Staff was really helpful and the beds were very comfortable. Woke up in a good mood for once. Everything was clean and everything worked just fine.

This place was a dump. The room smelled like stale cigarettes, the lighting was awful, and the décor was reminiscent of an early-season Seinfeld episode. Though I had a bit of a hangover the next morning, even the scary hotel food could not make it better. The cold, soggy instant scrambled eggs quivered on my plate while I gagged down an equally soggy biscuit covered in lumpy gravy. Even though I was intoxicated for most of my stay here(hey, it was a wedding), I could not find a single redeeming quality about this place.

Good and clean hotel with the most comfy king size beds. It’s definitely a little older with box TV’s and obsolete exercize machinery but my stay was very comfortable. The restroom was clean and well equiped. Their coffee was very delicious. Their complimentary breakfast was decent with yogurt, eggs(hard boiled and scrambled), bacon, coffee, juices, bagels, bananas, biscuits, muffins, cereal, et al. At $ 99/night, I think it’s a bit pricey for a small town hotel but then again, what isn’t expensive these days?

I stay almost exclusively in Holiday Inn Express hotels when I travel for work. They are typically fairly new and very nice for the money. The Holiday Inn Express on Shary Rd. in McAllen is on the lower end of quality for the Holiday Inn Express hotels I’ve stayed in. I got a suite that had a separate living room/kitchenette from the bedroom. This is a fair sized room and worked well for my purposes(I didn’t use the kitchen except for the fridge). Holiday Inn Express just started offering«hot» breakfast. This starts at 6 am. The first day, hot items did not come out till almost 6:20 and I was needing to leave to get to my job site. After that, the hot items were out closer to 6 am. Hot items include eggs(alternating omelettes or scrambled), meat(alternating pan sausage and bacon), biscuits and gravy. The main problem I had is that the hall on my floor smelled like an ashtray. My room itself had no smell, but going in and out was not a pleasant experience. The hotel staff were not very helpful, especially with problems with the computers in the Business center(most hotel staff do not know what to do with the computers, though). The location is just off the highway, but not near many restaurants. There are a few fast food places and a Chili’s on the other side of the freeway. For other restaurants, you have to travel a couple of miles. There is a WalMart next to the hotel and an HEB and Target across the freeway.

Great place just needs to do a better job with their wireless Internet which is a must for business travelers. Keeps kicking you off and they don’t have Ethernet ports in the rooms.
