Best Japanese bbq I have ever been to. It’s amazing, the people that work there are very very kind and great waiters. I would recommend this place to anyone. Everything I have ordered has been delicious!

Quality of food — 1star I rarely feel like eating korean bbq when having japanese bbq. This is the first time. Thin slices of beef tongue, absolutely bad texture and flavor. The portion of food was def a rip off, they even suggested us to add $ 2.5 of green onions to the meat dish and which we did, and neither did it add flavor to the meat, nor worth the price. Service — 1star Slow service. Usually japanese places have attentive service, unless they’re super packed. This place was not that packed, but still, super slow. No refill of water, we had to ask them couple times to get some refill. I shouldn’t have changed my mind from going to my all time favorite Manpuku to trying this place. Will not come back. And for those who love japanese bbq, go try Manpuku instead. Wayyyy better.

They got 3 stars because of the service we received, not based off of the food. The food, I give 4 stars. The meats and other food were delicious, but portions run small and is very pricey for what you get. The waiters there run around and they didn’t even check with us to see if we needed a simple thing like more water. Nice people, but not very attentive and ran around without making eye contact. Wizzed by our table so fast and many times and we still had a hard time getting their attention. Would probably not go there again unless I craved pricey BBQ and horrible service. Dinner for two ran us $ 147 minus the tip. We were still hungry and debated if we should fork out another $ 28 for a plate of 8 strips of thinly cut beef. Yeah… nope.

Quality over quantity. This place isn’t cheap so be prepared to spend over $ 100 on dinner for two here but I think it’s well worth it! My boyfriend and I came here on a Friday night and it was busy! Make reservations. This place is relatively small and only seats about 10 tables from what I saw. We started off with salt raw ribeye with egg yolk and marinated fish belly. The ribeye was great especially mixed with yolk. The fish belly was okay, nothing special. We ordered combo A and it came with premium outside skirt, ribeye and Kalbi. You can chose your seasonings but we just stuck with salt and pepper to taste the meat more. We also ordered premium beef tongue, scallops, and premium Kobe Kalbi. Everything was AMAZING. You really learn to enjoy each and every bite here. My favorite was premium Kobe Kalbi and it really melted in my mouth. No chewing necessary. This place isn’t some place I’ll come for a causal dinner but definitely worth it for a special occasion!

I’m pretty familiar with all styles of Japanese cuisine though was not so much with Barbecue. I must say this was a wonderful experience! The added benefit to some great food was getting to play with fire! I enjoyed the Gyoza, Shishito garlic, Shrimp, Premium Rosu both miso and original style and shitake mushroom. I must say I cooked everything beautifully… lol. The food was all well cut and really fresh. The only thing that was amiss was the rice dish that was ordered was almost presented at the end of the meal. I had them not serve it because by that point I was full. The service staff were efficient and very pleasant. The only slight complaint was the restaurant is in a strip mall and not very clean. Keep in mind I’m totally OCD so it a bit hard for to accurately judge cleanliness. I wash my car inside and out everyday. I’ll be back and by the way I don’t think this place is very expensive at all. Great food has no price tag baby…

Great quality meat! Gyu tan(tongue) is yummy ! We usually order the premium Kobe gyu tan! The seasoned green onions are great with the meat. I recommend. Oxtail soup at the end of our dinner is a great finisher! Perfectly seasoned! Service is great here and I always enjoy eating here

This place is amazing! One of the best yakiniku places in Sawtelle. They have a wide selection of cuts and organs(intestines as well as stomachs!) and they’re all so fresh so there are no fears when you’re grilling rare/medium-rare. We ordered short rib, premium beef tongue, skirt steak, pork belly, and raw beef. Each dish was extremely tender but thick enough so it didn’t fall apart when we were cooking. All the sauces are given for you on the table so you don’t have to keep asking for more dipping sauce. The one with salt was my fav and it pairs extremely nicely with most of the dishes because it doesn’t overpower the flavor of the meat. They changed our grill between plates and the cooking with charcoal really makes the experience so much fun. Would definitely come again.

Oh… my lord. The best Asian bbq period. Not only the best Japanese bbq restaurant, but this place beats out all the Korean bbq restaurants as well. The quality of the meat is mind-blowing. I’ve never had meat in such supple textures before. This is the spot. That other place you’re considering going to? It’s no longer the spot to go.

So much to like here. The meat is simply excellent, service is great. Cook over charcoal. Fun for small groups or more. Mostly Japanese clientele. Not expensive for what it is. Daikon salad also yummy. If only there were more places like this in LA. Sure, there is other bbq meat, but none of the places I’ve tried in the area or Koreatown compare in quality at all.

«Awesome Food!!!» I liked coming here and I preferred Tokyo Kalbi over any Korean bbq places in K-town. Japanese bbq is lighter and cleaner tasting. They use premium quality meat. The food is fresh, tender, and tasty. The chef is trained under a well-known Iron Chef in Japan. They used special charcoal for grilling at the tables. We had a late dinner after Gosho Study with girlfriends. It’s located in the shopping center on Gateway and Barrington Blvd. We sat in the back room — 2 reserved tables when we arrived. We ordered the following: *Premium Kalbi(beef short ribs) — 5 stars(very fresh & beautifully presented) *Premium Gyu Tan(beef tongue) — 5 + stars(The BEST!!! It’s my all time favorite; cut squared, long tubular cubes; beautifully presented) *Beef Liver — 5 stars *Beef Tripe — 5 stars **The Japanese bbq comes with Yakiniku sauce — salt/pepper, original sauce, miso, spicy miso of choice. *Shiitake Mushrooms — 5 stars(taste very good grilled!) *Daikon Nori-Nori Salad — 5 + stars(thinly sliced daikon Nappa, carrot, dried seaweed with soy dressing and awesomely presented stacked high — resemble a upside down snow-cone) *Shishito Peppers with Garlic — 5 +stars(love the taste) *Mixed Kim Chi — 5 stars(home made Nappa & Daikon) *Yukke Sashimi — 5 stars(marinated beef rib eye with egg yolk — this is very delicious) *Liver Sashimi — 5 stars(beef sashimi) *Oxtail Omen — 5 stars(oxtail, ramen noodle with vegetables in soup) *Yaki Onigiri — 5 stars(grilled rice ball with Dried Bonito Flakes) *Cheese Cake — 5 stars(light Japanese cheese cake — reg/green tea) *Kikusui Junmai Ginjo — 5 stars(my all time favorite sake) Presentation of food — 5 +stars Drinks — 5 stars Service — 5 stars excellent Parking — plenty of parking in the mini mall or street parking They also have 2 other restaurants Ramen-ya and Asian-ya, which are also very good.

Went to grab dinner here for Valentine’s Day. We both enjoyed the food very much. The food is delicious. They also have dinner sets which have different kinds of meat all included with that price. It seemed like the servers were preoccupied with each other. My girl wasn’t too pleased with the service. That is why I am giving them a 4-star rating. One thing that I really liked about this place was that they went out of their way to bring us ice cream on the house which was a nice surprise. Overall great food, decent service, and pretty affordable.

Devine!!! What a dinner! Highlights: hirami(skirt steak) and kalbi, Og sauce is the way to go!!! The mushroom in garlic butter is a must try also. The service was above and beyond. All three waitresses were so accommodating, making sure to pour your sake, beer and serving salad. Puts manpuko to shame!!!

3.5 star Japanese style yakiniku restaurant(3÷27÷2015). It may be their policy, but meat was served after all other dishes including rice were served. I personally prefer to start cooking right after all the cold appetizers are served. We ordered daikon salad(a bit too saucy), sashimi liver, beef tendon stew(ordered twice, very good), jo kalbi, tongue, toro pork, bibimbap in a stone bowl. Sashimi liver had a very strong earthy taste, but I love it that way. Everything other than serving order and oily table surface were what you expect in Japan, fairly authentic.

It was good, not great. Portion sizes were very small yet you pay the same thing you do at other bbq places but get much less. They bring you a big plate with very small pieces of artfully cut meats. People actually go out to eat to satisfy hunger(yes, Tokyo Kalbi, they do) yet after spending well over a hundred bucks here I didn’t feel satisfaction. The service was quite scattered and the décor modern simplistic. The best thing we had was the white radish salad. Delicious. If you want a glorified tea ceremony disguised as BBQ, come here, otherwise there is a good BBQ place on National by Sawtelle that really gives you your money’s worth.

Even though I am not so much of a meat eater, I like coming here. They offer good quality of meat for affordable price. I like the fact that they have varieties on their menu, not only meat but seafood and different kinds of appetizers.(Sometime they let me order Tan Tan Men from their adjacent restaurant Asian-Ya.). Yes, Totoraku is magnificent but I am getting older and can only eat so much meat… All servers both waitresses and waiters are attentive and friendly. They are also easy on eyes which make this place look even more stylish.(Isn’t it a good thing?) I have run into many renown Japanese restaurant owners here. I think it shows how good this place is.

This is fancy bbq style dining where you grill your own little bits of food that look pretty, but pay high prices. This is a great Japanese style Korean bbq that’s open late, however, expect to pay some $$$ for a small plate with thin slices of meat. It’s not anywhere close to the traditional Korean bbq where they will bring out a plate stacked high of sliced meat. Also, the sauces to dip the meat in were good, but they were not memorable to me. We enjoyed their 3 complimentary kimchi pickles. The flavors were not on the bold side like typical Korean kimchi, they were lightly pickled and refreshing. Here’s what we ordered: 1. Tokyo Kalbi Mix A premium beef short rib, premium rib eye and premium out side skirt $ 24.00. All of the meat were tender and good quality. My favorite was the short rib, it was super tender. 2. Premium Gyu Tan premium spicy miso beef tongue $ 9.50. The tongue was tender and moist. This was my favorite. 3. Marinated Corn for grilling $ 3.50. The marinade was too bland and the corn was not sweet. I wasn’t a fan of this one. 4. Bibim Men cold noodle tossed with spicy sauce $ 7.50. Other known as Korean spicy cold noodles. This was the perfect ending to the meal. Not spicy at all, but sweet, crisp, and refreshing. A nice filling portion too! Overall we enjoyed our dining experience here and the service was awesome, but still pricey for what you end up getting. I will forever be a fan of Anjin in Costa Mesa, CA or Tsuruhashi in Fountain Valley, CA. They are top notch Korean /Japanese style bbq that offer incredible sauces to dip your meat, quality meats and amazing marinated flavor. Nothing will ever compare to them!

Definitely top quality meat, definitely delicious, but definitely pricey. If you’re used to Korean BBQ-sized portions, please note, this ain’t happening here. We’re in a delicate Japanese joint, and they give you delicate cuts of meat with a scant 6 or so slices. While I wasn’t too impressed with the raw octopus or the raw fish belly app, we really did love the waitress-recommended daikon salad. And again, the meat was just superb. The tongue being the best of the bunch, despite the fact there were only 7 or so teeny pieces provided. You have to order the combos because a la cart is way too expensive. And remember, they charge extra for rice. And ignore the«spicy» warnings; nothing here is too spicy at all. Anyway, would I come back? I’m torn because the meat was extraordinary, the service was good, but I don’t think I’d pay that much for such small portions. Though I have been thinking about that tongue. .. wait, that sounds slightly pornographic. Scratch that.
