I went here for Father’s Day with my parents for dinner and the food was excellent. I love the décor and vibe and our server David was awesome! Very knowledgable, friendly and attentive. Even my mom who is a very picky eater said the duck was the best duck she had ever gotten! I got the rockfish special and my dad the lamb and we all cleaned our plates! The host, however, was not overly welcoming. I was running a few minutes late and when I went to the host stand to check in and tell her I was meeting my parents, she just pointed me in their general direction with not so much as a smile. I have worked in the hospitality industry for a few years now and the host is usually the first face you see when you are checking in so you have to be sure to make a good impression. She did not but thankfully David made up for it!

We were really looking forward to dining at Red Fox Inn & Tavern because of it’s history and charm, not to mention the great reviews it received. It did not disappoint! The cozy, old world atmosphere was perfect with a quiet and romantic ambiance despite the dining room being full. We loved the light jazz instrumental music. The service was wonderful. The pricing is for fine dining, so plan accordingly. I found the food very good, but I am not an adventurous diner. I got the Center-Cut Filet Mignon with the Rosemary Cabernet Sauce and the White Cheddar Mac & Cheese Bake. It was delicious! My husband had the Seared Sea Scallops and said they were fabulous. It came with Asparagus which he does not really like, but he said theirs was very good! We will definitely come back when traveling in the area again and maybe get to try the Decadent Chocolate Torte!

Today I joined a co-worker for lunch at The Red Fox Tavern. The restaurant was nice and it was my first visit to the area. I loved the historic feel of the place. The food was good, I ordered a bacon cheese burger. The bacon was undercooked and the bun was a little hard, but overall it was good. The service was also good, but it took a long time for the food to come out. Aside from the length of time it took to receive our meal, everything was great!

My wife and I visited Middleburg yesterday after dropping our daughter off at a birthday party in Aldie. Middleburg is not far very from our digs, but it feels like you are exceptionally far removed when you get there. There are a handful of quaint shops offering antiques and the whole town feels very«peaceful». Red Fox Tavern is located on the main street and it has both indoor and outdoor seating. Inside it feels a bit cramped with only a half dozen tables or so with seating available at the bar top. We found the menu to be relatively diverse offering burgers, sandwiches and soups. I ordered a basket of wings with hot sauce. I would have preferred the sauce to have been tossed with the wings versus being drizzled over the wings themselves. But, nonetheless the wings were mighty tasty. The wings were slightly crisped from the fryer and I could sense a bit of onion salt. My wife had the fish n’ chips and it was equally as good as the wings. I’m figuring it was cod or some other mildly-tasting white fish. The fish had good character and it spent just enough time in the fryer without turning«soggy». The wait staff was really pleasant and they all worked in tandem waiting on tables so it made for a pretty efficient experience. They offer live music as well, although we didn’t stay late enough for the tunes. You should definitely stop by for a meal at Red Fox Tavern if you find yourself in Middleburg. Good value all around!

I think the Red Fox is a good 4 stars. The food was pretty good for the most part and the customer service was stellar. We ate on the patio and the weather was perfect. Coming here on a Thursday evening was great with there being just the right amount of people to not be too crowded. We ordered the shrimp n grits(different take on it but a good one), fried green tomatoes(I loved the goat cheese with these), ribeye with spinach n zucchini gratin(both had great flavor to them. Seasoning was spot on. I chose the peppercorn sauce which was a great choice.), the pork chops with Brussels sprouts(a little dry and the Brussels are super sweet but my BF seemed to enjoy them), and the vanilla caramel crunch cake(outstanding)! Yes I recommend and would definitely return here. It was a great experience overall!

After a 35 mile bike ride in Middleburg, and being exhausted and hungry, we decided to stop in for a nice dinner In the quaint town. We chose Red fox because of its historical appearance. Boy were we in for a treat. The food was absolutely incredible, I had the salmon dish and my fiancée had the catch of the day which was Halibut. We both agreed that we have never tasted halibut this great. To top it off, they have an incredible wine menu with not only local Virginia choices, but wines from all around the world. Overall a great restaurant, amazing food, with a dim candle lit atmosphere. We will me returning to the red fox.

We dined yesterday evening at Middleburg’s Red Fox(the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend), and it was a superb evening all around. With an 8 o’clock reservation, we strolled in after a walk around this tony enclave and were seated promptly. The dining room is quaint and historic, with low ceilings, oil lamps, equestrian and hunt prints adorning the walls, and soft jazz playing over the sound system. The restaurant was surprisingly uncrowded, with just three or four other tables occupied when we sat down(there is a bar in the adjoining room). Onto the dinner: Our waitress, Kristin, was excellent — very prompt, and struck just the right balance between inattentive and overbearing. The meal commenced with an assortment of warm breads, which certainly seemed freshly-baked. Opting to forgo appetizers, we dove straight into the entrées — the rack of lamb for me, and veal schnitzel for my companion. The lamb was divine, cooked medium-rare and prepared under a decadent lemon-caper cream sauce, served alongside a flavorful white cheddar mac-and-cheese bake. From what I understand, the schnitzel — with a spätzle accompaniment — exceeded all expectations. After wrapping up dinner, we moved onto dessert: Southern pecan pie with vanilla ice cream, and coffee for the both of us. This portion of the evening proved to be my favorite, as we were able to take in the peaceful tranquility of the Red Fox after-hours before finally heading out just after 10. All in all, no complaints. Thankfully, I live just twenty minutes away — so many future visits are surely in order.

Everything we had here was delicious and we had great service! I’m writing this review about 6 months after going… but it still makes my mouth water. I was with a big group and I think we ordered almost everything on the menu and loved it all. The standout(to me) was their duck. It had a delicious kind of crispy glaze/sauce. It’s hard to beat a place where you’re eating in the same room that George Washington, JFK, Elizabeth Taylor, etc ate in AND the food is incredible! There’s a lot of history and if you enjoy architecture, it’s a very fun space.

If a 6th star were possible these guys have earned it. Every little detail attended to within this classic property. Outstanding restaurant downstairs. Uniquely designed rooms with character and luxury combined. Service in all aspects was attentive and professional. I leave this unique historic inn with zero complaints and plans to return as soon as possible.

I’ve been coming here for lunch with my mom for years whenever we take day trips out to Middleburg and it never disappoints. The restaurant is in the basement of an old inn so it’s a little dark but the staff is always friendly and attentive and our meals are always delicious. On our latest visit, we split the fried green tomatoes(yum!) and I had the roast beef sandwich while my mom had the steak and truffle fries. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the house-made truffle fries and potato chips were both out of this world. I’d definitely recommend coming here for a casual but satisfying lunch if you’re ever in Middleburg!

If you ever wanted to have brunch in a hobbit house, book a table at the Red Fox Tavern! Reservations are highly recommended so this place fills up fast! This is a neighborhood watering hole so don’t be surprised if you see families in full riding regalia enjoying a mimosa and some pancakes, laughing heartily away. For $ 27 you get a two-course brunch which is a great deal if you are looking to try a few of their favorite menu items. I decided straight away to get their signature Virginia peanut soup which basically tasted like liquefied peanut butter with peanuts on top. It was awesome but super, super rich. For all those Pinoys out there — it’s basically kare kare without any of the meat or vegetables. My main course was their crab cakes which came on goat cheese grits and a few greens thrown here or there. It was tasty and filling and hobbit approved. Perfect for breakfast or second breakfast if you will. Service was friendly and we got to sit right next to the fire which was so welcome since it was a bit dreary outside. While Salamander Resort is gorgeous, I think this place offers a more authentic ambiance and better food and service for your money.

I had a great dinner here with my sister this past weekend. She had been back in November and raved about it, so I wanted to try it as well. We were staying nearby at the Salamander Resort, so it was the perfect opportunity for me to check it out and her to come back. The food was delicious and the portions are huge. My sister and I could have definitely split an entrée. I had the wedge salad and the crab cakes. My sister had the house salad and chicken Cordon Blue. The entrees are definitely classics(chicken piccata, crispy duck, surf and turf), but the inventive sides the entrees come with add a nice twist. My dish included goat cheese grits and spinach and cauliflower gratin. My sister’s had the best Brussels sprouts I’ve ever had and smashed red potatoes. We were both way too full to try dessert, but I had a wonderful hot cider(which was the daily drink special) and my sister had a delicious local Chardonnay blend. The service was attentive and friendly without being intrusive, and the atmosphere is very quaint. We will definitely be back!

We get to Middleburg a few times a year and it’s been a while since we dined at the Red Fox. You can’t beat the tavern for the sense of history. We enjoyed a wonderful appetizer of fried green tomatoes over a black bean salsa. I’m not sure whether my chicken avocado sandwich was better or my wife’s ham and Brie. The best part of the meal was the delightful service. I was t surprised to find the charm our server exhibited was rooted in her Georgian upbringing.

Great place for brunch! We were visiting the Salamander Resort and everyone there said this is the place to visit, they were right! The town of Middleburg is so cute as well. The tavern and town have a great history, the tavern was built in 1728. I love how you preserved this place is especially the fireplace! Now when it comes to the food… wow, it’s so delicious. The food comes in large portions and the menu is very broad(especially with the salads) and just so many things to pick from. They offer a two and three course brunch, we decided on the two course. The first course I had the Strawberry and Spinach Salad and for the second course– The Local. Unfortunately, I only managed to take one photo which was the dessert(oh my god! So good) that right there should tell you how appetizing the food is here. Definitely take the time to check out the town, you’ll love it.

So so so happy with this place. I wanted to come back every single day we were in Middleburg! It starts off with how truly colonial the building still feels, inside and out, with low ceilings and a dark, moody, intimate vibe. And our waiter was fantastic and funny. There were about 5 appetizers I wanted to try, but we started with the fried green tomatoes, which had a Latin flair and were absolutely devoured. For my meal, I got the bratwurst special; the mustardy, creamy sauce on them was delicious, but there wasn’t quite enough of it. The mashed potatoes were fine, nothing special about them. Ditto with the brussel sprouts and bacon, also fine. If I came back, I would try one of the delicious-sounding entrée salads, or really a bunch of the other entrees as well.

The food here is very good. It is rather standard, hearty, high-quality American food. The prices are a little steep but the portions are good. My favorite thing to order is the chicken sandwich with avocado. It’s a nice place if you live in the DC area but want to get away for a day.

Phenomenal! We made a reservation so to be on the safe side and were sat immediately. The ambiance is spectacular, a great place if you are celebrating something something. I started off with the white cheddar Mac n cheese side, perfection! Then moved onto the Ruben sandwich, which was one of the best I’ve had in awhile! The wine selection is out of this world! Our server was David, he was took great care of us, such a friendly person. For dessert we ended up getting the southern bourbon pecan pie! I will definitely be back!

This place is cute. Not as romantic as I’d hoped, but cute. We’ve been here twice and I highly recommend you make reservations. The first time we came here, I had a seafood pasta that was out of this world! I had some leftover the next day and it was even better. Rarely can you say that about restaurant pasta. The second time we came here was to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. We made reservations and it was so much less romantic than the place they stuck us when we didn’t make reservations, which was upstairs somewhere. For our anniversary, I had ordered some salmon. It was ok. Nothing to write home about. I was really excited about dessert. That was a total letdown and it tasted like it wasn’t fresh. For the reputation and the prices this place has, I would have expected so much more out of them. All in all, an OK place. No need to rush here though.

I had heard a lot about this place and thought we would try it out for breakfast. I come in to town quite a bit for business. I was surprised how rude the staff was. As we entered we were asked if we were hotel guests, and we replied we were not. The silver haired woman spoke to us like we were children and said«we don’t serve breakfast unless you are a guest and maybe you should look next time at the front sign, it’s clearly stated» I nicer approach would have been ’ I am so sorry please visit us during the week when we are open to the public“ Hostess on today LEARNSOMEHOSPITALITYMANNERS”

We had an amazing getaway here and the highlight was dinner starting with the salad selections– I loved the seasonal arugula beet goat cheese salad with pumpkin seeds. Crab cakes were wonderful with great sides — goat cheese grits and zucchini broccoli cauliflower at gratin. My husband loved red fox salad and the surf n turf. We rarely get dessert and I’m glad we splurged. He loved –loved– the pecan pie. I was not disappointed with the vanilla caramel crumb cake. It was amazing! Drink selection was great — we discovered a new Devils backbone favorite we hadn’t heat of before. The Schwartz German black lager! Old dark tavern with fireplace roaring — different feel but nice for the two of us. Great service. Great evening — but also very pricey for us. It was a real treat and worth it. Busier than I expected on a Monday night. I’m glad we made dinner reservations. We had a nice night in the Martha Washington room — very comfortable and in the corner with views of the Main Street. You can hear the activities in the meeting room downstairs, but it quieted down later — no problem at all. Breakfast the next morning did not disappoint. I loved the cranberry raisin French toast. The ham and Swiss omelet with home fries was just what my husband was looking for. Highly recommended — as long as you are ok with the prices. Looking forward to treating ourselves again in the future.

Stopped in for lunch today. I was impressed to see how busy it was for a Thursday afternoon but it was a gorgeous day in Middleburg! We started with the artichoke dip which was awesome, and had salads for entrees. My salad was ok, I topped it with smoked salmon but wish they had a salmon filet instead. Pretty pricey for what you get but that is fit for the area. Atmosphere was nice, very much a tavern setting. Beer and wine selection were awesome. Several local selections. I would recommend but beware that it may cost you a lil extra than a usual lunch.

My friend and I had never been to the restaurant and loved the atmosphere as soon as we entered. We didn’t have reservations on a Sunday night, but the hostess was sweet and seated us at the last available table in the main room. I definitely recommend reservations because the next couple to arrive without reservations had to be turned away. We ordered cocktails(that were perfect) but not appetizers. For the main course, my friend ordered the schnitzel while I ordered halibut. Both of our dinners were outstanding. So was the caramel cake. The bill was approximately $ 50 per person. Our waiter was terrific. He was attentive but not intrusive.

Atmosphere of this restaurant is beautiful. It is heavy with history and I feel positive vibes from this place. Food was ok. It was my birthday and waitress knew about it. She didn’t said anything or offer anything. Usually restaurants do little gestures but that wasn’t a big deal. I love the atmosphere. I love the historic buildings very much. Waitress also forgot to bring lemon for my water, but I guess she was pretty busy. So no big deal there either. If you want s romantic dinner, this place is one of the best places in loudoun to go to. Worth a try. It’s not that expensive either. Four star is for waitresses attendance and interest in the costumer. Other wise I could have given five star.

I can’t say enough good about the Red Fox Inn & Tavern. We were in DC and decided to make our way to Middleburg to enjoy a non-traditional tourist Saturday. The drive from DC was lovely and took under an hour. It took us only about five seconds to fall in love with the wonderful charm of Middleburg. The Tavern, built in 1728, is lovingly preserved and exudes both historicity and warmth. We had taken the only open reservation they had, at 2:30 pm, so upon arrival we were presented with their lunch menu. I chose the blue cheese wedge salad and the fried chicken. It was absolutely amazing! It’s hard to find fried chicken on menus back home. We are pretty much stuck with the Colonel. The Fox’s chicken was moist and tender on the inside, but sported a crispy and incredibly tasty crust. Best of all, the entrée came with macaroni and cheese. Oh my gosh. Hands down the best mac and cheese we’ve ever had. And, we’ve had some great mac and cheese. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich. It was top notch as well. And, the service was wonderful. Our food came quickly, our glasses were always full, and one server was kind enough to ask the chef how they made the wonderful pickled onions that were on my salad. You know you’ve been to a great restaurant when you start trying to figure out when you can arrange to fly all the way across the country to eat there again. The total for lunch was around $ 50 excluding tip. Not really too steep considering we each had a salad, an entrée, and a soda.

Went to The Red Fox Inn & Tavern for brunch, it’s a great atmosphere and the service is excellent. We arrived at 11 and was seated in the bar/fireplace room. The food is great, large proportions and brought out hot. The patrons picked up by the time we left at 12:30; it’s a very relaxing meal. As of April 2014, they have three courses and you pay for either the first and second or second and third courses or pay for all three. $~27.95 for two courses and $~32.95 for all three which includes non-alcoholic drinks. I would recommend making reservations and recommend trying it at least once. We parked on the street, there may be a parking lot to the side of the inn on N Madison Street between The Red Fox Inn & Tavern and Foxhound Firearms. I suspect guests who are checked in and staying at the inn need somewhere to park their vehicles overnight. Just be aware you may have to parallel park and hoof it a block or two if you arrive later in the day.

I ate at Red Fox Inn on the way home after staying in Middleburg for the weekend, and I’m glad my friend recommended this delightful place. Of course, it’s an old tavern basically located in a basement, so the dining room is rather cramped. There was a somewhat large party in the same room number so the noise level is a bit elevated if you have rambunctious patrons there. Kind of distracts from the atmosphere a bit. We were there for brunch, so I tried out their brunch and breakfast fare. First of all, the breads that they provide are absolutely delicious. Great croissants as well as danishes, so much so that we asked for another bread basket. My crab cakes were great. I remember this meal fondly and had a great and tasty meal, so I would definitely recommend eating at Red Fox Inn whether you’re just passing through Middleburg, or staying in the area.
