Previous commenters have nailed it on the head. Interacting with the staff at Peebles was lackluster at best. From the complete lack of acknowledgement from the ladies in the clothing department, to the mad scientist in the make-up/perfume area, my trip to Peebles felt like a social experiment gone wrong. Management appears to lack offices from which to conduct business, and it seems the employees don’t really want to work there. During my visit I overheard two different conversations regarding whether or not employees needed to show up for that day’s shift. While Peebles has a wide selection of clothing, and many of them appear to be of good quality, there isn’t much going for this store. From the exterior, the entire strip looks dilapidated and forgotten. Inside, service is lacking. The dressing rooms looked like the inside of a walk in closet. Clothing was strewn haphazardly about the rooms in heaping piles because the return racks were overflowing and didn’t appear to have been touched in days. The entire shopping strip needs a facelift. Hopefully someday this area will be fixed up.

Why does this place still exist? I felt like I was in Steven kings movie The Langoliers where everything’s in the past in some weird time warp. It’s TJ Maxx clothing for Kohls prices. I will say the store was very clean given the crappy shopping center it’s in. It’s OLD.

Wow this was an experience. And not in a good way. The people working at the store are weirdos. I felt like I was on a reality show and I was waiting for the«ah ha» moment, but never came. The prices are good but try not to talk to the people.

I like Peebles … but it isn’t for everyone. It’s a department store chain based in rural southern VA that caters to the small and medium-sized towns in the south and central US. Hence, the Manassas store is(I think) their only DC-area location. And while some of the casual wear is rather«rural» influenced, you can get many of the same brands of business casual and dress wear as you would find at Kohl’s or JCP at a fraction of the price. They are, actually, much like JCP used to be, always running good sales and specials. Yesterday I was able to secure several VH polos for $ 10 a pop. The wife found a top she loved for less that $ 10. Store is a total time warp — think 1980’s ruralish department store — and part of their business model is pushing stuff like free magazines at checkout. But the service is friendly and the store is clean … but bland and a bit depressing, admittedly. If you can look past that, it’s a good place to find some deals.

I had never even heard of Peebles until my sister got me a shirt there in June. I went to the store to exchange it for a different size and bought a bunch of polos and a pair of shorts as well. The prices were fanstastic, but the place looks like suicide note.
