Peter went out of his way to get me a board and suit. Even said I could surf as long as I like and to simply drop the gear off around the back of the store when I finish.

*This review is for buying SUP gear, not the surf or paddle board lessons*: Really great service and knowledgeable employees. Bottom line, I’d come back here to buy more SUP gear. My boyfriend and I were looking for paddle boards in January when it is pretty hard to find anything from last season or on sale. We called dozens of places — surf shops, rental places, and the typical outdoors shops — and we had pretty much no luck in our price range. I was so happy to hear from Pete, the owner, who had boards in stock. The price was unbeatable, so we had to drive down from the South Shore immediately to see the boards. When we walked into the store we were greeted by Pete’s daughter(didn’t catch her name but she was so nice!) and she gave us tons of information on the boards she had in stock. The family works for BIC so naturally they sell BIC boards, which are pretty great, resilient boards. We had even been looking at the BICs beforehand. Needless to say it didn’t take long for my boyfriend and I to decide to each walk away with a board that day(I bought a new one, he bought a used one). The boards came with paddles, they threw in nylon straps and some epoxy, and the daughter helped us strap the boards on my cars roof racks.

I bought a Groupon for stand up paddleboarding lessons for two and it was more than worth it. We met at Narrow River Kayak to learn the basics and I was up and cruising down the water in about 30 minutes. I LOVESUP and will be doing it for years to come now! Some tips: try to avoid windy days if you can. It makes it much more of a workout! Also, stay on your knees for a little while until you get the basics of steering down. That way you’re focusing on what you’re doing instead of whether you’re going to lose your balance. Also: tip the guy! COMEONPEOPLE.

Had a coupon since last year and was waiting until this summer to use it with my girlfriend. Had SO much fun learning the basics to stand up on the board. The small waves of Narragansett were perfect to learn on. Only issues we had was that our instructor was exhausted as he had been at the beach since 8am without a break or lunch. I wish he was a little more interested in our group, but he was helpful with tips and pushing us with the waves. Also, the space where we were learning became REALLY busy and we were learning to surf with all the other lessons. My gf was run into from behind by another instructor pushing his student into her area and now has a pretty nasty bruise on her back. Our instructor had to tell people numerous times that they were in the middle of our lesson. BUT, while we both didn’t necessarily stand up, we are looking forward to renting surf boards and trying it ourselves next time! Please note: you will have to go to the office first(address on Unilocal is wrong it’s actually 74 Narragansett Ave at the Narragansett Surf and Skate) then head over to the water(5 min walk) so you can actually go check in/pay early in the morning and then just meet your instructor at the beach whenever you have your lesson.

My 9yo took the surf summer camp and it was terrific. Hope to do it again next summer too!

Five star for real. I had my ass handed to me and then some. As it turns out, my first two surf instructors went a little easy on me and bolstered my ego a bit — which, as a beginner, I’ll take it. But for lesson 3, Colin(oh god, it’s been a few weeks, I think that was his name) got down to business. If my surf lesson were a movie montage, there would have been some quirky background music and the shot would cut back and forth to me not doing it right and him saying that I need to get my hands up, do it again, one quick motion — then there would be the slapstick part of me falling off over and over and over again… with a few brief, shining moments of tottering success. In the movie of my surfing career, I hope the next montage is better — but I totally trust these guys to get me there.
