First of all, service is next to non existent. The moment we walked in and no one came to us to bring/direct us to a table, I had a feeling this was going to be survival of fittest. We finally just sat ourselves and finally waiter noticed us and came over to toss us some menus. That was pretty much the extent of service as he pretty much ignored us for the longest time. It was lunch time but the place was not packed, only a few table had couple folks. I’m not sure if it was just father and son working because they’re the only pair of folks I saw running the place. My companion commented we’d probably have to start sending up smoke signals to get anyone’s attention. Prices looked dismal…$ 11 for bowl of phở??? Seriously, the place looked pretty shabby so I assumed the premium price went into making the phở. WRONG. I had the Phở 99 special which was just assorted meats and seafood with two kinds of noodles. The soup base was plain and nothing spectacular. I was disappointed and concerned about the future of this place. Maybe phở isn’t their specialty… then again they are call Phở 99… forget it, I can’t justify anything worthwhile about this place. You’re better off going to the other places that serve Phở towards Main Street.

It is way overpriced at $ 11 for a bowl of mediocre phở! Service was bad. We walked into the restaurant and we were just ignored. They had only one table of customers, it’s not like they were remotely busy. We had to go up to the counter and get our own menus and ask for service. It took them 15 – 20 mins to get us our dinner and took just about the same amount of time to get their attention to give us our check. I think we could have just walked out and they wouldn’t have even noticed. Don’t waste your time coming here, walk down the street, there are 2 other much better phở places 2 blocks down. Not worth it!

I ordered large beef phở noodle soup and the broth disappointly was bland but friendly service. I can’t see to find a good phở in the area

The Phở is always spot on. Very good broth. Best broth comes from the beef knuckles and leg bone marrow. I am sure they use this for the broth. I ordered delivery. The timing was fine. Presentation isn’t very appealing seeing raw meat mixed with your noodles but this is actually a good service to you. You want the meat freshly cooked in the broth and they give you that luxury. I just wish they sold Bahn Mi but otherwise you can’t go wrong.

My 2 visits here have a stark contrast. My first visit was roughly a year ago and I was blown away by the food and service. Of course I don’t remember what my friend and I ordered but I DO remember how amazing it was and that I couldn’t wait to visit it again. Something else that stood out during that visit was that at the end of our meal our server brought out this amazing, warm, Red Bean in coconut milk soup-like dessert. It sealed the deal. I was in love… Fast forward several months later and one could only imagine how disappointed I was with the lackluster meal(but great service). I ordered wonton soup as an app and braised fish. My friend opted for the fresh spring rolls and«create your own» stir fry. The wonton were perfect size, not too big/not too small, and seemed pretty fresh but something was off with the spices. I couldn’t put my finger on it. The braised fish was a little salty but tender and cooked well however, the rice was meh. My only disappointment was the Red Bean and coconut milk soup dessert. It was practically ice cold. I was looking forward to that more than anything else. For now, 3 Stars bcz they may have been having an off night. I’ll be back and hopefully wowed again.

I come here just because we like the beef noodle soup & they make decent smoothies(I like avocado shake w/ice-cream) because it’s closed to home! Why go Chinatown when you can go here!

I agree with the other posters, the ambiance here leaves a lot to be desired. Last night hubby and I went; there were two TVs on over head. They switched the audio back and forth between then, so first it was a Jason Strathem movie and then it was Rambo. Ugh. I don’t go out to eat to watch TV. Having said that, we love the food here! Avocado fresh rolls were wonderful; my usual bowl of vermicelli/bun with tofu, tofu and tofu(you get three choices of add-ins, this is what a vegetarian chooses) was amazing as usual.

I thought Phở 99 was great in terms of food. I went with my husband and daughter, who is extremely picky. She got a noodle soup, just noodles and soup with some veggies, and my husband and I both got the Bun. I got chicken and a spring roll and he got the pork. Both were fresh and very delicious. Will definitely go again for Vietnamese — might be better for take-out though as environment and ambiance is not too welcoming.

One of the best phở I had since I moved to the east coast. A bit pricy but it’s wroth it. Wished all the stuff I ordered came all at the same time though.

As with most Phở places we go for the food and take what we get with ambiance. This is no different. Phở Ga was excellent, full of good stuff. Had the tofu spring rolls and they were huge! Service was quick and hot. Parking is just to the right of he building so you may have to drive around again. The service was ok, I got a hello and a thank you. I’ll be back!

This is my favorite Vietnamese restaurant. The food is fantastic my favorite dish is the beef vermicelli bun. I have had this dish at other restaurants but it is no where near as delicious as phở 99. The price is great here and the food is fantastic. The restaurant is not fancy and the décor is not that great but the food is to die for.

This is my second visit and most likely my last. Both times I’ve tried their Phở. It’s tasty and it’s cheap($ 9). But the poor service so off-pudding, we didn’t even enjoy our food. My fiancé and I were the only customers in the restaurant but the server and his friends were busy watching a movie. In fact, it was so loud I kept turning around to see if they’d notice but they were also loud with each other. It was really annoying. When my fiancé got her bowl, she noticed that it wasn’t what she had ordered. She wanted a Phở with just steak, instead she got everything including tripe, which she’s not too fond of. She initially picked out these meats but couldn’t stomach(no pun intended) the bowl in front of her, so when we asked our server(hoping he’d apologize and give her a new bowl), he blankly stared at us as if to say, «what would you like me to do about it.» After this awkward moment, we said forget it and she tried her best to eat around it. Needless to say, she did not finish her bowl. We also ordered fried spring rolls and golden tofu. Fried spring rolls were so over fried it was dark and falling apart. The golden tofu wasn’t too bad. And in all honesty, my bowl of Phở(with just steak) for $ 9 is pretty good. The entire time while we were there, the server never came over to check on us or refill our water. He was busy watching a kung-fu movie with his friends. Did I mention we were the only customers in the restaurant? Their Phở is good but not good enough for me to endure their awful service. Never coming back. In fact, we’re staying away from Malden Center Asian restaurants altogether. Read my reviews on Oppa and All Seasons Table which are all on the same street.

Ambience appears to be an Asian mom & pop restaurant. Food is really good and it doesn’t cost too much. Phở is noodle soup that is great on cold days.

Extremely disrespectful way of talking to customers. They yell first and ask questions later. Do not order.

Took 22 minutes after the estimated delivery time to arrive. They said it was busy. But the phở broth needed to be heated up by the time it arrived. The phở was good. The spring rolls were not. There was very little chicken and the shrimp tasted like it had been frozen.

The only phở I’d ever order for delivery. I usually get the create-your-own phở with steak, flank, brisket and tendon and then go nuts loading up with the fresh basil(you get a big branch of it, fresh-picked), onions, lime and peppers. The rare steak is sliced super thin and is rare and juicy, it’s delicious, and the brisket is just right, too. Comes with a TON of broth and noodles, sprouts, and hoisin, and always very hot; I live close by so that might have something to do with it. Good aromatic beef broth, not oversalted at all and flavorful! The roast duck yellow noodle soup was very tasty, too, and the chicken noodle soup is great if you’ve got a cold… the poached chicken has the perfect velvety texture. Also go for the iced tea with condensed milk and tapioca pearls… sugary but worth it. Atmosphere is a little lacking(it looks like a diner inside and the TV is always on and loud) but since they offer delivery it’s no problem for me.

Two stars for this place is already being generous. Coming from California, I know what good phở is by trying vietnamese restaurant in the Orange County. I KNOWMYPHO. I got my phở to go and I was disappointed that the soup was lukewarm. They packed the raw beef with the noodles so the noodle was kind of bloody. To me, that was disgusting. When I got home, I had to cook everything just to make sure I don’t get food poisoning or something from the phở. The place looks kind of run down and creepy too. I mean, I don’t expect much, but at least turn on some lights? It was kind of dark in there because they were using natural lighting in the restaurant. I also ordered vietnamese crack coffee. I was expecting crack coffee… but I saw the server preparing the coffee for me… He got the coffee from the kitchen, then added 2 spoonfuls of sugar, a spoon of condensed milk, and water… That is not how you make vietnamese crack coffee! It costs $ 3.00. I can get much better coffee from Starbucks for less than that. I don’t think I will ever come back to this restaurant. The people working are not even vietnamese. That says a lot about how authentic the food is…

The other day I was craving phở and did not want to travel far from my apartment so I decided to give Phở 99 a try! Stepping foot in the restaurant, I did not want to want to dine inside the restaurant due to the gloomy feeling that I felt. I think they are trying to save money on the electricity so they did not turn on all the lights inside the restaurant. I ordered the large bowl of phở with beef balls to-go and it turned out $ 11.50. It was not worth it. I would rather eat instant noodles at home :(The broth was luke warm and the broth was too salty. There was too much star anis and cinnamon flavor and it did not taste authentic to me. In a separate box, they stuffed the raw beef with the noodles. I was afraid that I was going to get food poisoning from eating the phở noodles with the raw beef juices all over it. When I got home I had to microwave every thing to heat it up. So getting to-go ended up not being convenient at all… –__–
