Not a lot of sushi spots by this area. The sushi is pretty good. 4⁄5 I would say. I’ve ordered a few times from here. Service has been up and down really. I asked for a eel sauce on the phone and they ran my card before. Clerk would not offer to give me a half. Had to talk to the manager. Over a value to them of 15 cents. I ordered 3 rolls! Kinda ridiculous. Anyway. Not a bad place.

Food and service fantastic. Always consistent. I’m not in love the restaurants ambiance reason as to why I don’t give it 5 stars. It’s a little plain to my perception, but who am I to say what’s right and wrong, after all. All in all, I love it!

Excellent food, cold sake, and great service! I’ve tried a few different menu items and also had an omakase style meal. Each time the fish was fresh and tasty, plus they happen to carry one of my favorite sakes!

I’m saddened to say their delivery service was atrocious. I received my food 2HOURS after I had ordered, knowing the restaurant is only 5 minutes away from my house. When it started to near 2 hours, I got worried and contacted the establishment. They assured me it’s out for delivery. Finally! My food arrived only to be a wet mess. The edamame was lukewarm and my sushi — WARM and sweaty. It’s unfortunate being that I had thought positively before but what happened today was completely unacceptable.

A little japanese restaurant hidden in the mall that I have walked by dozens of times without stopping in. A choice I have come to regret. Days lost. The place itself is not very large but by the end of lunch it was full. The lunch specials are a great deal and ate served with a salad, noodles and fruit(read: watermelon). The sushi and sashimi were fresh– there is a sushi station where you can watch the sushi chef working. The place was clean, décor uninspired. The service was polite. Questions were answered and suggestions given. They have a chalkboard filled with specialty rolls and special dishes that were interesting enough to lure us back. My work orders food for take out quite a bit(who knew — my big mouth walked in raving and they had already been). The key is to check the order before you leave the restaurant. Makes for a drama free meal. Try it. Solid meal. Good prices. Nice people.

Returned again for a second time, and I just had to update my review from 4 stars to 5. I had the teriyaki salmon and it was phenomenal! The waitress was a sweetheart as always, and the food was excellent. My husband and I love the ambiance, and the fact it’s so close to home makes it THAT much better! Highly recommended!

Came here for a quick bite before heading to country walk for a orient who needed laser therapy. Service was not quick, considering I was the only patron in the restaurant. I ordered the dancing eel roll. The eel was soft and good but I was highly disappointed at not having fresh ingredients in the roll. The cucumbers wee soggy and the seaweed was elastic texture. The rice was too sticky and overall I could not enjoy the roll unless I extracted the eel from the chaos. Lesson learned– empty restaurant = lacking something

Staff is friendly and attentive. The sushi is fresh and excellent! Menu consists of your basic rolls and selections with some deliciously creative items. I especially love the Summer Salad. I can eat it Winter, Spring, & Fall as well! However, as other reviewers also noted, the ambiance leaves much to be desired. Décor is very drab and feels like you are stuck in an episode of Murder She Wrote. Pure 80s. For that I give it only 4 stars. Better order take out or delivery and eat in your pjs while you catch up on your favorite tv show!

This place is ok, nothing to shout about. We had the ebiten roll(shrimp tempura), spider roll, eel roll, and spicy tuna roll. The food here is meant to pretty much mask the fish rather than complement it. It’s sushi for the masses. We especially did not like the spicy tuna roll, which was a bit too Mexi-Japanese for our taste. The spider crab seemed freshly fried though. If we are ever in the area, we might try it again, but we would not go out of the way to come here.

Ordered the dragon roll with added tuna for delivery. Delivery was 20 – 25 minutes with a delivery charge of $ 6.00. The dragon roll was fresh and rather cold, which was good, when I received it. The roll tasted great. I’ve had better elsewhere, but for a place I’ve never heard anything about or even seen, it was pretty good.

Ordered delivery, and I’m not so sure I’ll be ordering again. The tuna tataki arrived room temp/warm, and was such a small portion for the price paid. I mean, even as an appetizer, it wouldn’t even satisfy a toddler(if toddlers ate raw fish). The volcano roll was whatever. I paid a $ 10 delivery charge for mediocre sushi. Huge disappointment.

I hate leaving negative reviews but this has good to be the worse sushi I have ever tasted and even worse was the service. My husband and I order three rolls and an appetizer for takeout. On the phone we were told that it would be ready in 25 to 30 minutes. Once we arrived we still had to wait an additional hours which was beyond ridiculous for a place that was not even completely full. Once our food was ready and brought out we asked for eel sauce and spicy mayo and the lady wanted to charge us .50 for each which is not bad but given the long wait I told her we were not going to pay for the sauces after an hour wait with no apology for the delay. The girl simply rolled her eyes and said that next time it wouldn’t be free.(There won’t be a next time for us). That was out first experience so you can imagine in the mood that we went home but we were hungry and looking forward to eating our sushi which unfortunately turned out to be so disgusting. Literally it was not eatable. The only decent one was the green dragon with dynamite on top and that w as even greasy. The catapilar roll was horrible made and falling apart and it also tasted less than desirable and the black widow roll was cut into such big pieces that each piece took multiple bites and everything will fall out. Overall less than impress with the food and service and I will never be going back. Safe yourself the headache and disappointment.

I’ve had my eye on this place for a while and after dining here several times, this is my take on J Tokyo. Initially, the mixed reviews seemed odd to me. There were rave reviews and unhappy ones too. I get it. So far, the sushi has been very good. Prices are decent and food, always fresh. The staff is attentive and friendly. The location is easy to find with plenty of parking. The one thing I’ve been trying to place my finger on and describe is why, there is something lacking regarding the ambiance. The décor is dark, so it should feel inviting but doesn’t. It almost seems clinical. I don’t know why I’m at a loss for words on the description but can say, don’t dine here if you are looking for a romantic night out. If you want good sushi at a pretty good price, go for it, it won’t let you down. Side note: Have no idea how it works, but I’ve noticed they do deliver.

Had dinner there with the fam on a week night and we had a great experience! I had been here before many years ago, and though I did not get it this time, I still have fond memories of the avocado salad. As last time, the restaurant mantains friendly service and delicious food. We went at prime dinner time and the place was mostly empty, though we can’t really understand why. The restaurant shows a lot of attention to detail in their food prep if not their décor. Kudos for the super frosty beer glass that kept my beer very chilled throughout the whole meal :) We shared the wasabi pork shumai. It wasn’t too bad, but it was my least favorite dish. There was so much wasabi in the dumpling that it almost took on a floral note that was not pleasing to me. If you LOVE wasabi –then it is great! For only $ 9 you get a salad and a huge bowl of chicken teriyaki and rice! My son(4 year old) loved it! He kept telling me how delicious it was that I broke down and tried it — yummy! It was a nice thick teriyaki sauce over seared chicken. I had the Dragon roll as my entrée and I couldn’t even finish it(I guess I took too many bites of the chicken). The avocado in the roll was very creamy and fresh. I asked for spicy mayo and eel sauce on the side and both were great, though the spicy mayo could stand to be a touch spicier. My DH had the teriyaki steak dinner. Very generous portion of steak, a whole california roll, 2 pork dumplings(much tastier than the wasabi ones), noodles and some watermelon. All of it was perfectly cooked. The steak was just to the right temp, very tender and not overpowered by the sauce. My overall impression of this Japanese restaurant is fresh and well-balanced food. Can’t wait to come back for another meal :)

Meh. Sushi was on point but their hot food left much to be desired. I would return again and get the Bishop roll(tuna on avocado, on avocado, on tuna action, with some masago and spicy kimchee sauce for balance) or the… J Tokyo? I think that’s what it was. Their chefs understand the appropriate amount of eel sauce that goes into a roll: i.e. it’s not swimming in it. Oh, and hit up those wasabi pork shumai, fried. Never had anything quite like it, and I must say I enjoyed it. We will return and avoid the hot food. Except for the specials board, which seems innovative(re: the shumai).

Walked in for lunch and had a mediocre experience. The Yakuza roll that I ordered was way too salty — it is apparently one of their more popular rolls, but the brown sauce on it was applied too liberally over the top and sides of each piece. I tried wiping off as much of it as I can on the plate that it came on, but even then the roll was hardly palatable. On the other hand, the yakiniku was pretty good. Reminded me of bulgogi, a Korean dish. Came with salad and dressing(too salty!), lightly-seasoned noodles, and a slice of watermelon(to wash away the salt in your mouth I presume). The server I had was quick and friendly, but the décor was subpar and the windows let in too much light. Please clean the dirty AC vent covers… too many restaurants are guilty of this and I don’t know why. Look up!

The good: –Fast, friendly service –Very tasty fried rice, dumplings and chicken katsu –Good selection of different sushi from traditional to more modern/unique and different fish options. –The madonna roll was delicious –Fresh sushi that was also enjoyable for the most part –Variety of specials –Nice presentation of food The bad: –We visited on a Tuesday night, early in the evening, and were told they were out of strawberries and another key ingredient, so a roll we wanted couldn’t be made, nor could a couple others. That wasn’t a big deal, but then they were also out of all beers except 2. It was just strange to be out of so many drinks, and key ingredients for sushi –A large party came in, and the restaurant only had 1 server working so they weren’t really equipped for it. She tried her best and was still efficient with us overall, but they didn’t needed a second person. I’m guessing weeknights aren’t usually that crowded. –The ceviche roll was not our favorite at all. It was way too limey.

wow. went with a friend after she found this wonderful surprise on Unilocal.AMAZING! started withan appetizer of Cajun Japanese style sweet potato fries — so good! if you love ceviche, as I do, order the ceviche roll! asked our waitress(who just so happened to be the owner’s daughter) what to order, she offered to have the chef make us something special. all I can say about what came out was OMG. delicious salmon roll(bites a bit big, and kinda spicy, but delish nonetheless) and a tuna tar tar roll that was crunchy on the outside with some incredible sauce… DEFINITELY go there. a must in west kendall!
