This is not really a farm experience; more like a coffee shop. They give u an introduction to coffee roasting that is more like a sales pitch. I was actually not impressed with the coffee samples at all. We wanted to buy a kona coffee and they got us one pack from the back!!! they only had maui one on the shelf… After spending almost $ 100 in their coffee shop we were told we could take a look at the farm. However, once we got close to the smoking spot behind which we were told to go, a rude woman in a truck told us «we were out of the bounderies» and we had to buy a tour if we wanted to look around. There were no signs, and she seemed to move from one person to another to deliver the«kapu message». Seems to me a sign would be cheaper. The coffee is $ 40 /pound, so you would expect some better, friendlier experience if they want people to pay extra for the privilege to buy their product.

This is the second coffee mill I’ve visited on the Big Island and I have to say that, between this one and Ka’ū Mill, it’s the coziest and least«corporate”-feeling one. It’s right off Hwy 11 going toward Hilo and is easy to spot. There are two little buildings in a farm-like setting — the café is the building on the left, closest to the parking area. The facility is very well maintained(they have a gentleman who does the dusting and sweeping of the outside). My boyfriend and I only stopped in for a drink, so I can’t comment on the food. However, the coffee milkshake is a drink I recommend. It’s made with Kona coffee ice cream and the house ice coffee, and both flavors deeply compliment each other. It’s not overbearingly sweet like most milkshakes. The service was probably the winner of my experience here. Janelle was very nice and greeted us right away, and helped us through our menu indecision. She recommended the coffee milkshake to me, and I did not regret it. Unfortunately the soup we wanted was still in preparation, but that’s ok.

Outside of the chocolate covered macadamia nuts(which are amazing and very addictive) our service was below average. Samples were extremely small and the tour seemed more like a sales pitch rather than an informative coffee session. We had a coffee tour in Kona which topped this visit by far!

Coffee is delicious. Also, the pork sliders are tender and the homemade barbeque sauce is delish. GETTHEPURPLEPOTATOSALAD! It’s so good! They have chickens out in the front and they get fresh eggs from them. There is also a green house in the back that they get fresh lettuce and veggies from for salads. On your way out you might see the banana trees and you should grab a couple even if they are totally green. They will ripen and homegrown Hawaiian bananas are different and delicious.

I’d say this place was pricey for what you get. Hearty green salad with chicken was not hearty at all; it was served in a bowl the size of a cereal bowl. Side order of one egg was $ 2, so we opted against it. Belgium waffle soft: was expecting slightly crisp & toasty. Menu says it’s served with real unsalted butter, but we had to ask for it because it wasn’t there — only syrup, whipped cream and chopped mountain apple. The chicken wrap was pretty good. Customer service was quite poor overall. Would’ve rated this place one star, but the young gal working was sweet & cordial. Won’t be eating there again.

I appreciate agrotourism, but was not impressed here. The coffee shop itself is a tourist trap. Wasn’t allowed to look at the farm and couldn’t see much from the shop. I ordered a latte and it was heartlessly made, which makes me sad as my first thought was ‘Starbucks is better’. That’s not a normal thought for me. Haha. However I love farms and farmers, thus they get 3 stars.

I was a UH student and was at The Mill on the last weekend of March 2015 on my spring break for the tour and lunch combo. Both were fantastic! Jeanette led the tour and I got a taste of a coffee berry! At the end of the tour, Jeanette made me a cup of vanilla latte with lunch. That vanilla latte hooked me… FOREVER! The atmosphere of The Mill combined with the fantastic coffee and staff really made the overall experience unforgettable. I left that day with three lbs of full city roast Maui estate and a lb of Monsoon Macaroon. I keep thinking back on that amazing day. Now that I’m out of beans, it’s time to order more!

Great stop on the way to Volcano National Park. Great coffee with a lot of flavor options. Cool front porch and grounds. We saw baby chicks in the parking lot… so not a bad stop!

We were headed to Volcanoes National Park and decided to have breakfast at Hilo Coffee Mill on our way there. I had already decided on a waffle, so I was not too pleased when told that the waffle machine was broken. That left few choices. I ordered an egg & ham breakfast sandwich with no mayo. That led to much conversation between the person at the cash register and the person making the sandwiches about the location of the ham. Honestly, I was fully expecting to hear that there was no ham. I happened to be looking at some items on a shelf and saw the sandwich preparer slathering my bagel with mayo. I called out to her. She was not happy about having to toast another bagel. It took over 20 minutes of waiting to get a couple of bagel sandwiches. The pineapple coffee that so many Unilocalers raved about? None in sight. The private tours of the coffee operation? None offered. The chickens and friendly cats? Yup, they were there. I really wanted to like this place. Instead, I spent most of my day hungry.

Oh man … the best coffee on the island. We went all over, visited kona coffee farms and beyond, and this place had the most amazing coffee, the most lovely owners, and so many baby chickens! I know that shouldn’t be a selling point, but it was pretty fun. The pineapple coffee, Maui, and Oahu were wonderful! Also learned some fun facts — the lighter the bean, the more caffeine(with a fun little rhyme to remember it), and that french roasts are actually the worst coffees, inferior beans roasted into oblivion to hide imperfections. Who knew? Not me. Anyway, this was our favorite coffee farm on the island, and once we blow through our supply we’ll be ordering more!

I guess I had no idea what this place was. I thought it was a little tourist spot about growing coffee in Hawaii. Turned out it was nothing more than a coffee shop with a little gift shop and small bites. They didn’t even have they coffee that they grew. We ordered our coffee and quickly left. Seemed like just another coffee shop to me… without the drive-thru. As a coffee bar… I suppose it was 3 star but my expectations were crushed(and they didn’t have their own coffee) so… 2 star.

I had the Bagel with egg, cheese, and jalepeno. Freshly made and I really enjoyed it. I also love the chickens under the porch. I had Pineapple coffee. It doesn’t taste like pineapple, but the aroma does! What a great stop for breakfast on the way to Volcanoes National Park. Mahalo!

THELIGHTERTHEBEAN, THEMORECAFFEINE! Just one of the interesting things I learned while here. Being an avid dark roast coffee drinker I always assumed the darker the roast the more caffeine, but not so! The coffee here was great and I really enjoyed the smooth taste of the coffee, which I also found out is due to the low acidity in the bean from the rainfall in the region(240 inches a year). Juanette, who gave the brief tour, was great. She is such a kind spirit and gave us lots of tips about the island, different hikes, etc. Will definitely be returning here before our trip is over.

Just stopped by because we were curious. So glad we did. The staff was so friendly. We sampled the mac nut butter and ordered a variety of drinks. The smoothies were made with fresh ingredients and our boys loved their mango and berry smoothies. Our daughter got the vanilla bean milkshake. It tasted so creamy and yummy, like melted vanilla ice cream. I have to say that I enjoyed the coffee best. Got it flavored with English toffee syrup… amazingly delicious!

Decent coffee shop that we stopped at on our way to Volcanoes National Park. They also have snacks and sandwiches if you’re looking to bring your lunch on the road with you. If you get there before 8, you can avoid a lot of the crowds! Closed Sundays.

Well this was an interesting stop. We were able to find parking — but where’s the front door? Two identical buildings next to each other — where’s the coffee? PUTUP A SIGN! Turns out it’s the one closest to the parking. We go inside, and it’s a coffee bar, quick-bite, gift shop all-in-one. The coffee was good, the food(kahlua pork) was good, but the portion was small for $ 10.

Cute little coffee spot in Hilo. Nice grounds, super nice staff, and an extremely friendly cat(1 among 3 apparently) named Puka to greet you. Be sure to try the Pineapple Kona Coffee(wow), and various flavors of homemade ice cream.

What a totally cool place, we visited HCM on the way to the Volcano National Park and it was an awesome pit stop, we had a fabulous lunch of soup and sandwiches. A very cool place and the owner herself took us on a private tour of the roasting area and educated us on what Kona Coffee is all about. This is a most stop place. Don’t bother on stopping in the town, it’s not worth the stop.
