When I first walked in the receptionist handed me forms and told me to please fill them out fast so that she could get me right in. Initially I came for a scratched cornea from my lenses. I was covered for the visit and payed $ 15 co pay. On my follow up visit, I decided to get a prescription for glasses and contact lenses. She charged me another $ 15 co pay, $ 75 for the script for glasses and she wanted $ 300 for lens script. When I questioned this refraction fee, the receptionist got hostile and said that I should always read what I’m signing that nobody reads what they’re signing. When I first called they told me I was covered by my insurance. It would have been nice for them to verbally warn me of their billing process. I paid the $ 15 co pay and $ 75 for the glasses prescription. I refused the $ 300 lens prescription. Of all the eye Doctors that I’ve previously been to I’ve never had to pay for prescriptions. I’m sorry that I took the lens prescription

I waited until I completed my initial appointment and follow-​up visit before writing my review, and now that both are out of the way, I am very happy to give 5+ stars for my experience with Dr. Steinberg.
I should first mention that I am very lucky to have excellent insurance through my employer — some frustrations of other reviewers seem to stem from more insurance-​related problems, but please do not let this dissuade you from seeing this doctor.
Even if I lost my insurance entirely, I would pay out-​of-​pocket to remain a patient of Dr. Steinberg. Here’s why:
For months I’ve been complaining about a variety of seemingly non-​related medical-​ish problems. I’m not a spring chicken, so some of these I chalked up to being a little old and a little passed it. (Cue: Louis CK’s ‘your knee’s worn out’.) My GP knew my complaints and gripes, had 10 years of medical history to work with, but never suggested I see a specialist about any of them. (hmmm, time for a follow-​up review for the GP…)
On my FIRST visit to Dr. Steinberg (for my annual eye exam), she completed the exam, heard my gripes, and recommended I see a Rheumatologist as my eye problems could be related to the other gripes. Turns out — they are. Turns out — the Rheumatologist she recommended was equally as brilliant as herself. And now, just 6 weeks later, I am feeling the best I have in MONTHS, maybe even years. True, it could have as easily resulted that the problems were not related. Regardless, the fact is this doctor took the time to listen to all my concerns and formulate an action plan to deal with them.
I wish Dr. Steinberg could specialize in every body part, but I suppose that isn’t a realistic request. So I will continue to see her for my eyes, and thank my lucky stars I found her. She is a true diagnostician and compassionate medical professional.

Dr. Steinberg is a very competent, caring, articulate doctor. I have not had any major treatment needs. However she was reassuring and extremely helpful when I have had minor eye problems. I find it easy to schedule an appointment and her assistant Anna is always cheerful and helpful. Her office facility is comfortable, clean and convenient. I would highly recommend Dr. Steinberg.

Though they warn you, it is true that she bills differently than others. There is a refraction fee of $ 75 that your insurance won’t cover. They also won’t give you any prescription until you pay. So if you use a HSA, it will be a month or more until you get a bill and pay it and they release your prescription. The prescription, however seems good

Dr Steinberg was thorough and meticulous in treating my unusual eye condition. She was not afraid to shift her approach when the initial treatment was not effective. Above all, I sensed that she cared and her joy when my eye finally responded was palpable.
Anna manages patients with charm and efficiency.
Note that the waiting room can be crowded and it does make sense to call and see whether you should arrive later than your scheduled appointment time.

Amazing! I can’t believe she takes my insurance. My old MD would make me pay the full amount cash and then I would have to fight with insurance company to get a few dollars back.

Excellent eye doctor. Very thorough exam. She’s knowledgeable, patient and answered all my questions. I highly recommend her. Her receptionist is also pleasant and helpful.

Just had the most comprehensive and professional eye exam ever. I highly recommend Dr. Steinberg if you’re looking for an ophthalmologist.
