My family enjoys the subs from this restaurant. The food is excellent and very delicious. We ordered the Philly and the New Jersey cheese steak. They were fresh and hot. We also enjoyed the Crab fries. Yum! Yum! Yum! Cons– you pay the high cost for a premium sandwich. Pros– fresh local ingredients. Amazing bread and selection of sandwiches. Great atmosphere.

The bread is amazing — and the owner is awesome! We for in crazy late and almost everything was closed, we saw this offered delivery so we used the Eat24 app to order it. App said delivery time would be 45 – 60 minutes. Within minutes, the store called to verify our order and told us it would be there in 30 minutes. Sure enough, 30 minutes later the driver(who ended up being the owner) was waiting for us in the hotel lobby. I can not stop talking about how delicious this bread was!

AMAZING. The man who helped us was extremely helpful! My mom(who is vegan) and I came here. She was able to order a sandwich that was vegan and really good here! She had tried to order vegan at Ikes with not much luck because their ‘vegan’ sandwiches ended up only having one or two toppings on them. They also offered a vegan soup of the day. I had their fries which were OK. they were cold because I ordered them to go. They were probably much better hot! My fiancé said his Philly cheese steak was the best he has ever had! We were unsure about what to order because we had never been in, the man behind the counter was so helpful! He even let us try some of the sodas! The schnozberry? Pomegranate/lime soda was amazing! I don’t drink soda often. But it was amazing! I feel like I need to go back just for the soda! We will be going much, much more often! They deliver orders over I believe $ 25. Definitely worth checking out!

Came here for dinner. All I have to say is this place hit.the.spot!!! The meatball sub was extra yummy and so was the ham and cheese sub. The bread is GOOD. I also had the bean soup… it was a little saltier than I would have liked but it paired well with my ham and cheeser. I love the fact this place offers craft beer. I wasn’t feeling like drinking but given the opportunity to come back, I just might try 1 or 2. Liked the feel of this place. Really chill. Can’t wait to come back!

After CaliRoots(Friday), checking in our hotel, we were hungry! So we found this place and walked there just to have some really good calzone and fries. The food was delicious! The manager/owner was really cool! He informed us about the delivery, incase we didn’t want to walk the next day. The atmosphere of the place is really chill. Saturday, we went back and tried loaded fries — OMG it was so good! We will be going back to try the philly cheesesteak :)

Came here for lunch on Saturday after the Monterey Wine Festival. We’ve been wanting to try them out since sampling their sandwiches at the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Holiday Party last December. We both had the Jersey Italian sandwich, that most closely resembles a Philadelphia Hoagie. Boar’s Head meats are the best and we loved our sandwiches with the addition of the peppers that gave them that zing! We also got garlic fries which were fresh and hot and cooked to perfection. My only suggestion would be that they offer more communal tables for mature patrons. Not everyone is comfortable perched at barstool height and the only normal height chairs and table are facing the wall, which is fine for single diners, like a counter at a deli. We’ll be back.

Delivery min. $ 25 .okay…plus $ 3 delivery fee… still okay… food arrives… no straws for drinks no ketchup for fries… chicken parm sandwich just plain horrible… Burnt chicken hardly any sauce… no flavor… super bland food… the only things that were good was fries and Shirley Temple. Unfortunately will not be back to eat here ever again.

So excited to have a local sub shop with some character AND gluten free rolls! I grew up in PA and this was one of the best Philly Cheesesteaks I’d ever had. DEFINITELY better than Pat’s and Geno’s.(Of Philadelphia fame) Great service, cool interior design, and super friendly owners. I’m impressed that 3 owners were there. Shows they care and it’s easy to see, feel, and taste that this is a labor of love! Happy to have a taste of home in my new hometown. Can’t wait to try the desserts… Though I’m gluten free they sound like they may merit being sick for a few days! My grandfather drove a Tastycake truck, too, so I have a feeling they’ll taste like childhood.

Recently went back to Boardwalk. Something must have drawn me back to there, maybe the fact that beers are $ 5 all day now. We got fries, which were still great, a couple subs, and a pretzel. The cheesesteak was good, probably needs some more meat. The italian sub was much much better than last time. It was presented as something I could actually eat vice something that’s a piece of ‘art.’ If I had to change something it would be the bread. It’s a bit on the tough side and tad to wide for a mouthful and compared to NJ, but Boardwalk made sure to fill the space with meat and veggies/peppers. Another huge improvement was the pretzel, while still not a philly pretzel it was delicious. It was warm, had nice salt and a good taste. A true philly pretzel would be awesome, but it’s a good substitute in CA. Overall, great improvements over the last few months. Prices have gone down, food quality has gone up! Glad to see the changes!

Fresh east coast subs using local Monterey ingredients. These guys pull off the best philly cheesesteak I have ever tasted! The bread is chewy and freshly baked. The steak is melt-in-your-mouth tender and juicy. The grilled onions and peppers are explosive with flavor and a delicately tamed heat. Of course the house-made cheese«wiz» is super special and worthy of being labeled as fantastic! Not to mention the fresh local lettuce and tomatoes. Top this amazing sandwich off with the delicious house-made ginger lemonade and I am one happy customer! Overall, this is going to be my go-to stop when in Monterey, it’s just that darn good.

Food was plentiful! One order of the Philly steak was enough to feed two. Duck fries were crispy and tasty with the truffle oil. Loved the lemonade tea blend not too sweet. Interior is clean with a modern industrial feel. I would go back again if craving a carby meal.

Pros: Open late Super nice people Nice selections Cons: Truffle fries are like overly super greasy and don’t taste like truffles Philly cheese steak meat quality is poor, bread is soggy and not enough cheez whiz desserts were meh I’d just go next door to Lallapalooza to get some food to go if you’ve got a hankering for some takeout past 11.

So this is a follow up review. I’m so impressed by these guys. Here’s the scenario. Went in today and ordered my usual Philly Cheese steak and a Chicken Parm. I get home and the Chicken Parm was not a Chicken Parm, I called and 15mins later they delivered it. Now that’s amazing service. Gotta love these guys. Honest, great service and food to match. Thank you again for everything, I’ll see you guys soon…

I thought this place was gonna be similar to Subway but wow… I was so wrong! It is similar in that you choose what kind of meat and toppings you want, but the quality and taste is sooo good. My boyfriend thought it was a little salty but it was very very flavorful! It’s a little pricy, at $ 10+ a sandwich, but the portions are ridiculously big. Also, the interior is super cute and the service is fantastic!

I so wanted to love this place. When I saw the place being renovated prior to opening and reading their mission statement… I was excited. Finally a good sub shop opening in Monterey.(OK…Randy’s Sandwich Shop and Compagno’s are excellent… actually the two best sandwich places on the Central Coast… but a East coast, Jersey style sub shop, they are not.) Anyway, within a few days of opening, I went there with great anticipation… and was sadly disappointed. So much so, it’s taken me months to get around to reviewing the place… which is probably good for them because had I written a review after eating there… it would have been needlessly harsh. Without going into a lot of detail. When I entered… the place was mostly empty. 230ish in the afternoon. OK, so maybe I missed the lunch rush an slide in between the next late lunch early dinner crowds… or maybe it was a clue that the place wasn’t all that. The kid at the counter, while friendly, did absolutely nothing to greet me… ask if ‘d been there before… didn’t suggest anything… nothing…zero engagement.(Which, btw is the managements fault… if you don’t train people… they are not instinctively going to be great servers or representatives of your business) I had to finally ask questions about the place and what he recommended. I’ve met friendlier and more engaging servers at the drive through at McDonald’s. I was eager to try something different… but with no guidance from the kid… I decided the best bet would be to try their Philly Cheesesteak. I’ve eaten Cheesesteaks all across the country… and one thing is a simple fact… there ARE good Cheesesteaks to be had outside Philly… but they are few and far between. When a place hits it… it’s amazing… when they don’t…well…I’d much rather eat an Arby’s Roast Beef and Cheddar sandwich. Being a «Jersey» inspired sub shop… I figured this was going to be an awesome sandwich. I hate to admit it… I was sadly disappointed. OK, the flavor of the sandwich was decent… but I actually had to pry apart the bread to double check if there was actually any steak in my sandwich. $ 10.99 + tax, for what I got… it was less meat than a McDonald’s .99 cent regular hamburger! ¾ of the sandwich was bread… a smear of cheese whiz… and some very thin slices of over cooked steak… and a few onions… which I could actually count, they were that few. Maybe it was a bad day… maybe whoever made my sandwich behind the counter… who I never did actually see… was in a poor mood… I don’t know. I walked out of the place… and hoofed it over to Ike’s Love and Sandwiches… because I was hungry. I honestly felt cheated. So, no offense to the owners and their concept, if I’m wrong about this… but this place has franchise restaurant lets try to make a lot of money written all over it. I may consider trying it again… but for 10.99…I’d rather go to Compagno’s for a HUGE sandwich… and be guaranteed an amazingly good sandwich. Which, BTW, a whole Compagno’s sandwich, for most people, is two meals… even for a fat cat like me…

This is a nice counter sandwich shop located on Alvarado downtown in Monterey. The service was friendly and attentive. You can get a sandwich and drink for $ 12 which is not too bad, but be careful they have at least one sandwich that is $ 15.00($ 14.99) and with tax and tip you are pushing $ 20 for this meal especially if you order a drink; all from a counter sandwich place. I ordered a bowl of chicken soup and my buddy ordered a chicken sandwich with peppers, thinking it would have been bell peppers; nope, he should have been more clear, he got diced jalapeños. Ouch! Overall, clean, friendly, conveniently located, but poor parking choices. Based on prices and parking going 4-stars. May try again in the future. Great if you are on foot and don’t mind a pricerier option with abundant cheaper choices in the area.

After the movies, I was looking for a place to eat. Since it was midnight already, most places were already closed. Thank goodness this place was open! Otherwise, we would have to eat fast food! We ordered the meatball sub and the chicken cacciatore. Both were really good! The meatballs were amazing! It was very flavorful! The bread was warm and lightly toasted. I really liked how it was still soft. At other sandwich shops, the bread would be so hard that it cuts the roof of my mouth. Not at Boardwalk Sub though! Another plus is the quality of their ingredients. It is WAY better than other places and definitely worth the higher price!

4.5 stars Newcomer to the local sandwich scene that was born out of the Teplitzky brothers’ passion to bring a piece of the East Coast to Monterey. Boardwalk Sub Shop puts jersey-style subs on the Monterey map. We tried a pair of sandwiches — the Philly Cheesesteak and the Chicken Parmesan. Both are served on their house made Italian bread and both are delicious. The chicken parmesan is served hot with tender breaded chicken, melted provolone and a robust housemade marinara sauce. The Philly cheesesteak boasts layers of thin-sliced steak, housemade Cheese Whiz and grilled onions(optional) piled onto their fresh Italian roll. Had to throw in some crab fries(no crab meat, just seasoning). They were pretty standard. They didn’t have much crab flavor at all. Will move onto the gravy fries or the duck truffle fries next time. Sandwiches average about $ 10.50 — $ 11 but a Subway footlong will run you $ 7 – 8 so well worth forking over an extra couple of bucks. You can also select from a nice selection of craft beers, local wines and small batch production sodas and homemade drinks like the Shirley Temple and the ginger lemonade. Other menu choices include calzones, soft pretzels, salads, homemade soups, desserts and some sides. Boardwalk Sub Shop caters to the late crowd with convenient hours. They are open till 11:00 p.m. on weekdays and 1:00 a.m. Friday and Saturdays. A great sandwich spot with old East Coast charm right here in Monterey. Will be back!

The Boardwalk Sub Shop is a winner. They’ve been quietly opened for a week and we can see that the place is functioning well and producing delicious eats. They had three beers on tap and a variety of cheese steaks and pairing items. We got the Philly, the Jersey Italian, duck fries, and some Scrimshaw. Tab was $ 40, which is about average for Alvarado St. So, you come in, order, grab any seat and plop your flag for your order. Comes out quick and while you listen to classic rock and enjoy your beer, you’ll notice this place kind of looks like a chain… it doesn’t appear to be the case, but the owners did a great job with their mobile site online and I can only guess this isn’t their first business. Hope it stays a while… By the way– perfect late night inebriation food fix… Open till 1am Friday and Saturdays. Seating may be an issue; 46-tops and a bench for 8… So expect to get cozy if this place is popular.
