So if you are a fan or have out of town visitors who want to experience an authentic hot dog Walters is your place. The custom blend of meat and spices they put into a hot dot is not quite like any other, and if you are craving that perfectly balanced bite of succulent sausage. This is a great place that has been around for almost 100 years!

I have passed by this place over hundred times. However, today, I actually stopped and parked my car and bought hot dogs(single hot dog) and sweet potato waffle fries from this historical place. On the contrary to what I had expected, hot dogs were not oily and simply delicious. Fries were good, too. Seating at the back was nice and pleasant. I will certainly return and try other items on the menu.

Been going here for over a quarter of a century, and it’s as good as it gets! It’s no wonder it creates lines around the neighborhood! No matter how long that line is, I will wait, because it is worth it! It is by far the best hot dog I have ever eaten! The center sliced dog on their crispy bun with their homemade mustard/relish keeps you salivating for more! Simply amazing!

Italy is the place to get pizza. Walter’s is the place to get hot dogs.

Q: How does one review an institution? A: Same as any other review. Q: But clearly you are leading the reader down a path, like this review is going to be something special. A: No I’m not. Q: Yes you are. A: Are we really doing this? Q: I’m the Q… I should be asking the questions. Ughgh It’s a wonder I write any reviews when I have THAT to contend with. Once again, Restaurant Hunter on FIOS1 did me right. Saw this on a segment, realize it has been in existence for over 1700 years and knew I had to try it. I don’t eat many hot dogs in a year. I don’t count those crazy little red Filipino ones that madam likes to fry up or put in sketti. And I am from the Chicago AREA, so I grew up eating really good hot dogs. So I haven’t had any burning desire to eat dogs here in NY. I get my fill from Portillos every year or so back home. Gray’s Papaya has some decent dogs here in the city, but I don’t crave them. Now Walter’s? I can get used to these. I can crave these. The mustard is the bomb. Cutting the hot dog down the middle? I’m sold. The flat, semi toasted bun? Dayumm. Or maybe It’s not toasted, I don’t care. I wasn’t even done with my first one before I wanted a second one. Sometimes places like this are all hype, or a bunch of crazy locals. But it was damm good. Fries were great. Sweet potato fries were great. Root beer float was great. The people were really nice. I really love places like this that live up to their well deserved rep. I wish I found it sooner, but am glad I did find it. I’ll be back. And they’re open YEARROUND! I see a hot dog in my future in… say… late November. And, much sooner too. As for you? Q: Will it be the best hot dog you ever ate? A: Now how the f would I know that? Q: I’ll ask the questions around here. A: That was a statement, not a question. Q: This interview is over. A: ??? what interview!!! — ukeme

I don’t get it, people line up for hot dogs that aren’t really that good served up by a bunch of rude kids with a couple of exceptions of course, well, not so much rude as seemingly convinced that they are stars or something because of the attention payed to these strange tasting sausages, definitely not hot dogs, Sabretts and Nathan’s are hot dogs, these things are not. The fries are good, but the prices are outrageous, as close to $ 3 that it makes no difference for a hot dog that you can’t even get sauerkraut on, strange place with strange customers. But good for«Walter», the P.T. Barnum of hot dogs. I’ll stick with Sabretts from a cart personally.

This is a review for the food truck, and — full disclosure — I only ordered sweet potato tater tots. And the guy was nice, so I’m giving an extra star. BUT — eight teeny-tiny sweet potato tater tots were $ 3.75, and I tipped an extra quarter, which means I paid fifty cents per teeny-tiny tater tots. Which someone had mistakenly forgotten to salt.(To put it into perspective, a sixteen ounce bag of sweet potato tater tots at Trader Joes costs $ 2.45, and that’s probably at least five times as many.) Not okay, Walter and your hot dogs! I feel thoroughly ripped off.

Waited in like for less than 15 min. Once we ordered the food came out quickly. We grabbed a picnic table out back and had a great meal. The order: Double hot dog — 5 Single hot dog — 5 Potato puffs — 5 Curly fries –4.5 French fries — 4 Didn’t have one this time, but the half vanilla and half chocolate shake is worth it. Also great place to bring the kids or pups :)

I don’t like hot dogs. But that because I never had a real hot dog until I tried Walters. This place is such a novelty, and now I know why. There is nothing quite like it. The taste of these hot dogs are in a league of their own, and literally changed the way I think of hot dogs. Just. Go get one. Then you will realize why the lines are always the way they are.

Best hot dog I’ve ever had. Perfect split dog. Nice soft bun. Ample parking. Avoid the Potato Puffs. Expensive and not that good.

1. Hot Dogs are delicious. They’re split, and fried in butter. And the buns are toasted, instead of steamed. No Cole slaw or chili available on the dogs. Only ketchup & mustard, and the mustard is like a Grey Poupon kind, not American bright yellow mustard. 2. New England Clam Chowder is heavenly! Dip your hot dogs into it, too. These were the instructions from the cashier lady taking my order through the window. Very good advice! 3. Coffee Milk Shake is quite good. Tastes like a chocolate milkshake at first but the with each swallow the coffee flavors reside at the end of every palette tongue cleaning, as I’d slurp through the straw some more.

It’s a good hotdog. I thought the house mustard has relish in it. I asked for it when ordering so I’m not sure why there wasn’t any relish on the dog. Definitely do a double dog. A single is small. Curly fries were as good as others say. The shake was obviously made with a good quality ice cream. I think they make the ice cream here. I am so partial to an all-beef frank, but this hotdog is good. It’s a national historic marker, so that was worth the trip alone.

Ever since I was a child, we’ve stopped at Walter’s for hot dogs and fries every few months. A year or so ago the family who owns this cute stand updated it. Now the line flies and many customers eat at a picnic area in back in nice weather. The dogs still are delicious! Typical order: A double — you really need a double — with extra mustard. This tasty mustard/relish combo, which you can buy by the jar at Walter’s, is the key to this amazing hot dog. Add an order of curly fries or sweet potato waffle fries and, for a treat, an old-fashioned chocolate egg cream or one of the day’s special thick shakes, like mint chocolate chip. Then we eat our hot dogs in our car, just like we did 30 years ago. Walter’s gets super-busy on weekends and parking on Palmer Avenue can be tough. But try it!

The line was long, the order was delivered incorrectly(forgot the relish, even though it was read back to me correctly) and the dogs, while good, did not live up to the 20 minute wait. But — the egg cream was terrific, a d being that no place serves egg creams any more, I will happily stand in line again

We stopped here for lunch on our way to up to The Cape and had an okay lunch. Décor: So, this really doesn’t apply, other than the place having a distinctly Chinese appearance, as you can only order from the window and then either take away your food or eat at their picnic tables. However, the picnic area is actually pretty nice. There are a handful of tables, all shaded, in a mulched area with trash cans available. The trees help to block the street traffic so it ends up being kind of enjoyable. The line can get a bit long during the standard lunch times though, so be advised. Bathroom: They do have a bathroom and it is pretty basic. Staff: The cashier was friendly and the other staff was semi-quick making the food. I had to wait a bit longer than expected but there was a very large order in front of me. Food: I am a big, BIG hotdog fan so my standards are pretty high… this place doesn’t exactly fit the bill. They must use some kind of proprietary hotdog because it doesn’t taste like a «normal» one — perhaps it is a big porky or something. Anyway, I’ve certainly had better — everyone else there, mostly locals, seemed to be delighted by the taste, so it’s probably just me. The curly fries were very good though! Value: It is about what you’d expect to pay for a roadside hotdog stand. If we ever find ourselves driving through the area again we probably would not get off the LIE for another meal.
