Best tortas hands down. I have to make the drive from the SF valley to get me some good food.

I love this place — it has THEEEE best tortas. It’s generally crowded during lunch but it is so worth it. You can also call in your order! TRYTHEIRAGUAFRESCAS! Full of sugar but so delicious. I mean why not have a delicious drink with your amazing torta? I have been here a few times and the bombero is my favorite. The steak is delicious and avocado is always a plus in my eyes. It is very savory and full of ingredients. It will keep you coming back for more. And the sweet potato fries(red fries) are PERFECT. Crispy with just a good amount of salt — very addicting.

I give two stars because the tortas are good but the AC is on and the music is blasting! I’m freezing and it’s 48° outside. Why is it so cold in here?! I can’t even have a conversation with my wife because the music is so loud. My wife even told the cashier that. Cashier did nothing. Maybe the owner has the volume set to have the customers eat and go. As I look at the wall, I see Zagat awards 2011 to 2013. Where’s 2014 and 2015. I guess business is bad and it reflects with tonight’s experience. Good luck.

I regret even coming here, I was told this place was really good, I had big expectations, parking was good not a lot of cars, inside tables are really small and don’t match, not a big deal. Menu is on the wall, looks good, most tortas are about $$ 10, pricey for a torta but if its good its worth it, but it’s not, even my 5 year old ask me can you buy more meat!!! that was the carne asada torta, big bread not enough meat not worth $ 10.99, I order the milanesa and it was really, really plain and dry, I ask for some kind of salsa at least and the lady with glasses don’t know her name made it look like a big deal, she said there is tapatio on the side if you want, really for a torta, the guy in the kitchen was cool, he gave me a small side of salsa but after lady made a big deal I said keep your salsa and your sandwich and got my money back, If you want good tortas go to don chente at whittier blvd, same price but you get at least 3 times the meat plus queso fresco, plus avocado, you get everything plus a free full side salsa bar, the tortas here are just way too overpriced, not really worry about customer service, please dont waste your money, in most pictures sandwiches look good, flavor is not too bad, bad too basic nothing fancy except for the names on the menu, try don chentes, clean, great customer service, cheaper, and lot more meat and tastier…

5−6−10 stars for this place!!! I’ve tried several of the tortas but I must say the«queso fresco» is my favorite. Super fresh with every bite you take. No wilted lettuce here. Everyone in the area… Try this place, you won’t regret it.

Cook’s Tortas is the kind of place that you walk in and fall in love after trying the food. The place is casual and welcoming. The staff is upbeat and friendly. The menu is written on a gigantic chalkboard on the wall. As you stare at the vast +40 types of sandwiches, beautifully handwritten on the wall, you can’t help but want to try every item! but alas, you only have one stomach and only so many meals per day. So such a heroic feat will require many meals to achieve. I once swore I would try every sandwich on the wall one day. I was dilegently trying a new sandwich every week until it happened. I fell deeply in love with the Bombero which has steak, roasted bell pepper mayo, and avocado. Since then, that’s what I always crave and ultimately get. Other sandwiches I like are the: Ahogada(slow cooked pork and spicy double dip) Mojito(roasted pork, garlic mojito, and slow-cooked onions) Ranchito(grilled skirt steak, dry aged chorizo, nopalitos salad, and spicy serrano guacamole) Shrimp Po’Boy(spice-battered shrimp, avocado red onion remoulade, and lettuce). Each sandwich comes with choice of side(potato salad, macaroni salad, or fruit salad). My least-favorite sandwiches are the Chicken Basil(too dry) and Bacalao(too salty). The house-made agua fresca drinks are good too. I love the jamaica! very refreshing! The parking lot is pretty small and can get super packed during lunch. Don’t try to park at the senior citizen’s home next door, there’s a security guard that will call a tow truck on you! you are safer just parking along the street.

After searching endlessly for a torta place that was opened after 7:30. I found this place. I was f’n famished. The last meal I had was around lunch time. And after running some errands and quick workout I stumbled upon Torta madness. Let me start off with the menu. Thank you for having so many choices of pork, chicken, and beef. And curse you for having so many choices. My belly wanted it all! But alas, I know I wouldn’t be able to choose all of it. So I went with The Ahogada. My friend who came along with me ordered the bombero. The Ahogada — it is pretty damn good. Maybe I was just hungry but the pulled pork swimming in this sauce just made my tongue dance. The fire that came with it however. MOTHER F. That spice made my tongue cry. Normally I could eat spicy but for some damn reason that spice… WOO. It was good though. Just a little too spicy for me to enjoy my food comfortably. The Bombero — BOMB.COM. It wasn’t spicy so maybe that’s why it was bomb. But it had a good amount of flavor in it. The beef was a tad on the dry side. But then again my palate was kinda on fire haha. Overall would definitely come back and try the other items. And probably avoid anything spicy here.

My friend SZ loves the chicken salad here and that is how I started coming here. Their Chicken Salad is pretty good: romaine, greens, cucumber, grilled zucchini, chicken, toasted sesame vinaigrette. You can add avocado if you pay extra, and I say that it is worth it. And that dressing! Mmmm delicious. The salad also comes with three small pieces of toasted bread, and those are really good too. While I will always eat salad, I am usually never a fan of salad… but that is not the case here. I really like this salad! But do you know what is even better than the salad? Their shrimp po’boy! It has battered shrimp, lettuce, avocado, and red onion remoulade. That fried shrimp is so delicious with the sauce! All their tortas come with a side, and we usually get this one with medium red fries. I am not sure why they call them«red fries» instead of «sweet potato fries» but it doesn’t really matter because they are yummy. I usually get the chicken salad instead of the shrimp po’boy because I feel like the salad is more diet-friendly than the torta… but I do think about that torta a lot. Cook’s Tortas is located on Atlantic and is a little difficult to turn in to if you are driving south, but their parking lot connects to the ones next door which are easier to turn into. They have a decent amount of parking, although sometimes you have to wait for people to leave. I have yet to actually eat here, as I always get my order to-go. Even if you order by phone, you still have to wait in the line like everybody else, but thankfully it moves pretty fast. Always make sure to check your order before you leave since they do not make changes once you do. I love this place and will continue to come back for their chicken salad and shrimp po’boy :D

While there are countless phenomenal taco trucks with varying versions of the classic selections, Cook’s Tortas offers something completely unique. Their unique take on the classic torta is on a completely different level. Interesting combinations like the cochinita, with Yucatan style pork, onion escabeche, black beans and crema, or the Ranchito with grilled steak, dry aged chorizo, nopalitos, cheese and spicy guacamole will send you into euphoria with every bite. It’s a bit out of the way for people that aren’t locals, but if you have an afternoon free and don’t want to be on the west side, I would highly recommend seeking this place out.

Get Bomb Tortas here! I grew up eating Mexican food and never had a good Torta until now. I tried the carne asada torta with avocados and it was delicious! Price is around $ 10 per torta including a small side(potatoes or macaroni). Love the torta bread and everything inside. The sides and the tech fries were just okay — nothing special and there wasn’t much sauce on the tech fries. I shall be back for Tortas!

3.5STARS… I saw a video clip where they bake their own bread for their tortas, so that was enough to get me to come here for lunch. I tried the #3(Molcajete) and #6(Bombero) with a side of ham and cheese macaroni. The flavor in both sandwiches were tasty. The steak was tender. The roasted red pepper mayo sauce in the Bombero tasted similar to the spicy mayo in sushi. The macaroni was just a macaroni salad with shredded cheese and ham bits in them… refreshing but nothing special. My only complaint was the steak had too much of a citrus flavor. Good, but overwhelming and it overpowered the other flavors in the sandwich; hence, the 3.5 stars.

Decided to drop by after a class since I haven’t had cooks in awhile. My usual go to is the El Diabla #666. I don’t know why I always have the crazy toilet time the next day.(Talk about TMI) But it is totally worth it. I got it with the side of red fries(Sweet potato fries). You get chicken, with some avocado, beans, jalapenos and some of the green sauce(el yucateco chile habanero). Took a first bite, hmm not spicy at all I pour more of the green stuff took another bite boom instant sweatin! I sweat more eating this than working out! This time the chicken was dry. It was definitely a lot juicer before. The red fries are yummy, even though I took it to go it was still nice and crispy and I believe they sprinkle a bit of powder sugar on it! It seems whenever I come back to cooks torta the prices goes up. But I’ll come back and try something not on the spicy side.

Hmmm. I just want to start off by saying that the cucumber dill is delicious. We ordered the La Diabla and the Shrimp Poboy with the sauce on the side. We got the cucumber dill and Mac and cheese as the sides. The La Diabla was very spicy as the menu depicts. You know how you see the little chili pepper or flame symbol next to menu items at some restaurants and it’s fairly mild? Well here, they aren’t being modest. It’s freaking spicy! My mouth was on fire! This is where the cucumber dill helped soothe my mouth! This sandwich was very good though. I loved the black beans and the sauce. The shrimp Poboy was nothing to rave about, but I really liked how the shrimp wasn’t covered in a thick layer of batter. It was perfectly crisp and juicy. The Mac and cheese was alright too. Not the best but my mouth was on fire so maybe it tasted better I just couldn’t taste. Anyways I can’t wait to come back and try other menu items. There were about 3 other tortas that I wanted to try hehe :)

My usual torta place no longer exists, so I was out of a good torta place for a couple of years. I’ve heard this name pop up a few times, and thought, heck… lets give it a try. It’s located on a major street that you can’t miss, and has enough spaces for parking. When first walking in through the door, a huge wall of different torta selections are right in front of your face. I felt a bit overwhelmed at first because it was so much to read. But with all the ingredients being listed for each of the 20 something sandwiches they had, it did make it easier to know what the heck I was wanting and ordering. Ended up trying out the basic Milanesa and the Ranchito. Got the milanesa because thats the only way to judge if it’s good or not. Something not too fancy. It was actually pretty good! The bread was soft in texture and the meat was cooked right. The portion was huge instead of the default torta sizes found at other places. The Ranchito contained grilled skirt steak, dry aged chorizo, salad, spicy serrano guacamole, and fresh cheese. Loved how everything went well with each other which added just the right taste without overdoing anything. They also have salads and a handful of different side orders you can pair with your torta. I’ve tried the Ham and Cheese Macaroni Salad and the Red Potato Salad. Made different from the norm, but definitely in a good way. Cook’s also sells fresh made drinks that all looks so good and refreshing. It was hard to choose which flavor to get. The flavors vary each day, and they do run out, so try and go early. The final choice of drink was watermelon lemonade I believe. All I know was that I got a large, and wanted more. All in all, I will be coming back, and this would be a contender as my new go-to torta spot.

Been coming here for years. They make some mean tortas here! the tortas are pretty good in size and packed with meat. As they should be since it’s about $ 10 a pop. A little pricey in my opinion. My favorite is the La Bombero. Steak sandwich at its best. The drinks are great and made fresh daily(I think). My fav: cucumber lime It’s gets very busy and packs up fast so going at odd times is better. They have a private lot that fills up fast. They accept credit cards as well. A quick fix for quality food. Highly recommended.

YUMMYUMMMM, I’m sooo so so obsessed with Cook’s Tortas ever since my high school daysss. Every sandwich on their menu is so delicious and appetizing. My fav and usual is the SHRIMPPO’ BOY. BESTDARNSANDWICHEVER. It does get packed around lunch so go around the off peak hours. Also, every sandwich comes with a side. I highly recommend their red fries(sweet potato fries), potato salad, and macaroni salad! Their drinks are soooo delightful and refreshing, you will fall in loveee. I really wish they made more of their watermelon drink. It’s seriously the best drink they have. Other than that, their cucumber(mixed with something I forgot), strawberry guava, lemonade with Chia seeds are also very refreshing and good! They have their own parking lot so that’s convenient! However, spots does get filled up quick.

My sister works fairly close to this location and she’s been bringing me leftover torta for the past year. Just recently, she decided to take me to this place and try their tortas fresh. I gotta admit, I thought this place was going to look rundown like the other Torta spots I go to around my area. It was surprisingly clean, a bit hip and very stylish! They also have a tiny parking lot with beautiful white flowers blossoming around. My sister usually orders their #5 Torta with asada/steak or a taco taco salad. She also loves their strawberry lime lemonade. After visiting this place for the first time, I kid you not, I returned three days in a row! When I really enjoy my meal, I get it consecutively until my taste buds get sick of it. Anyone else out there that does this? Any who, Reviews on the items I devoured: #5 Asada Torta($ 9 – 10) — Very delicious but their asada/steak is a kind of REALLY dry. I’d prefer their chicken. I’m probably going to substitute the meat next time. $ 666 Diablo Torta($ 9 – 10) — VERY spicy. Did they add ghost pepper to this? I love spice, but not when its soo spicy, that I can’t enjoy my meal. That’s how spicy this thing was. Their chicken was very juicy though. This torta stays true to its name. Evil spicy. Taco Taco Salad($ 12) — my favorite order, thus far. Except the dried up steak part– do they mean to cook the meat this way?! I think I’ll substitute the steak for chicken next time too. I’ll also ask for dressing on the side. It’s sometimes swimming in the sauce. Tech Fries/Red fries($ 5) — Sweet potato fries, but dirty dog style. They have ketchup, mustard and grilled onions to it. I was not a fan. I kept digging around looking for the fries that were not covered with overwhelming sauces. Potato Salad($ 1.50 for a small) — I was very very excited to try this but it was disappointing. Tasted sour. Maybe I got it during a bad day? Arroz de leche? Rice pudding– VERYVERY good. I see this as a dessert. Fruit Salad– Taste like how it should. Fruit with milk?- It was okay, the regular fruit salad is better. Probably less calories too. Strawberry Lime($ 3.50 for a large) — My sister’s favorite. Very yummy but tastes too«basic» for me. I prefer their more exotic drinks. This is a safe choice. Chiaseed Lemonade– I ADORETHIS! A bit too sweet/sour sometimes but I like chewing on the chaiseed! Jamaica– Interesting. Spicy kind of? Is it just me? It’s good but I can’t have too much of this Overall: I’d order the taco taco salad with chicken, dressing on the side and chiaseed lemonade. Their steak is way too dry

4.1209110508151305 Stars Growing up in South Gate, I have loved many Tortas in my younger years. The bread is quite unique from other Torta places I eat at. The Bread is described by LA Weekly Jonathan Gold as «Dense» and this is a very accurate description. Not crispy outside, fluffy inside as you may find in some tortas but the contrast makes this torta unique and gives a nice contrast to the lettuce, tomato and beef. I have yet to try the salads and cookies offered at Cook’s Tortas but I see many visits soon. If you are near the 60, 605, 5, 10, 101 you may not be far from Cook’s Tortas. Near ELAC and a variety of restaurants on Atlantic blvd, Cooks Torta’s can be a go to spot. Love at first bite, but will this Torta love me back? They have every possible torta to choose from — lengua, salmon, chicken, carne asada, etc. I got the carne asada torta — comes with skirt steak, avocado, pico de gallo with jalapeños, lettuce and mayo. The steak was perfectly tender — not chewy but not soft either. My friend and I shared this and we were full after, so it’s definitely a big enough sandwich to split. Your torta comes with a side — we chose potato salad. This was also really tasty and fresh! To drink, get the cucumber lime squeeze or a Mexican coke bottle! They have quick and friendly service and are always busy. Seating is plentiful inside and out, and they also have a free parking lot! Come hungry :)

Ok now in English I like tortas alot, however in the the San Gabriel Valley, I dont know where to get a good torta, until I went here. At this place(the only Mexican Restaurant in a sea of Asian Restaurants) there are many different types of tortas to make your tummy happy. I chose the torta ahogado, because my mom is from Guadalajara and the torta ahogado was born in Guadalajara(The most prettiest city in Mexico) and I wanted to feel more Mexican. Also Chente(Vicente Fernandez) loves Tortas Ahogadas. The Torta Ahogada was epic, I loved the pork, very succulent with lots of flavor and the chile was awesome and very spicy the way i like it. I felt very Guadalajaran. Next time I want to try other tortas like the cuban.
