Place was busy upon arrival. Seated within 5 min. Chips, salsa, and water was on the table within minutes. Salsa was perfect for the people who like some heat. Steak fajitas were flavorful enough with very good amount to eat. You only get three shells which is a bummer. Clean establishment. Wait staff members were decent enough.

Completely forgot about this great little spot, but remembered since El Porton closed to move across the parking lot. Food was fantastic and service was great. Drinks were also excellent. Empanadas(beef) were fantastic. Also enjoyed arroz con pollo and the quesadilla Mezcal which was packed with fresh seasoned vegetables. We will come back — even after our favorite place reopens in April.

This is my new favorite place. Not just because the food came hot, tasty and in under 8 minutes, but because the décor is lovely and the boothes are comfy. The seating is situated in a way that provides a little bit of privacy, which makes it perfect for a date or if you’re eating alone and don’t want to stand out. Plus you are given your ticket to pay at the front, so there’s no waiting. The only bad thing are the restrooms, which could use some work and are seriously outdated.

I’ve been going to El Mezcal for 13 years. I haven’t found a Mexican restaurant I prefer more than this place. The food is always great, and if you’re ever unhappy, the staff always makes it right. Everyone there has a great attitude and they understand that the point is to have a good time. Guava margaritas are wonderful and I can’t find a better taco salad anywhere! I sometimes wish they had a better wine selection.

This restaurant is fantastic. We walked in the door sat down not 15 seconds we were served warm salsa chips and dip. Good location clean and very good service so far. Food was excellent very tasty hot and fresh. The chili sauce that looks like a gravy is wonderful. I recommend this restaurant this location to all in Memphis.

Good food, great service! The shrimp fajita plate was loaded with shrimp and the cheese dip was DEE-Licious! The salsa was authentic, but a little spicy for my liking. Although, that’s what happens when you’re used to eating On the Border! I’ll be back(no Arnold Schwarzenegger voice intended)!

I went here last night for a late night craving for churros! They pretty much ruined it. I just wanted plain churros with cinnamon and sugar. They didn’t tell my boyfriend that it came with chocolate syrup and whipped cream. Which got soggy pretty fast and the churros were also cold like we got the left overs. They ruined my night.

Nothing more than your typical Americanized place. Food is ok and the service is usually decent. There are better places and there are worse. Well, there you go.

It was our first stop at a Mexican joint since moving to Memphis from Colorado. The best part of the meal was the side of pico and the chicken soup. The chile rellano and chile poblano were not edible. Both dishes completely lacked flavor. I am not even sure what cheese they used… it tasted like plastic. The batter on the poblano tasted like it was frozen for months on end or was made from play-doh. There was also abundance of oil running across the plates. The server did remove the dish from our bill and the joint did seem clean. Our journey to find awesome Mexican food in Memphis continues.

So I read some of the reviews here before I came and realized most were pretty old. I was somewhat ok with this place overall. Our waitress was rather quick with getting our order and the food came out very quickly and was delicious! We both were sitting and talking mostly so the truth is we had no major use of our waitress, she came in time to refill drinks, which really didn’t need to be done because neither of us finished them. The environment is very friendly and enjoyable. They have tvs setup, and have captions on so that you can follow easily. Again… We were here to talk mostly and enjoy each other so the truth is that we didn’t care what they had inside, as long as the food was decent. If you go, try something you haven’t had before! Burritos, fajitas, enchiladas, tapas, tacos, there’s so much that you can choose from! Give that pallet some experience! :)

I wasn’t in the mood for mexican on this particular evening, but my best friend that I have known since grade school LOVES mexican so we decided to go. The atmosphere is kinda plain in my opinion, but yet inviting. The employees are super friendly and helpful. This was my first visit, so I opted for the cheese dip as an appetizer and the shrimp quesadillas. They were amazing!!! If you ever have time to stop and visit, please do! You will not be disappointed.

Pretty good food. I met a friend here for dinner awhile back. She mentioned this place, so I was game. I’m usually a very big Mexican food lover! Although it wasn’t the best, it was definitely good. It is about a block from my house, and the margaritas are tasty! Over-all, not the best Mexican food I have ever had, but it’s cheap, close to home, and leaves me happy! ;)

I don’t crave Mexican. But sometimes my friends do, so I get dragged places. But I don’t go here kicking and screaming so that should tell you something. Their chicken tortilla soup is truly delicious and everything else I’ve tried has ranged from pretty good to so-so. Oh, and their margaritas are definitely a winner.

I like the layout and the idea of a guy and his guitar serenading the diners. However, the music is a tad annoying, the food isn’t great, the drinks are wrong and our waitress disappeared. To my understanding, a house margarita uses sweet and sour mix. A Texas style margarita nixes the mix and replaces it with fresh lime juice and adds orange liquor. A top shelf margarita uses lime juice instead of sour mix and upgrades the orange liqueur to Grand Mariner. I’m no bartender, but I’m certain the top shelf and Texas do not include sour mix. The waitress assured me that they are exactly the same and do include a sour mix base. I refuse to believe this! Aside from that… I ordered two pork tacos. The pork itself was tasty. It was served with a dish of pico that looked to be only diced tomatoes and onion. The waitress was spot on for a bit but disappeared for what seemed like an hour. The bad part was that it was after someone in our group asked for her check. She was finished eating and had an empty glass. Once the rest of our glasses and pitchers were empty, we asked the hostess to find or replace her. All in all, I would have had a better time at a different restaurant!

New to the neighborhood, decided to try out a new spot and Las Delicias is closed on Sunday. Pleasant surprise, attentive service, spicy salsa, thin crisp chips. We tried Taco salad and a burrito recommended by our server both were good. Give them a try.

I used to love El Mezcal, but after finding out that the items they label as «vegetarian» on their menu are absolutely NOT vegetarian, I’ll never return, and I was a weekly regular here before learning this. I learned that they use lard in their beans, chicken stock in their rice, and chicken stock in the red sauce they put on the bean burrito. All of the items on the«vegetarian» menu contain beans or rice, and therefore none are actually vegetarian. I’m vegan and what’s usually a safe food for vegans, guacamole, is NOT safe for vegans at El Mezcal because they put sour cream in it. I think the only menu item safe for vegans at this place is the guacamole mexicano which is a version in which the ingredients are not whipped together. As an ethical vegan, I felt really disgusted after learning I consumed sour cream in the guacamole. Also, the incorrect labeling of items as «vegetarian» is immoral. Veganism is as close to a religion that I have, but I know other religions restrict certain animal products like pork; if you put lard in your beans, as a business, you have the responsibility to disclose such information for the reason I just stated.

This is the best Mexican in Memphis. Not this chain, but this particular location. They are on a different level. Service is perfect 9 out of 10 times. Food is consistently great. Combination #5, chicken cheese n rice, and the fajitas of any kind are my top 3. I want to add to my review since I went there yesterday. The prices keep creeping up bit by bit. $ 32 for a small plate of fajitas, chicken cheese n rice, a water, and a coke is a little on the high side for Mexican food comparatively. I wasn’t very excited about that. With that being said, I will continue to go as I always have. Can’t beat this place.

Truly authentic and great portions. I love Mexican food and this is one of my go to faves. International décor and a diamond in the rough! The staff is friendly and attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu and ingredients. I think I’m in love! Lol

The food at El Mezcal is very plain, not very much flavor. The only reason I keep going is because my guy loves the nacho fajitas here. So far I had tried the chicken with rice and that is literally all you get which isnt enough if your hungry. The chile poblanos have a refrigerated taste, I do not care for. The quesadillas are soggy, but the steak with shrimp dish is so far the only thing I really liked. The shrimp were ok tasting but the steak was really good. Other than that I would recommend any other mexican place.
