The whole family went tonight for a pre-fathers day dinner and all I can say is WOW!!! Better than Benihana or Shogun that is FORSURE! The chef we got was the BEST Teppanyaki chef I have EVER seen!!! He was incredibly funny and did just the the same old tired routine that we have seen over and over! He ate fire, we caught bowls of fried rice(if your unsure then then take the insurance he offers you) he set multiple fires on purpose, including on the tables in front of us and had us BBQ our meats, & even after the food was all done he stayed and began doing a variety of magic tricks! All that and then did I mention the taste of the food here is absolutely delicious!!! We had an incredible night. I could not recommend this place and this chef in particular any higher… ask for«the magician»!!!

What happened to this place? We went there last night for dinner and were sat right away then waited 50 minutes for the chef to come over and cook for us. Our drinks were never refilled, my sons plastic monkey plate never came, when the chef finally cooked our food it was over cooked everything burnt to a crisp. Lobster well done is inedible. I complained about the wait to the server she said sorry and didn’t offer any compensation. Mind you we had two children that were starving and bored sitting there waiting an hour in a half to get their food. The sushi bar there used to be the best. Now with the change of ownership it’s awful. They also did not have the fans on last night over the teppan grills so the restaurant was extremely smokey. The hostess was wearing an outfit that looked like she just come from the beach. Short shorts, spaghetti strap tank top, sandals and at least 20 tattoos exposed. Not a good representation for a work environment. Also, there was not a manager at Tokoyo Kitchen. Nobody to hear my complaints. After 20 plus years of dining here I will never go back. I will go to Shogun in Laverne instead.

Been coming here for years, even after the ownership change. The food is amazing, everyone I bring enjoys the food and environment. There is plenty of entertaining cooks. I usually tip the bill and cooks separately(it’s that good). Nothing compares to this not even the over hyped Benihana restaurant. Highly recommended!

Absolutely love going to this place during lunch. However I hate the fact that they took their sushi bar out and that they shorten their happy hour. Other then that it’s a good place to eat!

What the heck! They got rid of their sushi bar. Can’t even sit there. The place looks like a ghetto restaurant now. New ownership is so stupid. Got rid of the best part of the place. They will be out of business in less than a year.

This place is not what it once was. No sushi bar and is under new management. Apparently the new management is letting this place go downhill. Food not so great, service so/so. Prices high for what you’re getting. Save your money for Wabi Sabi or Benihana’s.

This is probably my favorite restaurant! Been going there for 25 years and their fried rise is unsurpassed!!! Best meal ever!

I’ve been coming here for years. It’s my go-to place for any special occasion. I have tried almost every sushi and teppan grill restaurant in the local area, and this place is THEBEST! Editted *****I’ve been a loyal customer for many years. This place was my happy place. New management came in, got rid of the staff and sushi bar. The food was lack-luster and they didn’t even know how to make a 50⁄50 drink(something I’ve ordered for years there) I used to boast that this was the BEST in the area. It is now Sub-par. What a disappointment :(***

Came here for the first time with family and thought food was pretty decent. Had the teriyaki chicken, and the teriyaki sauce was amazingly good!!! Onion soup was decent, but I’m not a fan of onion soup to begin with. I’m taking off one star since the chicken was a littler overlooked which took away the enjoyment of eating my dinner. My husband had the filet minion, thought it was good. Overall, I would come back.

This place is good! First time coming here, and it won’t be my last! I just wish they had chicken fried rice instead of pork fried rice. Oh well, still good!!! Sam was our chef and he was great!!!

Although a few years ago I would have given this establishment 5 stars, my most recent visit left me with a 4 star feel. The service and food are still amazing. I am a huge fan of their Chicken and Shrimp combo with fried rice and EXTRA pink sauce. I have been coming here for over 15 years and remember the interaction with the cooks being the best part of the meal. They would do tricks on the grill, make fire volcanoes and toss shrimp into your mouth(don’t be scared by these comments, it was really fun). I took my date here 2 months ago, slipped the cook a $ 5 bill in hopes that he would make the night a bit more entertaining, but nothing. I would just hope that the cooks could get a little more engaging with the group. I hyped it up and then unfortunately a $ 70 meal with no show, bummed!

One of my favorite restaurants. We used to go here for my birthday every single year. I could eat here everyday, that’s how good it is. They give you ALOT of food. They always have the best service. I wish we didn’t move away. I miss Tokyo Kitchen!

We have been dining at Tokyo Kitchen for over 25 years. Last night was my daughters 18th birthday and she wanted her birthday dinner here like she always has. I have been reading/watching the Unilocal reviews since hearing that the staff/ownership had changed. We were one day away from canceling and never going back because of the negative reviews about all that changed. I am so happy we decided to give it «one more try»… We will definitely be back just like we always have! Yes, a few things are different. I know many have said the disappearance of the sushi bar is a deal breaker and in all honesty, we did not come here for the sushi so for us we don’t miss it. We come for the quality teppanyaki food and good customer service and both of these things are still here. Past customers… DONOT hesitate to return! I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 because we did miss the delicious seasoned rice but the steamed we were given was still very good. Also, for those mentioning portion size change, the only difference we noted was a few less veggies but still more than enough to fill us all. Finally, pricing was about the same. This has always been a $$ restaurant and that hasn’t changed. Overall, I think the price matches the quality food and portion size.

I wish they still had the sushi bar! No reason to go here anymore with out the sushi bar. If you are going for teppanyaki you are better off going to Benihana. Best sushi chief in the world right here. It was a plus he made good sushi but the hospitality from the staff was awesome. Now I have to find a new sushi bar

It boggles my mind that this establishment is still in business. We stopped in for dinner last week and I was unimpressed. I ate here once maybe 6 – 7 years ago and remember liking the food. My experience this time was not so good. Here’s the scorecard: 1)soup — average 2)tempura — dipping sauce was gross. Shrimp was good 3)fried rice– wrong kind of rice for a Japanese restaurant. Not good 4)chef– boring 5)chicken & vegtables-average 6)service– average Overall I was disappointed. It’s amazing that this place is still busy on certain evenings. I will never eat here again.

Standard, boring, unexciting teppanyaki restaurant. The«chef» did not say 2 words to the table… aren’t we paying a premium for the show? Food was average at best… steak over cooked, scallops thin and rubbery. Dont even think about ordering a bottle of wine with dinner… no list, no choices. And why, pray tell, do these places always give you the ungodly bean sprouts at the end of the meal…6 people at our table had enough uneaten sprouts to feed the masses… and I thought Jesus was the only one who could stretch food that far! I seldom go to these places(absolutely hate Benihana) but my kids talk me into it about once a year… this place reminds me why once in a lifetime is one time too many!

I had a good meal here on my first and only visit thus far. An order of a cut Spicy Tuna Sushi Roll arrived with small pieces but there were 8 of them, and they were moist, spicy, and excellent in taste. I also enjoyed very good light Shrimp Tempura, good Vegetable Tempura featuring onions and mushrooms, and very good Popcorn Shrimp. Excellent Plum Sauce was available which was light and fruity. The Teriyaki Sauce was okay but a little odd in taste from the standard variety. Onion Soup was good and gut warming, with very good broth and a few mushrooms. An included salad was fresh and boasted tasty Ginger Dressing but consisted of just Iceberg Lettuce and a little cucumber. A large portion of Fried Rice was tasty, and Filet Mignon buttery, very tender, and prepared medium rare to my specifications. Vegetables, too, were very good, and there were lots of them. They arrived from the teppenyaki grill in stages, which kept something always hot: onions, mushrooms, bean sprouts, or zucchini. But there were some downsides to go with the upsides. Grilled shrimp was tough. The grill master wiped off his cooking knife repeatedly on a dirty-looking cloth napkin hanging from his belt, which was off-putting for me. And, my tea mug was chipped. Service behind the grill was excellent! Friendly and very efficient, with constant drink refills, and all promises quickly kept. The grill master’s showmanship was underwhelming. But who cares? For me it’s the food that counts!

there’s good days and bad days at this place… I usually dont base my rating on service. but this place would have been 4 stars if it wasnt for bad service… days like friday. we would go during our lunch hour to grab our lunch. we usually get seated and geta served right away… but we had to walk out of this place twice on a friday as not enough chef was available… my thing will be during slow weekdays keep the chef to minimum but days like friday where everyone likes to splurge and go out… more chef should be available… food itself is great. but depending who makes it for you the taste varies… and some chef will do like a show for us while cooking the food but majority of them are into finishing really quick… if you are going as a big group or trying to make reservations… make sure all your party is there at the time you made the reswrvation… as they will not allow you to sit down until all your party arrives… I love getting their sesame chicken! sometimes I go all out and get either filet mignon or chicken and scallops… never had any that was bad here! would highly recommend if we are in the mood for teppan! never tried their sushi side but I am sure thats good too!
