This place has the freshest and most dank customer service. The sushi ain’t bad too. If you like that spicy sushi come on down the Yens and get your self one of them Hot Night rolls. Was spicy goin down gonna be straight fire coming out. The waitress even packed up our sushi for me and my girl right there at the table. 5 stars for this sushi joint.

Service was terrible. I asked for a beef bibimbap with just onions and bean sprouts, and they brought me a bibimbap without any beef saying that I only asked for onions and bean sprouts. Then when I told them, no I wanted it with beef too, just not the other vegetables, the waitress was rude and dismissing. She finally brought me the beef after 5 minutes of waiting. Keep in mind no one else was at the restaurant. They gave us terrible service as well and didn’t tend to us. We gave a 15% tip, and they complained on why we had given a «10%» tip. I laughed and walked away.

Omg this place is awesome! Probably one of my favorite sushi spots on the west side! Black Mamba Roll(New) is a ten out of ten! Crazy Boy Roll is a fried Cali roll but man it’s amazing!!! Ten out of ten! Spicy garlic edamame is not on the menu but they have it and it’s awesome! The spicy tuna actually is spicy! Really great! Fresh fish amazing taste. Miso soup is also an A+ with great flavor! Highly recommended! Thank you Yen!

I think they are a little overpriced but the sushi is pretty good. I miss the old owners that did happy hour for a reasonable price, not $ 12/roll. But it’s fairly authentic. Parking is a little annoying because it’s scarce unless you valet.

I work in the area, so I’ve frequented this restaurant a handful of times and after today’s visit, it will also be my last. While their food is mediocre, their customer service is even worse. The two ladies that«manage» the restaurant are extremely rude and pushy. While I’ve generally accepted their lack of customer service in the past, the last straw came today when the«managers» questioned our tip amount. She DEMANDED a higher tip than what was stated on the receipt(because the bill was paid with two forms of payment). I have NEVER had anyone in the restaurant business question my tip generosity. To make things worse, the«sushi chefs», and I use the term loosely, mocked us on our way out of the restaurant, in front of a group of patrons. Unacceptable. Stay away from this RUDE establishment and take your business to Mama Hoangs instead. The food there is better.

This is an outstanding sushi, poke bowl, and ramen shop with amazing lunch specials. I highly recommend it. I’m updating my review and keeping it at 4 stars. I have a few things to add since my last review. They just added poke bowls to their menu, and they are delicious! You can choose what type of fish and sauce you want. I recommend getting it with albacore, salmon, ponzu sauce, and adding avocado. Really delicious and fresh with cucumber, seaweed, radishes, and onion. The bowl is a good, large size too. Get it. They also added ramen to their menu and it’s good! It is flavorful and very traditional tonkotsu. The noodles are really nice too — somewhere between thick and thin noodles. The pork is perfectly cooked so it melts in your mouth, and the egg is also perfected. It may not be the best ramen in town, but it’s up there. So stop by at Sushi Yen! If you’re there at lunch you can get great specials, and their selection is always really fresh. You can taste the love behind this food and the skill of their head chef.

Unless you are desperate for sushi, I do not recommend this place. I came here a few times over the past couple of years and each time their service was crap. What kept me coming back? The spicy tuna crispy rolls and the lunch roll specials. What made me stop? A mix between realizing they have a B on their window and the little asian managers bad attitude. The service is poor. Good luck if you stop by!

Great Sushi Chefs but definitely not a place to fill your stomach. Portions are very small for the price. It’s only worth going to this place if it was the last resort. Not to mention the condescending waiters that have no knowledge of customer service. Never going back here again. You get better sushi from an aquarium store.

I think A-OK is a good way to describe this place, but the pros aren’t quite enough to keep me going back regularly. Pros: — Accommodating to big groups despite the small space — Great lunch specials — Tasty rolls — Patio seating Cons: — Service is very slow and inattentive — Space is a bit cramped — Outside of the lunch special, some dishes are a bit pricey — Soda is served in a can

I’ve been coming here for years! Convenient location, fabulous all-night happy hour with friendly service, fresh and delicious sushi. Large parking lot with 90 minute validation. Incredible sushi bar. Great ambiance. I love the crispy rice, jalapeño ahi sushi roll. They have the coolest chopstick holders around!

Decent meal, but it’s not a destination(if I’m in the area maybe I’ll go for lunch). The sushi is just ok. The salmon skin roll has a generous amount of salmon, but it’s not very flavorful. The tuna in mixed rolls isn’t the same(higher) quality cuts they use for nigiri(fish on top of rice). To get 5 stars a sushi place has to have pride in their rice — proper sushi rice isn’t cheap plain white rice. Not that this tastes bad… but real sushi rice preparation has a beautiful flavor and texture that enhances the fish. If they upped their rice quality, I’d give 4 stars. For the price, this is a fair deal — it’s not 4⁄5 star sushi, but then, rolls are $ 4-$ 5. Their basic miso soup is a winner, it has plenty of scallions, seaweed and tofu in it.

OK so first things first… looked great from the street, selected largely due to short walking distance from West Los Angeles Veteran’s Hospital campus, and ease of navigation. Walked in around a quarter to 6pm, 1st customer. Nice seating, clean, comfortable. Baseball on the tube. The woman running the register brought me a pair or menus and my drink. I start with an order of yellow tail — fresh, tasty, but thin. While I’m looking over the menu I can smell urine. This being Los Angeles, I thought at first I had stepped in a puddle I didn’t see on my walk over. I look all over, then realize it’s THEMENU.(This is the smell you get when sushi fingers handle your menu and you don’t clean it.) I delivered the menu to the register, notified them it was«very dirty», and went to wash my hands in the restroom. I tell the gentleman behind the counter I’ll be having the spicy tuna roll which they had another name for, can’t find it on the online menu now, and amaebi. Three times I said, «fried shrimp heads». The amaebi was my sole purpose for venturing out for sushi. The spicy tuna was appropriately delicious. Then I’m handed a shrimp tempura roll. He could tell from my posture something wasn’t right, but I figured Hell, it’s cheaper than market value for the shrimp so I said everything was fine, finished the tempura which was fair, and paid my bill.

ROACHES!!! So I never make Unilocal reviews. Ever. But this needs to be addressed. Sitting here waiting for my food with 5 coworkers and right before the food comes, they brought our waters and there was a ROACHFLOATINGINMYWATERGLASS. Before I was able to grab my phone to take a picture, they whisked the glass away when they realized why we were visibly distraught. Because we didn’t have enough time to get food somewhere else, we ended up finishing our drinks(not our waters. Eww.) and food and when the bill came, they didn’t even give us a discount. EVENWORSE, they included gratuity for a 6 person table. Now, I would’ve tipped anyway, but to include it because you were afraid of not getting tipped because you gave us a roach, AND not give us a discount, let alone a comped meal is INSANE. When we mentioned it, they took off a 10 dollar bottle of Saki to make up for it. Imagine that, 10DOLLARS. It’s going to cost a lot more than 10 dollars for the therapy I am going to need to get me to eat sushi again.

Great place to get sushi and have a couple beers/sake. Lets be honest here, this is more of a value sushi shop. Don’t come here expecting the absolute best fish quality. That being said, the food is delicious. They get pretty creative with their rolls and their happy hour is a very good deal. My favorite thing they have is the avocado ball… which is basically a giant chunk of spicy tuna wrapped in avocado — DELICIOUS.

I love Yen for their diverse menu of rolls and sushi at reasonable prices, the casual atmosphere and their happy hour specials. It’s a great choice for those days when I need a sushi fix but am feeling too frugal for Sasabune and am too fatigued to deal the racous of the sake bombs down the street at Hara. They have an extensive menu with many traditional and specialty rolls. The fish has always been fresh. It’s not Sasabune quality, but it’s satisfying enough. The menu for rolls is extensive. They have the usual popular items like rainbow, spicy tuna, crunchy and caterpillar, which are all tasty. And they have several specialty rolls unique to Yen that are creative and flavorful. I think it’s awesome that some of the rolls come with a small side of tempura! I love that they have extended happy hour on weekdays and buy one get one half off sake. For non-sushi eaters, they also serve rice dishes, teriyaki, udon and have great lunch specials. I appreciate their diverse menu. Service has been good the last few times I’ve been, though I know in the past it has been hit or miss. Definitely a good small, intimate neighborhood spot.

Been here at least three times now since Yen is close to my work I’ve found that the food here varies. One time bad, another mediocre, then the most recent time was good. They have lunch specials on weekdays, not sure about weekends. And sometimes at lunch they also have a half priced rolls menu My favorite meal here has been the Osaka lunch special. –miso soup –salad –tofu steak –3 sashimi –3 nigiri This visit the fish was pretty fresh too! Pleasantly surprised since previous visit were not as satisfying (In past visits I’ve ordered the salmon skin salad and other lunch specials, but it was lackluster-where the three star rating comes from)

This place is actually not that bad; pretty solid. Their sushi is ok and their serving sizes are huge. The four of us ordered 7 rolls, edamame, and 8 orders of sushi. Everything came out to about $ 20 a person but they also have their anniversary pricing so most items were 50% off. I’m not sure how long this deal will be around. On Sunday, the deal is from 12 pm to 9pm. Parking is available underground for 1.5 hrs free with validation. Get the hot night sushi. The eel and avocado was also surprisingly good even though it’s a common roll.

Great service and decent food! This place hit the spot on a night that we were craving sushi but were too lazy to drive. The service was great. Them being attentive and making sure everything was perfect did not go unnoticed. However, the food was just alright. Decent rolls but just did not have that«wow» factor. The fish on our nigiri was fresh, but slightly thinner than I usually see it. It kind of threw off the whole fish to rice ratio. Their sizzling beef bowl was good, but more a lot more veggies than beef. Would definitely stop by here again and try other stuff.

All I can say is avocado !!! Its literally stuffed with a whole lotta tuna and its huge. Okay, that’s more of a tip than a review… We came here with a groupon deal, and it def made the meal worth it. The service wasn’t bad, from what I can remember. Its a clean restaurant, located in the corner of a crowded plaza. It has all the same Japanese dishes as any other sushi restaurant. Honestly, just get the avocado tuna ball creation. So good.
