This was always my go to place for salads. Always loved it, even though it was pricey. But ever since the new management, prices got even higher and the food has gotten pretty bad. Been there twice since the new management and the first time around i got a gpa sandwhich. Which was one of my favorites. Thought maybe it was an off day because it just tasted off. So gave it try with a my favorite salad today. Lettuce was stale af and chicken tasted really bad. And this was bad already considering i pay a pretty hefty price for a salad. My bro also got a philly cheese steak and he couldn’t even finish it. It was that bad and barely any steak. I will say the staff has gotten better. But overall, probably not the best place to go if you want tasty food.

Shout out to the salad crew ! Never had anything from the grill but I’m sure it’s good. They work really hard and everything looks so good. Salad is on point though. Little pricey but oh well!

I actually prefer their breakfasts to lunch. The paninis on display are decent but not made fresh for you, they are made in the morning and sit in the case. Breakfasts are totally made to order, and it’s not busy in the morning, whereas if you go for lunch the line might be the length of the whole shop. Mostly just a takeout place, but there’s two or three tables that remind me of a Chinese restaurant style setup. Tons of options for either meal of the day! If you get a breakfast meal it comes with a free small coffee. 10% military discount! Yay: D

OOOOF! where do I start? Could it be the over-priced salads? or perhaps the stale sweets? no, let me start with the staff and their nasty attitudes. If I am spending $ 10 on a salad, you better not roll your eyes at me because you forgot to put in the ingredients I ordered(marked on a paper). I asked for broccoli, it will be .50 cents extra, ok… give me some broccoli. Two puny sprigs go into my basket of spinach. I asked can I have some more broccoli please? She huffs and says«that’s the portion we serve!» Really? A quarter a sprig? GTFO and that’s exactly the look I gave her. She threw a brown sprig in and gave me a smirk like” happy?” I wanted to just walk out, and I should have, but I didn’t cause I was H-U-N-G-R-Y. So I grabbed my salad, went to check out, where the cashier sucked her teeth and sighed the entire time she rang customers up. Is that really what you get paid to do? It isn’t to collect money from food sales with a smile? Here is the worst part, and this is my fault. After the first, second and third time of experiencing this horrible behavior and service from various employees(including the manager), I went back a fourth time. Why? Cause I was H-U-N-G-R-Y and there aren’t many options near CCNY. There was a long-ass line and only two people making salads, come on now, get it together. To make matters worse, everyone was given this bad attitude. Energy travels and negative vibes were ever so present. The people in the line in front were contemplating leaving because they didn’t want to deal with the attitude that awaited them. They handed their sheet with ingredients checked for their salad. Not a single«hi» «hello» «welcome’ «have a good day». NOTHING. I’m SO done with this place. Don’t waste your time and energy. Just go next door to café one, where you are always treated with a smile and they will even learn your name and ask you about your day. Support the ma & pop not the corporate crap.

This place is extremely close to where I live so I keep trying it. Every time I walk in(around 8:30 — 9:30am) there is one other person and neither of us have had our order taken. The short order cook is hustling, working hard. He seems to only work on one order at a time and seems to be filling all the orders for people who aren’t in the store. It always takes at least 15 minutes for a bacon egg and cheese. The cashier was nice/chatty/remembered the free coffee they advertise on their sign… once, only once. but I haven’t seen her again. Normally you get a person on the phone or watching the cooking. Annoyed to be there. Today was the last straw as they had TWO people at the front desk doing nothing and still one guy on the grill. He was making an omelette with pickles. Weird but whatever. I order my bacon egg and cheese(with an extra egg, so I get two) $ 6.00. I’m on the bus eating it and all of the sudden my BEC tastes like pickle and there’s even a little chunk in there. Whatever I’m not going to die. It’s just a constant lack of attention to detail and annoyed staff, along with 2x pricing for the same sandwich at most other places. I’m done.

Unfortunately the food is great but not matched with stellar service. The sandwich line is perpetually confused and last time I went there it took almost 15 minutes or more to get my food. Eventually they handed me a sandwich that was supposed to go out for a delivery. If they can get their line sorted during the lunch rush, this would be a go-to spot for me. I am going to give it another try, but hoping for a better experience.

Ordered from here a few times. They’re only a block and a half away and I’ve never had an order come in less than an hour. They’ve done small things like forgetting the cheese on my omelette and stuff like that(grub hub usually refunds me). Today, however, was the last straw. My order took over an hour again but that’s not the problem(at 8am on a Saturday they can’t be THAT busy but whatever, it’s expected). They got my order wrong and no apologies. First, I ordered an orange vitamin water. The delivery guy says«we didn’t have that flavor so you got something else.» Just like that. No apology, no checking to see if it’s ok. Not even an indication of what they subbed. I didn’t even think about it too much because I was digging in the bag(which is what prompted him to notify me or I wouldn’t have heard anything) because they jammed 3 – 4 plates into one small bag and things were sideways in strewn about. Then I open my order and instead of home fries, I get bland, undercooked French fries with my order. Yay I didn’t bother calling because I’ve called several times in the past and can never get through or talk to not nice people. I won’t bother ordering from here again. Too many great places to eat in this neighborhood to even give this place a second thought.

My review for this place has drastically changed, for the better. You’ll see from the rant that is my previous review how much I didn’t approve of Subsconscious, but they’ve made big changes recently. The most important change is an owner/management turnover. That’s great, because the previous owner and management was truly horrible. I noticed they were doing some physical improvements, so I stopped in the other day to give them another try. The service has been improved greatly, and while the food was always ok, I do believe it tasted better this time around. It looks like they stripped down the original massive menu a bit, and my brother mentioned the cheesesteak he had was different(and better) than it previous was. My go-to was and is a sausage, egg and cheese sandwich on an english muffin, w/a side of hash browns. It’s like a much better McDonald’s version. I’ll have to try more menu items now that I’m down w/giving them my business again. So far, so good…

A place with college-themed sandwiches that closes at 9. Right, because college students opt for an early dinner and are tucked in by 9. I guess everyone here is lazy. When you get there, no one will pay you any mind. When you finally get someone’s attention, make sure you explicitly ask for lettuce, tomatoes, onions, etc on your mediocre sandwich, because no one will ask(like every other sandwich place in Manhattan), they’ll make it and wrap it up in the back, and you’ll be disappointed.

Dead fly in empty salad bar basin. 2-day expired«homemade» macaroni salad on display that looked spoiled and dried out. Purchased fresh macaroni salad, which was way past al dente and so underseasoned I doubt they salted the pasta water at all. The cooks do not know the recipes here. Specialty sandwiches are listed with their ingredients on a large board, yet they consistently leave out ingredients. Last time I unwrapped my sub at the register and requested that the cook add 2 missing ingredients but was not feeling as ballsy today and later disappointed to find no peppers. Also the board says«fresh turkey,» at 1 point claiming it’s roasted in-house, but it tastes and feels like mid-range turkey roll to me. The menu claims FREEDELIVERY($ 8 minimum within 3 block area)($ 12 minimum for all other areas), yet I live 3.5 blocks away and they refused to deliver a $ 15 order to me, not because the delivery guy wasn’t in or something, but the manager said not to deliver to my street and wouldn’t get on the phone. I’m never wasting my money here again.

It’s cheap(I’m used to Midtown prices so what do I know) but you get what you pay for. I paid $ 5.50 and had a grilled chicken sandwich and it was just meh. Nothing special. The meat tasted kind of weird — like it wasn’t cooked quite all the way and it was soft and kind of squishy. Very strange texture. The veggies on my sandwich were gross — the kind that I expect on the dollar menu at McDonald’s. They take Level Up, which is nice, so I got a discount on my order, and they give a 10% discount to CCNY students and staff. I’ll try out other area delis before coming back here. Fortunately the cafeteria at CCNY — during the regular academic year — serves better food! Update: breakfast sandwiches are pretty good!

Worst worst worst — I ordered from them off of GrubHub. They called me to say that they did not have the turkey burger that I ordered. Ok, no Problem. So I changed my order. Two hour deliver time for a sandwich??? When my order was finally delivered it was wrong, so I called to get it redelivered. One hour later the redelivery was still not here. I called the restaurant and the person answering the phone said«oh yeah we had a question about your order, I was about to call you» ummmm an hour after I called you for redelivery — and others 45 minuets after that my food was redelivered; not surprised that the reorder was wrong AGAIN I was so Frustrated that I called GRUBHUB. They tried to have them pick up the order and refund me. The manager at the restaurant denied that the food was made wrong and hung up on the poor GRUBHUB rep do not order from here. Waste of $ and the food is not even that good

Horrible service, mediocre food and not the«greatest prices» like people say. For what they offer(quality and service) it’s extremely overpriced. Last time I was there it took them over 30 minutes to realize they hadn’t even started my sub and the 3 people that ordered after me ended up leaving before me. Go to campus deli and order a sub there, way cheaper and taste way better in my opinion.

My wife’s favorite spot for quick morning coffee. The coffee is cheap and quick, but not as creamy and strong as I thought. The menu is enormous, though some sandwiches are just above average, some are not delicious(like the egg salad and tuna sandwiches). A little pricey I’d say, but not bad for a quick bite on the run. As a bonus: The staffs are efficient and quick at their work, though they look a little bored and not really welcoming. At least you get your food real quick.

Stopped by after work to get 2 Philly cheese steaks. And they gave me onions, peppers, cheese and a misery of steak, I’m not a vegan, I’m a hungry man, and now upset and hungry. BTW we had to add our own steak avoid the Philly cheese.

I really hate to be that guy, but i ordered breakfast and got it 2 hours later(10:45−12:45) had to microwave perfect but cold pancakes. By the time I got my breakfast it was lunch time. Had to work my food down really fast. Ruined a start to a productive Saturday morning. Also, why is it I always order orange pineapple juice and I’m always brought orange? Like the same mistake 4 different times. Get it together, guys!

The food is so so. It’s long lines are mostly because it’s the only place like that around. I like the salad bar. You can get a lot of toppings on a make your own salad for about 8 or 9 $. Way cheaper than downtown. You’ll definitely save some money and get a decent bite if you pick the right thing off the menu. But… The service is really bad! The people are rude pretty much every time I go in there. They give you an attitude when you just ask for food. They talk to each other and on the phone until they’re «ready to ring you up». I always dread going in there. Unfortunately, unless I cook at home it’s the only place to get a salad or hogue that cheap and better than a bodega.

This is the place where City College students and faculty go for salads and subs but its SO expensive. Honestly just walk two blocks and go to Suhail’s Deli instead. Over here I paid $ 11 for a sandwich and greasy, soggy fries. This place is SUPEROVERPRICED. I don’t mind paying premium, but I definitely expect fries made of gold with this rip off of a price. I get that its Manhattan and prices have to be a bit more pricey than usual but the quality of the food should at least match its price tag. Save your money and go elsewhere! Hope this helped~Xoxo(:

Pros: (+) Recently renovated and doubled in size (+) Wide variety of options (+) Salad bar! Cons: (-) Cashiers and guys at the grill are rude (-) Set up of the place is awkward (-) Not enough seating (-) Overpriced (-) Saw a FLY flying around inside the refrigerated area where all the cream cheese is (-) Desserts are not dated ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I used to come here before but stopped coming because the service here is horrible. The food is decent, but the service from the staff here sucks. I’d rather go to Café One next door for great service and pay an extra $ 1 for the same thing just because they give better service there. I initially stopped coming here because of the bad service and after seeing flies flying around in the refrigerated area where the cream cheese and pre-made sandwiches is at. The cheese wasn’t covered and who knows how long that fly was in there for. I came here after several months, craving pancakes. I was in hopes that this place might have changed their ways especially since they recently renovated. Boy was I wrong. The place might have improved by how it looks, but it was still the same staff. I arrived around 10:59am standing at the grill still figuring out what sides I wanted with my pancakes, sausage or bacon? Let’s go with bacon! Me: «Can I get the pancakes with a side of bacon» Guy: «Breakfast is over» Me: «What time is breakfast over?» Guy: «11:00am» Me:(I look at my phone, it now says 11:01, and the guy knows I was standing there before 11:00) Me: «It’s 11:01am…you know i’ve been standing here before 11:00am. you’re telling me you’re not going to let me order breakfast because I’ve been standing here for over 1 minute?» Guy: «Fine.(sigh) What do you want?» It would have been different if I arrived after 11:00, but I was there before 11:00. Anyways… it just wasn’t necessary. Next time I crave pancakes, I’ll just go to Jimbos, they make pretty good pancakes there.
