It’s tragic news, but the Mililani Maui Tacos is closed. If you need a Maui Tacos fix, you’ll have to go to Kailua or the newer one in Waikiki(or Maui!)

The first time we had Maui Tacos on Maui, we were TOTALLY hooked. Tacos and burritos are fantastic and the variety of salsas turn a good meal into a fabulous one. The grilled steak is tender and the rice is fluffy. I have to admit that I’ve never had their chicken, but I’m so addicted to the steak that it’s hard for me to break the habit of ordering steak. But my love of beef is a whole other story. I can’t say I’ve had better salsa than the guacamole salsa here. It’s fresh, hot, spicy, and muy delicioso. I love the mild stinging it leaves around my mouth. To counter the spiciness of the guac, I add the Hula Heat, which is a flavorful tomato-based salsa. De-lish! I’ve been to the Kailua and Royal Hawaiian Center’s Maui Tacos as well, but they don’t seem to match the flava of this joint. There isn’t any indoor seating here and there are only 3 tables outside for dining so you have the shark people until they leave if go when it’s busy. But it’s well worth the wait.

Maui Taco is awesome if your measurement of «normal» mexican food is Taco Bell or Compadre(Ward). But compare to real Texmex(is that an oxymoron?) from Texas or the home style mexican cooking from southern cal, Maui Taco is nothing special. The food is fresh, the salsa is good, the amount is satisfying. Those secured the 3 stars. I suggest avoiding the fish taco, it guarantees disappointment. The beef and chicken are fair. The sauce for the enchilada is quite good. The highlight is definately the salsa.

As good as you can be better than Taco Bell for a fast food tacos. A little pricey but at least it’s fresh and good size for portion. Love the salsa bar!

Okay, this place rocks. There’s nothing fancy about mexican food. I love it. I can dive into it anytime I can’t decide what else to eat. And since I love fish, I really enjoyed the ahi fish tacos platter. Take it to go and it’s frickin’ great! I don’t even put the condiments in the cups, really don’t need much, except the unique pineapple passion salsa on my chips and hula heat salsa on my tacos and I’m out the door with satisfaction because if I go for lunch the food may take a bit to make and I sure don’t want to be late for work. Great stuff.

While it’s nearly impossible to find authentic Mexican food in Hawaii, Maui Tacos does a darn good job in creating their own version of the burrito. They offer several choices of wraps — even spinach, the meat is excellent, and the salsa’s great too. Of the American Chain burrito shops out here — Moe’s, Tacos Del Mar and Maui Tacos, Maui Tacos is head and shoulders above everyone else.

I had a GREAT taco salad here, it was really delicious. My Husband was disappointed with his tacos though and wished he had gotten a burrito– oh well! The salad was great :)

Okay, first off, lets just get this out of the way — for you folks that want to compare this place to a So Cal taqueria, you’re right, you can get better Mexican for less money on the mainland. Once we’re past that, Maui Tacos has pretty decent food — fresh salsas, cooked to order fish tacos and burritos, and reasonable prices. I like the fish soft taco with pineapple salsa for a light meal or one of the king sized burritos if I’m more hungry(or want leftovers). The staff at the Mililani restaurant are friendly and enthusiastic, and its always a good sign when the crew cooking your Mexican meal is chatting amongst themselves in Spanish, and you can amuse yourself checking out the celebrity mug shots from the Lahaina shop while you wait for your food. The down side is that there are only 2 or three tables, and you’re competing with the smokes from the Starbucks next door. We usually grab our stuff to go, since we live a few blocks away. Stop in and try it, you’ll be surprised!
