I took the beginners 3 week fundamentals course at Crossfit Chickasaw and fell in love. Before coming to the classes I was very intimidated and doubtful of myself. I looked around and thought there was no way I would fit in here, as I was overweight and much older than the group. I was welcomed with open arms and encouragement-not just from the great coaches but from other members. I am so happy I put my doubts aside-three weeks into the classes I saw a difference in my attitude and body! TRYIT!

My name is John Minervini, and I had an awful experience at Crossfit Chickasaw. I think you ought to know about it, so that you can spend your dollars at a better gym. I am not usually the kind of person who complains or asks for my money back, but in this case I did both. Owners Michelle Kinney and Robby Fromin listed incorrect membership prices on their website. When I noticed the charge on my credit card, I emailed them so that we could get it straightened out. No one responded to my emails for two weeks. When they finally responded, they refused either to a) honor the price listed on their website, or b) give me my money back. On top of that, they were very rude! I was a member of Crossfit X-Factor in Portland, OR, for over a year, and I had a great experience there. I am a big fan of Crossfit, and Memphis has some great Crossfit options. But buyer beware: steer clear of Crossfit Chickasaw. In my opinion, owners Michelle Kinney and Robby Fromin run their business like a couple of playground bullies. I am just grateful to be done with the whole experience.

I usually do cross-fit workouts on my own but decided to join because of a colleague who started here about 3 weeks ago. While I’ve always been skeptical of cross-fit gyms(they tend to be borderline cults) and the cross-fit games are totally ridiculous(paying to watch people workout seems to be the epitome of lazy) but that’s really another discussion, I’ve been pleasantly surprised. Michelle is great as well as the other instructors, while you will push yourself because of the group workout/competition concept, it’s not stressful(other than physically). While I like to maintain my workout régime at home, I’ll have to look into more places like this due to my work travel.
