I knew this place was closed. Too bad the owner didn’t take my advise on my last reviews.

I’m sad they closed. They had excellent food! Very fun atmosphere. The place seemed busy, so it’s a shame.

It has been a while since I was last here and man have things taken a hard turn for the worst. The first sign was the fact that the place was absolutely dead on a Saturday night. We were only the third table sat at a time that you would think there would be a wait. Our Server lacked any motivation and was lethargic at best which didn’t help. I am all about quality Service, but when you smother a table that may actually be worse than ignoring it. This is exactly what the Hostess was doing. Every three minutes she’d come over to check on us or just come by to chit chat. She felt the need to also tell us how two people called off and three others no called no showed that night. There really was no need to air out your dirty laundry. Also when she asked us how things were, before I could finish my bite and answer her she replied«Is it bad? Oh God it is bad! You’d tell me if you weren’t happy right?» Good lord lady, I had food in my mouth and like to be polite and not talk with a full mouth. Now as for the food, it was decent I suppose, but the portions were just too big. I am a fat kid and if I say the portions are too big that is saying something. I had enough Meat Loaf and Mashed Potatoes to feed three people. No joke. I had three one inch thick slices and a mountain of mashed. My wife ordered the Chicken and Waffles and thought the same thing. Aside from the semi-burnt waffle that was the size of a hubcap she had about three or more pounds of chicken, plus potatoes and a large bowl of sausage gravy. With the place as dead as it was you’d think they would at least keep it somewhat clean. Sadly this was not the case. The table behind us was used as a drop spot for dirty dishes, straw wrappers, used napkins, etc. Also the bathroom looked like a bomb went off in it. The Womens room had no toilet paper in it, toilets that hadn’t been cleaned in what looked like days and was just an overall mess. The same went for the Mens room. It’s sad because this place had an awesome concept and unique menu when they first opened(they took all of the good stuff off of it now). They just let things slip and seem like they just don’t care anymore which is sad. Too many restaurants fail these days and if they don’t shape things up they will be joining that club very soon. UPDATE — 4÷12÷014 And just like that, not even a month after I wrote this and stated how if the place doesn’t fix things they’d be belly up soon, the Macomb Daily announced today is their last day in business. I honestly cannot say I am surprised. R.I.P. The Mitt.

Hey Mitt, What’s the deal? A group of us wanted to go out to eat Tuesday night and we decided on ‘The Mitt. The 8 of us met there only to find you were not open, even though the sign on the door claimed you were open. We were very disappointed. We had a very nice meal at Three Blind Mice.

Horrible experience. List of negatives: 1. Waitresses were arguing with each other 2. They were out of several draft beers on menu 3. Food was terrible. On top of it tasting bad my salad had a bone shard in it 4. Chicken in the salad stunk and tasted like it was microwaved Positive: There’s no way it will be open by this time next year.

Second time here. Wandered here after bad experience at another pub. Great michigan craft beers on tap including saugatuck, right brain, griffin claw, and Arcadia. Last time here had the steak bites(amazing), detroit onion soup(delicious), and lake perch(respectable).

This building must be cursed; nothing good has ever been here… I didn’t think you could screw up perogies, but they managed to do so. They’re sauteed and ususally, sauteed perogies are a little crispy on the outside and tender on the inside; mine were chewy and soggy. My wife had soggy food as well and they just took her plate and reheated it. This seems to be a common problem among the dishes that they serve, nothing is prepared correctly! I wish our server tried a little harder to right this wrong, but she was more interested in talking with her friends at the bar. I hate to admit this, but this is the third time in my life that I didn’t leave a tip. I like to tip my servers, and I like to tip them well, but this level of service was just bad. Perhaps when The Mitt closes, something better will finally open in it’s place?

I wish I could give this place zero stars. Horrible doesn’t even cover it. I ordered the city chicken. It came out really soggy, so the waitress said«Would you like a new one?» So I said yes, and she took the two skewers I had. She said they«Are making new ones, will only be a few minutes.» I ended up getting the same two skewers back with more soggy breading. Then when I did try and eat the pieces of pork, it was tuff, fatty, and had a horrible taste. Mashed potatoes ended up being my meal, but the gravy had a sour taste. Never going back. Ever.

The place is a bit dark but it’s a comfortable inviting setting for a decent meal. I had a Caesar salad w chicken and it was pretty good. The chicken was probably cooked an hour or two before my order, but it still tasted good. The Caesar dressing is made there so it has a pleasant freshness and texture. I would like a little more lemon in that recipe but it’s still a good dressing.

I was walking home from a store in the area when I remembered it was lunchtime. Well, my nose told my stomach — that’s how I remembered, as I was standing right outside of the Mitt, smelling some sort of steak cooking. I ordered a mushroom-swiss burger, which came with fries and a side pickle. Their Arnold Palmer washed everything down. The meal was delicious. Service was quick, even though my server had a wounded wing. End of story.

OK first thing. No lunch menu? I don’t want to spend $ 50 for lunch. Might want to have a lunch menu, might bring more ppl in. The place has 6 ppl here. Guess I’m not the only one who doesn’t want to blow my weekend wad on Fridays lunch. The bread they serve pre meal is tremendous. We ordered off the appetizers menu. Corned beef sliders, hummus pizza and hamtramck pierogis. All great and a good way to sample the menu. I’ve had the desert before. Bumpy cake. Big and excellent. serving sizes are large. You and a friend could split the hummus pizza for a nice healthy lunch.

The wife and I went to dinner here last night overall it was a good place. They weren’t very busy on the side we were on; however the other side sounded a little busier and had a good live band singing some good cover songs. The music was loud enough that we were entertained but not so loud that we couldn’t talk. We were seated immediately and our waitress came by less than 5 minutes later. She got us a bar menu and we ordered our drinks and an appetizer, the Mitt Wings. When our drinks came we ordered our dinner. The wings came out shortly after, followed by the salads then dinner a few minutes after finishing our salads. Lets start with the drinks. I was impressed with their selection of Michigan craft brews and wines. I can’t comment much as this part is mostly out of the restaurants control, you either like a particular drink or you don’t. However I can say that the beer was served cold and in a very clean glass, nice lacing in the glass as I drank my beer. My wife opted for a wine. Now for the food. The mitt wings were cooked well, the skin had a slight crispness, the meat was juicy and tender and they were good sized wings. They were clearly fresh from the fryer. We ordered them with mild sauce, which was a bit mild for my taste. It was a very thin, light sauce that was almost sweet. I think one of their hotter sauces may have been a better choice for me. Overall they were good; but if you want a more substantial sauce, go for one of their hotter sauces. Salads were very good, fresh crisp lettuce, crunchy croutons and the red wine vinaigrette dressing was very good. I ordered the ½ slab of ribs. The portion size was proper, the ribs were very meaty and tasted good. Sauce was good and not overpowering. My only complaint was that they were a little soft for my taste. I prefer to be able to leave a bite mark in my ribs as I eat them. All-in-all the ribs were fairly good. They come with either mashed potatoes or fries; but if you ask for veggies you can get them instead.(Many restaurants have options that aren’t on the menu so this didn’t bother me.) The veggies were steamed well, they were hot but still had some crispiness. My wife ordered the chicken marsala. The portion was larger than expected with 2 medium sized(maybe a little larger than medium depending on your definition) chicken breasts. The chicken was cooked perfectly, being fully cooked while still tender and juicy. The sauce was excellent. This dish also came with either mashed potatoes or fries; my wife opted for the mashed and said they were good. It also came with the same steamed veggies as I had. Not sure if it was supposed to or if the waitress included them because I had asked for them with mine, I’d recommend asking. My wife took half her dinner home since it was too much for her to eat all at once(not a complaint at all). Both of us were too full for desert so I can’t comment on that. Our waitress was very attentive and prompt and I’m very satisfied with her service. Now for my complaints. We weren’t given a bar menu and their alcoholic drinks aren’t on the food menu. The waitress immediately picked up on our not being sure of what to order and got us a bar menu. The hostess should have given us a bar menu with our food menu’s. Also, I originally ordered the pork loin. The waitress came back right after bringing our order to the kitchen and informed me they were out of the pork loin. It seemed like she was being truthful when telling me that she hadn’t been informed that they were out, given her promptness in returning to our table. Seems like there needs to be a little more communication between the kitchen and wait staff. Overall I’d recommend this restaurant to those who want a casual dining experience for a reasonable price. With both of our meals, the appetizer, my beer and my wife’s 2 glasses of wine the bill was $ 52.

Slooooooooow!!! This is the third time I have been here. First time, not bad. I was willing to give it another go. Second time, waited 30 minutes after being seated and didn’t even get a water so we left. Third time, it has improved a little. This place seems to be unorganized. The staff is running crazy, tables are left unbussed and what I’m assuming is the manger stands in the kitchen watching it all. It took 10 minutes to take drink order. 20 minutes to get our appetizers. 20 minutes for soup after ordering or 40 after walking in the door. Total dinner time for 4 people, 1 hour 50 minutes. The food is actually pretty good. This place has so much potential but seems to be lost on bad management and under staffing. The bill was all screwed up also. Apparently an up-charge for french onion soup is the full price of the bowl. My girlfriend asked for vodka water(she actually prefers well) and got charged for grey goose. They never asked if we wanted grey goose or absolute. I will never come here again. Try if you want but be prepared for a loooooog meal and watch the bill.

My mom and I went here for dinner last night. Not the type of restaurant I would normally choose to go to since I prefer ethnic fare, but she had a gift card, and I never turn down free food. We were greeted and seated immediately, and found ourselves at a large comfortable table. There was a man singing the the bar area, but we were not close enough to it that it bothered us. Our server was a trainee who was very attentive and checked on us often. We chose to order a lg. Greek pizza and a caesar salad to split. The salad was very good, and even had tomatoes and red onion in addition to the standard croutons and cheese. The dressing was tasty, and came served on the side, which I appreciated. The pizza was really good without being greasy, and was loaded with yummy toppings. We managed 2 pieces each and opted to take the rest home. Those two food items and we each had an iced tea, only came to $ 28. Not a bad deal! I do have to admit that it probably would not be somewhere I would frequent because I really do prefer spicy ethnic foods such as Indian or Thai, but for American food, it is pretty tasty.

Last night my friend and I were looking for a place to eat. He has never been to the Mitt so we decided to try it(despite not having much success in the past). It was quite a bit different this time around. We were seated immediately by a lovely hostess. Our waitress(and the rest of the staff) were wearing uniform«Mitt» shirts… appropriate attired. Our waitress was wonderful. She knew the menu well and was helpful with our choices. I had fish and chips and it was great. No complaints, no issues. I had onion rings that looked like donuts!!! The slaw was fresh and tasty. The Mitt has come a long way in a short period of time. There was a musical duo beginning to play and they were quite decent as well. Not too loud, not offensive, cool music to listen to… All in all, it was a pleasant experience and I would go back to the Mitt.

Wasn’t too sure of this place, but decided to try it out. My parents had been when it first opened and had a bad experience, but thought maybe it was just the«newness» of it all… Not so much. We got here at 4pm, a bit early for dinner, but the parking lot was EMPTY. I seriously thought they were closed. Nope, open. I even told my husband that we better have excellent service since they weren’t busy. We walked in and an older waitress came to get us and menus. They have NO children’s menus. She commented how nothing was ever where it was suppose to be. She got our drink order, talked to our daughter a bit, and then pulled out a huge notebook to rattle off the children’s menu. I stated that I wasn’t ready to order, but she continued to take my daughters and husbands orders. I had to make a quick choice, and choose an anti pasta. She commented that her last table had just gotten one as well. Hubby got fish & chips and my daughter got pizza. Another couple came in, asked about happy hour specials and she had NO idea what time it was, or what it meant. She had to look at the menu for the times AND ask someone behind the bar what was on sale for HH. Seemed like totally bad form to not even know the special, and not to advertise those to up the sales. Our food took a while to come, in btwn my daughter and I used the bathroom, which was filthy. For as slow as they were it should have been spotless! Food came, the shoestring fries are potatoes coated in an onion ring type coating. Tasted awful. The pizza was hard, and you could tell it wasn’t fresh and had been reheated. Hubby said his fish was just OK. The bread they brought at the beginning of the meal was the best thing about this place. My salad was sad… The egg was overdone, the salami/ham was warm and chewy and the cheese was warm too– some so much so that it was HARD. Gross. The lettuce was wilty. I took maybe 5 bites. She questioned if hubby was done when she took his plate of uneaten fries. He said, he was sure he was done. But, my salad which wasn’t even touched was not mentioned. I wasn’t in the mood to send it back or complain, which isn’t typical since it was SO bad. Then we were asked about dessert, declined, and it took 15 minutes to bring the bill. Then, it took another 15 before she came to pick it up and returned it for a signature! We learned our lesson, and will not be going here again. If they can’t function when its dead, then how do they handle it when its busy?! Other things we noticed: Not the cleanest of places; not a great menu selection– just typical run of the mill stuff; expensive cola; the staff doesn’t seem to have much knowledge of the menu/drink specials; pricey pasta dishes for just noodles & sauce; other menu item prices seemed comparable to others.

I love the concept but The Mitt needs refinement to make it a go-to dinner place. I really like the Michigan theme décor and menus, great concept. The food selection is wide with everything from full Michigan inspired meals to burgers. The appetizers surprised me with the selection; I honestly could not find any choice that I thought would please more than one or two of a group. Maybe some standards such as a spinach artichoke dip or other group friendly options would be an improvement. We ended up not ordering any. Our meals were fine with large portions. I would not order the meatloaf again but my wife loved it, though I admit meatloaf is always personal and a risky bet at any restaurant. 3 of 4 liked their meals, but I am still a holdout. The bread, though tasty was soaked in butter, and I mean soaked. Not exactly heart smart. My wife could not eat it because of the sogginess. Loved the beer selection, nice, crafty, on tap, and Michigan, along with the standbys for those less willing to try new things. The staff was friendly and attentive; some thoughts might be a dedicated door person and some training in the finer points of fine dining. Overall I will probably be back for another go, but this restaurant could surely be refined. The beauty it is lacking is in the details that don’t yet measure up.

While nothing was necessarily wrong with this restaurant, nothing stood out and I would not recommend it. They have a good idea going, but I think it needs to be worked better. I ate here for lunch and it was incredibly dark; I could barely read the menu. I had a carrot cake martini(very strong, but very sweet), a cup of taco soup and the pierogi appetizer with sauerkraut on request. The soup was broth based and very good and it came with cheese and tortilla strips on the side. I also received garlic bread sticks which were good. I ended up getting the pierogi dinner instead of the appetizer since I didn’t get any sauerkraut and it came with mashed potatoes and veggies. There were supposed to be three different flavors of pierogis, but they all tasted the same. It also came with a homemade dipping sauce which was good. The waitress mentioned that they make everything onsite except for the Thousand Island dressing and the sauerkraut and pierogis which they get from Hamtramck. As I mentioned before, everything was ok, but nothing stood out and I would not plan on going back unless things are ‘revamped’.

The Mitt boasts the use of all Michigan products, and it shows in the freshness and tastiness of their food. Between myself and the rest of my family, we had salads, burgers, entrees, and appetizers, and everyone was very happy with what they had. However, the service left a lot to be desired. We were here on a Saturday night, but the restaurant was only about half full. We were seated immediately, greeted promptly, after that was where it went down hill. The waitress took 15 minutes to even get us our waters, and when we actually put our order in, took another FORTY for any food to hit our table. I don’t mind a wait when I am with a full table(there were 5 of us) but we had ordered appetizers of haystack onions(a quick flash fry) and hummus(no cooking required!), which — despite asking about them — we still didn’t receive until AFTER our entrees had come. What?! Also, they had a duo of two middle aged gentlemen playing poor top 40 covers on guitar… it was louder than what was necessary and I probably would have enjoyed the experience better without. Kind of a mess. Too bad, cause we liked the food!
