Excellent restaurant! Chef is amazing with the choices. Loved it. We had duck, pork belly and the crêpe — all superior!

This place legitimately deserves the 5 star rating. There are REALLY limited options in Mammoth, and to be honest, most of the restaurants there are decent at best, and everything is wayyyy overpriced. Skadi is wonderful, and not just compared to the rest of Mammoth restaurants — I’m from LA, so I have a better frame of reference than just Mammoth cuisine, and I had one of the best meals I’ve had in years(in LA or anywhere) at Skadi. The place is tiny but beautiful, very clean, very Scandinavian style. The servers are very professional and attentive, and no detail is overlooked. They have an open kitchen so you can see the chef working his magic. What we ate: Mushroom soup to start(so amazing, we literally licked the bowl) Salmon(delicious and cooked PERFECTLY) Pork belly(also wonderful) Lemon panna cotta(tangy and tasty) Skadi may seem pricy, but it’s funny, because if you look at the other«trendy» restaurants in Mammoth, you’ll notice the entrees there are maybe $ 5 cheaper, and the cuisine you’re getting is amateur compared to Skadi. If you’re eating out in town and you appreciate wonderful food made with impeccable attention to detail, you gotta go to Skadi. NOTE: This is not a place to bring your little kids or a large group looking to get rowdy. This is ideal for a date night or dinner with a small group of friends(they have one table on a loft which looks like it seats maybe 8 max). The ambiance, menu, and service is geared towards adults who want to have a quiet relaxed meal with good food and good wine. NOTE: Reserve way ahead. We got VERY lucky because there was a last-minute 9:30pm cancellation and I texted to request to be put on a waiting list for cancellations. However, typically, they’re booked solid on weekends.

Every year we go to Mammoth for my husband’s birthday. This year we decided to find a sitter and go have a proper sit down grown-up dinner with our friends and were told to check out Skadi. I’d like to preface this by saying EVERYONE in Mammoth is nice.(Except for the guy driving a truck behind me while driving down Minaret tailgating me and expecting me to drive 100MPH on black ice. You, sir, are a category one Grade A, asshole. And I bet it felt rally good to speed past me and had to look me face to face when I caught up with you at the Main Street light. But I digress.) I have not met one angry soul in Mammoth. You guys are so rad. But the people who work at Skadi are top shelf and the food is next level. My only regret was that we didn’t have more people with us. Our party of four all ordered different appetizers and main course so we could maximise our sampling. There was not a single bite that was disappointing. I was sad when it was over. I look forward to many more years of birthday dinners at Skadi. Next year when they expand the space we will come with more people and eat EVERYTHING. Attainable goals for 2017.

Great service. Very nice food. Crème brûlée was excellent! It’s a 4−½ star rating compared to major city dining, but a 5 for Mammoth.

Best dining experience(hands down) in Mammoth! Could be the best dining experience in life(and I’ve been to some pretty amazing places). There were five of us and we all were raving about the food, the wine, the service, the chef, the ambiance, etc. It’s a very unique, niché place. You would never know by the looks from outside or ever see it driving around town. It truly is a hidden gem! My friend found this place through Unilocal so I can only pay back by giving my blessing here too. Go enjoy the best food(we had salmon, scallops, lamb, chicken, and a variety of amazing desserts).

Went for first time last night. Very good. The restaurant is very small which allows the staff to make everything perfect. Food is excellent.

Had dinner here last week during the huge snow storm that was getting hit in Mammoth. We walked in early(5:15pm) hoping we were early enough to get a table. They were booked with reservations and told us unfortunately they couldn’t seat us. But then the owner called one of his regulars who had a reso to see what time she would be coming in and determined he could fit us in. He let us know we had an hour and a half to dine — no problem! That is great customer service. Food was amazing also! Overall, this place has it all. I will definitely go back next time I’m in mammoth. Thanks Skadi for squeezing us in on a busy snowy night and giving us an amazing meal and wine.

Wow ! I can’t wait to come back on our next trip to Mammoth. Ian(the owner) has not skipped a beat, the food is as fabulous as ever. Loved the intimate setting, and texting reservations/response time is spot on. Ask for John G, he’s a fantastic host who’s knows the menu by heart.

My family tried Skadi based on the excellent Unilocal reviews, and it did not disappoint. The food, ambiance, location, staff and wine selection were excellent. I’ve dined at some of the best restaurants in New York, London, Las Vegas, Sydney and Los Angeles and this had to be one of my top 5 memorable food experiences. We were able to get a table on the busy MLK weekend through a last minute cancellation. Our server Jon greeted us at the door and explained Skadi’s concept and menu, he was very knowledgable about every dish, as well as wine pairing. We started with the mushroom crepés, and smoked trout. They were both delicious, but the real treat was the entrés: roasted duck breast, lamb, scallops and Norwegian salmon. Our table went family style; we tried a bit of each dish. The scallops melted in the mouth and were my favorite. For dessert we had lemon panna cotta, cremé brulee, petít four, and macadamia nut ice cream. What a great way to cap off an amazing day of skiing in Mammoth. We will definitely be back!

We were in Mammoth for our anniversary and Skadi was recommended by a friend who lives there. We were not disappointed! The food was over the top and our server was awesome. We will definitely go back the next time we are in Mammoth and highly recommend it.

Unexpectedly good food in Mammoth, which isn’t a fine dining mecca. We had a delightful meal here and cannot fault the service or food. My only complaint is that the ventilation system is sorely lacking. We enjoyed our meal in a haze of seared salmon and returned home absolutely stinking. Ian and all, anything you can do about the odor? Otherwise, a brilliant restaurant that really delivers on all fronts.

This is definitely a very unique experience for mammoth! It’s a tiny place, in a dark alley, which was so exciting to find and yet close to the village and also has parking… the food was extremely fresh and quality! The service is very sweet and polite! the Chef is actually excited to do his job and enjoys coming out and making sure you are happy with your food! Very personal! Great choice, we will definitely come back here, our next trip! We had their lamb special, wow we were licking our fingers!

I went there last night and it was fantastic. My first time there but I wanted to try it based on Unilocal reviews. It is hands down the best food in mammoth. I was greeted at the door by the chef and owner, Ian who is very welcoming. The restaurant is very very small and cozy. There are only about 4 tables plus small bar area so you need a reservation. A very creative and eclectic menu. My only issue is that most everything is meat and while this is great with me, I don’t know if there are enough options for my wife who is vegetarian. A must for a great meal in mammoth!!!

Where do I start? That was at the very least, the best meal I have had since my honeymoon. It was possibly the best meal I have ever had in my entire life The restaurant is gorgeous, with an open kitchen, modern clean but also warm and inviting with a touch of ski lodge. The hamachi was butter. The venison was cooked perfectly rare. The duck, my god the duck, was the most delicious duck I have ever had, with perfectly crispy skin and moist melt-in-my-mouth flesh. Dessert(Meyer lemon panna cotta and macadamia nut and vanilla bean parfait) was fantastic, and Chef Ian had some fantastic little extras for us. The wine list is full of reasonable but incredible wines. We had a crisp brut rose, a Pinot rose which was delicious with the smallest hint of residual sugar, a very amazing Zinfandel recommended by Chef, and a late harvest Viognier with caramel and fig. Thank you John and Chef Ian, for a most amazing meal!

I spent my birthday here and boy was it special. The chef and staff really went out of their way to make it special. Even though they ran out of the foie gras they found a little extra and made the dish. The soup and salad were great. The salmon entrée amazing! This is a definite must go and is also open late.

Fabulous food! Everything that I have tried so far is outstanding. I really hope that they continue to rotate the menu options so that I can frequent this place more often to try new dishes. Service is excellent as well. Definitely recommend booking in advance.

This was the best dining experience I have had in years… yes, years. Not only is Ian(the head chef) an incredible chef, but he has hand selected the best staff as well. My husband and I felt pampered from the moment we walked through the doors. We sat at a great little table next to the door and after about ten minutes the staff noticed that I had put my down jacket back on to stay warm so they approached us and asked if we would like to move to a warmer table. I was shocked and so grateful that they would go so far out of their way, without my having a say a word. My husband had the duck and I ordered the salmon, both were excellent. We shared a bottle of wonderful italian wine but were too full to try any dessert. Ian made my wedding cake though so I know what this man is capable of, and if you ever get the chance to try his carrot cake, it is the best I have ever had. This was a five-star dining experience and we will be going back many more times this season.

Another win for Mammoth! A local gem that is sure to make you come back for the amazing food and even better ambiance. Make sure to get the seats overlooking the kitchen and watch Ian do his magic! We enjoyed the Chicken with Porcini Mushroom Risotto and the Pork Belly Confit and Loin. Wonderful wine list to go along. Cheers to Ian on a successful new Skadi.

The best meal in the eastern sierras. A hidden gem tucked inside an unassuming area across the street from everything. First impressions are always important, my family was met with a warm greeting and the service was phenomenal from that moment to the moment I stepped back out the door. Attentive staff and Chef Ian is as personable as they come. We shared a great conversation on hunting and the local wildlife when he came up to greet the table during our meal. I ordered the special entrée venison(pictured). The art is in the details. Everything was perfectly prepared and presented. The meat was so tender it melted and it was complimented by an amazing variety of flavors and textures, keeping my palate excited for the next bite. My family couldn’t say enough about their meals as well. They have a fine variety of beers, it’s easy to compliment any entrée with the list they provide. I had the Icelandic toasted porter. Deserts are a craft of beauty! The crème brûlée was silky smooth and not overpowering. It had the ability to fill my tastebuds with joy and seconds later disappear leaving only the hint of fruit and vanilla. The restaurant came highly recommended from the locals in town and they were right about everything, it’s not often people can say so many great things about an establishment and then you are still blown away when you arrive.

Summary: All 5’s here. All pro’s. All Plus signs. This is an awesome restaurant, I can’t wait for it to be successful! +Cozy restaurant ambiance +Exclusive?(Call ahead for reservations!) +Great service, attentive waiter +EXCELLENT Food! +Perfect spot for date night or to impress someone :) When I started frequenting Mammoth restaurants, I began on a quest to eat at all of them. I was a bit disappointed when the previous Skadi location closed, as that was one that I thought would be forever missing from my list. When I caught a glimpse of activity in this industrial park location, I was intrigued(as I knew Mammoth Brewing moved out several months prior). I am happy to report that Skadi reopened here just in time to be the last(and best) restaurant on my ‘Mammoth Eats’ list. I opened with the Venison sausage appetizer, which came recommended to me by a coworker. A little unique to have blueberries and corn cakes as a side to sausage, but all of it was delicious. The Roast chicken breast was extremely moist & tender, with a light flaky exterior– I don’t know how he did it. The mushrooms were juicy(I didn’t know that was possible?), and the risotto was very flavorful. I didn’t have room for dessert, but I was impressed by the espresso, and I hear the crème brulée is legendary. Super glad I found this place again. While I couldn’t ever be a regular here(the bill for the evening put a good dent in my wallet), I would recommend this place to everyone. The chef/owner, Ian, is well known in town, and is excited to reopen«his restaurant». It’s no cookie-cutter business, and he’ll be expanding from 5 tables to 11 or so pretty soon(I hope!)
