Great little ma/pop shop for donuts! Easy, quick and fast to identify and grab some fresh donuts.

I drove all the way out from Oak Harbor to drop my car off at the dealership for some work. The loaner car that they gave me had a GPS. Knowing that I’d be late for work, I plugged in «Donuts» and Darren’s was the first one to pop up. The strip mall that it is located in looks run down, dated, and slightly dingy. Don’t let that stop you. Entering Darren’s, you are greeted by the sweet smells that they have to offer. Since I was late for work, I ordered a dozen assorted donuts. I will say that I think he was generous with the assortment, which included maple bars, cake, and raised donuts. They have fritters and a small other assortment of the typical donut-shop fare. The donuts went in about an hour in my office, and a lot of folks were asking on where I picked them up from. Better yet, no one cared that I was late today! I myself have had a fritter and a old fashion donut, and both were fantastic. The service was fast and friendly. The prices are a little higher but these are the kind of donuts that you would pay more for. I’m a fan!

I happened upon this place about 10 years ago and I’ve been spoiled by these donuts so that I don’t want any others. The donuts there are an amazing dichotomy of light fluffiness in the dough, yet still dense enough to be substantial. The outside has a delicious crispness to it and the inner soft part is like perfection. The donuts are large, but not too big. Well really everything there is spectacular from the cake donuts to the raised, I have never tasted better. If you haven’t been here, stop whatever you’re doing and go!

We searched for donuts in the Mt. Vernon, Washington area before we left home in Atlanta, Georgia. Darren’s Donuts had the best rating, and it should. These donuts and twists are amazingly delicious. They are light and fluffy. The service is quick and efficient, and the staff is very friendly. Awesome donut shop well worth visiting!

Great if you like a shit hole with bugs in your food. I’m blown away this place is so well reviewed. The donut shop is incredibly decrepid. Place looks like it’s out of a saw movie, but that’s not why I gave it one star. Walked in here to fix my sweet tooth. There was a couple of people in line ahead of me that allowed me some time to check the place out. One of the first things I noticed aside from the terrible décor was the large live plants sitting by the donut cases. Covered in bugs. There were little white caterpillar looking things crawling all over the leaves. Hundreds of them. Fuck that. Walked out.

Wait… what…what did I just eat??? Doughnuts from Heaven? OMG. YES! I just came out from their store and have to write review right away!!! It was the best doughnut I have ever had in my life. I always love Krispy Kreme’s original glaze doughnut, now I have to say this store is at the top of my list! Too bad that it’s so far away from my house but if I ever go this way again I will have to stop by! I want to eat more and more after the 1st bite. The sweetness is right on the spot. Krispy Kreme doughnut is sweeter and that’s 1 thing I don’t like about it. But Darren’s doughnut has the perfect sweetness to it. The glaze is like heaven on earth with a bit of crunchiness. I’m drooling just thinking back about the doughnut I just ate. oh man. The bread inside is soft and very very very well made. I also tried the chocolate and the maple bar. and yes, I love it too,. The chocolate doughnut has the real chocolate on top of it! mapble bar, needless to say, you have to eat it!!! Can I have your franchise pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Had these a few times since they’re the closest donut shop to me. Their original style donuts are tasty, but there’s not a lot in terms of originality. Just your regular glazed, cake, etc — what I could find at the grocery store. But tasty, because donuts, hence the 4 stars.

They’re a beast with the sugar and the yeast. The Tigertail and Apple Fritters were the best.

I’m so impressed with Darren’s donuts! The donuts are incredible – so light and fluffy and fresh! These are some of THE best donuts I’ve ever had. Bought a dozen and a half for the office, and everyone raved. To top it off, service was amazing. The super nice lady at the counter was very helpful and kind. Love this place. I’ll be coming back as a regular!

Great donuts, limited open times, small seating and a little more spendy on the favorite doughnuts. Great little shop tho. Shop could be refreshed a little bit. Its an old store, and needs brightened/refreshed.

Great donuts! Discovered the shop on our way home from the San Juan islands. Fresh, soft and yummy. Car full of wife and kids and we all agree, this will become a regular stop when we head north. We had a good selection and all were great. Enjoy!

I went here with a few friends for the first time. There wasn’t much in terms of selection. What got to us was how dirty the donut shop was. It was disgusting. We all ended up feeling sick after eating here. Not good at all.

Best donuts ever! Better than Top Pot in Seattle! Better than Voodoo in Portand! Just as good as the Rocket in Bham. Sounds funny but I think they should raise prices as they make the donuts from scratch and WAY under charge for the quality you get!

My brother in law, who lives in Panama is a donut junkie. My sister’s last visit, after checking Unilocal reviews, we stopped there to pick some up, on our way to Seatac. I also picked a couple for the drive back home. They are yummy, they will be part of my next trip to Panama. Unfortunately they are 90 minutes from home, other wise I would be in big trouble.

I love to visit bakeries when I travel and I hit gold when I found Darren’s in Mount Vernon. Absolutely delicious twists, maple bars, and apple fritters. I’m sure all the other doughnuts are just as good. Some believe this is Skagit Valley’s BEST home of the doughnut. You won’t get an argument out of me.

While on a road trip, as we neared Mount Vernon, we got a hankering for some donuts. Not familiar with the area ATALL we checked Unilocal and found Darren’s Donuts. With the high marks(stars), albeit only a few reviews, we detoured over. These were some of the BEST donuts we have ever had. Of course there were so many choices staring at from the glass cases that we had to indulge(heck, we were on vacation)!! The Old Fashions, Jelly Filled and Apple Fritters(to name a few) were saliva generating machinations! Now, the wife likes her Apple Fritter — and she rated this as one of the best ever. It’s a small shop, with some seating room. The donut artisan behind the counter was friendly and he also made a mean cup of coffee! We met a nice elderly couple enjoying their treats who were also quite friendly and recommended a place to eat — the Kitty Hawk Café. Two days later we checked that place out and the recommendation was spot on, too! They must have been Unilocalers…

Thanks Krispy Kreme 4 closing down; that’s how I discovered the BEST donuts ever!!! Melt-in-your-mouth good!!! Krispy Kreme or any«designer donut boutiques» have nothing on them! And great customer svc to boot. Will be a required stop each time we go to Birch Bay or BC. It’s a good thing I live over an hr away, otherwise my waistline would grow exponentially: D
