Ordered the tri-tip sandwich and it was easily the best I have ever had, especially when paired with the sauce. Jamie was our server and she was very kind and attentive. I will definitely be coming back soon.

What a delightful stop on our day trip! On our way for snowy Bear Valley,(hungry for breakfast), when we saw this pleasant ‘small town’ restaurant. Plenty of parking, we entered to find a rustic interior including a covered wagon table! Feeling adventurous I tried the frogs legs ‘n eggs & was not disappointed! my crew gave french toast & benedict a go; a very comforting home-style version. The staff was attentive & courteous. We’ll be back! (sign on the wall: ‘if the coffee tastes like dirt; it was just ground this morning’)

The place is great. In quick, a drink or coffee, order taken, great food served. Boom. Pay your bill and go tour around gold country. I love California!!! Had the chicken fried steak this time. Their gravy is awesome. I’ve had a few other things and they never disappoint. This isn’t fancy, I don’t recall and greenery you don’t eat on the plate, no slices of orange oddly placed where they don’t seem to fit. This is what you ordered done right served right in a decent location at a fair price. Worth going a little out of your way for. Only comment on the location is this… You can get a whiff of hair perm chemicals from the hair place next door if you walk past their door at the wrong time. Personally that smell disgusts me so that was a bummer this trip. I’ll remember to park on the other side next time.

Yum! Went here for a late(11am) breakfast. Food was good — had the pancakes and the chicken fried steak. Restaurant was maybe half full but still took longer than expected to get our food. Service was ok.

Enjoyed breakfast here twice recently. The service was good and we all liked our food. It is basic breakfast fare, but it as all good; just what you want after drinking too much wine the day before in Murphy’s. It is one of the few places that opens early. We will definitely be back.

This is the Hillbilly Breakfast Bowl,(see in photos) with scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, coated with white peppered gravy and cheese inside a sourdough bowl. This was delicious, I only got half way through before I had to throw in the towel. I would totally recommend this! 5⁄5 stars! The service was quick, and the restaurant wasn’t very busy. Our servers were sweet and attentive, I will be coming back!

Took my girlfriend on a date night dinner. We went in an they said we have a special dinner tonight, you should of had a reservation. My only question was do you have any vegetarian options. They said no the entire special menu is meat. Really you can’t put a pasta dish on your special menu? So we did not stay. We went down the street.

We went for breakfast — the coffee was hot and fresh, food was good, the service was super friendly, they had coloring books, crayons, boosters and a high chair for my kids. The décor is a little kitschy, but my kids were fascinated with all the things hanging on the walls and the covered wagon table!

I would have given them 5 stars, the food has always been the attraction, but some know it all Robert Irvine from Restaurant Impossible came in and turned it into a less than homey atmosphere. Gone are the wooden tables and chairs and replaced by smaller tables and steel chairs that have the comfort of sitting on trash cans. The decorative décor on the walls are a nice touch. The food is great, atmosphere is great, prices are good, comfort sucks.

We loved everything we had in our party of five for breakfast. It took a while, but was worth the wait.

If I could I wouldn’t give it a full star. I know the owner, and this is not personal… This is an honest review! The service, was horrible! The waitress stood around, and ignored people as they walked in. Stood around talking with customers that were seated as people waited up to 4 min, at the door. The food was bad… How many ways can you screw up breakfast?!? Seriously… I had something that was supposed to be remnant of Eggs Benedict, yet it’s variation was scrambled eggs instead of poached, which had no flavor, and instead of Hollandaise, they used some processed watery cheese crap that all I can describe as, is watered down cheese sauce that is used in macaroni and cheese! It had a very chemical taste to it! I wanted to walk out! But I didn’t want to waste the food, and I was starving! So I doused it with lots of pepper and Tabasco sauce and cringed as I ate. After this unpleasant experience, I come to find out that the restaurant had been on Gordon Ramsay’s show Kitchen Nightmares,(I stand corrected! After scouring youtube last week, I come to find the show was Restaurant Impossible not Kitchen Nightmares, however same concept.) I guess you can say my one star is for the décor. However… Without seeing the show, I’m going to say that the restaurant did not follow this experts advice?! Sad, but a reality, I believe this restaurant is a HUGE failure. Like I said, it’s nothing personal, it’s all business!

Our entire family enjoyed their lunch and breakfast here. Salads, sandwiches and a breakfast plate all we’ll made and not screwed up. The tritip salads was particularly delicious. Funny expect anything fancy or far fetched, but the quality was good. As expected.

After a not so nice comment about this place from a hotel clerk(she seemed to have an ulterior motive, though not sure why) we decided to go for breakfast anyways, since most of the Unilocal reviews were positive. I’m sure glad we did! We were seated by the owner, Jaime, who was extremely welcoming and sweet. I for one love to see an owner doing all they can to make their business successful by helping out when needed. Our server was also very pleasant and friendly. Our party of 6 all enjoyed our meals, which were delicious and came out in a timely manner. We would definitely return when in the Murphy’s area :) Another note: the restaurant went through an overhaul regarding some aspects, as seen on the tv show Restaurant Impossible(which we watched when we got home), so some of the reviews may have been before that. I found Jaime and her staff are doing a great job, and deserve lots of business!

What a disappointment… asked for poached eggs and fresh fruit. They said, oh the fruit isn’t fresh. I said, what is it then, canned? «no, it comes from a bucket, with syrup and stuff». Hmmm. So, just the eggs. Then, two other plates at our table came out with beautiful half strawberries, as garnish. Apparently I should have ordered a cup of garnish? I even specified, maybe do you have a banana? She assured me, no. The other two meals came out and were enjoyed. Either we weren’t welcome, or the staff is inhappy, because the service was abysmal.

We make it a point to eat at Hillbillies whenever we come to Murphys. It has been a year and a half, and the entire ambiance of the restaurant has changed. I understand that it was on one of those«make it better» TV shows, and all they succeeding in doing was to make it worse. It used to be cute with great food. Now it is just run of the mill with run of the mill food and barely tolerable service. What happened to the great wall decorations, and who thought bright colors were good for a restaurant called Hillbillies? Who thought removing the friendly staff in favor of someone who does not want to be there was an improvement? Who though getting rid of great food in favor of mediocrity was an improvement? I guess the proof is the fact that the place was nearly empty during what should have been a morning rush. Guess their TV experience was a failure. I would encourage them to get that crap off the walls, dig out the old stuff, and get back to what it used to be. Let me know when that happens and I’ll e back. Until then…

Large portions, a cook who knows how to cook, and friendly service. It’s a little pricey, but it is in the upscale neighborhood of Murphy’s, a pleasant tourist-oriented town. The restaurant was subject to a makeover by the Food Network’s «Restaurant Impossible» with Robert Irvine and his crew. The décor is eye catching and clever, and it’s interesting to see what they did. It’s worth seeing. For my taste it is a bit too modern to fit the down-home food, but it is an attractive clean look. It’s pro decoration; I think, «I would never have thought of doing that.» That’s good. The portions are large, in the old-fashioned style that real American’s love, and which tends to frighten foreign tourists. The frog’s legs and eggs are on the menu, I guess, to frighten Americans. There is nothing to fear in either case. The food is good. One test is the cream gravy served with the chicken fried steak. It was well made, with a peppery taste that brought it above the usual. The fried food was crisp and well-cooked, with the frogs legs juicy. The chicken-fried steak was a bit thin for a big-breakfast place, but there was no danger of going hungry. My wife is big fan of frog’s legs, finding them«refreshing.» She like the preparation here. They taste more gamey than chicken, although I probably wouldn’t call them«refreshing.» I’m sure they were frozen, but they tasted fresh. Don’t worry, 99% of the menu is utterly conventional. If you’re hungry, this is the place in Murphy’s for breakfast.

My sister got married at Murphy’s and she wanted to try this place out. It was delicious! They served for over ten people and they were on it with orders, drinks and food. For a small place they were great with our large group. My husband and I stayed at the Murphy’s Inn Motel which is walking distance to the restaurant. I recommend Denver omelet. They put three eggs in each omelet. Also, they allowed me to customize my own omelet by adding some mushrooms. Super yummy! Many from my group ordered mimosas. Such great service.

It was about 1030am on a Sunday. Rather busy and crowded. The food was pretty decent and well proportioned for the price. Chicken fried steak and eggs, and a country scrambler plus 2 cups of coffee for $ 26. My complaints are about the service staff. A young boy about 15yo sat us, but he did it by grabbing a couple menus, shooting a glance at us, and walking off without a word. I took the hint and we followed him to a table, but he never spoke a word. It took at least 10 minutes for my coffee, but I had to shout to a girl to get her attention. No one acknowledged us and we were within direct sight of the area where beverages are prepared. It felt like they were purposefully ignoring our table, and even the few times when any 1 of the 3 servers caught eye contact they quickly looked away or changed direction. It was just really irritating that no one came to check on us.
