Lakeview Fitness Center

This place is embarrassingly awful. My wife and I came here to use the pool/​hot tub/​steam room on our much needed night away from the kids.
When we arrived I asked the attendant about the hot tub, he looked embarrassed, not making eye contact. He then only charged us half price for the pass, knowing the disappointment we had in store.
I had high hopes, which were dashed when I saw the hot tub. This tub looks like it belongs in someone’s bathroom, not in a «world-​class facility» like the Lakeview fitness center. As I sank down into the tub’s disappointingly luke warm water I was overcome by the strong odor of mildew and feet. As I resisted the urge to gag, I easily stretched my leg out and touched the opposite side of this small tub. Uggh, this was brutal.
My wife joined me in the tub and I bit my tongue so as not to ruin our night out complaining about the below sub-​par facilities. Two of us were cramped in the tub it was so small. She noticed the smell too and we decided to turn on the bubbles, maybe that would make the experience more enjoyable. Nope. The circulating water just made the smell worse. The entire time I was in the tub all I could think about was if I might get one of those brain devouring bacterial infections from this primordial soup.
We endured about twenty minutes in the tub before we were too disgusted and couldn’t take any more, at which point we decided to take a dip in the pool. The pool was as bad as the tub. It was old, decaying and had the same mildew/​feet smell, to a slightly lesser degree. after a few minutes we gave up and decided to meet in the steam room.
The steam room joins the men’s and women’s locker rooms and it’s a little weird because you can almost see directly into each locker room from inside. The steam room, although also small, did serve it’s purpose by opening up my pours and loosening some of the embedded mold and jock sweat from the hot tub.
Afterword I retreated into the locker room which looks like it was state of the art when it was last updated, probably around 1980. The carpet smelled worse than the hot tub and each step gave me the willies thinking about the horror of germs and diseases I was stepping on. I took a shower using the soap provided in the dispenser and got dressed, trying not to let anything touch the floor.
I left the locker room and waited outside for my wife where the gym attendant avoided eye contact, knowing the horror I had just endured. Even though I had showered with soap I smelled like a gym sock for the rest of the evening. We enjoyed the rest of our date night and laughed about the experience.
I joked with her about leaving a negative Unilocal review about our experience, but when I went to the Lakeview Resort Unilocal page, it was so poorly reviewed, I felt bad and just let it be. But then tonight I found this fitness center Unilocal page and was surprised to find it rated FOUR STARS??? I felt it was my duty to humanity to speak up of my experience.
I’m sure the gym is lovely, but if it is a spa experience you are looking for, I implore you, stay far away from Lakeview Fitness Center.

Not the nicest gym in the world but has one of my favorite attributes you can get in a gym… It’s never packed. No one will take your machine, nobody is intimidating you, all types of people and all sorts of shapes come here to train.
The equipment is a little old but who cares, functionally it’s all the same. Cardio equipment and lift machines are relatively new. There is a tire and a basketball/​tennis court. Also there is a aerobics room used for marshal arts and yoga and other classes available to members for free. Also there is a room which trainers use to train and there is also a biking class available. There is a climbing wall, though I have never seen it being used.

Front desk staff are super chill and friendly. The hotel has a complimentary towel service and will also hold on to your keys for you!
For just over 30 bucks a month lakeview is a good value.

I just joined this gym a month ago and have used many of the facilities. They offer a special rate in the summer, so I took advantage of that when I decided to switch gyms from Club 24. The staff is extremely friendly, the gym is spacious and there are plenty of TVs and fans running. They have a wide variety of circuit machines, but some of them are a little older than what I was used to. They provide a free 30 minute one-​on-​one orientation to the gym which demonstrates all of the machines or any that you wish to see. This was extremely helpful to me and very thoughtful.
They have great quality cardio machines including treadmills, ellipticals, arc trainers and step machines. The gym is never overly crowded so finding a machine is always possible. They also have typical free weights and benches for power lifting.
My favorite feature is the racquetball court. It is usually busy on Monday and Tuesday evenings, but I haven’t had trouble getting the court any other day. This gym also features a basketball court, rock climbing wall, large rooms for classes like Yoga and Zumba, saunas, whirlpool and a lap pool.
For the price, you really can’t beat this gym in Morgantown. The only thing that dropped it a star for me is that it needs updating. Some of the machines, carpeting, and painting could be refreshed. Other than that, excellent gym! I am very happy I made the switch from the overly-​crowded Club 24.
