I’ve been to several coffee shops around the state and I still haven’t tried a Chai Latte better than Quill’s. I absolutely love Quills! The atmosphere is great and the baristas are super nice and helpful. This is also a great place to do homework, or catch up with a friend. Just excellent.

I love coffee. Really good, smooth freshly made coffee. I like Quills. Quills uses quality coffee beans and makes great specialty drinks(with the added touch of latte art). You can also get tea and other non-coffee drinks if coffee isn’t your thing. I enjoy the treats made by Please and Thank You that they sell but wish they served a few more substantial food items for if I’m there working through lunchtime. The place is great to study or work with lots of tables and outlets to plug in and be productive. It’s fairly quiet so if you want to talk loudly with a friend, you might stick out a bit. Feels more like a library than a coffee shop with friends chatting. While I like Quills, I prefer the coffee at a couple of other coffee shops in Louisville over Quills. I don’t find the staff particularly friendly and sometimes seem a little«too cool for everyone and everything». But overall, you can get a good coffee or espresso drink and experience a quiet atmosphere at Quills.

I actually found this place while using Google maps to find a Starbucks. Glad I did– amazing coffee, great vibe and very relaxing. Will make this a frequent stop when in town from now on.

I love Quills! There are a lot of great coffee options in Louisville, but I love to pop into this location whenever I can. They’ve got a lot of varied seating options. You’ve got lots of choices whether you’re working or networking or just relaxing. The menu is varied and has lots of delicious choices. I’ve tried many and enjoyed all. Quills tends to be busy throughout the day; a testament to a job done well. But I can always find a seat. I usually pop in here for a relaxed business meeting or to grab coffee with a friend. I don’t usually grab-and-go, because I like to sit and relax here. It feels more relaxed than the large chain coffee shops.

Absolutely and consistently the best coffee I’ve found in Louisville. I’ve explored many of the home grown coffee shops in this city. Regardless of the barista, the espresso drinks are excellent as is the espresso used to make them.

Is this a good place to get some work done? Yes. I saw several working professionals there. I went there around 3pm. There were plenty of street parking, but it can be very tough

I arrived at Quills late in the evening after a long day, though I’ve had longer. I wished someone would just hand me a coffee. Nope. I had to decide what I wanted. I couldn’t. I put it off, I said«still looking at the menu,» I went to the restroom, I came back, I stared at the scones, I stared at the floor, I stared at my past and my future. I ordered an americano, Brazil. I also requested one of those scones: jalapeño asiago apricot. I drank the coffee, I ate the scone. Where was the apricot in the apricot scone? At least there was coffee in my coffee. I went back out into the night, on to Nashville. I have been to Quills.

I’ve been missing LA a lot this week. I don’t know why. Maybe its been the sun, the weather, the fresh Cali air. Enter, Quills. I was meeting a friend to catch up so we stopped by Quills on this fine day. The options for coffee at Quills reminded me of Intelligentsia. You can have so many ways that the coffee can be brewed — slow drip, chemex, etc. It’s awesome! If thats’s not your preferred cup of joe, you an enjoy a nice latte or tea. I had the maple latte and it was delicious with our Please & Thank You cookie. Quills is the best!

I will always seek out Quills because their chai is just that freaking delicious. Hot or cold, the extra cinnamon they add takes it to a superior level. Tonight, I went for a large, hot cup with a chocolate chunk cookie because the weather was so blustery and miserable. The creamy foam and rich chocolate were a match made in heaven. Now, having acknowledged my chai addiction, I can move on to the rest of the review. The three stars reflect the overall experience, not the service or quality of products. Since ambiance is a key factor, for me, when selecting a coffee house, this is where the lower rating comes into play. This location, as opposed to the one near UofL or the one in New Albany, has a bookstore feel to it. Everyone, except me, had a laptop and/or book out on their table. I was meeting a friend to catch up over my obsession, I mean tea. However, I felt like I’d just crashed a study group. One lady across the communal table from us even got up and moved(we were practically whispering). The loud-ish, indie music didn’t seem to phase people, but actual conversation over coffee was an irritant. Strange. The space is bright and open. The staff is knowledgable and friendly. Prices are competitive and the parking, well, it’s Bardstown Rd. Next time I crave their chai, I’ll get it to go and meet up with folks somewhere more inviting or drive to the Old Louisville location. Wish this one could accommodate both worker bees and social butterflies.

I’m working as a barista currently and while I am still new to the craft I’ve made a lot of effort to at least know when I’m drinking something well made. That’s what you get at this location of Quills. I ordered a soy cappuccino and received the perfect soy Capp. It’s foam was perfect(velvety), no separation between foam and steamed milk but instead a perfect gradient all the way down to the espresso. I was really sad to finish it, I didn’t want to end the experience! If you’re serious about good espresso drinks made well, go here. This location also provides a ton of seating at tables with plenty of areas to plug in. It seems they highly encourage their customers to come in and sit for a while.

I came here after dinner by suggestion of a friend, and it was awesome! Quills is a very cozy place with a great staff. As soon as we came in we were greeted by friendly smiles! I had never really been there so I asked a couple of questions, which the guy at the register was more than happy to answer. I decided on the Alchemist, which I had heard some good things about. Once our drinks were ready, I noticed that they do not put the lids on– they leave them on the counter so that you can see their lovely latte art. Which is seriously awesome. As a person who works in a coffee shop, I love to see people getting creative with foam. Yay foam! About the drink– I actually didn’t like it very much. In theory I think I would have. I like chocolate, I like espresso, and I like spicy… just not together, I guess. To each his own. However, the drink was made very well. The foam was super velvety with minimal bubbles, and that definitely says that the person who made it cared about the quality. Anyway, after realizing that I didn’t care for the alchemist I decided to get a small hot chocolate and it was SOOO good! You can never go wrong with hot chocolate, I tell ya! All in all, I would definitely return. Great staff and great, handcrafted drinks. Not to mention a very cozy, warm atmosphere. Thank you, Quills!

Modern, industrial shoppe. I appreciated the décor and the knowledgeable baristas. Would have bought a shirt, but only had XS size. Was traveling thru and I liked that this was close to the highway, easy on and off. The area is Art Deco and so vintage. Very glad I stopped and will stop again, hopefully they will have a larger size selection in the t shirts.

Start your day with an escape from the ordinary when you grab your morning Java at Quills. This is my new favorite place for an AM latte, adding just a little something special to my morning routine. Quills blends right into the Baxter Ave landscape, with a recessed vestibule off the sidewalk that includes a high top table and seating for 4. While there’s also a café table along the sidewalk, the little enclave allows for outdoor people watching even on a drizzly morning. Inside, it has a rustic elegance that highlights the original architecture. High ceilings are adorned with a tin tile finish in the front of the store. Hardwood floors provide a cozy environment and the natural finish is echoed with solid wood tables throughout the inside. I like to think of the lattes here as being made with love, because the barista always finishes them off with a little heart-shaped drizzle in the foam. It’s a local joint, which warms my heart to visit, and it’s really hard not to fall in love with this particular location. But don’t take my word for it! Visit for yourself and discover what there is to love at Quills.

I appreciate good coffee, and after four years, Quills has yet to disappoint. I would recommend an iced mocha, but that’s just my usual. You really can’t go wrong with any of the drinks. The Blacksmith espresso is out of this world… These guys are coffee roasting wizards. The shop also has a really nice atmosphere. Very relaxing & nicely decorated. They have some really cool art on rotation. My one complaint is that it can get quite crowded during peak hours; but I guess that’s what happens when your product is so stellar. Anyhow, check this place out if you’re in the area. It is second to none(besides maybe Sunergos on a really bad day)!

Awesome coffee and great service. Their staff is so nice and totally deserving of tips! I always have the vanilla latte, because if it’s not broken why fix it? Love the lattes! The atmosphere is exactly what you think of when you think of a contemporary modern coffee shop. The best part is that they have a lot of seating, which is great when I’m coming here to change up my «office». The only reason I gave 4 stars is because of their internet — it’s very spotty and it has always cut off right in the middle for me. Really disappointing when I’m trying to get work done. But overall, worth the visit for sure!

First time here. This place MIGHT top Sunergos as my go-to coffee place. The setting is nicer and cleaner. The coffee is really about the same as Sunergos, in my opinion. I’m giving it 5 stars, because I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt. They were very slow this morning. I couldn’t tell if it was because they are just really slow, or if it was because people are ordering really random drinks that take forever to make. I’m guessing that’s it, because I watched this poor woman behind the counter stand there and hand make this tea/coffee/thing, and I couldn’t help but thinking, «That is so unnecessary.» Good place. My new favorite.

This is the cutest coffee shop. I don’t know what it is about it but if I was living in the neighborhood, this would defintely be a spot I’d frequent. Unsure of what to get, I went with the Autumn Latte to go along with the weather. It was delicious and tasted like Fall without the pumpkin. I may even stumble here again tomorrow and try The Alchemist, which I was told tasted like a mexican hot chocolate, before I skedaddle out of town.

Came in on quills’ 5th year anniversary, and so had the chance to try some really awesome coffee. The espresso(had a cortado) is wonderful and caramelly sweet, and the drink was made very well. They were pouring free V60 samples, so we tried the El Eden and the Sopacdi. The Eden is wonderfully juicy and fruity right off the front, and the Sopacdi is a great, approachable, chocolatey light roast. I ended up getting a bag of the Sopacdi for home and the baristas were great with recommendations and brewing tips. They have some delicious baked goods from all around town, and the ambiance is awesome. Definitely a must have!
