who was topping off garnishes on the dishes that didn’t have gloves. Just saying…) I was tempted to order the WTF Pancakes which is basically these fun crazy squiggly shaped pancakes(reminds me of pretzels shapes) but wanted to try the basic Buttermilk Pancakes instead to see how they do simple right. My friend ended up ordering the WTF pancakes which I tried and they were just absolutely a delight to eat. They were super light and fluffy and paired with the dollop of cream cheese on top, it was perfect that no additional syrup was needed. The buttermilk pancakes sizes are huge! Really dense and thick; they have a good flavor & I was easily filled with just 2 of these! In addition, OJ is fresh squeezed, side orders of hash brown is generous and nice with a crispy outer lining & a soft center. The eggs and potatoes were just okay and nothing to write home about, but bacon was good. Overall, we were in and out of there are being seated in less than 30 minutes. They drop off your check to you mid-meal & inform you not to rush yourself & they’re just leaving it there out of convenience. Specials of the day for pancake flavors are noted on the side of the wall near the breakfast bar. Can’t wait to be back to try their other pancakes, omelettes and sandwiches! TIP: Credit/Debit cards now require the ones with the chip on it. There’s no parking at the 7 – 11 next door and they will tow your car if they catch you. There’s a space for waiting inside & outside the restaurant. Definitely a USC fan restaurant judging from the USC memorabilia placed around the restaurant.

It’s a block away from the AirBnB where I stayed. Winning! I got a seat at the bar right away. Ruby is one of the most competent and congenial waitresses I can recall; a truly friendly and efficient professional. I got the combo, which they must have included for us who can’t choose among a wealth of delectable options. The pancakes, Portuguese sausage, eggs and potatoes were delicious, and portions generous. However the service, watching the cooks, and amazement that all of them aren’t portly(which puzzles me about staff wherever there is good food) will be the more lasting memories. It reminded me of a lite version of Pancake Pantry in Nashville.

I love this spot! On a recent visit to the great city of Los Angeles, my buddy recommended this place for breakfast/brunch, and what better way to start the day than a plate full of pancakes?! He’s been in the area for several years and he knows the food scene pretty well. Upon entry, my first impression of Jacks N Joe was great — I loved the energy and the place was packed(usually a very good sign). We didn’t have to wait long to sit(perhaps our timing was immaculate). The staff was great, keeping us hydrated and caffeinated at the same time. I settled on Z’s Prime(buttermilk pancakes), and I devoured my stack of 3 pancakes as soon as they hit the table. I thought I needed to order 5 to satiate my hunger, but 3 was more than enough. Parking can be an issue though, so keep that in mind if you’re driving over.

My boss treated us to a late lunch here because who doesn’t love breakfast? Plus Jacks n Joe is right outside of campus. First thing, plan to bus, walk, or bike here cuz parking is scary! A tiny lot and several businesses in the same plaza where people tend to stay a while such a t mobile and h&r block. We were seated right away and our waitress was really friendly, welcoming and giving suggestions, but her level of niceness dwindled as the restaurant’s closing time approached.(2:30pm). First some eggs were really overdone and my boss sent them back and the waitress was visibly annoyed, then she slowly started taking away our food and cups the second it appeared we might be done. Besides the service, the food was good. Pancakes were soft, but no crispy edge. Potatoes and eggs were fine again I prefer a bit of crispness so if I go again I would ask if they do that. Overall decent food and service.

This place looked really promising based on the large crowds and great smells when you walk in. Unfortunately the food was just ok. My eggs were undercooked, the turkey sausage tasted like fake meat, and the hash browns were extremely undercooked with no flavor. If you do eat here, stick with the pancakes! The pudgie Elvis pancakes are delicious! Perfect fluffiness.

WTF pancakes: it looks like a regular pancake with berries, light sprinkle of powdered sugar and sweet cream cheese. But the pancake batter is light and fluffy, cooked in the shape of a funnel cake. It doesn’t even need maple syrup! Make your own omelette with bacon, Portuguese sausage, spinach, mushrooms, bell peppers, potatoes, and feta cheese. Enough for two!

The servers are topnotch, never turned down anybody and there was this group of 7 this morning who missed the call to come in, but was still accommodated as soon as the next one opens up. I’ll definitely be coming back. The only thing about this place is the parking is horrible. It’s a tiny lot with a few other stores to share with. It’s not the greatest. Jacks n Joes has delicious breakfast. If you’re a breakfast lover, this is the place to come BUT, their wait time is ridiculous as is their customer service. I came with my friend and her cousin one Saturday morning(around 10⁄11AM) and didn’t eat till 1PM. We were initially told our wait time would be around 15 min but when we asked hoe much longer we had to wait they said it would be 30 min, confused I asked them why the wait time had increased and they responded by saying that our initial wait time was actually«50 min» and that we had misunderstood, but a while later we heard the same waiter tell another group of people that their wait time would be 15 min but when they came back she told them the same thing they had told us. An hour later, after we had been seated we saw a family of four come in through the back entrance. This family was seated before anyone else who had been waiting patiently outside by the front entrance for a table. After speaking to a «manager» they simply said«that’s just the way we run our family business.» And provided no good reason as to why paying customers are treated differently. Overall, the food is pretty delicious but if you’re hungry and not willing to wait over an hour then this is NOT the place to come.

The best pancakes I’ve had in a long time! Mmmmmm! :) Ordered the WTF pancakes which is just pancake batter scribbled all over & served . They’re so nice and fluffy with fresh berries on top & I believe it was the cream cheese topping as well I can’t recall but it was very sweet & creamy & flavorful. You do t even need syrup on these pancakes. The potatoes were freshly made with flavorful seasoning. The wait to be seated was about 10 to 15mins not bad Reasons for the 4 stars: The tea was alright, it couldn’t of been better it was your average store bought tea package served with not so hot water. Food took forever!!! To be served literally like 40 to almost an hour. At a restaurant I don’t like to be served in random drinking cups that look like they were purchased from the good will. I asked to speak to the Supervisor. The supervisor was very rude and unprofessional. I ask so her name and she wouldn’t give it to me snatch my plate up and told me I had to pay for the food that I didn’t even eat. This is 2016 and black people are still experiencing racism. Big fluffy pancakes, crisp bacon, perfectly seasoned red potatoes and two eggs cooked correctly. What can I say, breakfast is easy to do right, harder to do with a bit of flare and attention to detail. Jacks and Joe delivers with pizzaz but retains that modern diner feel. Friendly, prompt staff up your carb intake with a smile. Dark smokey coffee tops off an excellent breakfast.

The décor was hip but not overwhelming. The food delivered. We had the 7 minutes in heaven which hit the spot. The banana was perfect as was the amount of nutella on the French toast. The strawberries could have been a bit more ripe but that’s just being picky. The omelette was good but not special. I like my omelettes cheesy! I’m a big breakfast person. Ok, ok. I’m a big brunch person. The weekends are when I sleep in and usually the only days I actually get to eat breakfast… Anyway, while on a trip to watch a Lakers game we decided to search Unilocal for a great breakfast spot and this one looked fabulous! Having read a bunch of reviews we knew parking was going to be tough and that there would be a wait… Well, someone was pulling out of a spot as we pulled into the lot so we really lucked out there! As for the wait, there was no way around it. We were quoted a wait time and got a seat inside while we waited. Having a clear view into the kitchen from the waiting area, we watched the cooks work together and saw how much they enjoyed their jobs. That really made the wait time(about 25 minutes) go by rather quickly. Luckily, we were seated at the bar that looks into the kitchen so we basically got a show with our food! Score! The food though? To.die.for!!! I want to comeback to LA to eat here again! Having searched Unilocal(seriously, the best thing ever) we already had an idea of what we wanted and were ready to order fairly quickly. Our food came out super fast(or what seemed like super fast because of the«show» in the kitchen) and it was time to grub! Look at my pictures and read the descriptions! This food is so delicious! My personal favorite was the«7 Minutes in Heaven» french toast. So, so, so good! And the«WTF? Pancakes» were also drool-worthy! Everything we had was delicious! The coffee was also good, and every plate that was taken from the bar was empty! All of the food was either gobbled up or being taken home to be eaten later. And seriously, it’s that good! Great food, good service, and cute theme. No complaints from me. The wait-time is almost a good thing to me. It means something is being done correctly and it is working! Way to go Jacks & Joe! I’m already planning my trip back to you! :)

Fast service, nice service. I ordered from the secret menu. The loaded hash. It was good but it was okay. I particularly was sad about the hash. I like my hash done a certain way — at least half fried/relatively crispy. It came with sausages and bacon with aioli sauce. The sauce gave it more flavor. It looked better than how it actually tasted. Limited parking. Lots of street parking though.

Can’t believe I’ve never written a review for Jacks N Joe after being there so many times. This place is a gem near USC and since USC doesn’t really have great food places around, students have to drive a couple miles away to get delicious food. Jacks N Joe is the exception. First of all, I love the pug logo. Anyone that knows me knows that I love pugs. I’ve been getting their breakfast burrito for a while(secret menu) and it’s amazing how this place makes it so bomb. The burrito comes with bacon, sausage, hash browns, avocado, poached egg. In conclusion, it’s so darn good. Cons: parking is horrible, line is long, so come early!

This place is quite well known amongst USC students, so being a senior who has been here for over 3 years, it was a given that I had to try out this place. Unfortunately for me, the previous times that I’ve been here had hour long waits, so I opted for another place every time. This time I came on a Friday morning around 8AM and we were seated immediately; the restaurant was about two-thirds full. Food: We ordered 2 buttermilk flap jacks and the Dakine French toast combo(came with sausages and eggs). The flap jacks were absolutely delicious and had just the right amount of fluff. However, because of the price of $ 5.25 for two flap jacks, I think I’m going to stick with making my own pancakes. The Dakine French toast combo was a bit disappointing in my opinion. The eggs tasted slightly off. It didn’t have the traditional eggy taste, and was slightly bland. The French toast was delicious(the powdered sugar paired nicely with the hawaiian bread and eggs), but the texture wasn’t my favorite. The toast was had the texture of regular hawaiian bread rather than doughy and chewy with a crunchy/toasted skin. Service: As mentioned, we were seated quickly and given our menus almost immediately afterwards. The servers and chefs are extremely efficiently; they start cooking as soon as you place your order. However, this also means that if you want to change your order, do it before the waitress reaches the kitchen. The food came out together, but it didn’t take long at all. The servers came by a few times to check on us, but generally left us alone. Overall: I would come back here again, but I am in no rush to.

A popular breakfast spot in the USC area that could easily be overlooked. It will be crowded on the weekends so make sure to get first available seating. Park in the back if the front is crowded. Also bring a jacket or two. It’s freezing inside the restaurant. Service is decent although not as friendly at times. Also one waitress confused me with another customer and I got someone’s credit card. I returned the bill and pointed to the customer who it actually belonged to. Food: I got the Totally LA pancakes. They are thin like crepes which makes eating 3 easy. It comes with berries and a lemon butter which is delicious. I also got sweetened cream cheese on the side which is also good. Ordered a strawberry banana smoothie which was a little too watery for my taste. Atmosphere: good vibe and music. Improvements: hooks to hang purses on the high tops would be very helpful. Expanding the number of restrooms(currently single stall) would also reduce lines and crowding by the hostess station.

My friends and I came in here on a Sunday morning around 9:30am. The wait was about 30 minutes or so. We got seated and the waitress was right there to take our drink order. Most of us got coffee and it was really good and served very quickly. They have a long list of specialty pancakes and that’s what makes this cute café so unique and worth the wait. I ordered a pancake combo and I upgraded my pancakes to the«pudgy Elvis» which was peanut butter, banana pancakes. OMG… so delicious and indulgent. The eggs and home potatoes were good, honestly nothing out of the ordinary but you come here for the pancakes and French toast. I’m looking forward to coming back and trying more of their unique pancakes.
